Wow, today I had an amazing haul. No no, not figures related. At Staples we found a bunhc on PDA PocketPC's that had been discontinued. It's actually the same one that I already own, except I paid like $250 for it at the time. (Was also going for about $650CDN at the time so great deal) Anyway. It was marked down to $17. I ***** you not. Now this thing was returned saying that it was defective. Examined this puppy and nothing wrong. Spic and Span and everything is practically still sealed. This''l sell on eBay for about $200-250USD easy, so that's my flight to New York right there. Very happy indeed. Think of it as going out and buying a Paul Kariya figure mint for $15.

As for me, grew up cheering the Oil (the mid 90's were painful though), respected the Jets, and had fun watching The Whale. I still cheer for my favourite ex-players (Weight, Satan, Niinimaa, Our '97 hero, etc...). Can't stand Anson Carter (he was not worth Billy) and along with popular belief, Comrie Sucks!!! I also follow players that I've watched growing up like Gelinas and Francis (even though they play for those teams!) and Mario.

Forgot to mention that Jersey was my second favorite teams until the Canucks started to get good that year they played Detroit in the first round, went up 2-0 and then lost the next 4 games. What was that, like 3 years ago now? Now Canucks are my second fav team and Jersey is third. People always ask me how I can like the Devils, but when Calgary was in that streak of never making the playoffs for 7 years, I needed a playoff team and Brodeur is my favorite goalie so it just sprung from there.

Harv-Al Sports on Main St. does awesome tackle-twill numbering/letters etc. I'm not sure if they'd be willing to do NHL jerseys though as I think they have to be licenced to do so. It would certainly be worth checking though, they're really good, as my past experiences go.

back to better news, the reason i was delayed going to 'the autobody place' is i popped in to RONA looking for supplies to display my figs, and ended up buying 20' of plastic white chain link, which as it turns out, works awesome to hang figs in my apt - above the window (big windows - river view) there is a useless old curtain rod that runs the whole length of the apartment - 3 links for each figure and boom - great display (and use of space). have to give credit to my buddy as this was his idea. curtain rod is approx 1" (edit more like 1.5" ) from the wall, so the figures angle slightly downwards, but with the bottom flush against the wall, and there's no 'undue stress' on the j-hooks

the bills should say "Robitaille" or "Gretzky" or whatever on it, and you could match them up that way... but wether one gretzky came from superstore or walmart, it doesn't make a difference to them.

bought a 'collectors club series 8' set off ebay, twisted the sellers arm, 'got rid' of the other five figs. end result, my cost was less than $15. all in all it was a lot of work for me to get it at a good price, but determination and persistence paid off. plus i've now got a nice 'mcfarlane double-boxed collectors case' (which is just a box in a box, but cool and useful)

God I hate customers like that. They ask for something but they don't know what they want, what they need and don't bring anything in for you to figure out what they need. So annoying.

i dont like annoying customers either. thats why i check ahead before i go. i do have google also, but sometimes like to chat.

its good advice to bring the camera. normally for something like this i'd buy it cuz i'd see it on sale (say staples/futureshop/walmart/etc.). i just ask one question, usually to the cashier - can i return it if i'm not satisfied (ie. it doesnt work). cashiers are generally well-informed on these policies, whereas *some* salespeople are not (for some reason).

Most of your existing programs may have functionality problems, especially if they are older version programs that may not have WInXP compatibility. This would require you to reinstall all of these under the program compatibility wizard withing WinXP. It's also not really the cleanest of installs just cuz there's a lot of useless carry-on luiggage that stays residual in the system. Best way is to do a fresh install IMO. Cuz otherwise if you upgrade and crap hits the fan down the road, you'll have to reinstall your old windows and then upgrade it again. Food for thought

Well the only problem I had was going through 3 sets of batteries in 20 minutes!!! concert was ummmmm good besides the fact it was only an hour and was filled with 6-10 year olds. I felt really weird drinking a beer around elementry kids!! But Hilary looked hot last night so it made up for it!!! It took longer for us to leave the concert then the concert actualy lasted! Also I think they sold like $70000 worth of glow sticks. and if anyone can explain this to me shirts were going for 40-45 dollars each but u could buy a zip up hoody for 60 bucks?

Imagine my surprise to find an opinion column today likening the much publicized theft of Sidney Crosby's prized World Junior jersey - to that of the hunt for Mr Bin Laden.

I enjoy reading Doug Brown's opinion columns - they are usually good for a chuckle, and during the CFL season, good for some blue bomber insight.

It looks like he's got some extra time on his hands this off-season, and a lack of material – taking an opportunity to sound off on the Crosby situation he is so tired of, We all know that the best way to decrease news coverage is to write another column on it....

Let's cut to the chase - Brown can't seem to understand why anyone would possibly care about the missing Crosby jersey. After all, he is only a teenage phenom - who has yet to play in an NHL game - a league which, by most professional accounts, he is set to conquer.

The significance of this jersey is lost on Brown. Why would said future millionaire - i say ‘future’ realizing that at the age of 16 Crosby had already signed a million dollar deal with trading card company Upper Deck – why would he possibly care about some sweater?

Well, based on Brown’s thinking I can see the dilemma: The ring, the cash, the immortality – in no particular order. Brown’s priorities do not include national pride anywhere in them.

Of course, I have a bit of trouble respecting the viewpoint of someone who’s priority list includes a reference to the glove-wiping Randy Moss. Comparisons to the heart of a Team Canada hockey player, and the heart of Moss should never be made. But I digress.

Brown didn’t play in this tournament, most of us haven’t. It’s possible he’s never even seen one of the games, unlikely, but possible. It is possible that he may have no idea the importance of this tournament. If this is the case, I forgive him for his ignorance. But I doubt it’s the case…

Brown’s priority list does not include reference to the pride of wearing your nation’s symbol on your chest, in an international tournament, in the single most uniting sport and pastime in Canada. Ask any of those 17-19 year olds who made it thorough the selection camp (and those that didn’t), naww, I can’t possibly imagine any of them wanting to keep their shirts.

While the gold medal is a definite prized possession – all of the players on that team cherish the opportunity to wear that maple leaf. Those shirts will be framed as the ultimate reminder of what they accomplished. I don’t believe those gold medals had a maple leaf on them anywhere.

And ask those players – 20 years from now, regardless of the scoring titles, hart trophies, and Stanley cups – if they will remember 13,000 + screaming Canadians cheering them on to a Russian rout, on foreign soil, for the country’s first gold medal win in 7 years in a tournament that matters so very much to the country that every move they make for 2 weeks is front page worthy? Yeah you’re right, they’ll forget for sure…

Maybe Brown can’t relate to representing his country. Maybe Brown can’t relate to winning an international tournament. Maybe Brown really has no idea what he’s talking

about when discussing matters of ice hockey (surprising for a BC native)?


I can’t think of any other reason why he would liken a team Canada jersey to a collection of baby pictures.


But let’s put all the emotional part of this aside, lets look at the numbers.

After all, the return of the red jersey, decidedly more valuable then the white shirt not worn in the gold medal game – y’know the one that was going for about $20,000 on eBay – means that the white one can be auctioned off again.

To clarify – the 20 grand was to be split fifty/fifty between Hockey Canada and the Tsunami relief fund. Let’s just make sure that part is clear (contrary to what his mini criminal investigation led him to believe).

Perhaps that maybe, just maybe, there’s a bit of favoritism to a star hockey player who lost what is a hall of fame treasure in the form of a red sweater. Ok. I’ll bite. Air Canada would not have made this big of a fuss over his jersey if it went missing. It’s true. Same for me. They wouldn’t care, not about our sweaters.

So why an internal investigation by the airline? Why the involvement of the Winnipeg police? Why the RCMP? Why the coast to coast front page article? Why? Why? Why?

Because it’s not us. It’s not *any* sweater.

It’s $20,000 in charity funds – and a helping hand to one of the kids that did our hockey loving nation proud in the biggest way. Does that sound worthy of a fuss to you?

If by chance you’re still wondering about the importance of a hockey sweater – check out the back of the new five dollar bills – that quote you read is from a little Canadian book about a hockey ‘sweater’. You should read it.


So how important is this to a player? Why would it be important to Canadians?

Important enough that it’s on our national currency, and that’s about all the investigating you need to do.


To correct Crosby’s father, people can understand how much this sweater matters - we should be surprised with those who don’t.


I guess that’s what happens when you let an off-season football player who has yet to win a championship ring, secure infamy, or cash, (and doesn’t likely have any of that in his immediate future with the bombers) write an opinion column on something he doesn’t know anything about.


Not that any of this had to do with the good people of Thief River Falls. (Wherever that comment came from).

my tragically hip - canadian tour 1995 - very large, very sweet poster, the place had the supposed widest laminating machine in western canada, but still it wasn't wide enough to do about 5 or 6 of my uk - "subway" posters (a few of which have since died sad deaths :-( )

also have several other 'hip' posters, the ones i have for 'laminating/mounting" now are all under 13" x 17" (except 1 that is a little bigger and in a tube )
