It has component ports that i have hooked my dvd player up through... my question is why cant i get the picture to come in when i hook the 360 up through the component cables? I have the switch on the component cable switched to HD...even though my CRT isnt HD but the component cables should work...

It's not a huge issue because im buying a lcd tv in about a month or so... maybe black friday

Try switching HD off on the component cables, I think that is how mine is setup, even though it uses the component cables.

Congrats LM,
We traded in our xbox for a 360 about 3 weeks ago on a whim. I haven't played much yet, my fiance's more of a gamer than I am. She's already beat down Dead Rising and she's playing the Godfather right now(rented) and Spinter Cell's neat(bought) I'm excited about the Wii and Zelda myself but I'm looking forward to Assassin's Creed for the 360.

Small story:when we got the 360 I was gonna buy Dead Rising for her, she likes beat 'em, smash them games alot so I figured she would enjoy this game. She said no and looked around. She couldn't find anything she liked so we decided we would rent a game so we jammed down to Hastings. All the 360 games were rented out (so we thought) so we went to Blockbuster and rented Condemned, which she didn't like. I took it back the next day and bought Dead Rising. When I got home and showed her, she kinda scrunched up her face. I told her I bought it for myself and I started to play, and soon as the first zombie scenes came up, she sat up and started watching. I don't want to ruin the beginning but after the first sequence she was getting all twitchy so I asked if she wanted to play. Sure enough she did, and she was hooked on the game. Now she's bustin' up mobsters in The Godfather.:)

Dead Rising is amazing... and the games look pretty damn good even on my CRT tv...i def need to get a HD soon... but the fightnight demo... gah damn even my gf was amazed who good that looked.

I got in later tonight, but at least I had a chance to stop by Circuit City and have them price match Worst Buy's price for Dead Rising. I got it for $37.99+ tax, total of around $40 out-the-door.

yea, I was that way when I played it. I was playing at midnite, and had to quit playing. palms sweaty.

I was really far in the game, having the flashbacks in the subway car. Then my mother came over, and I wanted to show her how freaky it was. so i just played the openning sequence, because of the junkies jumping out at you. well, it did the autosave, where your partner throws you the axe to chop the door down. I didnt feel like doing the whole game over again,so I never played it again

Condemned was the first game I bought for the 360 ... I sitll enjoy it. I am considering keeping it because it was the first game I bought. Very cool gameplay. Good story. Underrated if you ask me. I have like half the achievement points. Going to play through it again, so I can get the rest of the achievements.

What percentage actually purchased Live? What percent have downloaded a demo or game from the marketplace? Those statistics would actually tell us something useful.

Yes. Yes they do. They need an arcade controller for XBLA. A good old fashioned joystick. Because a ton of games suck with that controller. Pac Man being one of the worst. I'd by an XBLA controller if they made one.

And honestly, I don't think ANYONE has anything good to say about the D-Pad on the 360 controller. Seriously, I'll use a d-pad function in a game, and something entirely different than what I was intending will happen. To set it to hotkeys is a joke half the time.

It's still a pretty big number. OXM issue #63 has the membership number at 3 mil as of May 2006. That's a lot of people. And I still think it's a big obstacle the other two companies will have to overcome, considering the success of the service. XBLA surpassed projections in months what they thought was going to take a year and a half.

I think Nintendo and Sony will have to come up with some pretty good deals to woo people over to their online service, and I'm not talking about the die hards who'll probably sign up for all the services. A lot of Sony fanboys are chomping at the bit and IMO counting their chickens before they hatch with Sony's supposedly free service. Which with a lack of servers could honestly turn into individual companies charging on a per game or even per company basis (by that I mean EA charges PS users a flat fee to play any of their games over Sony's online service). True it's a possibility either way. But still I don't think a person is going to switch systems simply because an online service is free. At only 50 a year, it's not worth it to dump one console for a more expensive one, and possibly more expensive games.

Rumble Roses XX is not good. Not good at all. I should've listened to the reviews I read, but I rented it. They were right. Sloppy wrestling, sloppy controls, and just really not as sexy as advertised.

It's an RPG so they've gotta put in a ton of time with the game, wouldn't be suprised if the review is late from alot of places. Supposedly the game is about 25 or so hours long and they've gotta deal with the meat of that. See how the characters balance out with the difficulty, see how badass the final boss fight is, etc.

The only time you should really get scared about a game is if it's been like 4+ days and the game is on the shelves but the review is no where to be seen....or if it's like an 8 hour long game or a sports game that doesn't have a review up immediately. Anyone can give you a review of a sports game after about 8 hours of playing.

Marvel Alliance is bad ass..the game looks amazing in the HD...

Its pretty nifty to run around as Cap and toss your shield everywhere....The voice cast is very good....its a damn fun game.....the only thing I am not liking is the constant picking up health instead of storing it till you need it...that kinda sucks...

I've heard Dead Rising will cause your 360 to overheat... this could be the same issue as to why its freezing... Make sure that power cord is out in the open...

By the way... Dead Rising is by far one of the most entertaining games ive ever played... I cant wait to beat it so I can jsut wander around the mall with no time limit.

R6 demo isn't coming to the US.
So, you either have to create a silver xbox live account from the UK or JPN, or buy the OXM.

I bought the OXM. But it's easy to start a UK account. As the guys from Penny Arcade said, What a sudden boom in the population of Whales. HAHA.

Setting up a UK account

1. Goto www.hotmail,com (you may have to sign out of your current hotmail address) and click on 'sign up'
2. Choose your country as United Kingdom and enter a new hotmail address.
3. enter a password,a fake name and set your and enter the postal code as L18 2DA and the rest you should be able to do on your own.
4. Also make sure that your date of birth makes you over 18.
5. Turn on the Xbox and sign out if you have to and select 'join xbox live' and keep press continue etc till you get to gamertag.
6. Pick a new gamertag
7.When it asks if you have passport account then click yes and enter the hotmail address and password that you created earlier.
8. Select language as English(it's the only one you can choose0

I like using Blade, but that's simply because I love the character.

While not as good as some of the other melee characters, Blade has quite possibly one of the BEST Ultimate power moves in the game.

That's such a great game. It was hard for me to send it back in the mail too. Makes you realize just how revolutionary GTA was.

Saints Row wasn't anything revolutionary (Since it follows the same game concept as the Grand Theft Auto series), but it was fun as Hell. I was shocked when I rented it, because I figured that I'd find myself thinking "Boy, this game is a rip of a GTA". It actually does somethings better than the GTA series does (Aiming, especially).

If it's under warranty then they should ship a box to you, and it will cost you nothing. (Although I got a line saying they didn't do that anymore, but I believe that was cause mine was out of warranty.) Where did you buy it from?

As for the NOW factor ... can you really not live without it for a week or two?

Yeah, the spring one was pretty quick and a lot bigger with a lot more features...this one is mainly just setup features for the HDDVD drive and some Zune features it seems. I think it will only take a minute or less to download and apply.

If any of you enjoy reading the Video Game magazines I would recommend one called Edge. It's printed in Britain and I picked it up at Borders while looking for material to keep me busy while flying to Chicago this weekend.

It's an amazingly well-written magazine, including some great in-depth interviews with game developers, including one about Bioshock in this month's. It ain't cheap, but it's worth it once in a while.

I've read that anyone with a new system (six months you've had it or less) that the new update is causing them to crash....apparently MS is getting a lot of calls about it. I believe it is an E71 Error.....if you update now you are taking a chance of having to send your system in.

I seriously doubt you will ever see those uniforms. It doesn't take more than a month to program some simple uniform textures. I think EA saw the negative reaction to their microtransaction scheme and they changed their mind. We might even get these uniforms for free sometime after Christmas. If that happens, expect EA to try this alternate uniform scheme again when the next Madden comes out.

I've heard some negative things about Fear online. It's a great game, but they need a multiplayer patch. By two good friends got it last night and tried 'er out. Seems once you complete a match, you don't go back to a lobby, you go back to the main menu. So you have to set everything up again, and invite all your friends each time once the options are done.

BTW, I went ahead and updated the fixed Fall Update last night, since I saw it had gone live (No pun intended). It dl'd and worked ok for me for the time I played last night. I didn't exactly see all blades working smoother, but the XBL Arcade section is smooth as silk now. ;)

That was the main problem with the update. Part of the update was made to kill modded 360s and give them an E66 error. However, they somehow screwed up and managed to kill legitimate 360s in the process. If you have the newest mod with Firmguard, the updates can't break your 360 anyway.

You're misunderstanding what I was saying. It wasn't to ban people from Live because they don't have that capability yet. They can't determine who has a mod through Live yet. The update was set up to break modded systems and give them an E66 error. Anybody with a legit 360 that gets broken by the update, gets an E71 error. Modded systems get an E66 error. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the consensus so far.

As far as paying them $50 for Live goes, I think they would rather have the money they make from you buying legit games.

TRU is expecting it 11/9, obviously that's not set in stone. And once the game comes in and they have the okay to sell they will, specialty shops like EB will most likley have it the 7th, if customers ask they'll sell every copy they have available aside from pre-orders. I'm sure once you have the game you'll have no problem playing on-line, microsoft wants people to play this game, and tell their friends about it. The 12th is just a big promotional event, it's a sunday, it will be the only release, they're having a live tournament, etc...

I have it. It plays very much like the demo. It's very good. As far as straight gameplay, though, just talking about the smoothness and overall feel, I'd put COD2, Prey and Quake 4 ahead of it. The latter 2 of which were based off the Doom 3 engine, which I frickin love.

But it's definitely a great shooter.

When I returned Dead Rising to Circuit City tonight (I had it for 2 weeks, but never opened it---Thanks, work! :( ), I asked when they expected to have Gears of War in stock. No retail chain tends to have the game releases before an EB or Lamestop, unless it's a major release (Halo, GTA). I was told, after the girl checked the computer, that the game would be available on Wednesday, 11/8. I hope it's true, since I have a 15% coupon for either version from a PSM.

Well, I can officially say that F.E.A.R. online rocks. The penetrator is the greatest gun ever. You can actually nail people to the wall with it ( I know AVP did it first). After playing for a while, the floor and the wall will be covered in blood. The slow mo death match is great. Everybody's scrambling for the slow mo powerup since there's only one. The person with the slow mo has a red dot above their head that everybody can see no matter where they are so the slow mo is an advantage and a disadvantage. The only thing wrong with F.E.A.R. is that they boot you out to the main menu after every match. Who the hell thought that was a good idea? Too bad Gears of War comes out in a week or I could see myself playing this for a while. I still haven't touched the single player yet.

On a side note, I hate Capture the Flag. I can't name one game where I actually enjoyed capture the flag. Why not just play some regular team deathmatch? Maybe I just need better teammates.

Just to share a personal victory. I play a lot of racing online with a buddy of mine. Last night I finally beat him in MotoGP at Istanbul. He's very good, and I can usually never catch him. But practice makes perfect.

Finally getting used to racing in first person/c ockpit view in this game. And fiddled with setups and bike settings for a while. This is one of the best racing games I've ever played.
Great for getting into that Zen type state.

CTF is a ton of fun when you have teammates who play as a team. You can't approach it like regular DM. Well, you can - but it's not very fun that way. Glad you're enjoying it!

Yes!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Mine is at least a day behind now since 11/1/2006. It's pretty frustrating.
If you have sigs turned on and you look at my gamercard right now it shows NHL '07 as my last game played. I played that on Wednesday night (11/1) - last night I played Lumines and some demos so Lumines should be showing as my last game played but, basically, according to the xbox site, MGC, etc...I didn't play at all last night.

If Gears of War is half as good as it looks, you won't need to get F.E.A.R. Most people only go through the main story mode of a game once. After that, it's all about the multiplayer. Unless they patch F.E.A.R. so you can play with the same group for long periods of time, it's going to get old fast. Also, you can only play multiplayer on Xbox Live. There's no splitscreen option. If you can't buy both, get Gears and wait for F.E.A.R. to go on sale or drop in price.

The only thing is, I just called about the status, so that's where I learned the good news. But the guy I talked to ... either didn't know alot of English ... (no he actually didn't sounded Indian, sounded Hispanic) ... or was new. Because he sounded like a friggin robot. Hold on .... one to two minutes .... while I ... check ... on the ... status ... of your .... console.

So, I asked about this new update. I said, "I heard that the new Xbox update was screwing up some xbox's. And I said, when I get my console back, am I just going to end up sending it back in because of this new update. I have all the previous updates"

And this is the response I get ... "When you get your console back ... do not plug it in to xbox live .. wait for the update and then connect to xbox live." .. (mentally insert all the pauses like from the first example from him speaking.) ...

So my question is this. Can any of you understand that? .. Also, since I have all the previous updates I should be fine right? I've been on Live since I got my console. Unless there has been an update between the last one, and this new one sometime between Friday two weeks ago, and that new update that is messing up people's 360's .. then I should be ok right?

So my question is this. Can any of you understand that? .. Also, since I have all the previous updates I should be fine right? I've been on Live since I got my console. Unless there has been an update between the last one, and this new one sometime between Friday two weeks ago, and that new update that is messing up people's 360's .. then I should be ok right?

I did the update last night and it was fine. I think they fixed the glitch already.

Anyone else think some of the achievements for some games are a little much? (I know some of you don't like them. ... *cough* Chugga *cough* :p) .... But I was looking at that 360 Achievement website and there are some pretty stiff achievements in there. I'm not against them as a whole, because I understand those are really for the hardcore gamer. But sometimes I think they overboard it a little. There's some pretty stiff ones for fear. And I'm more thinking of the ones that require you to do this or that through the entire campaign. There's 8 achievements requiring you do something across the entire campaign. Gah! That's a bit much if you ask me. How many people are gonna actually pull some of those things off ... using no more than 500 rounds throughout the campaign ... using no slomo ... using no enhancements ... no dying ... cripes!

However, the website has the Gears Achievements all up. I figured they wouldn't be out until the game. But it seems a little more balanced to me.

by the way...dead rising is fing hard... the people I'm rescueing either die before I can get to them or they die on the way to the warehouse... I cant wait to beat this game so I dont have to worry about the time and just run around for an hr or 2 and kill zombies

I love dead rising but you're right about the survivors, they are dumber than a bag of oranges and it makes it really challenging, I like a good challeng though.

Finally got onto Live last night... man have I been missing out! My step son and I played a couple of my buddies in a custom Halo 2 map. As usual, I had my *** handed to me, but it sure was a blast.

I can't wait to get Gears of War now... and I'm VERY temped to get Marvel Alliance to change things up a bit.

I don't necessarily hate achievements.....well ok maybe I kinda do. I think they are brilliant in some form....when my friend comes at me and says "you haven't beaten Call of Duty 2 on veteran, thats impossible" I can point to my list and say "guess again". But overall as you've probably seen by my 3 page long rant I'm not particularly happy with the way they made them. Now you've got a whole generation of gamers thinking their point total has a direct connection to their knowledge of videogames. I've seen guys on the xbox boards say that their 15,000 gamerscore automatically makes them better then the guy with 2,000 points and the guy with 2,000 should shut up. Sad part is I've seen this a million times on those boards "oh why are you even talking with your 1,000 gamerscore".

And more importantly than anything else there is nothing else in the world that annoys me more (and believe me this happens ALOT) then a person completely ruling out playing a game or even debating on returning a game if the achievements are too difficult. Go to any videogame board and you see a topic saying "how hard are the achievements in this game???" and people will actually make a playing decision based off of that crap. On the Marvel Ultimate Alliance boards a guy was taking the game back because a code disabled his ability to get achievements. Someone is literally taking a game back because he can't get his precious virtual points that do nothing.

But anyways there I go ranting again....as far as the subject you bring up about tough achievements I actually like that idea. People who really want to master a game because it's their favorite they have something to really shoot for. I'm a HUGE fan of Lego Star Wars so I wanted to try to get most of the achievements for it to say I honestly completed it (kinda like trying to get level 99 characters in final fantasy etc). The people that love Fear and want to keep playing it months after it's out will have tough achievements to try to unlock. That playing the game without dying will likely have the bigger fans coming back to the game for months.

Have you ever actually tried picking up a girl at a bar by telling her your gamerscore? Until you try you never really know. Tell her you beat Burnout3 with all perfects and you've got the 150 gamerpoints to prove it....and if that doesn't get her engine running then maybe she wasn't the girl for you in the first place.

If I beat a game, that's all the achievement I need. The only game I have the full achievement points in is Fight Night. The points were a natural part of beating the game. Win a title, win some points. I hate most achievement points because they make you go out of your way to earn them. Beat F.E.A.R. with no slo mo. Why would I do that? The slo mo is part of the fun. That's like playing Halo with no grenades. The achievement points are a complete waste of time. I don't try to earn them and I don't care what my score is.

I hear what you're saying... If I want to play a game its because i want to play the game not see how many achiement points I can get... Then again I've only really played deadrising...but I'm not going to go out and rent a bunch of games that Im not really that interested in just to try and get some points...
