"As it now stands, in a few weeks (mid-February) the members of the band (except for Adam) and their manager will be traveling to parts of Europe, England, Japan and Australia on a bit of a promo tour, meaning that they will be meeting with record company people and doing various interviews with the press in order to promote their new record and upcoming tours. Although any press releases are usually timed to coincide with the release of the record, there will undoubtedly be leaks, so those of you who scour the internet should be on the lookout around this time. As the others field questions and deal with promo issues abroad, Adam will remain in Los Angeles to direct the new Tool video."

Sounds good. Every CD released has been better than the last. The last on will be very tough to beat. Though TOOL has changed styles, Lateralus was amazing. I can't wait. I have grown tired of APC. Kinda like Diet Coke. It's not bad per se, but the original is just so much better.

Yesssss, my thoughts exactly. I love all of Tool's shiz, but theyve gotten exponentially better since their first release. A Perfect Circle has done almost the exact opposite. Less and less cool songs on each album, weird though, they got all these cool people (Jeordie, Maynard, etc..) but they play this kinda poopy soft stuff. Cant wait for new "harder" Tooooooooooooooolll. Paul Barker (ex-Ministry) and King Buzzo (Melvins) are going to produce some songs on the album as well, I definitely want to hear that cos I love Ministry, The Melvins, and all of their infinite side-projects.

Give some examples of better bands ? Their songs are perfect and their live shows are even better than their albums. I have seen them 4 times and each concert I saw was better than the last. Their are not many bands that make albums that every single song is worht listening too. Tool is one band that you can put their CD in your car and not take it out for a week,

TOOL PERFORMING AT COACHELLA FESTIVAL
Some of you may have heard that TOOL will be headlining the Coachella Festival the last weekend in April. This is now official. I'll have more information about this in the coming days.

TOOL RECORD MASTERED
Salma stopped dancing on January 29th. The next morning the members of the band flew to Portland, Maine to have the record mastered by Bob Ludwig. This was done on January 31, no doubt followed by a lobster dinner.

Theres also news on there about new merchandise, which would mean a new tour... There was also a news story a while back that emphasized that "good things happen in April", so it's definately going to be an April release...

I listened to your so called Symphony suX. Wow playing really fast, lame vocals, lame song themes. The 80s were 20 years ago move on already. Hell Inflames marches over them no question. Anyway on to Tool. Tool will go down with the rest of the greats like Pink Floyd, Zepplin, King Crimson, and Zappa. Symphony suX, well they'll go down with Limp Bizkit. POD, and SuckKnot.

listening to Tool is like listening to some melodic conversation. everything works together. this isn't unprecedented by any means, but in contemporary music, it's rare. I'm a major Tool fanboy, but I haven't found anybody that has affected me as much as they have. (even to go as far as saying most art in general hasn't affected me like Tool has)

You can't help but respect/admire/aspire to the depth and care they take in their art. it's so revitalizing to the spirit whether your grief stricken, miserable, content but listless, or just, whatever.

"Swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human" <----simple, but when it flows in between guitar/bass/and drums it's so motivational and inspiring...just friggin' bliss.

Trev <---anxiously awaiting new lobal adventures

Although there are lots of release dates being bandied about, NONE are official as of this posting. However, in all likelihood, the CD will be released sometime in MAY, and hopefully earlier in that month as opposed to later. "Rumors continue to fly around about album release dates, and now rumors are out about the title of the new album. A Seattle radio station this morning announced the title would be "Elephtheria", to which Maynard's response was "nice try." Even more amusing were the song titles they announced (these bogus names are here only so you can laugh and ask yourself if these sound more like Tool titles or Limp Bizkit titles) -- "Greed Lies", "Psychiatrical", "Karma", and "Feminist Souls." Yikes. The new album title will be publicly announced first on the Tool Army site, and will probably spread like wildfire from there..."

duffman

There is something delightfully Toolian about staging a series of European album
press/radio playback and ‘meet-the-new-Record-Company’ dates whilst not only not
revealing the name of said new album but also keeping all the track titles
themselves firmly under wraps.

For your roving Tool reporter, this presents two particular difficulties –
firstly it makes accurate reviewing a task almost as hazardous as Quail shooting
whilst under the influence (perish the thought that anyone could even
contemplate such foolishness) and secondly it prompts momentary, and forgivable,
cynicism along the lines of ‘They’re ‘avin’ a larff! This is just an elaborate,
fake decoy album!’. Oh ****, there I go with those hunting expressions again.

Today (and I use the word entirely accurately - as my Tool obsession squirts
into me such blind courage as to prompt me to lurk, contrary to Record Company
wishes, in the shadows for 90 minutes - so as to catch both the 4pm and 7.30pm
playbacks) - today, the Record Company has displayed a remarkable degree of
Tool-savvy by booking an unheard of pub-for-bohemians in West London’s debatably
fashionable and trendy (or downright dangerous – unless, like me, you have at
least two layers of hoodies on top of your baseball hat) W10 area. 10, Golbourne
Road is at the foot of one of London’s once most notorious and scary tower
blocks – Erno Goldfinger’s (not to mention The Clash’s) Trellick Tower – now
perversely, and miraculously, transmogrified into one of the City’s most
desirable residences. It sez ‘ere.

It’s a joy – in this day and age and with such a multi-million selling global
mega-band (yes, it really is true, fans!) – to immediately bump into ¾ of the
band casually swigging beer from bottles (or, somewhat surprisingly, Starbucks
from a paper cup in Maynard’s case) and chatting amiably with the assembled
mid-afternoon gathering of hacks. It’s always a joy to meet a man so much ‘his
own man’ and Maynard, as usual, manages to take such an expression to dizzy new
heights. As inscrutable as the bastard offspring of Chairman Mao and Wallace &
Gromit’s Were Rabbit (slightly caught in the headlights of my immediate and
presumptuous ‘hail fellow well met’ self-introduction) Maynard professes to
‘feeling a little jet-lagged’ and at once hops off to safer environs. Meanwhile
big haired Danny and Justin look, for all the world, like a brace of *******
hippies from the Bong Shop down the road. As has been revealed – Adam has
remained in LA ‘directing the video’.

After a 30 minute delay in proceedings – caused by a tardy and self-important
bunch of hacks creeping out of some rank corner of the evil EMAP Empire (they’re
all Borgs, we suspect) the Anonymous Playback of The Nameless Songs commences…
‘probably nearly in their Final Running Order’, we are told. Readers will,
hopefully, forgive any inaccuracies in reportage. On first listen I surmised
this was an 9 track album, managing to squeeze this figure up to 10 on second
hearing, whilst having confirmation from the band that it was, in fact an 11
track album. (They thought).

Queens Of The Stone Age, The Melvins, Turbonegro, Satyricon, Weezer and Hole.
Hmmm... Joe Baresi’s CV might not be an immediate one to catch the attention
whilst puzzling over a new Producer for a band such as our heroes. But then,
Tool never have been noted for the obvious, the easier, softer way. The band
dynamic IS different on this work. But it’s a challenging difference – perhaps
no great surprise for a band which often borders on the recalcitrant. As might
have been expected from a ‘guitar-oriented’ knob twiddler– the guitars are very
much to the fore. Perhaps more so than on any work since Opiate. And there are
other notables – but more of those later. What we have here with The Album With
No Name (rather a good title, boys… why not go for it? Surely it’s not too
late?) is yet another milestone in the journey of one of the most innovative of
rock bands of the last 30 years. It’s a Rollercoaster. It’s difficult (‘Hurrah!’
I hear you yell!). It’s at points dense, frustrating and impenetrable
(‘Wahaay!’). On occasion it provides the band’s most commercial work to date. At
worst, it heavily borrows hooks and snippets from, mainly, the Lateralus album.
At best, it’s soaring and stunning and staggering – an exercise in aural, no
sensory, exploration. In short, it’s the new Tool album and it’s f@!# great…

Track 1 (7min 3sec). Mesmeric start. Hypnotic beat. Jagged, angular off beats.
Familiar trancey passages punctuated by a guitar part reminiscent of an older
Tool track. Tribal drum beats f@!# with a lovely melody and climax with
Maynard’s vocals. I am going to cry.

Track 2 (7min 12sec) Melodic intro with almost balladic vocals from Maynard.
Lighter feel (almost, dare I say it, APC-tinged) but not for long. Danny gets
stronger – Baresi releases our tubthumper and the feel gets much heavier into
‘chugga chugga’ off beats. Then – here’s some unusual guitar work. Man, it’s
almost Hendix-like! Then back into a heavy tribal groove. I fight off the urge
to masturbate furiously.

Track 3/4 (This is either one 17 minute monster or two tracks – of 6min 20sec
and 10min 26sec – only the Gods Of The Stinfist know the answer). Whichever it
is – DO NOT SMOKE THE WEED WHILST LISTENING TO IT! Starting with Buddhist
temple-flavoured gong tweaking the collective nipples of Kraftwerk, a deep
sphincter-rumbling bass and om chanting might recall ‘Parabol’. After 3 minutes
of this nerve-wracking niceness, all Hell breaks loose with mega-heavy riffdom
before slipping back into spaciness after 30 seconds. Like an epileptic
convulsion in a night of deep sleep. Hawkwind does Greensleeves whilst Pink
Floys look on. The Record Company people are starting to look nervous and
uncomfortable as if they have seldom HEARD anything so strange and worrying.
What the f@!# is this? Let me outta here! I need to go snuggle the Radio One
Playlist! Suddenly it’s a crazed sea shanty for whacked-out space travelers.
‘You’re the only one who can hold your head up high. It’s my time now… my time
now… give me my… give me my…’ duets Maynard with himself. Danny fights free of
the evil clutches of Dr Baresi and goes off on one. Adam’s guitar recalls
something off Lateralus again. It’s Triad, I think, but it’s almost impossible
to identify one riff whilst another song goes on. The musical equivalent of
rubbing one’s head and tummy simultaneously in different directions. They’re
doing this on purpose to f@!# with our heads. Bastards! Returns to full-on
rhythmic Toolishness to end. No it isn’t the end. It doesn’t end like any other
song ends. Tool never ends. I’m losing it. Therap me now, please.

Track 5 (Probably. 6min 11 sec definitely). Oooooooh. This is THE one. Ya know
what, pluggers? Radio might even go for this! Maynard’s vocals at the start are
quite extraordinary. Place equal parts of Chris De Burgh, Tiny Tim and Bilal The
Muezzin in a blender and run for your life. Easily the most commercial track to
date. In fact, easily the most commercial track Tool have EVER done. That guitar
is waaay strong again. Did Adam bribe Baresi? This is still twisted. It’s hard
but commercial. The end spells a relief as climactic as a boil bursting. I go
‘Yessssss’ and the whole room of cool jouros looks round at me as if I’m a
Bateman cartoon ‘The Man Who Ordered A Pork Sandwich In Blooms’. This is a
SERIOUSLY awesome track. Just you mark my words.

Track 6 (1min). In which Maynard becomes a Native American for no good reason.
Strange, but we like a bit of strangeness.

Track 7 (Maybe. Could be two medium length tracks and a terribly short one, too.
I’m now losing the will to live with the stopwatch. It’s 14min 45sec of music,
whatever). Guitars to the fore again. One long note with almost blues-like,
overlaid note progressions. f@!# me, it’s House Of The Rising Sun cut with
Ketamine. There are unsettling whispers and talking. Is this a bad trip or a
psychiatry session? Come to think of it, is there a difference? ‘How Are You
Today?’… ‘Tell Me Everything’ then THWACK! Into such a breathtakingly slappy,
powerful riff kick that I’m actually physically winded for a nanosecond.
Demonic, growling, rap noise over rhythmic heavy heavy groove. Forget the Were
Rabbit jibe. This is a f@!# full-on, nasty, shaven headed WEREWOLF. A lightbulb
goes mental in the room. The Record Company almost lose all cool and run for it.
I damn nearly join them but now I AM crying. I am gulping back wracking sobs at
the sheer Toolishness of this monstrous, magnificent track. This is the real
deal. Again snippets from Lateralus. You ARE playing with us. You ARE! This is
Tool’s equivalent of ‘spot the Hitch**** in the Hitch**** film’! But I don’t
care. It’s like The Best Of Tool in one song. The Bomb. It ends like the violent
end of a violent life. And then it ends again. Unless that’s another track, of
course….

Track 8 (6min 44sec). Odd noises. Sea shore meets ironworks. Ever see the
cartoon meisterwerk ‘Spirited Away’? You MUST! In it there is a character called
Kamajii The Boiler Keeper who has 6 arms and an army of small black coals. This
sound is similar. Soon joined by elastic bass and drum twangling over
multi-layered Maynard whisperings and chanted vox. Shades of Pink Floyd again.
Shades of the more ‘moody’ Lateralus tracks again. Reflection. Disposition.
Tribal and hypnotic.

Track 9 (9min 04sec. I think). Melodic, slow, hypnotic. Almost balladic. Wall of
Sound build-up. Danny does some Bamboo pole-type drumming into big rif***e. Big,
big sound. Tool at their weightiest. It’s almost Chinese at the end. I can think
of worse things to be like. Perhaps the boys have their eyes on the World’s
fastest developing market?

Track 10 (OK it’s 11 but I’m f@!# if I can work out how we got here). The walk
out track (their description not mine). Oddness. The Noodles of Satan.

And that’s it. First playback and Maynard bids us farewell. ‘Hope you enjoyed
it. If you didn’t we could put on a little Green Day for you?’. Second playback
and Justin apologises for not being The Arctic Monkeys. We smoodge and chatter.
We remember that Danny is actually the World’s nicest (and tallest) man. If only
I could feel as comfy in my skin as he does. That’s it – go on, compare my
insides with his outsides. We rejoice in the fact that ¼ of Tool is, in fact,
English. We clamber onto our pushbike past legions of hoodies whilst the Tool
Carnival ups and offs to Amsterdam. f@!# knows where THAT playback will take
place but I have a shrewd idea or two… -Andy King

Excellent news!.......TOOL is the only band that every CD they made and even the Rage against the machine thing Maynard did was good, even more so.

I would'nt say Lateralus is better than the previous but I like them all individually. Its the only time I WILL spend hard earned cash on a CD that I know nothing "that dwells within" instead of getting it off the internet for free.

The title of the new Tool album is "10,000 Days" and will be released on May 2, 2006. The first single (still unannounced) will hit radio April 17 (MJK's B-Day).

This was posted on the official website earlier today then removed shortly after. I'm sure it's a lie but the May date seems to be the release date.

From Tool Shed

Well so much for all the conspiracy theories. A reliable source confirms that the title is "10,000 Days." There it is! (Those of you complaining that it "doesn't sound like a Tool title" might want to refer back to other mathematically-themed names such as "Forty-Six & 2", "4 Degrees", "Parabola", etc.) It is sounding more and more like the album will be out at the start of May.

From Billboard.com:

Rock act Tool will break a five-year silence on May 2 with its next Volcano album, "10,000 Days." No other details have yet been revealed about the project, which is the follow-up to 2001's "Lateralus." That set debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 2.3 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As previously reported, Tool will play its first U.S. show since late 2002 when it headlines the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on April 30 in Indio, Calif. No other U.S. dates have been confirmed.

I'm not buyin' the title yet, but that does seem to be Tool's new logo (I like the font they used for the Lateralus era the best, but oh well), and since multiple sources have multiple cover arts, I'm not sure what to believe on that. Though considering how each album gets a more elaborate cover, I wouldn't doubt multiple covers for this one.

Rock act Tool has revealed the track list for its next studio album, "10,000 Days." As previously reported, the set is due May 2 via Volcano. Billboard.com has learned that first single/album opener "Vicarious," which stretches past the seven-minute mark, is due to arrive April 17 at U.S. rock radio outlets.

True to form, the 11-track "10,000 Days" sports a number of epic tunes, particularly "Rosetta Stoned" and "10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2)," both of which clock in at 11:14. Near the end of the disc are the substantially lengthy "Intension" (7:21) and "Right in Two" (8:56).

With "Vicarious" just days from airing on the radio, some folks would have expected it to leak by now. Why hasn't it? It turns out that most radio stations will be downloading a digital file from a secure webserver (no, we're not telling you which one) and may receive a physical CD at a later date. Other info indicates that, instead of mailing out promo copies of the album, Tool is flying journalists to LA to review it under their supervision.

Perhaps we may be able to stream the single from the official site come next week, one can hope eh?

Ok, this is TOOL we're talking about. Not some average band. Even it's as simple as a few different lyrics, or a slightly different tempo...or even a few noticeable notes here and there, I wouldn't put it beyond them to have multiple versions on hand to aid their love of throwing the fans off the trail.

However, I believe 98% now that this is the final...and real...version of the song. But there is still that 2% that is ready for anything.

Lie lie lie lie lie lie lie

Credulous, divest your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men
Pull your head on out
Your head believes in--give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again
The universe is hostile, so impersonal
Devour to survive, so it is
So it's always been

Well I just heard Vicarious on the radio and I think it's a average song. Before you flame me you should know that Tool is my favorite band by far. Maynard never "opened up" during any part of the song and sounded like he had strep throat though the whole song and was hard to hear over the music. The music was the usual Tool stuff which is good, but I am dissappointed that it sounded a lot like Schism in some parts. There is no doubt that I will get the cd when it comes out, but I'm hoping that this isn't the best song on the cd. Overall I give it 5/10 for a Tool song and 8/10 for a overall song compared to todays overall radio crap.

Heard it a few times yesterday, it is an average TOOL song, but good nonetheless. It didn't really draw me in as most TOOL songs do when I hear them. But the more I listen to it the more I like it but still it doesn't draw me in. Still a good song from them. Plus for it to be the 1st track on the new CD is a bit mediocre I guess since I am comparing it to The Grudge on the lateralus album and that absolutely drew me in to the rest of the album. But I am very anxious to hear the 10,000 days album for sure!

Well, the album has leaked and I must say I will wait until 5/2 to listen to it. So far, word is the album surpasses Lateralus. Many of the songs use fx similiar to the vicarious single. If you can't wait for two weeks to listen to the soon to be best album of the year, hit up bit torrent.

10,000 Days has been leaked to the internet. According to AndrewB, the news is overwhelming ToolNavy, there's probably a little less clutter over at ETS at the moment. Don't forget to buy the album if you end up listening to your downloaded copy enough.

I think Rosetta Stoned is my fave track, but 10,000 Days has some of the coolest lyrics...

"10,000 days in the fire is long enough, you're going home. You're the only one who can hold your head up high, shake your fist at the Gates, saying, 'I have come home now, fetch me the Spirit, the Son, and the Father, tell them the pillar of faith has ascended.' It's time now, my time now, give me my, give me my wings!"

heard the entire album twice yesterday. love it. however, for 3 reasons, I am thinking that these could be possibly b-sides (aside from vicarious), and that we still have a lot to look forward to on may 2nd. 1) the rest of the album seems to not fit in with the song vicarious... vicarious just sounds totally different from everything else. 2) the album doesn't seem to flow as the last 2 tool albums have flowed and 3) there are ALOT of elements in these songs that are riffs/beats etc... from aenima and lateralus... leading me to think these are b-sides...

nevertheless, i really like it...

This is what I could get from the song, if anyone else knows the parts I couldnt get, let me know...I am in love this song.

Listen to the tales and romanticize
How we will follow the path of the hero
Boast about the day when the river was overrun
How we rise to the height of our halos

Listen to the tales as we all rationalize
Our way into the arms of the saviour
Failing all the trials and the tribulations
None of us have actually been there
Not like you

Ignorant fiddlers in the congregation
Gather round spewing sympathy
Spare me
Now (devuncinavy?) hold a candle up to you
Blinded by choices, hypocrites
Won’t see, but,
Nothing but the collective truths but who could deny
You were the one who illuminated
You led a piece of the divine
The little light of mine, a gift you passed on to me
I’m going to let it shine to guide you safely on your way

(You’re the only one?)

What are we going to do when the lights go down,
Without you to guide us to Zion?
What are they going to do when the river is overrun,
Other than tremble incessantly?
Eyes awake, but our lives are up on the ground
You were the light and the way they only read about
I only pray about (those might do?) if we let you out

Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough, you’re going home.
You’re the only one who can hold your head up high,
Shake your fist at the Gates, saying,

“I have come home now,
Fetch me the Spirit, the Son and the Father,
Tell them the pillar of faith has ascended.
It’s time now, my time now, give me my, give me my wings!”

You were the light, the way, that they will only read about.

Since I have opened my wings in my arrogance
(Burning a plume, tossing far my believers/)
You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence
Judith Marie, her conditional one

Take life in leaving
Cold flourescence
Difficult to see you in this light
Please forgive this bold suggestion
Should you see your (lingers?) face tonight
Look him in the eye, tell him,
I never lived a lie, never took a life
But surely saved one
Hallelujah, it’s time for you to bring me home.

they wanted to get off the Volcano label before releasing the live dvd. I can't remember why, but one assumes it's because of how the label would want it done..that's why there were the two nearly useless music vid dvds last year (well, the vids are GREAT, so it was worth it to some) instead of just releasing one dvd. This along with 10,000 days ends their contract with volcano

i'm dying for that live dvd....

I had a great experience buying it though. Went to Circuit City around 10 o'clock and first thing I saw was some guy going to a car with the CD in his hands. Then upon walking in the doors a guy walks out, I look at his CD, look at him and we smile and nod our heads at each other. They didn't even bother putting it on the shelf, they had the CD's in a big cart for everyone to pick up. Everyone at all the checkout counters had a copy of the CD in their hands. TOOL has such a diverse fan base it's incredible.

It was a great thing to see and be a part of.

This might be a bit premature with the year only being almost half gone but….I proclaim this album of the year.
