I decided to go to the local card shop while here at my Mom's waiting to go to Hawaii tomorrow. I was hoping he had a box or so of Legends - because he always gave me good deals - well he didn't. So I bought a couple boxes of 2004 UD SP Prospects baseball. I think I did pretty good - just looking at the autos and jerseys - not counting the regular RC's.

Those cards from InkWorks and other companies, even Donruss/Playoff, who are putting celebs auto's on cards are nice. It's great to be able to pick up certified autographs of these people instead of playing a guessing game on authenticity from 'in person' sellers, etc.

Thanks BDK, I was just happy that neither one of them is smeared or smudged like so many of these cards have been. Being that they are so limited in the first place, I was thinking about getting the Winslow graded just for the fact that not many of these would pull down a 9.5 or 10 on the auto's.

The once about every 4 weeks futile attempt to find the two stinkin' auto's I need to complete my 2003 UD NFL SP Authentic "Sign of the Times" set... OK, anybody who knows anyone who might know someone who has or knows somebody who might have either of these cards, please let me know!
2003 UD SP "Sign of the Times" John Elway /12 OR the Terrell Owens /286. ... Upper Deck says there are 286 of the T.Owens. I beg to differ as I've only EVER seen 3 for sale. There is a reason my emails go unanswered.

2004 UD Legends: A few of the base Legends singles moved up. J. Brown 8, Starr 10, Tarkenton 6.

As for auto's: Immortal Inscriptions: BSanders 175, Sayers 60, Elway 200, Aikman 100. Just about any Steelers auto's.
IF you want any of the individual Legendary Signatures, let me know because there's an up arrow next to just about any one of them that were listed. Bradshaw and Namath are still unlisted SPs.

Yeah, this '04 Legends set is probably going to be something like these '03 Sign of the Times auto's I'm 2 away from completing. Some of the "regular" auto's will be shorter than the parallels (Immortal Inscriptions). UD does some weird stuff, but it wouldn't surprise me if, at some point, they release some exact numbers on the regulars and they're tougher than the parallel sets. One example from the 2003 SOTT NFL SP set is the Joe Montana. I have the 'regular', numbered from 21. The 'gold' parallel is numbered to 25. Silly, but the J.Rice/J.Elway/M.Allen also exist in greater quantities as the gold version compared to the regular issue.

BDK if those 'hot pack' theories were right about these guys re-sealing them, I'd bet that any 'hot pack' listed as having either a 'jersey or autograph' is almost always going to have a jersey or game/race used card in your case. Obviously the game/race/jersey used cards are the less valuable of the two varieties and will probably be what you'll get. This is why I was suspicious after just a few and stopped buying 'hot packs'.

Oh, hey... thanks for bumping a post that doesn't contain any "D" words or technical concerns. Autographed sports cards are fun.

Baldunonot bad. manning's auto price has gone up since he had the monster season last year.

I know i've been looking for some auto. cards of him but, they're getting rediculous. I bought the 03 Ultimate signature from a guy on beckett for a decent price half of book. Not badd for a nice auto.

Peyton is a perfect example of just about no one caring about his cards/memorabilia until the media started with all the hype. I vividly recall purchasing his auto's for 25% of book... easily. I have since traded or sold all of them since they are going for realistic prices these days. I was lucky enough to pull a redemption for something that UDA couldn't fill, so they sent me a Peyton auto'd home jersey about 2 years ago. Of course I do still have that!

I have a quick question for you guys. Is there a site that lists all the autoed cards of a certain player? Maybe not the ones numbered to like 10, but the more common ones. Also is there a way to tell if a certain athlete is affiliated with a certain card or memorabilia company?

Beckett has a general player list and you might be able to tell which are auto'd by the name of the subset. Thats the best that I can come up with :P

I learned a lesson from this card. The auction had one of those enter your zip for a shipping quote things. I figured how bad could shipping for a card be so I never checked. $5.85 for a card I won for $3.01 :eek: She ended up knocking it down to $3.85 after I whined.

Just what is the meaning of life, you ask? Oh sorry, similar question!:p Here's an example for you: I had the Ray Lewis 2003 Sign of the Times redemption on file with them since early 2004 when SP Authentic was released. I just got the cards that were sent out in place of it a week ago. Ray decided not to return his, so I got a Jeremy Shockey SPx RC and a Archie Manning Legends 2001 auto. The Lee Suggs is STILL pending. What stinks is that I think I paid something like $45 for the Lee Suggs since that's what they were going for and it was a tough redemption to pull. If they send out some replacements for this one I'll be a little upset.

So, you could be waiting upwards of 2 weeks or 2 years. You may even have some luck if you wrote Mr. Leftwich a letter care of the team and ask him when he plans on returning his autographed cards! It might reach you first.;) Overall, UD is usually pretty good about replacing redemptions with similarly valued replacements if they don't get them back from the players. Leftwich is a somewhat difficult sig, so it'll probably be a while if it's a newer redemption.

I have a problem with this win though, the seller lives in NC as do I. After I won the auction I wrote him and asked if he would lower the s/h rate(which is $2.85 for first class)since I too lived in NC. He reponded with,

"Cheap already, sent invoice this morning thanks."

It will show up with a .49 stamp on it I'm sure.

Well looks like Fleer is closing down if you have not heard,Rumors started flying last week about them shutting down.This sucks for folks with redemptions,I hope those who have redemptions can get them honored, but I doubt it.Borrowed this article from Trade Fax by Sports Collector's Digest.

FLEER FIRES CARD STAFF, LOOKS FOR FINANCIAL OPTIONS

Fleer Trading Cards dismissed its trading card employees Friday, leaving several employees to run the die-cast division and CFO Chris Tobia to look to sell the company in the coming weeks.

The company has been dealing with financial shortfalls for several months and last week cancelled plans to attend this weekend's NFL Players Rookie Premiere photo shoot in Los Angeles. Sources told Trade Fax the company had meetings with some of its licensors last week to discuss their financial straits. In addition, sources say one of the company's printers refused to release several upcoming products because of unpaid bills.

Current owner Roger Grass and his father, Alex, purchased the company from Marvel Entertainment in 1999. Marvel had purchased Fleer in 1992 and SkyBox in 1995, merging the two companies into Fleer/SkyBox.

Fleer was shopped around last year and existing card companies had submitted offers to purchase the manufacturer. Grass opted not to sell and the company invested money in product upgrades and promotional initiatives. Those companies are now left to assess if they would still be interested in purchasing any of Fleer's brand names, including its Fleer Collectibles line of die-cast vehicles that Fleer execs have said has been a profitable line for the company.

Also to be decided is whether licensors will look to replace Fleer's brands, particularly in basketball, where Fleer is the league's longest continuous licensee. The NBA would have only two active licensees.

Fleer is the industry's second-oldest trading card manufacturer, with sports-card roots dating back to the 1950s. It ha been a continuous licensee of baseball since 1981, football since 1990 and basketball since 1986-87 and was recently a WWE licensee. The company also produced hockey and racing cards within the past decade as well as entertainment cards and a collectible card game.

The news reached dealers over the weekend, and they responded with justifiable concerns regarding preorder payments and redemption cards. Within the industry leaders, even those awaiting an overall reduction in brand quantities were hit hard by the news. As one distributor told Trade Fax, "Yes, we've been struggling with a glut in the marketplace, but these were my friends."

I have a Falcons OR Ravens Deion Sanders for anyone who has one of these Terrell Owens SOTTs cards to trade. As noted numerous times during my search the last year, UD says 288 exist. The rep told me that 188 have been redeemed and are out there.... somewhere. I am not exactly sure where there is, but apparently it's somewhere in magical storybook land where Babe Ruth is showing up to teach hitting drills for your local little leaguers. I had 3 redemptions on file for this card and NONE were honored. Gotta call UD's bluff on this one.

Yeah - that was probably the best episode yet. A little disapointed with what the Black Rock was - since it didn't look very dilapidated or like it had been there for 16+ years, but none the less - it was an awesome episode.

Even if they do, from what I've heard and read, it's supposed to focus on offenses for 2005. So, I'm thinking that if they do release a smaller auto set, the demand will easily compensate for the lesser amount of cards and drive the prices insanely high once more.

Just thinking about the possible double/triples of QBs from some teams is crazy. My wallet is probably crying at the thought of what'll be released for the Cowboys...:eek:

The seller said they contacted UD and they confirmed that Paul Horning, Tom Jackson, and Nick Buonicontt were not made. I thought Lawrence Taylor and Franco Harris weren't made either but their listed in the set that he/she is selling.

I used to go to Long Island a lot to get autos. I usually get a few Rangers at the Garden each year and only found out how to get Devils (and their opponents) last hockey season. I wound up getting a lot though. I still think hockey got cancelled because I figured out how to get autos 20 minutes from my house. If hockey ever starts back up, I'll show you the ropes. :D

I just checked ebay for some Topps Draft Picks Auto cards - and I WILL NOT be collecting this set

EVERY SINGLE card on ebay has a crooked, off-center or sloppy placed Autograph Sticker - there is no way in HELL I am collecting cards like that.

You think there will be more than one set of these! Season 6 should be getting done soon, and that's it apparently for the series! I don't know if they would make more card sets after that! I was under the impression it was a one time deal, but that would be great if there are more sets in the future! Galdolfini is a must pickup for me! He is the show, IMO!

If this set is focused on offense, as planned by UD from what I've heard, it should be stronger than the 2004, if that's possible at this point!

Paul!! I was at this place the other night, and they had Jim Plunkett, Paul Krause, and Darryl Lamonica. Need any of those? They wanted $40 cdn for each, but I have no clue what they are worth! Only ever heard of Plunkett, myself! :o The prices at this place are extremely high, so I'll bet those 3 autos are out to lunch! Paul, I emailed UD about the Legends autos in question (Tom Jackson, Lawrence Taylor, Nick Buoniconti, Franco Harris, Roger Staubach) and will post what they say about them if they return my mail.

I emailed them about the Franco and never got a response.Im pretty sure the Buoniconti wasnt produced, there was suposed to be a "No Name Defense" Triple auto in the Legendary Lines of Defense with Buoniconti/Manny Fernandez/**** Anderson set that didnt get produced, maybe he didnt sign. I dont think the Franco exsists, i check about everyother day for Franco auto's on ebay and i have never seen one. I dont think the Tom Jackson was made either not sure why though since he is in the Legendary Lines of Defense triple auto set mayne he just signed for the 75 of those that where made.
