The sea is rough today as the clouds gather overhead. Despite the calming blue clarity of the water around you, the reality of the situation is such that if the waves grow much larger there is a great chance your small fishing boat will capsize and you and your fellow fishermen will tumble into the wet oblivion of the deep sea. Your nets have long since been pulled to deck and your catch has been swept overboard, back to live in the alien world of the endless depths. Now, you and the your three companions cling to life as you are tossed about.

Wet and a little frightened, you have been in this situation before. Such is the life of a fisherman. Each time before, you have made it home with yet another harrowing tale to tell. This time, however, with no land in sight, you are thrown from your boat and splash down in the cool wet eternity of the sea. When you surface, gasping for air and straining to see against the salty sting of the water in your eyes, you can only just make out the shape of your boat, bobbing and turning on the other side of the growing waves. And the sky grows dark. You scream as your fellow fisherman call back through the crashing distance, but they are too far gone. The winds and current have carried them away from you and you are left alone. To die.

Up and down. The waves carry you. Up and down. And you just float, relaxed. Struggling will only hasten your demise. If the storm can pass and your comrades can keep the ship afloat, they will come back for you. Many have been saved, so there is no need to give up hope just yet. Many have been saved. You tell yourself this over and over again. The waves batter you and you grow tired. You hold on to hope, although, inside, you know what is to come. The storm passes after a few hours, or at least what feels like a few hours. And you float. If the boat remained intact, they will be looking for you. But where? Who knows where the winds and waves have taken you. And hours turn into days. Your lips are cracked and sour from the sun and the salt water. You’re hungry. Thirsty. And getting weaker by the hour.

And you float.

You think back upon your life. Your dreams. Family and friends.

And you sink.

Slowly your head begins to drop below the surface. You push yourself back up, but only for a moment. You sink again. Kicking, violently with one last burst, one last hope for life, and you come back to the surface. But now your legs are rocks, your whole body is heavy and defeated. Your chin drops below the water and you take one big, last breath.

And you sink.

The water is clear. Crystal. Eternal. You have spent most of your life in this world – either above it of surrounded by it. It is only fitting you should die here. A peaceful, loving death, in the embrace of your one true, life-long love.

And you sink.

There are schools of fish swarming in the distance. Dancing through the sea. Effortlessly. Beautifully. The deeper you go the blue begins to fade into a thick, dark haze. The world down here becomes black and you have never been this deep before. You are at peace as the pressure pushes on the sides of your skull. It is almost done now. The air in your lungs is gone and far away another school of fish can be seen dancing through the underwater currents.

Your vision goes. The world becomes black. For how long, you don’t know, but you come to as a rush of water moves past you and something large swims overhead. You catch a glimpse of a fin, of something (http://board.spawn.com/images/board/1020fin.jpg), and your lungs are on fire. And you need air. And the pressure is too much. And you look up toward the world above and see that this death, down amongst blue, will not be peaceful at all…

McFarlane’s Dragons: Quest For the Lost King Series 3 (http://www.spawn.com/toys/series.aspx?series=302) is coming!!!

Hiya folks!

I’m back from my extended vacation and digging through both my desk and my INBOX. If you wrote to me during the last week I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. I spent a lot of time last night weeding out the dead predictions from the 2005 MLB Challenge thread. There are nine people (ten if you count me) who correctly predicted a White Sox vs. Astros World Series.

Tomorrow’s NEWS update brings excitement (and the requisite ensuing gnashing of teeth) when we unveil photography of our NHL Legends 3 figures. The lineup includes Wayne Gretzky (as a New York Ranger), Bobby Orr, Marcel Dionne, Pete Mahovlich, Tony Esposito and Don Cherry.

For today’s update I’ve got your long-awaited look at an upcoming 12-inch NHL figure. Martin Brodeur and Steve Yzerman get the “super-size” treatment this fall – you’ll see detailed photography in tomorrow’s NEWS story, but here’s a look at our first packaged sample:

Look for Marty to arrive on shelves in late November. Also, as the Shaq/Backboard two-pack is headed to retail stores this fall, there’s sure to be a run on the single backboard in our Spawn Store. In preparation, we decided the good old backboard needed a brand new packaging facelift:

That’s all for today!
