View Full Version : *** - Varitek Lottery Bogus!!!

Why is it that I have to spend 50.00 to get a Varitek exclusive on Ebay. I thought the lottery only entitled you to one piece. I see that on Ebay, some dealers are seelling between 4 and 5 of these figures. One dealer says that you were entitled to 2 pieces per lottery won, so that means he won 4 lotteries and bought 8 while I won ****. How is that fair? Think I'll just buy Hot Wheels exclusives, they are more fair(lol).......

yeah, it was a limit of 2 per lottery win.

It's possible they have more than one login name, or they got others to order for them!

Be patient.........I think that the majority of entries were chosen, and not all of them will buy the limit of two. The remaining figures will be offered through the store. I think after these things are delivered en masse there'll be a lot for sale at cost plus shipping.

You should have gone on the Varitek thread and asked someone who's only ordering one for help.

I agree, at least in my case there will be at least two in surplus since /i was one of the winners of the lottery but will decline purchasing this exclusive :)

Great gripe... coming from someone with 13 posts and less than a month on the board... Is the Varitek exclusive the reason you joined the board in the first place?

You haven't been around long enough to know the alternative to the lottery. It appears to have worked well if you ask me and I'm a person who didn't win. Of course some people are going to register multiple names or have friends register. Some people do this for a living. That's life though. It sucks, deal with it.

Seems like a ton of people got picked.....Many will only buy one and some will either forget to order, our won't bother because of how many people got picked....I wouldn't be surprised to see the left over's sit in the spawn store for months..........It's nothing new to see people overbid stuff when it first comes out....

The limit was 2 per household so any dealer you got more than 2, must have used multiple addresses along with the multiple IDs. Also, could have had employees order, etc etc. No way for Mcf to police all the ways people can beat the system.

Just goes to show how plentiful they were produced. People banking on these will be losing money...........

Don't go to ebay for at least a month, calm the inner beast inside that says, Everyone is getting one, I'll never get one. This will end up beingabout $20 or even less.
and shipping costs, don't be too critical, they are very close to actual costs of packaging costs, labour costs and the shipping they have to pay to get it to you.

Don't assume that people are cheating the system. I can think of many legit ways people are obtaining and selling multiples. 2 per household. Heck with just my sister in-laws I could have gotten 4 possibilities (8 figures) A dealer could be buying them from customers. It's pretty simple, advertise you will pay $30-40 per figure, and sell them for $50. Dealers often buy exclusives (at shows) in this manner.
When there's a will there's a way.
The only solution where scalping will be limited is for production to equal demand. I wonder if preording exclusives (but might have to be 3 months or so prior to release) would fly with the collectors?

bummer - I was mentioning on another thread, there is a thread of guys who didn't get the email. They were posting their names there in hopes that guys who got the email and only wanted one would buddy up with them. You might search for that email and see if you can hook up for one that way.

nah its ok, like i said, it kind of helps me with my decision. i've been thinking about getting out of collecting, and not having to pay and arm and a leg for my fav active player kind of tips me over the edge.

Is it possible that this ebay dealer registered and won and gave out the password to friends, etc for them to buy? I've had 2 PM's offering the password for money. I don't want to be a rat but I know its not right. I myself had to buy off someone here. Lucky someone was offering.

Even if they had the password, you need to have a winning email addy for it to be used.

That's good! People selling a password for $20 that won't work. Good thing I didn't go for it.

I thought the lottery idea worked ok, but I still think TMP could track the scalpers somehow. As soon as the winning emails went out, there were auctions on the BAY. I'm sure that those addresses or payment instructions on the BAY would match up somehow to the winning scren names and /or payment methods that were used by lottery winners. Those scalpers would be wetting themselves a little if TMP cancelled their order AFTER they had started getting bids on the piece.

These are collectibles that are made to be bought and sold, and escalate in value. How can you cancel someone's order just because they choose to sell on eBay? Once a person receives them, they should be able to do whatever the want with them.

TMP doesn't care if they sell to non-scalpers or scalpers. Their main concern is selling all of the Veritek inventory they have on hand. Do you really think they're going to turn down a potential sale when they're not even sure if they're a scalper?

I find this extremely hillarious to see people saying they won something! LOL!! What did you win exactly? You won the right to purchase product from TMP! Wow! Congratulations. ;) Seems to me Todd is the only winner here, but hey, keep on believing! LOL!!! I figured it out, and to have two sent to Toronto with cost, shipping, customs fees, and the exchange rate all into consideration, it works out to about $40 Canadian each. Wow! Am I ever glad I won the lottery!
