On the release list in the spawn store, there are NFL 12 cases listed. Are these cases the same kind that dealers get or will this be something different?

From this point forward, we plan on releasing a limited number of full case assortments on all sports lines (same as Canadian exclusive NHL sets). It's my understanding that retail stores get solid case packs with chase(s) - meaning all of one figure packed in the case. Ours will be an assortment of all figures with the chance to receive a chase figure. Caveat: you may receive an incomplete set i.e. two of one figure and none of another (we've seen these in rare instances). Also, you may get 2 chases figures or none...

Taking business away from your original investors (direct dealers) is nothing less than a cheap shot. You're all ready hurting your sales by offering individual pieces in the Spawn Store. Retail and direct dealer orders are down. What a slap in the face of the people who worked behind the scenes to make this hobby a fiscal sucsess for McFarlane.

Dave these will these be the same cases that TRU and KBtoys recieve (factory sealed)?Or will you guys pack the cases at the werehouse in Tempe? Bump for a price if one has been set?

It's funny you dont even know what you are shipping out. The retail stores (like Walmart and TRU) get assortment cases. "Hobby" retailers like me get the same cases. I havent heard of anyone getting solid player cases (especially with chases). The person that said it above is right - it was bad enough when you guys started offering singles on the site, it will be worst when you start offering cases. Unless you guys are completely insane, to totally not alienate your dealer base you will have to charge $125 plus shipping a case... which only the non-thrifty and uninformed will jump on.

no offense dave but thats absolutely pathetic you dont know how cases ship to stores. theyve only done solid packed player cases on rare occassions and those didnt go to all stores. all stores get mixed cases.
maybe its more pathetic mcfarlane has people working there that dont know what they are talking about

Not directly knocking Dealers here, but c'mon.. you can get a reg tom brady at TRU/KayBToys Walmart for $9-11.. to where other Collectibles stores and online shops sell for like $14-20 cause its a brady and a Peg holder like at any of the above named stores goes for 9.99. I'd look to get a case and or grabb my figures off Spawn Store for 10 even across the board. I'm sure your not getting charged more for your chases in the cases, but they double in price automatically. who's getting snuffed Me and Mcfarlane thats who. Then you got the retailers that hog cases and collect all the chases up and sell them off via eBay or what ever and the average collector now has to dig deepin hos pockets. When can we breathe a bit and have a chance at a super chase like everyone else.

I ordered some NFL 11 regs and they were shipped in a an NFL 11 cases stamped: TMP Collectors Club Julius Jones (case of 12), so the CC appears to get full cases of each player and not the regular mixed assortments. No stores get solid cases though. Maybe it is an 8 pack like the MLB 12 or something
ogrjmj
11-02-2005, 08:03 PM
it would make sense to do the 8 pack. i know i would be more apt to spend $80 on a case of 8 with a chase or two and a better shot at all the regs. than $120 for a case with a chase and 3 of one player and none of another. i don't see this hurting other retailers since from the sound of it they will be pretty limited. i've never bought a case before but i might if they do sell the 8 pack.

You are right there, no retailers such as Walmart,TRU,Kaybee get solid cases though, even Champs cracks cases and repacks them regionally. The Team Stores and the TRU MLB promotion are basically the only exceptions.

Jetsman.. your WRONG, on your solid case assumption..
TRU in OHIO did GET solid case assortments of LEBRON..so there is a chance that big market stores will and can get solidcase figures..
each Lebron case had 11 regs and 1 chase.

Why does mcfarlane continue to do this, I mean there are ways to grow their business and hobby but every time they slap their distribution channel around it brings it down. It won't be long before dealers are a thing of the past.

From what I have heard from the store itself is that they will be getting sealed cases in just like TRU and KBtoys gets. It is a full 12 count and it will be an assortment and a chance at a chase. No word yet on what it will cost. My guess is that it will be around the same price as what the dealers charge.

this could possibly be the most misinformed post I have ever read. Mcfarlane gets snuffed are you for real??? When Mcfarlane used their series 1 repaints to "clear out" their warehouse who got snuffed??? Their dealers, why didn't they offer dealers those repaints with case purchases??? Instead they have dealers buy up the stuff and then once they have maxxed sales their they sell directly to the end user using a promotion their own distribution channel can't compete with. In what world does that make sense.

I am not sure that I can even understand the above... but what I got out of it is that you think all dealers sell individuals for $14-20???? I sell mine consistently for an avg of $8. Ask around. And yet, we still lose business to the spawn store that sells them for $10 plus higher shipping... so, we are forced to open fewer and fewer cases and sell less singles. We focus on sealed cases as its a niche collectors cant get anywhere else (ie brick and mortar tru/walmart). Now, McFarlane shoots that down. And even though we will most assuredly sell for less, people will still purchase from the spawn store -- why? I dont know....

I can get some of the guys buying cases from me to back me up on how rare this is. I suppose the 7 gretzky's in my nhl legends cases was the first and only time as well, nobody else had that happen.
I didn't open a case of nfl legends that didn't have 1 of or 2 of
3 elway
3 aikman
4 sanders
rare it's about as rare as gas prices going up. I would say it would be rare to open a case and receive a complete set, and even more rare to open a case and receive a complete set in mint condition, lol

Agreed!!!! And the reason why they come to Spawn and purchase them, pick up one random figure and you will figure it out in like 2 seconds, THEY HAVE BILLBOARDS ALL OVER THE PACKAGE! Everyone knows www.spawn.com is where they are made so you go there, click on store and oh my god they have EVERYTHING I wish to find at a store and more, so they buy, buy, and come back some more and buy!

I really don't see why smaller retailers bother sell McFarlane toys anymore. This is just another step in the worng direction. You're hurting retailers enough by offering regular figures. For all of those still selling, it's time to get out of the game or better yet, get your own license and take them head on.

I find it fascinating when a mcfarlane staff member knows less about his own product then many board members do ... I think Lebron "1st version" was the last time you guys did a solid case pack of one type of figure....and this was not the "norm" but rather a rare exception. It is a very bad business model when the manufacturer starts to retail their own cases in direct competion with their direct and indirect dealers .....unbeleivable actually! You think a big company like mcfarlane would have had some consultants advise against retailing their own cases....but well I guess they will learn the hard way.

I would love to hear what this is all about, I mean there are 100's of ways to promote this product and help it grow, yet they seem completely oblivious to it and instead snub the distribution channel, snub collectors and continue to make decisions that leave most of us scratching our heads. I trust they know what they are doing but then I read posts like the one by dave and again find myself scratching my head. I'm not in it for the money so for me it doesn't really matter, I'm more interested in what the thinking is behind these types of decisions, because I have not been able to figure it out to this point. Mind you I'm not the brightest guy in the world so please explain to me.

i think from the sound of it they're going to be 8 fig cases. if they are 12 fig cases at $120 and then shippinng cost im sure you dealers have nothing to worry about. and if they are the 8 fig. cases im sure they will be pretty limited, so once again i wouldn't think it will make a huge dent in your case business. i know that i have never bought a case before and the only way i would consider it from the spawn store is if they were 8 fig. cases with a chase.

Sorry, I didnt realize you are new to Mcfarlane and the boards... :p
Before you make an informed decision, compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. The individuals for $8 I speak of are "regular" figures. Just like the spawn store sells for $10. The spawn store doesnt sell Alex Smiths or $300 NH Bradys for $10, so why would you expect me to sell them for $8? Although, I was very cheap on several Alex Smiths: http://board.spawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229384&highlight=godlytoys
Anyhow, you are referring to regulars and then quote CHASE pieces. Those are not the same. The spawn store does not sell those types of pieces as individuals as you are implying...

Look i'm not looking to pick a fight, just stating what the little guy gets a chance to do. Plus.. what i was refering to was being able to get a case at a reasonable price cause all figures inside would be EQUAL across the board. Not having to go to places selling Alex Smiths that i could get here for $10 instead of the $25-45 range. Mc farlane is going to make his money like you'll do if you bought cases and they came with a few NH Brady's. I know for sure cases dont vary in range one with NH's are more than ones with out, its the challenge/gamble to get lucky getting a case with that particular chase. They're keeping it interesting and making it that way for the dealer to make the money off the 1-2 chases in each case. njoy! i have nothing against that its that, but for once an average collector can get lucky and maybe hit the big one by having a chance at it.
This site from what i've been seeing is awesome how some groups work together to get each other things they seek/want. That is fantastic and keep me here to get involved. I've been in contact with a online store arranging my pre-order of NFL 12 series cases. If they offer them here i'll grab one too.

Sometimes you can get deals tho... i spent 13 months in Iraq and missed out on alot of collecting. I'm a giants fan and when the 2Pks of Straham and McNabb and the Manning ones went for $10 bucks when they were 20+ elsewhere i got mine here. But before they were offerd at Spawn store i got mine from Spawntoys.com. when NFL Legends 1 came out LT was hard to find but spawn store had them available. the alex smiths are not chases. just a shorter printed regular. and they were oly for sale for a couple of hours. you'll have a better chance getting one at retail then you would have here.

WOW rafprop.. you misread hommie..
What i got at spawntoys was the 2pk McNabb/straham.. and later it came out at the Spawn store. then, when NFL legends came out I got my Regular LT at the Spawn store for $10 as it was hard to find or it was going for like $15+. I order'd a Chase LT and it came yesterday a Regular LT from another place not the Spawn Store.

that rocks... let me get a link to your site and i'll order an Alex Smith or a NH Tom Brady for $8 each OUTSTANDING!!!...
Show me a site that sells Chases at cost for what they'd come in a case that i could get at the spawn store. Thats what i'm getting at. Dont get me wrong... i'm learning here on this board people once you gain thier trust you can get a decent deal on chases and so forth. Its crazy when i an go around my town and see different prices for figures that came out the same box that arent even chases that range from $9-14s. Even some stores online. Only place i've seen that has deals is the BST forum and recently BBT.com on older figs. Its not like they dont sell cases now... I've bought a few of them for the 3" figs to complete my yankees collection of them. I see where your coming from, but i say hey let us the collector get a chance to get figs at across the board price.

glad not all online sites are like that, but when you trying to prove why McFarlane shouldnt sell case's cause its hurting dealers and you pop up with that... if i were a dealer i'd be pissed....

McFarlane selling cases now, had to see that one coming! McFarlane Toys continues to alienate their direct dealers, for what? To make some extra $$$?
Lucky enough for me i'm a dealer in Canada, cause I wouldn't waste my time or money if I was dealing in the US. Exclusives are one thing, but now they're selling everything they make online now and right away too. No time for direct dealers to move their stuff.
Very, very bad move on the part of McFarlane Toys!!
