Hockeyfan can speak about how things were at the Ricoh last year during training camp.. its not bad, but its not excellent either.

Assuming this is in fact where camp will run this year and that things haven't changed from years past, your best bet is to pay the 10.00 and park in the underground area that will put you right beside the arena as this is where the players park at.

Some guys will have security push them along and through so they dont have to sign some or any autographs.. IF you wait outside the entrance doors only you will miss out on quite a few players who use the empty convention centre area to go to/from the parking lot area (you cant get into this area)

Its a good day and most players will sign if you dont push the quantity .. even better on days when camp is open to the public so you have something to do inbetween the players of the different sessions coming and going..

Lakeshore is home to their informal skating and practices during the season for the Leafs and/or visiting clubs. Ricoh has been home to the actual 'training camp' as they've been open the public and its a smaller building/easier to deal with the crowds. Ricoh will occassionally be used for practices during the season as well, but is usually the last of the 3 options.

Starting Friday, when they are not on the road for pre-season games or on game days at home for the pre-season, I would bet dollars to donuts they will be at the Ricoh for camp. First group hits the ice sometime around 9 and the second hits the ice around 10-1030.. most players are at the arena by 930ish *unless group1, they can come as early as 730* and everyone is gone by 1-130..

From an article talking about Luke Schenn (however its spelt)

In order to earn a spot with the big club this year, the Kelowna Rockets star will have to shine in the final two games at this tournament, and at the Leafs' main training camp next weekend at Ricoh Coliseum.

Curtis Joseph recorded his first shut out of the year today. I went to Lakeshore arena to get his auto today and missed him. He used the east entrance and I spent most of my time at the west (Note, he drives a black Mercedes). I too scored some autos mostly on pucks, Toskala, Tlusky, Williams, Deveraux, and Steen (thanks to Nascarfan12) I also got Blake on his sp base. Looks like I'm off to the Ricoh sometime within the next couple of weeks. I just got a game used Toskala stick from my buddy who works at the ACC, it's the same stick which his upcoming sp has! Maybe I'll some of you guys at the Ricoh.

Hey Hockeyfan33!

IIRC from last year, only older players will sign, not current ones. So you might get Clark, Gilmour, and Nieuwendyk this year but that could change to include current roster players. I dont see why they couldnt do the signings on Sunday Marlies games.

Went to my final Jays game tonight, I only went to 6 or 7 games this year..just happens 3 of them were within a week. I gained a lot of respect for Joey Inglett. The guy came over and signed autos for about 15-20 minutes after he stretched, just finished signing a couple of minutes before game time. He did that last night as well. Greg Zaun also came over and signed autos for about 10 minutes before going to the bullpen to warm-up A.J. I also got autos from Alfredo Aceves (Yankees pitcher) and once again Phil Coke (Good looking call-up who still has a 0.00 era after a dozen or so innings...another first class guy. Signed anything and everything put in front of him. I'll post pics later.

went to the final jays game

scott richmond signed twice but i didn't need him
zaun actually told halladay to hold on, and then signed for a few minutes, but i didn't need him either

joe inglett signed for 10 minutes after stretching and he signed a photo for me
travis snider signed for a few minutes but wouldn't touch my photo as he went down the base path for some reason, but finally before jolting signed it. i thought he'd be easier but i almost didn't get him.
and aj burnett came out with jesse litsch and signed for 15 minutes. i got aj on a photo

the rest of the jays didn't sign even though it was the final game of the season at home. kinda disgraceful

Your post from last year:

Just got back from the Davis and Henderson charity event. All the players were on the ice with the public for 2 hours prior to game time (Some in shoes, some in skates). They were signings graphs for everyone and taking photos. If you wanted you could of waited in front of the players change rooms.

I ended up getting Perreault and Marcel Dionne on my Hockey of the Fame photo. Also got a photo with Doug Gilmour and a auto on an 8x10 of Gilmour, I brought with me.

Cournoyer and Bower signed for an hour or so prior to the game, only were allowed one autograph each. I brought a 16x20 of the Stanley cup to have them both sign. Not bad for a free event.

No official pre game, just a bunch of players skating around the ice, signing graphs and talking to people.

Post game, usually the coaches sign. They will likely have Bower sign afterwards.

Guys, we just picked up something pretty amazing -- I'll let the summary fill you in:

Robert Thomas was a cameraman for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for more than 20 years. During the hockey season, he was a mainstay behind the lens for "Hockey Night In Canada".
When Mr. Thomas wasn't bringing hockey to millions across Canada, however, he was busy with his hobby -- collecting hockey autographs. His unique access to players and coaches allowed to fill binder after binder with signed cards, photos, team-issue postcards and more.
The great care taken by Mr. Thomas in building his collection shows in its quality and its quantity. There are more than 10,000 autographs ranging from the late 1960s through the late 1980s -- from Toe Blake to Brett Hull, with just about everyone in between.
The IceBox is proud to have acquired this collection and to give our customers both a chance to see these amazing pieces and purchase some of them. All autographs will come with our business card LOA with information about the origins of the piece. Full-page LOA letters are also available for a fee to cover the extra shipping costs.

This is some pretty stunning stuff -- more than 7,000 signed cards, 2,500+ signed team-issue, postcards and other oddballs, 600-700 signed 8x10s and plenty of other goodies. We'll be digging through it for some time, but we'll be adding some of the key pieces to our eBay and own web sites in the next week or two. We'll also have all of it at the Fall Expo.

Here are a couple examples:

The Armstrong Tall Boy is already gone -- one of four in the collection. In addition, there are seven Drydens (including the first 8x10 I've ever had), 15-20 Yzermans, the same number of Lemieuxs, six or seven Bobby Orrs -- I'm not even done being close to counting and cataloging.

Feel free to drop me a line if there are specific players you're looking for, especially guys who are tough to find. There are multiple near sets for every year in the 80s and plenty for the 70s. It will take me at least a week or two to go through everything, though, so be patient.

Thanks!

Well boys, I thought I'd share the story of what happened yesterday to me.....a friend of mine told me Ken Dryden was having his BBQ in support of him running for office in his North York riding on Saturday and that he was having a debate at a banquet hall by Chesswood and Sheppard on Monday. Took a chance, and as we were pulling into the banquet hall, who was walking outside with no one around...KEN DRYDEN....we stopped the car and quickly grabbed a few autographs....we nearly ran him over but in the end he was really nice and of course personalized the autographs we obtained!! Never thought I'd get close to getting his autograph, but it was a lucky day and perfect timing.

Here's my Ken Dryden story.

A few years ago, during the last election, Ken Dryden made a stop at our local MP's office. The trip wasn't publicized very well, and there weren't many people at the office that night for what was the grand opening. Luckily, I got wind of it through a person with connections in the business community. So I went down to the campaign office. I took with me two items (I didn't want to appear too greedy). Firstly, a copy of Lions in Winter that is signed by close to 50 Habs and a poster I have signed by about 10 Habs Hall of Famers.

Not knowing what to expect (based on reputation and stories) I stood there for two hours until Mr. Dryden finally arrived. Then sitting there wearing Liberal campaign buttons I sat through a speech from our local MP and then Mr. Dryden. After the conclusion of the speeches, I noticed some approach Mr. Dryden and have him sign some mini-sticks. I then made my move.

I presented the book first with a blue sharpie. As I requested he signed perfectly at the top of the page (right above Lafleur) and commented on me having Bert Olmstead's signature a few below his. He was very accomodating, feeling enboldened I unfurled the poster and a silver sharpie. At this point his congeniality seemed to end and the happiness drained from his face. He quickly signed the poster and then turned away. Setting the poster down I noticed that the silver in the marker had faded about halfway through the signature.

With a bigger crowd gathering I didn't think it would go over too well, if I waded in and tested my luck. Of course, knowing his reputation I didn't figure that I would be successful. Besides I had two Ken Dryden signatures on Habs team items, neither of which was personalized, so who can complain.

I can see Ken Dryden spending his nights scouring ebay auctions looking for people trying to sell their personalized signatures of him. You would think as an MP he'd have a little bit of work to do.

Stemkowksi was at Aj's 2 year ago or so, and I think at the 67 leaf show. I think it would be at least a year or more before he is around again. Forget about Keon, only possibility is AJ's but I heard that fell through. People been trying to get him for the last 5 -7 years with no luck. The Hockey Hall Of Fame will not have a current team signing (the Canadiens) this year, boo! Instead they will have Canadiens legends do the free signing. Only 2 names announced:

http://www.legendsofhockey.net/html/ind08cele.htm#Fri

Up to 4 names now

"Your opportunity to meet and receive free* autographs from Honoured Members Yvan Cournoyer, Frank Mahovlich, Larry Robinson and Serge Savard who combined won a total of 26 Stanley Cup championships as members of the Montréal Canadiens."

With how many are in town that weekend, there should be way more then that there.

From the Edm. Sun....

EDMONTON - Hockey fans at a sports collectibles show say they
were stunned to learn that autographs at a table featuring Sam
Gagner and Andrew Cogliano of the Edmonton Oilers cost $25.
"I actually had a buddy that came here and he actually left
because he had to pay $25 to get just an autograph," said Oilers fan
Byron Hall, who attended the show at the Polish Veterans' Hall in
Edmonton on Sunday.
"It's kind of bad ... they could do it for free."
It wasn't clear where the money was going, but the Edmonton Sun
reported that several people working the event who didn't want to be
identified confirmed that it wasn't for charity.
The show was put on by Bossa Shows, and AJ Sportsworld was in
charge of the signing.
Cogliano said the signing was part of his contract with AJ
Sportsworld, but declined to comment further after being told not to
talk to media.

Also found this in the Edmonton sun

He was one of many fans who paid the $6 to get into the Edmonton sports collectibles show, where Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano sat at a table and signed their names for $25 a pop.

“It’s a touchy subject,” he added when asked how he felt about having to pay for the two young players’ autographs. “It’s kind of bad ... they could do it for free.”

Hall and Christie Frost had paid the price, but said it was not worth it “for the five seconds,” it took the players.

“You pay enough for the damn tickets,” Frost said.

It’s not clear where the money was going, but several people working the event – who didn’t want to be identified – confirmed that it wasn’t for charity.

The show was put on by Bossa Shows, and AJ Sportsworld was in charge of the signing.

Cogliano and Gagner were to sign between 1 and 2 p.m., but left moments after 1:45 p.m.

Both players’ base salaries are over US$800,000 per year.

The people who complain to the media where probably not "autograph collectors" but regular fans. To me this isnt real news that needs to be printed. The price was advertised all over the place, if you dont like it, dont pay.

this type of publicity is bad for autograph collectors it leads to less players wanting to do public appearances. Its the reason why Lindros wont do any paid public signings anymore based on the heat he took for a show in the early 90's in TO (the price at the time was $3). Beliveau refused to do shows after this were you had to pay for his autograph so to get around it they charged an admission fee for the show were you got a free autograph(and could buy as many admissions as needed) . Beliveau of course changed his stance on this but this went on for a few years

Channel Sports also has a big autograph show on November 8 but no info on where or when. Consider its only 2 weeks or so away, I dont see it happening. People need to learn that Channel Sports signings are REALLY hit or miss.

Their signings are like asking a hot girl at a bar out. She will either say no or give you her number and when you get home and call it, figure out its a fake

The show is for members of Channel sports only, and tickets can only be purchased on the auction site. They have the date and times on the website.

On October 24th join Jamal Mayers in Bolton, Ontario and help fight Neuroblastoma which is a rare form of cancer that strikes children. The Aidan’s Quest Fund Dinner/Dance Gala promises to be a great night to raise money for this cause.

Both Serge Savard and Bobby Clarke did public signings at the Expo last year. Savard last fall, Clarke last spring. Cournoyer did three signings in Toronto last year, and the fall Expo before that. Robinson's last public signing in the area was with Frozen Pond two years ago.

I'm sure all of these guy's will be back on the circuit in the next little while, but there are other players in more demand, right now at least.

JaysFan99
10-24-2008, 03:38 PM
Outside of the older players in their 70's80's,. you should probably get everyone you need in the next two - three years, through all the big promotions, and the odd free event.

Look out for the old timers challenge, they sometimes have a team signing after those events.

I am sure AJ's is already trying their best, they were working with Channel , but it has been taken off the website. I heard he turned down over $50,000 for the 67 leafs show 2 years ago.

Got one too, same with a few friends of mine. Been working on mine for about 4 years. It will take a few years to get yours close to complete. No, Brian Glennie has not been around in at least 5 years or more. Go to signings hotline.com, and click past events, this will answer all your questions. I heard Brian Glennie is hard to get a hold of and has lost interest in doing signigs. Some places are working on it, I woulnd;t be surprised if he came around in the next year.

Is anyone planning to attend the signing @ Channel Sports on Nov8 with the group of HOF'ers?

http://channelsports.ca/Upcoming%20Events/UpcomingEvents.htm

Looks like you have to pre-purchase tickets via their website to get access to this event, even though they claim it's a public signing. Could they make it any more difficult? I'll stick with AJ's and Frozen Fond. If anyone does go, can you let us know who it turns out. I'd like to get a Kessel & Lucic auto later on.

Channel Sports is REALLY making it difficult. There is something fishy going on though considering each pair of players is only signing for half an hour and the only way to get tickets is on their website. Please correct me if im wrong but isn't the point of having an autograph signing to make money? How can you make money if you are completely limiting the number of people and tickets sold and the amount of time each player is signing?

Scottsy_5
10-27-2008, 12:24 PM

i have FIRST hand knowledge that it is Channel who gave away almost 100 free Getzlaf autographs to AJ's for the cancelled signing to be given away to the customers who showed up.

The monthly charge seems a bit fishy. The signings are legit, I have been to a few. I wonder if this monthly charge can easily be cancelled?

thats because ajs has OPEN SIGNINGS and they dont pull this kind of horse ****! Ajs is by far the best in the autograph business because they advertise early put up the price in advance and allow people to be able to buy tickets there on site. I have nothing but respect for ajs becuase every time i have gone there i have bought my ticket gotten in line and recieved my auto! Seriously, selling tickets exclusively off their auction site is just stupid in less they're trying to cheat people.

as a MEMBER of the CSI site, I appreciate the opportunity to meet some of my hockey heros, and at reduced rate no less compared to the prices of the other places who do signings.I have been to AJ's too, and they are great to work with. Just cause you clearly have your favorites, doesnt give you the right to speak the way you are. You dont like CSI, or their website, rules etc, then simply dont use them. but your attack and choice of language borders on slander.

In fact, your suggestion that its a scam because the guests are only signing for 30 mins is laughable, your heros at AJ's have promoted short signings as well, in fact I missed out on one of their signings, cus I showed up 5 mins late for a signing that was only 30 mins long.

sorry for the long rant boardies, but this guy and his daily posts in multiple categories and now attacks on one of my favorite sellers,if not the favorite seller of mine just made me have to speak up.

One final note Scottsy, I read that you called CSI stupid for doing this dinner "thingy".

R U 4 REAL?

To get Mr.Keon to take part in ANY type event is impressive, but I guess in your world it's just a "stupid thingy"

Toronto Boy, if you purchase from Channel Sports on a weekly basis, maybe you can provide some insight.

Has Channel Sports become more organized? As some of us have experienced delays with shipping?

Why do their pucks all look so horrible on the website?

Why is there this hidden monthly fee?

What's the deal wiht the handling charge?

How come they are no longer on Ebay?

Will they have someone sitting with the autographs guests to change sharpies, when they are flat and bleeding? More then a few of us had bad graphs because of this?

What is Channel Sports doing lately to provide more of a postive memorable customer experience?

Is Bobby Hull exclusive from Channel now?

How exactly does their operation work?

Thanks

whoa!

the spotlight is on me now! BUT I do my best to answer what I can.

"Organization" NOT really, they seem a little disorganized to me, but I am a patient man, as long as I get what I paid for , I am happy for the most part.

"horrible" looking pucks. Most of their stuff looks good to me

"hidden fee" - not so hidden, its right in their policy page

"handling charge" that does suck, but classic auctions and others charge far more, in fact classic is now up to 17.5%, thats a lot worse then 7.5%

"ebay" no idea, never dealt with them on ebay.didnt know they were on ebay

"bad sharpies" no idea, you would think they would know better

"customer service" again, I have not had any horror stories to speak of, when I have had an issue ie. damaged item, the refunded me in full, I have been to signings at almost every local spot FP, AJ's FW and no one has really provided me with "memorable customer service" in fact if anyone has it would be FW, and not for a good reason.

"bobby hull" their website says he is.

"operation" ???? i buy-they ship...dont have much more insight then that.

I will simply say that Channel has always treated me fairly and honestly. Does that mean when others say negative stuff they are wrong, abo****ely not. I am just sharing MY experiences and insight. Perhaps they do suck and I am just lucky? perhaps...until I have proven wrong I will keep working with them.

Rest assure IF I am proven wrong,, I will be the first to share on this board.

I also feel the 'street signed' items speak to how serious they take putting a 'foil' on something to authenticate it.

OK, this is pretty wild.

What have I started?

In response to your post below I am not associated or affiliated with CSI other then the purchases I have made with them or signings I have attended.

I have attended nearly 10 signings at AJ's and even more at FP, does that make me associated with them anymore then that of a consumer level?

The reason I speak up is some of the points made are simply inaccurate in MY opinion.

Take yours right here, your comment regarding street signatures, PSA authenticates STREET SIGNATURES! are they crooked?

Your comment regarding player proof editions, I have purchased a WGA (WAYNE GRETZKY's company) canvas piece, ltd to 99, to then see the EXACT same piece in a PLAYERS PROOF LTD to 15. No different from the 99 edition, yet it is a "player proof"? is WGA crooked?

It seems to me like some of their practices are one in the same as others, yet when channel does its a scam or crooked.

Its just funny to me.

If you hate channel,or they did something wrong, by all means speak up, tell your story, but some of these points being made are just comical.

OR...maybe I'm wrong.

raptorfan2006

absolutely you're wrong. you are Channel. as i said, nobody who has ever dealt with CSI would say anything good about them.

An 'authentication service' is much different than a company (whether it be AJs/FP/etc) stamping their foil on it and attaching it to a coa that says the item is guaranteed to be authentic .. the authentication service, whether it be PSA or not, makes an educated guess after comparing it, researching, etc..

When did I say anyone was crooked for 'player proofing' something .. I think its ridiculous as a practice in its entirety, especially if they are then re-selling that same piece at another time with another ltd edition. Was the WGA piece you purchased the same as the one issued later? or was yours canvas and that one was not, etc etc..

Was the WGA piece you purchased the same as the one issued later? or was yours canvas and that one was not, etc etc..

the wga piece I bought was a cup canvas ltd to 99.

then I see the EXACT same piece now numbered a player proof out of 15 on NHL.com

EXACT same piece.

absolutely you're wrong. you are Channel. as i said, nobody who has ever dealt with CSI would say anything good about them.

I dare anyone to win an item in their auction for 10.00 and see how much you end up paying and how long you end up waiting. go ahead and come back and tell your story.

lol, your awesome.

I guess my collection just got ALOT bigger!

Everything people are saying about channel sounds right to my ears. I have heard at autograph signings at various places all the horror stories about channel. I predict 4 people at their nov 8th, super signing? Anyone else wanna guess?

how easily can this monthly fee be charged? Will Channel be scamming this until i get a stop payment?

every month channel sports charges the monthly fee directly to your credit card even if you haven't bought anything.

November 11th @ Dave & Buster's

Andy Bathgate has postponed his appearance. Marcel Pronovost is still on however, and a replacement for Bathgate is trying to be arranged. Keep posted for further details.

If you are not associated with CSI, tell me why do you stick up for them so much when nearly EVERYONE else on the board doesn't? You claim that they have treated you better and you have had better experiences with CSI then at Frozen Pond and AJ's (two of the industries leading autograph providers). EVERYONE else on his board has had the opposite. You claim their prices are good. EVERYONE else claims the opposite and that point has even been proved (see post about Robinson and Shutt and the addedd charges CSI dings people with). EVERYONE has complained about the monthly charge to be a member but yet, you are willing to pay it even though you yourself don't agree with it. I would guess that about 95% of your posts have been about CSI.

DO YOU SEE WHY WE ALL THINK YOU ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THEM, IF NOT ONE OF THE OWNER'S.

i have FIRST hand knowledge that it is Channel who gave away almost 100 free Getzlaf autographs to AJ's for the cancelled signing to be given away to the customers who showed up.

funny, everyone slams them, but they sure stepped up there yet I have seen AJ's get the credit, lol

AJ's has given away free autographs in the past when Roberto Luongo was a no show.

That sucks. Ask Glen to bring back Henri Richard

JaysFan99

That does suck about Bathgate, he always cancels. For local Maple leaf, he seems to not be around alot. 1 signing in the last 3 years or so? Geez.

I need some old rangers, Vic Hadfield, Harry Howell ( missed him 2 years ago). Both live in the area, but are not around as often as I would hope.

Did Toronto Boy invite Channel sports to the board yet? Channel needs to step up and clarify things for the Spawn community. Word of mouth is key in this business, that or channel is fine doing bulk orders for other stores, and they do not care about the general public with bad service, hidden fees, horrible pucks, and zero sharpie knowledge?

Channel has been a board member since 09-20-2006 http://board.spawn.com/forums/member.php?u=44953
and has been seen viewing this thread. He knows all about it already.

Howdy, fellas -- haven't been around in a while. Busy with the big autograph collection and 200+ Barrie Colts gameworn jerseys.

We're uncovering more and more stuff as we go through this -- tons of team-issue Canadiens and Leafs stuff, HHOF signed and unsigned cards, magazine photos, etc. Watch our eBay store (ID hit_the_icebox) for more of this stuff going up, and PM or email me directly for board member pricing.

Also, if I'm not mistaken in reference to the Robinson and Shutt signing with Channel, the $39 fee covered two signatures. Doesn't cover the other monthly fees, etc., but I believe that's accurate.

Oh, and happy belated birthday to our buddy Hersh, who's still just as pretty as he was at 19.
