just got back from the moose game...

go figure that when they raised the banner - i was *directly* in line with it so all i saw was something like this " | " ... kinda hard to take a picture.

moose won 6-1 in what wasn't exactly the best round of hockey i've watched. they had a few nifty goals - but really REALLY passed too much and didn't shoot enough. there was a solid round of fights to end off the game (in retaliation for a brutal boarding hit on a moose - so bad that i didn't see the hit, but had time to hear the noise, look, see the helmet still floating in the air - and not see the guy who was already lying on the ice).

and seriously - i have no idea who 95% of those players were.

Jimmy Roy didn't play - he warmed up - and then was suddenly in a suit on the bench for the intros... and i was soooo disappointed. like an 8 year old or something. i go to see the moose - i go to see jimmy play. at least mike keane was there.. but i was pretty grumpy for the first 10 minutes.

oh - and we wanted to kill the couple sitting behind us. so loud, laughed at everything, had a play by play of the game going on, seemed to know all about the sport, but didn't know things about icing when you have a penalty, and felt compelled to sing to every song that was the PA. and his lady? she sounded like a man - and had no idea what was going on.

...seemed like they had a good time. i wanted to stab them. :)

Anthrax are great live. I saw them around 10 years ago in chicago and I saw them here in the peg back in 1987 (I think) with Kiss. I agree with the set list not being the greatest, but Halford still has great pipes for a 54 year old.

Falcons D almost got me back to the W column, but I fell two points short. I'm blaming my loss on LT this week. 2 points? Whoops. Looks like I'm really paying for that week I didn't start a TE.

As for the hockey pool, I'd say the goalie points need some sort of modification. I still think GA should be a negative, but obviously 1 point is too high. Playing a goalie shouldn't be an automatic loss of points.

As far as dropping all your goalies and not playing anyone, I understand the point, but that penalizes anyone that drafted a goalie anywhere but in the last rounds. You expect players that play well to generate points and a goalie should still be up points for winning a game, even if they give up 3-4 goals. As it is they lose points at that range. Maybe -0.25 per goal? That way if the goalie wins and gives up less than four goals they're still ++ on the point total?

Two examples: Vokoun and Luongo, neither of whom are on my team. My guys just suck.

Being one of the leaders, I drafted my goalie in the second round, if we change the rules now we'd have to disregard all goalie stats prior to the policy change because those who realized the point situation with goalies will lose all the pts since the beginning of the season for not playing their goalie. making a minimum of 40 games for goalies allows flexibility on when to play your goalie. it is unlikely anyone will have a goalie that can play 82 games. as for losing your goalies, that was your choice to make that roster decision to release your goalies. i knew about the goalie issue but still chose to keep my goalies so i don't believe that is a reason not to count goalie stats. Making a minimum forces everyone to use their goalies at some point in the season. by "catching up" i mean catching up in games played for goalies.

I was just giving a suggestion that would offset the negative points factor. At this stage in the pool, it looks like simply HAVING a goalie in the lineup is detrimental because even if a goalie wins, with scores being as high as they are, a winning goalie can still bring your points down. A perfect example was the Canucks-Avs game last Saturday evening. Cloutier got the win, but with 4 goals against him he lost 2 points for his lineup.

More incentive has to be given to KEEP or attain better goalies and help them be better point-getters for the pool, otherwise people will end up dropping all their goalies. Some guys have already done that, and I must confess that I've been thinking about doing that as well for the past few weeks.

i'm not saying don't count the stats - but as the rules were, it was a smart move to make - i picked up two forwards and dropped two players (goalies) that would in all likelihood provide a negative number of points for my team. my choice was a good one given that i didn't think we'd be changing the rules 3 weeks into the season - but i'm willing to work around it.

the stats can stay as they are - i just want to know where i'm going to stand if the rules change. it's not like i knew about the changes before i dropped my goalies.

but i agree, it's early enough in the season that i could catch up with a 40 game minimum. is that a rule option?

scenario: hasek wins 5-3, makes 28 saves... +2 pts for win, +2.8 for saves, - 1.5 for goalies against, 3.3 points for a win and a contribution equal to a good forwards outing.

scenario: thibualt gets rocked 7-5, makes 20 saves... - 3.5 for goals against, +2 for saves, -1.5 on the night. a deserved negative scoring, but nothing too horrible (and better then most forwards off nights)

does that work?

i agree that it would be nice if saves could count. it's a big difference to let in 4 goals on 20 shots or 4 goals on 60 shots

Really unless your goalie wins you still lose pts for goals against. say i have a goalie that loses 2 - 1 i still lose half a pt. If my goalie wins 5 - 4 i only come out even. with the high scoring in the NHL i still won't use my goalies. plus they aren't very good.

hey any 'strategy' that works.

personally i'm diversifying... i can't handle all my players being on one team - plus you gotta spread out the positioning so you don't end up with 6 RWs. darcy tucker allows me some choice because he goes both ways ( :eek: ) - now if only he'd start producing like mccabe.

oh, and if in doubt - i will always start the player that is playing against the penguins. everytime. :D:D:D
