View Full Version : Question about the NHL Past and Present case sale

I know the sale said the repaints wouldn't be guaranteed minty, but I recall reading that the chase and regular figures would be. Well, I got my cases today and sure enough, one of my chases (Hasek) was badly crumpled on the bottom. A few regs were too, but that's no big deal. Anyone know who I can contact about this? I'll forward it to the store customer service address also.

Thanks,
Chris

I'd like to know too. My series 1 repaint (Aves Bourque) was smashed on the side and useless to me. Bummer.

They said the Series 1 repaints may not be minty from what I recall. But I know I saw something about the newer chases being mint....

Ahhh! Found the link:

The Collector's Club is celebrating the return of hockey by offering another one-of-a-kind NHL chase set. Please read carefully as this one is almost as complicated as the new NHL rules changes.

This limited-edition offer includes:

-- Four randomly selected regular figures from NHL Series 4, 7 and 9 (please note that you may not receive a figure from all three series - YOU MAY RECEIVE MORE THAN ONE FIGURE FROM THE SAME SERIES)

And

-- Two randomly selected regular figures from NHL Legends Series 1 and 2 (again, please note that you may not receive a figure from both series - YOU MAY RECEIVE TWO FIGURES FROM THE SAME SERIES)

Plus

-- One rare NHL Series 1 surprise figure. This figure will be either: Ray Bourque, Avs; Ray Bourque, Bruins; Curtis Joseph, Maple Leafs; Patrick Roy, Avs; Steve Yzerman, Red Wings red jersey; or Steve Yzerman, Red Wings white jersey. (please note that we are nearing the end of our stock on these rare NHL 1 figures and that the clamshell packaging is not guaranteed to be in mint condition)

Plus

-- One chase figure from NHL Series 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, or 8. These chase figures will be in mint condition.

Yeah, I don't mind "not mint". I understood i might get a ding. But damn. They might as well have sent me an open Bourque --because it was smashed.

Yeah. My L2 Gretz has a crumple, and my Chelios packaging is completely broken open. Also, my "mint" Nolan chase has obvious and kinda bad shelf wear. I'm in for finding out what to do about the chase fig and the broken package. I think it's only fair that they deliver what they promise. Any other dealer, we'd be gathering the rowdy mob right now with torches and pitchforks...:)

i wasn't expecting mint series one, but i also wasn't expecting totally damaged pieces either. they should have stated some pieces might be damged. there is a difference between not mint and damaged! hope mine aren't too bad.

I had a total of 4 pieces damaged in one case. The Hasek chase was crunched in the bottom right hand corner. Both Legends Gretzky's were roughed up, but those didn't bother me too much. Then another had some wrinkles and damage around the hook.

On a side note, the Giguere chase I got in the other case was very minty.

From now on most of you should expect to get damaged stuff. If you expect it to be damaged and it's minty fresh you will have a good suprise.

I don't mind dings and even a crease. But crushed?! I wouldn't have purchased if I knew that was even a chance. Becuase I have NEVER received a good case from a dealer or TMP --so I always assume the worst. So, here, I assumed dings (and no horsemen). I didn't assume "smashed so badly it could not be displayed or traded".

A while back they had a bad packer and that seemed to be fixed. I have a big order coming soon that is not nhl related. If that comes screwed up the bad packer is back.

Was it Hasek series 2 or 7?

vegaspuck

Series 7.

Got my e-mail back from Customer Service. They offered store credit or replacement if available. Pretty happy with the offer despite the short delay in the response.

Thanks,
Chris

I emailed them just now. I am not too concerned with the open Chelios, but I really would like the Chase Nolan to be mint, and mine isn't even NrMnt. The package has terrible shelf wear.

received 1 of 2 sets today, the other set is still at fed ex sorting facility. Opened 1st case received a series 1 patrick roy in pretty good condition & a series 7 Hasek chase. The roy is in better condition than the hasek..so much for being mint..I guess I'll have to wait till Wednesday for the other case....

I have to report in that this was the worst arriving package I have ever rec'd from the store also. As luck would have it, not to much internal damage but the box looked like it went through the grinder. Limited packing material cause the box to cave in almost three inches on one end. Big pull was the Bruins Ray. Was hoping for a Stevie Y.
Did anyone receive a pack of hockey cards in there order? I was suprised to find a pack from 90-91 season inside. No good pulls from the pack but thought that was a nice touch and suprise.

They are sending a calltag to me tomorrow. They suggested I tried cleaning the shelf wear with WD40, which I am more than happy to try. The open one, they said they will replace. I am very happy with this. Great company to do business with.

I guess it's time for me weigh in on what I've been reading here. First, if you have a service related issue you need to contact us (either Collector's Club or Customer Service) through the main site: http://www.spawn.com/info/contact.aspx. Second, from our experience, anything other than mint is considered "damaged" by the bulk of our collectors. I ask, would any of you have not purchased this set if the item description was worded, "the clamshell packaging may have minor package damage" on the series 1 figures? I inspected the series 1 pieces that went out and some of the product was as good as what we sent out in the NHL promo we did earlier this year. Some of it had obvious crinkles on the sidewall (damaged? not mint? - if someone out there can send me the official package grading chart that would be helpful). I don't think our wording was misleading. Hopefully we're not just hearing sour grapes from those who received a dinged series 1 repaint - if you were expecting mint (err, I mean not damaged) and didn't get it, that's the risk you took. If there was only some way we could somehow ship the mint packages to the resellers and all the dinged ones to the openers...

Seriously, if you have a legitimate complaint involving a damaged figure or shipping costs or why your buddy got his before you got yours, as always, we'll be happy to address it. All we ask is that you go through proper channels.

Wow, that's a pretty broad brush you're painting with there, saying that anyone who appreciates mint packaging is a reseller.

I prefer to be called anal retentive beyond belief.... ;)

Dave- thanks for your post. I can assure you my Aves Borque is much more than "dinged." I understood that these figs would almost certainly be dinged, but I didn't expect an "opener." I sent in a missive to customer service today as instructed. Let me know if there is anything else I can do. Thanks.

Well... I did go through proper channels. Here is the response I got today:

"Unfortunately, the condition of the series 1 repaint Chase figures was NOT guaranteed, and most of them did, in fact, have some damage to the packaging. We cannot accept returns for these figures, and there are no more available in stock."

So I'm out of luck on my smashed, opener Aves Borque. As I said earlier, I did expect "some damage to the packaging". I did not expect a completely smashed opener.
