Infinite Crisis----- background needed?

Hi -
I want to get into the whole DC Infinite Crisis thingie, but don't have a background as to what has happened so far. Are there are tpb I need to read before reading IC?

It ties into Crisis on Infinte Earths (which I have not read, yet), but I haven't had any problems following along with the Villians United, Day of Vengence, etc. However, from what I've read, The actually IC title draws heavily on COIE so it looks like i'll have to pick it up this weekend.

Start with "Crisis on Infinity earths", although I must admit I haven't read it myself yet either :(
Then:
- "Identity Crisis" Part 1-7 (explains why the Justice League is fighting among themselfves)
- "Countdown to Inifinte Crisis".
- "JLA" #115-119 ("Crisis of conscience" Part 1-5)
- "Prelude to Infinite Crisis" (was kind of a vague comic IMO)

Then either one of these 4, they don't really have anything to do with each other except for the fact that they all continue in Infinite Crisis, and they all take place at the same time anyway:
- "Day of Vengeance" #1-6
- "Villains United" #1-6
- "The Rann-Thanagar War" #1-6
- (Optional "Superman" #217) "The Omac Project" #1-3, then the 4-parter "Sacrifice", which is: "Superman" #219, "Action Comics" #829, "Adventures of Superman" #642 and "Wonder Woman" #219, and then the rest of "The Omac Project", #4-6

and then, finally:

-"Infinity Crisis" #1-6 (although just #1 has been released yet ;) )

There are a few more Tie-Inns (like "Superman" #217, you don't really need to read it but if your a completist then it is part of it)

You'll at least need a crash course on Crisis on Infinite Earths. It's been said, though, that everything will make sense by the end of Infinite Crisis 2.

Thanks Psymon and GhostinthaMachine for the advice.
I checked out the links you (GhostinthaMachine) gave and read up on IC. Sounds very complicated and don't know if I'm in the mood to read all of them and try to follow. But who knows, maybe one day. Probably pick up some batman tpb instead.
