considering that they've been telling us for for months that they were going to release a special version of Clown V through the club it's hardly something they just threw together. And to be honest, as someone who knows the a decent bit about the Spawn mythos I'd have to say that this version makes a hell of a lot more sense than the one that came in Series 27 (March '05). The Clown is every bit a sick and sadistic as the way he's portrayed with his new base, accessories and paint apps. The CC fig would never have been able to be sold at the mass retailers.

A decent amount of discontent for Clown V was shown on the toy board, as was the desire for a i.007 with cover accurate paint apps. so instead rereleasing these at retail and going through that whole process they are going to release the new versions through the Spawn store.

what I wanna know is how hard is it to make the hanging spawn. something musta happened to that production like it all went up in a fire, so to make some money up, mcf decided to throw out any old lame exclusives.

the figures themselves are already fully packaged and sitting in the warehouse here in the US. they are waiting on the capes that were accidentally left out of production. they are going to release them complete and with the cape as a pack in. in order to get the capes made they had to stick them in at the earliest available opening in the production schedule so as to not delay anything afterwards.

methinks the time from starting production (that includes creating the molds for mass production) to arrival at warehouse is in the area of 3-4 months. then you think about how many additional lines they added this year to the catalogue. obviously they've been planning the Clown V and I.007 repaint for awhile considering that Clown will go on sale on Monday (taking that 3-4 months back is June/July) and that the other goes on sale in January meaning production on it probably started last month. that means that they went ahead of the capes in the production schedule, which is scheduled months in advance of production.

it's not like they decided a couple weeks ago that they're losing money because they didn't sell thier exclusive figure yet (which they don't break the bank over to begin with) and thus decided to throw out a couple filler excusives to make up for the major losses the incurred. these figures had to have been in the works for awhile anyway.

maybe i read rick griggrs post wrong, but it does say "never mentioned before". so tell me how its been months in planning???

This one is short notice, but the Spawn collectors should love this one!
Series 27 exclusive Clown 5 - This will go on sale THIS COMING MONDAY, October 31st!(like I said, SHORT notice) - Limit 2 per household. This figure has never been announced. It is the Clown from Spawn series 27, but instead of standing on a pile of junk, he's standing on a dismembered body and holding the torn-off arms over his head! All fans of horror, gore, and Spawn will want this for their collection!

that's actually untrue. it's been known for months that some type of variation of the Clown V figure would be available as a club exclusive. I believe that came from Jon Goff on the toy board. there were no other details given.

evidence 1:
http://board.spawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=220621&highlight=clown+exclusive

evidence 2:
http://board.spawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=208815&highlight=clown+exclusive

are you telling me that we were just guessing at things over on the toy board?

additionally, "never mentioned before" has no bearing on planning, btw.

for example... I can work on a figure for 3 years and announce it's going on sale on Monday even though I've never mentioned it before. that doesn't mean I made it today to sell for tomorrow.

if you really don't understand the concept that it takes a decent bit of time to go from idea to proto to mold to mass produced item to available for retail sale then I really don't know what else to say that I haven't already said. you seem to be quite confused.

yes, the clown CC was announced months ago. there is NO suprise at all that its coming out....its not a rush job...more of a reorganization of what order exclusives come out in what order.

if im not mistaken, and i dont think i am (my info came from a VERY good source), the hanging spawn was done and shipped and showed up with no cape. suck. so they spent some time weighing the options. sell it as is? sell is as is and include a cape but not in the package? start over? i believe the answer was 'start over', so that is why the delay is so long. id be willing to bet we MAY see a 'capeless' warehouse find CC hanging spawn in the future.

relax.

the answer i got from a very reliable source is that the cape will just be added on to the outside of the packaging. they had to retool the cape so it would work in production so thats the big hold up

My source told me something completely different than the two previous sources mentioned.

I received informaiton that the cape is going to be an ongoing item like te stands. They have finally thought of the customers and the little people who like to wear tattered red capes.

The figure is just being held until the capes can some in, and then you can order a pack of 5 cpaes at the same time as you do the figure.

McFarlane should really listen to their costumers as to what the majority wants if they want their sales to go high. I mean, c'mon! Who here requested to do an exclusive version of the Clown.

McFarlane should really listen to their costumers as to what the majority wants if they want their sales to go high. I mean, c'mon! Who here requested to do an exclusive version of the Clown.

1) the board is a small sample group that makes up about 1% of thier total customer base. they listen to us 90% of the time whether we are correct or wrong. That's why we're getting the comic accurate i.007

2) there was overwhelming displeasure back in from Feb-Apr concerning the Clown V from series 27 thus the new version of Clown whose base and subject matter it involves are far closer to what Clown really is than it's predecessor's.

3) the club doesn't break bank on CC figs in the long run, therefore they really don't have a very large incentive for ulta-high sales. Besides, when you limit the number of total figures to 5k for example and already know the sunk costs and the exact number it will take to break even. I'm quite sure they'll break even. if they were trying to make a large profit off of these thing they'd sell them for $20 apiece before shipping like Wizard and NECA

4) I'm forgiving you the fact that you said "costumers" since today is Halloween

Actually, Avatar of Chaos seems to know what he's talking about! There are a lot of factors that go into an exclusive. And you all are right, the Clown exclusive was given a brief mention in a previous bulletin, but there were no real details. We NEVER just throw something out there as "filler", as these are planned way in advance and go into production months before they are released. The fact of the matter is, we would not be able to sell the exclusive Clown figure to the mass retailers because of the gore factor. We offer it through the Collector's Club, because most hardcore fans appreciate the blood and guts figures, while the general public and mass retailers would never go for it. I get a kick out of all the conspiracy theories some people put out there regarding the Hanging Spawn and others. They are all incorrect assumptions. The main issue with the Hanging Spawn was the cape, but since we had other exclusives in the works, which were manufactured without any problems, we went ahead and released them first.

I was never able to get to the point of human trials on that. I was kind of a fusion from a Wendy's commercial with the old "how many licks dows it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop" commercial.

I always seemed to consume the test material prior to trails.
