Have you ever actually tried picking up a girl at a bar by telling her your gamerscore? Until you try you never really know. Tell her you beat Burnout3 with all perfects and you've got the 150 gamerpoints to prove it....and if that doesn't get her engine running then maybe she wasn't the girl for you in the first place.
:D :D :D :p

Been playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance for a week now. I had low expectations for the game, but it has really blown me away. The team I like the most is Blade, Daredevil, Wolverine and Deadpool. Deadpool is a riot. I tend to favor characters that are not ridiculously over-powered....I prefer dudes who carry swords, sticks & guns for some reason. LOL
Was disappointed to see Star Trek: Legacy get pushed back from 11/7 to 11/21. I'm still getting COD 3 tomorrow.....I'm intrigued by Gears of War though.
Can anyone here tell me if "Blazing Angels" is worth picking up? Used to love flying games. I read some online reviews that mentioned you could not invert the Y-axis control setting in the game in order to simulate the way a real plane handles (push forward to go down, pull back to go up).

yeah when i went on live i lost all my previous gamerpoints, and now I have like 75 or something. I still have the other profile but only for some previously saved games. I couldn't care less about achievements.

I picked it up the day it came out because I was in the same boat as you....I love flying games (aside from the simulaters, those are just too realistic for my tastes) so I basically bought the game solely for the dogfighting. And for some odd reason I had talked myself into thinking it would be the Call of Duty of the sky. Well it's no call of duty but it is a pretty good game. I can't advise you picking it up for retail cost...the game can be beat over a weekend and the extra campaign you open up after defeating the game can be completed in an afternoon. Thats not to say it's a bad game...I had a hell of a time beating it and thought overall it was a really solid game. But you'd be 110% better off renting it or buying it used just so you can save yourself some money. The game simply isn't worth the $50-$60 new....maybe worth $25.

sounds pretty good. Do you know if that nonsense I heard about not being able to invert the Y-axis on the controls is true or not? I find it hard to believe a flying game would not allow a player to invert the Y-axis.....thanks.
Chugga
11-06-2006, 12:50 PM
To be honest I didn't even try to invert the controller (makes it confusing when I go back and forth between first person shooters and fly games). So I can't answer that question
hokiemon
11-06-2006, 12:58 PM
see that would be a show-stopper for me if it can't be inverted. Ever since I was a kid every flying game or FPS I played always had an inverted Y-axis. Only in the last few years have games given the player the option of "standard" or "inverted" Y-axis. I was always used to the "inverted" Y-axis so it is tough for me to break the habit of all those years. The only thing that has stopped me from picking the game up is that I read some reviews where people were upset that the Y-axis couldn't be inverted. It makes no sense to me that the game developers would not have included that feature, especially for a flying game.....so I'd like to hear from someone here on the board who's actually played the game.....thanks though.

I've got, like, a 565 gamerscore since my account was erased when I signed up for Xbox Live last month.
And I totally don't care. I've got much, much, much better things to do then get into a virtual **** waiving contest over something as stupid as that.
When you can go to bars and pick up chicks based on your gamerscore, let me know. Until then, no thanks.
To show you how clueless I am I don't even know what my gamerscore is. Or where to even find out. :D
No wonder I can never pick up any hot chicks. :o

I don't necessarily hate achievements.....well ok maybe I kinda do. I think they are brilliant in some form....when my friend comes at me and says "you haven't beaten Call of Duty 2 on veteran, thats impossible" I can point to my list and say "guess again". But overall as you've probably seen by my 3 page long rant I'm not particularly happy with the way they made them. Now you've got a whole generation of gamers thinking their point total has a direct connection to their knowledge of videogames. I've seen guys on the xbox boards say that their 15,000 gamerscore automatically makes them better then the guy with 2,000 points and the guy with 2,000 should shut up. Sad part is I've seen this a million times on those boards "oh why are you even talking with your 1,000 gamerscore".
And more importantly than anything else there is nothing else in the world that annoys me more (and believe me this happens ALOT) then a person completely ruling out playing a game or even debating on returning a game if the achievements are too difficult. Go to any videogame board and you see a topic saying "how hard are the achievements in this game???" and people will actually make a playing decision based off of that crap. On the Marvel Ultimate Alliance boards a guy was taking the game back because a code disabled his ability to get achievements. Someone is literally taking a game back because he can't get his precious virtual points that do nothing.
But anyways there I go ranting again....as far as the subject you bring up about tough achievements I actually like that idea. People who really want to master a game because it's their favorite they have something to really shoot for. I'm a HUGE fan of Lego Star Wars so I wanted to try to get most of the achievements for it to say I honestly completed it (kinda like trying to get level 99 characters in final fantasy etc). The people that love Fear and want to keep playing it months after it's out will have tough achievements to try to unlock. That playing the game without dying will likely have the bigger fans coming back to the game for months.
For the life of me, I can't understand why someone would return a game because they couldn't get achievement X. That seems silly. And the whole idea of people thinking they have some kind of clout over someone else because of their gamer score? That's amazing. Good thing I don't go to gamer boards.
I'm not totally against tough achievements, I guess I was really more complaining about FEAR in and of itself. I kind of like the achievement points myself. I don't know why, I just do. I know they do nothing other than give a person "bragging rights" and big whoop to that. But it is fun just among your friends list. Right now my bro-in-law has the highest gamer score on my friends list. And there's a little bit of friendly competition amongst us casual gamers. But as for doing nothing else than giving you bragging rights and maybe getting you an interview in OXM on the rare occasion. Yeah, they're worthless.
But as far as FEAR goes, in terms of myself liking to get a certain amount of game achievements, if I have to slog through a game several times just to get them. Then that's no fun. And, like you've said before, that totally defeats the purpose of gaming if you're just slogging through a game just to get points. Because gaming is about having fun. And, that's also not me being against a good challenge either. But against a repetitive challenge. It's just that the parameters of the challenge change. That's why I say I like more balanaced achievement points in games. Because, yeah I killed myself getting the 1000 points to beat COD2 on Veteran. It can certainly help your online gaming skills by making you quicker, but other than that, you just find yourself more frustrated with a game and saying, this is no fun. Rather than what it's intended to be. But yeah, I'm more for balanced achievements, because that way, when I have a game, I want a certain amount of the points, and when I take it back for trade-in value, I'm not thinking, man I only got like 6 of the 20 achievements.
But overall, I think the achievement points by Microsoft was a brilliant marketing idea. I would not be suprised of Sony tries to copy that in some way.

hey guys... not sure I'm allowed in this thread (since I don't own a 360 yet) but I was looking for some opinions
Would any of you honestly recommend the 360 over the PS3? I ask because I never had an Xbox and I've always had PS1 and PS2. Looking for a 360 for Christmas (not sure I'll get it, but never hurts to ask). The wife knows I want one pretty bad.

I'm as hardcore a Playstation guy as you'll find - early PS1 (paid full price for that bad boy), early PS2 (full price), and I'll hopefully have a PS3 by the end of next year. But hands down, the 360 is a great machine. I haven't had this much fun since Dreamcast (my all time favorite system).
Already own 7 games, and that will be 10 by the end of the month. Not to mention the HD-DVD drive, Xbox live arcade, etc...
It really is a great system.

I'm in the same boat. I was a Playstation guy all the way and was waiting for the day for the PS3 to come out. I vowed to never give in to Microsoft, but one day I played the Fight Night demo and instantly fell in love. Not to mention that I saw Dead Rising and I had to have it. But like Pooch, I'm going to have to get the PS3 for MGS4 and DMC4.
But yeah it's a purchase well worth it. You won't regret it.

I will recommend a 360 over a PS3 simply because I prefer the 360 to the playstation. I've never owned either a PS1 or a PS2 ... but have played enough on the systems to prefer my xbox to the sony systems. I personally think the PS3 is just too expensive. And I honestly think the PS3 is not going to be the king of the hill this round of consoles.
But that's all coming from a single console man. I got an Xbox 1 as a graduation gift from my brother and sister in law. Because he got me hooked on it, playing with him and and his brothers and friends on live. So, I got a 360 as well. And I've loved it. Except for the fact that it's broken on me twice. But, because xbox support has been good about replacing it quickly. I'm not going to jump ship anytime soon. I also have only one console because that's about as much gaming as I can handle while being in school, and even after that, when I'm out of school.
But that all said, choose the system that best interests you.
and meatgoat ... what's wrong with you man? :D

I know there is another emulator update coming this month, but I don't know when it's going to be released.....since JLH is a new game, I'm guessing it is doubtful that it will be included in that update.
Silent_Samurai

It will most likely become BC at some point.
But the updates for making xbox 1 titles BC is a bit more sporadic than updates simply for the system or Live. There is a current list on xbox website. And they usually update that more sporadically because then they can put on a lot of titles at once, rather than your system updating daily for one game.

Usually when I'm waiting for a game from Gamestop they say the "release date" is the date it ships and they don't sell it til' the next day. But, some games they've called me around 6pm or so on the ship date and say I can go get it so who knows.

One of the guys I talked to said that the "release date" posted on their site actually means "shipping date" and you should always add one day.
That's nothing new, actually. Most of the time, the "ship date" is listed on websites, and then it arrives the next day. In fact, I haven't seen Gamespot or IGN state the game has shipped yet. I'm sure that it should be available tomorrow, though.

That's the rumor. Hasn't been confirmed yet. It doesn't matter to me because I'm not going online until I beat the single player. I hate going online and getting owned because I'm learning as I go along. That's exactly what's happening to me with F.E.A.R.

Just got my copy (non-preorder) at my local Gamestop outside of Houston. Unh!!!
Sidenote:
While at my local GS, they had just finished setting up the Nintendo Wii demo display. After I handed them my driver's license (so I wouldn't bolt out the door with the remote), I played a round of a dunebuggy racing game.
I held the remote like a steering wheel so to speak, and by doing so, maneuvered the vehicle as if I was actually driving it!!!
Needless to say, I had to resist every gaming urge not to use the d-pad to steer the thing. I got used to it on the second lap and am utterly amazed at how awesome this console is going to be. I'm almost ashamed for not reserving one, because I literally can't wait to get mine!!!!
The graphics don't suck, but they weren't anything groundbreaking, as was to be expected from the information I've seen on the console. The Gamestop guys were pissed because the Nintendo rep didn't hook up high def, just regular old analog or whatever.
Go demo the console...if you don't have similar opinions on the subject that I do after you demo the Wii, you're probably a soulless demon from the 27th level of hell. Good day.
Seriously, as much as I love my 360, I can't wait to play with my Wii (pun intended)!!!!!!!!:D:D:D

I haven't had a system in 3 years now, so if I get the deluxe package will there be anything else I should look into picking up that will be essintial to having a good set-up?
Also, I was thinking about buying sort of early, but I was wondering if you guys think there will be any price drops or anything of that nature closer to Christmas?

1. Extra controller
2. Wireless bridge for XBox Live if you can't run an Ethernet cable to it.
You might see a price drop (I got my 360 for $50 off), but most likely you'll just see lots of packages with more than one game in them.

Unless you plan on having someone else play at the same time as you (relative, friend, whatever)...you don't need an extra controller. And you don't really have to have the wireless either...you can just buy the 60' ethernet cables if needed.
A MUST HAVE is either the battery recharger....or the plug and play system. Personally...I went with the PnP. Even though it means having to use a "wired" controller every now and then...it guarantees that I'll never have to worry about not playing because the batteries in my controller died and I forgot to charge the backup battery pack. Or...you could just buy a wired controller and never worry about batteries at all. As far as price drop...who knows.

I'm getting owned on Hardcore because I keep having to revive my teammates. I was doing fine until Dom ran out into the open for no reason and got killed. Then, I had to go revive him and I got killed. This is going to be a hard game. On Hardcore, you can't have your head sticking out for more than a few seconds without dying.

I always start on Easy and then beat games at progressively harder levels. I'm not the kind of person who likes to jump right in at the highest difficulty, I find it frustrating to get killed every 2 minutes when I'm trying to get into a new game. Also I have a wife & kids so I'm luck if I can get 1 hour of Xbox in per night.

Ah, right on. I usually start on normal on games, but like I said in the reviews it would sound like hardcore is their normal, but it sounds really hard. I'm just not used to any type of strategic shooters, I usually play FPSs so I was just wondering.

If you play on hardcore, you will get killed often. You'll get killed while you're being killed. That's how bad it is. If your head is out in the open for more than a few seconds, say goodbye. It also doesn't help that you keep having to revive your teammates. They die alot and it's usually because they charge into battle with their guns blazing. You'll have to move out into open space to revive them and that's when you'll die. I'm playing hardcore now and it really forces you to play the game the right way. On casual, you don't even have to take cover all that often. You can change difficulty settings from level to level so I highly recommend changing to hardcore after you get the control scheme down.

Gears of War is the game I've waited over 6 years for. It has delivered in every way imaginable. I never knew a game with such hype could actually deliver the way this game does. The co-op is freakin amazing, the absolutely brilliant use of cover, the level design, the graphics, everything. I'm only through 3 acts and I'm going to safely say it's by far the best game out for the 360. Probably the best game I've played in a couple of years.

Oh by the way for every great thing I've said about Gears of War....Call of Duty 3 has been shaky. They completely sped up the gameplay to a point where it's almost PC-like fast...but without a mouse...which equals ehhh not so great.
Thats not to say the game is bad...I think the single player will definately be an impressive experience even with the faster action. But I can't help but to think the 4 player has completely taken a step backward....now online on the other hand I think that will be improved. Just as a person who plays 4 player splitscreen on a weekly basis, I really think it's taken a step back.

I've never played COD2, but I can tell you the easy level on GOW is more difficult than the easy level on Halo 2. It's a blast, dude - you must get it. GOW is so good I predict it will the next "thing" like Halo 2 was when it came out. The character controls are very basic, it's not a difficult game to get a handle on. the intensity is what gets you. It's not your typical shooter game, that's for sure.

I'm mostly jealous because the damn thing hasn't hit locally here yet.
In the meantime, I celebrated XBL Wednesday by downloading Contra. The offline gaming part was great. I got together with a buddy of mine, and we played offline co-op. It wasn't the same "teary-eyed" feel of playing it as kids in the 80s, but it was still a blast. However, the IGN review trashed it, mostly saying the online multiplayer sucks.

It's not your typical shooter game, that's for sure.
i finally got a copy today at TRU times sqr.... booya...so excited to get outta work...

I'm finally getting both COD3 and GOW this afternoon. Stupid gamestop.
But I seriously can't stop playing MotoGP.
Made a nice replica of a team Repsol Bike for my created bike. Since there is only 8 layers (unlike the 100 Forza has), you are limited, but you can cheat and use your player logo on your bike, which has up 8 layers too. So you can get extra layers.

And this is still a common sight while I play.

And for the record, screw Contra. Based on the arcade version, and the multiplayer is very broken. Wait for a patch to get it if you want it.

it's not like Halo at all - it's a TPS not a FPS - but it is freakin' tremendous. I love Halo as well, this game is that good. This is the game that will help ease the pain while we all wait for Halo 3 to be released.

Shoot and run. It's the one where you have to make him run into doors to break them, right? He only responds to sounds and smell. Get close to any door or object you want him to break and start shooting. He'll hear you and charge you. Roll out of the way with the A button. Then, you have to lure him far away from the door so you can run back to the door and exit. Make sure to use the columns in the room since they slow him down. Run between them so he doesn't catch you.
gotta question about gamertags... as I don't have my system yet (really thinking I'm getting it from Santa this year) is there anyway to "reserve" your gamertag. I would want to try to make sure I could get Tat2... but it may already be gone anyway

I hate to tell you but there is a Tat2 with an overall gamerscore of just under 9,000. It's a shame because I think you have the potential to do better then this other crappy Tat2. Xbox Live is quite the busy place, a ton of gamertags are taken. Hell Chugga was taken...by me though...I'm an idiot and forgot the password to carry it over to Xbox360.

GOW really blows me away. Extremely impressive game.
Also, I cannot believe how good COD3 is. It looks incredible. The guns look so real when you zoom in. The multiplayer kicks so much ***. Played with a group of friends last night for hours, and it was probably the most fun I've had online. And the vehicles! Jumping in or on the back of tanks, trucks, or motorcycles, it's so much fun. Tried out five maps, some really lead to great gameplay tactics.

Worst part is Enchanted Arms is like a 40 hour game...Just Cause is another 15 or so hour game etc. Not to mention I still haven't picked up FF12 yet and Zelda is right around the corner.

I know everyone is on a Gears of War kick right now but I was checking out reviews and came across this "Bloodrayne with a Gun" Game called Bullet Witch.
I was just wondering what some of your thoughts were on it. Like I said, it looks like Bloodrayne with a gun.

I asked about this game in this thread a month or so ago and didn't get a single response on it. .... It looks cool to me. I like the design. And I like the ENORMOUS monsters. I found it on the Achievements website ... and the achievements are ust kind of meh, no real thought to them. Beat the game on this mode, beat the game on this mode ... and beat the game on Chaos mode.
It looks cool, but it also has the potential to be just another anime 3rd person adventure/shooter with a "CHAOS" mode.

Maybe I won't try playing online any time soon, but if anyone here has it and wants to give it a run, send me a message via XBL (GamerTag---Pyrrhonist ).

If you love movies as much as I do, its going to be VERY difficult to watch anything in standard definition after seeing King Kong in gorgeous HD. It literally jumped off the screen, and looked as good as it did (if not BETTER) then opening night last December.
I can't recommend it any more. I have very steep standards on stuff, and this blew everything away. Again, if you love movies, and have the money for it, you are only hurting yourself.

For the first time in my life tonight I almost threw a controller through my tv. I'm playing through call of duty on veteran and this one level has you literally crossing a road with heavy gunfire, taking back nazi trenches, crossing a wooded area with at least 20+ nazi's in it at all times, taking back another series of nazi trenches, taking over a building filled with nazi's and taking over a hallway with 8+ nazi's in it and no grenades. I do all that crap then die on some stupid mortar mini-game and they make me go all the way back to the beginning. At first I laughed thinking "oh crap they loaded the wrong section" until I suddenly start to realize they never gave me another freakin save point. On easy/normal/hardened I wouldn't mind this so much as I can just plow right back through to where I was but on veteran where you literally fight for every freakin square inch I can't justify going back and fighting through a freakin miles worth of enemies.
Some of the missions on Call of Duty 3 on veteran make Gears of War on insane look like a cakewalk.

I had a very bad Xbox weekend......on Friday, my 360 crashed on me. Stopped reading all my game discs.....I have no patience to wait for it to be shipped off someplace for repairs. So fortunately I was within 30 days of purchasing it. So I was able to exchange it for a new console.
BUT
last night I was playing GOW on the second new console......I was in the 3rd act of GOW.......suddenly during one of the cut scenes, it just froze up. I shut it down, waited a while, then tried to turn it back on. It wouldn't come back up, all I got were three red lights on the illuminated "ring" around the power button. So now I can't even get the damn thing to start up anymore.
When I took back the first console on Friday I did shell out the $40 for the product replacement plan. So that means I can return this second console and get another one at no additional cost at Gamestop....but that is a one-time replacement only. So what happens if the third console craps out on me??
Has anyone else experienced this many issues with their 360? I find it hard to believe that I would have two separate consoles crash on me in the space of two days. I love the system, but I'm concerned about this.

Thanks. I am still not believing the bad luck I've had with these consoles so far. I purposely waited almost a year after they came out to buy one in order to avoid these kinds of problems. If this third console craps out on me I will be severely pissed.
Interestingly enough, both consoles crapped out on me while playing GOW. Perhaps that game is simply too much awesome to be contained in one console.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck, hokie, but is it getting enough air? It overheats very easy if its not getting enough air, thats the reason mine locked up the first time. A couple tricks that may just be placebo but I do them anyway because my 2nd system (knock on wood) has been working OK since March are these.
1.) set something underneath the console that elevates it but doesn't block the vents.
2.) Set your power supply on top of an OPEN box to allow venilation on all sides.
Like I said, they probably don't do much, if anything, but what the hell.
Also, I know some people swear by them, but I would avoid the Intercooler. I had one for a while and eventually it caused my screen to lock up after making some weird pinging noise. I stopped using it and no problems since.
Just my 2 cents.

Wow, EA sure has had quite a few articles in the news lately:
EA Bites back at Marketplace Microtransactions
EA has defended its stance on the controversial Marketplace microtransactions in which players can buy and unlock in-game items in exchange for bought MS points. Talking to Microsoft's Major Nelson in his regular podcast, Chip Lange, Vice President of Online Commerce at EA, stated that the publisher was only providing consumers with a choice and that players can instantly unlock something - such as a golf course in Tiger Woods, rather than put 40-50 hours into the game - something which Lang claimed only 20% of people would do.
When drawn upon the issue of charging for what once might have been a cheat code, Lange argued, "There are places where cheat codes are free but those are on websites and those websites are making money by selling advertising." He went on to say, "There'll still be a healthy business around hint guides, magazines, websites… I just look at the Marketplace as yet another extension of ways in which consumers are going to be able to access the content they want."
Major Nelson went on to question Lange about removing cheats from current-gen games and charging for them on the 360 but he evaded the matter by stating, "I don't know if that's right or not. That's not something I've actually gone in and researched." It was certainly the case with The Godfather, where a push-button code to access more cash that was present in the Xbox version was removed from the 360 version.
In the rest of the interview Lange assuaged fears that content which was present in a current-gen game, such as levels, would be paid-for extras on the 360 and he rejected the suggestion that consumers were being short-changed. He went onto anticipate that EA would stick to its current pricing structure, stating, "As the gaming industry becomes more online centric that's going to provide a whole lot more choice to the consumer base provided that the basic package continues to be robust and rewarding."

It's not even that they aren't much better - as of right now, they aren't better, and according to leading developers, they may never look any better then the best 360 games. Due to programming difficulty and the fact that it just isn't as powerful as nonsensical reports, no one knows if it will ever unlock to its full potential. At best, its expected to look maybe 5-10% better then Xbox360 games - but don't ever expect something coming to both systems to look anywhere even close to different, unless theres just longer dev time (an example of this would be PS3 Fight Night - the models are notably improved, but more likely due to extended dev time then actual system power differences).
Another big problem is that game development times are going to need to be much longer to see truly great graphics. As pretty as GoW can be at times (and it can be flat out gorgeous, don't get me wrong), I guarentee Gears 2 looks notably better - now that the tech is all ironed out, they can streamline it more, add in more shader effects, higher rez textures, etc. Hopefully they take their time and aim for a mid to late 2008 release (and no, they haven't announced a damn thing but I'm willing to take whatever the odds are in vegas that they are making it), and make it perfect, instead of hurrying the **** out of it to aim for early 2008 and just crank out some trivial crap.
And to keep the GoW topic going, it may have some of the tightest (as in just well polished) gameplay I've ever experienced - but the storyline/writing/voice acting is about 150 times worse then Resident Evil. For that alone, I am not putting it on par with other games I've played in the last year, as I much prefer having a great story/writing/voice acting AND great gameplay then just great gameplay and some sort of 9th graders *****in' testorone-fest for a storyline.
If they hire some good writers/actors for the second GoW, it would probably be the best game in the history of mankind.

there's a reason why it reminds you Prince of Persia. It's made by the same team that did Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell.
here's a snippet from IGN:
From the team that brought the world Prince of Persia and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell comes a sophisticated new franchise utilizing the power of next-gen technology for its complex action. The first game in the Assassin's Creed franchise is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. Shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, the Assassins intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. Players, assuming the role of the main character Altair, will have the power to throw their immediate environment into chaos and to shape events during this pivotal moment in history.

The lack of the graphics being blow you away into the next century better, has always been one of my arguments against fanboys like Talon and so forth who just fall all over themselves explaining how much better the graphics are than the 360. The potential may be there to have great graphics, but if we're only talking marginally so, cross platform games will never look different from one platform to another. And if the PS3 graphics are only marginally better than the 360's .. then that's an advantage for the 360.
The only people who are going to have multiple consoles are the die hard gamers. And those who love the exclusive games enough to want both consoles. Me, I'm a single console gamer, and it's not because I have any loyalties to xbox whatsoever. It's more because that's what my brother-in-law hooked me on. That and I'm a graphics ***** myself. But had the PS2 been introduced to me first. I might be playing that. But as much as I love graphics, I know for a while there. I didn't play a lot of games because I didn't like the blocky graphics of the PS1. And I was very picky about what I bought for my PC.
I just happened to get hooked on the xbox, and the xbox 1 graphics were better than the PS2. I moved on to the 360 cause that's what my bro-in-law plays on and that's it. I don't have time while being in school to play on three different consoles. And if I wanted to be that die hard of a gamer. I'm sure I could be.
But as it stands I'm not. And the graphics between the 360 and the PS3 are not like they were with the xbox 1 and the PS2. Where the difference was pretty much close to blow you away noticeable. And game reviewers would complain about the graphics being too PS2 like on the original xbox when they knew the developers could have done better.
So this time around it's going to hurt the PS3 in terms of graphics because the difference is just too small. And game developers aren't going to spend that kind of extra cash just to make the games look a little better.
And it honestly remains to be seen what will happen. In a year or so .. the graphic differences could be huge or stay the same. .

Actually the Silver Surfer and Daredevil codes do not affect your achievements since they were provided by the manufacturer. If you try to use any of the other cheats for the game besides those two, you will be unable to get any further achievements awarded.

So, although I'm sure no one here really cares, I figured I'd throw up a little review of the Gears of War single player experience from a self proclaimed 360 nut and I'm going to write this as objective as possible. There may be some minor spoilers, so read at your own risk, but nothing too major.
AGAIN, SOME SPOILERS BELOW.
Story - 1.5/10 (Collectors Edition thanks to the Extra Artbook)
Yeah, so I'll get the bad out of the way first. The story in this game is actually fine - the premise and backstory, that is. But Jesus Christ that is basically an example of how to not compose a story in the game itself. You feel virtually no connection to the characters, you get some strange pieces to a storyline that is semi-coherent (which, thanks to the Collectors Edition Artbook, you get a much better idea of what the **** is going on), the writing dialogue wise is just terrible, and theres really no consistency to the story. Without going too far into the story, just know it leaves us for an inevitable sequel. It's not like "we may need a sequel", either, but "we will need a sequel", but they have said in the past this is going to be a trilogy at the very least.
Value - 5/10 (Campaign wise)
This was a tough one to score, as the single player/co-op campaign clearly has a bit of replay value. After fighting through on either of the 2 unlocked difficulty, you get a 3rd difficult in insane, which is apparently impossible to complete without a partner. The default difficulty is somewhat challenging, with alot of the challenge coming from just your character not doing what you said or your squadmates making boneheaded mistakes (more on that later), but I still completed it playing just a few hours a day in 3 days - hardly what I'd call "good" value. The fact that multiplayer and co-op are such big selling points, and the fact that this review was trying to strictly address the single player portion, I'll leave it at 5/10 and call it average value as a single player game. I'm satisfied, but overall the type of story they are trying to tell would be much better in a 13-18 hour game then a 4-6 hour one. The game just didn't feel at all "complete", even for a first chapter. It's more like a few chapters in fellowship of the rings then an entire part of the trilogy.
Gameplay (Quality) - 10/10
Ah, there it is. The actual gameplay! This is where the game shines, and if I could score it higher, I would. The actual "horizontal platform" style of the game is just grand. Everything just "feels" right. Controls work great, hitting enemies is awesome, the stages are all nicely laid out (even the allegdly boring Act 3), and the weapons are all pretty useful (except maybe the Locust Machine Gun, which I hate, and the Troika's). The sniper rifle is so satisfying, and although its kind of unfun to use, if you get a hit with the bow, watching the gibs fly never gets old. Don't even need to say much here, just know that it is good.
EDIT: One thing I forgot - Squad AI. This needs fixing for the sequel. There needs to be more of a way to hold guys back. Sometimes Good Ole Dom just decides going between 2 boomers is a brilliant decision. Dom, that is NEVER a good idea. But this isn't TOO much of a problem, as when your squadmates fall, they are ignored by the Locust and you can usually just clear the room by yourself and they will pop up ok. But it still needs fixing, and can be very frustrating. But everything else is so good, I'm not taking off for this.
Gameplay (Variety) - 7/10
Really wish this was higher. Unfortunately, as fun as it is, there really could be another 3-4 boss fights in the game. By my count, there are roughly 2. And the second one is just not that much fun at all. The first one is similar to a Zelda boss, and is a blast, but short. This is another reason why value falls short. Why does it feel this game is more of a tech demo and not a full game? Zelda is going to give us 7 awesome, epic boss fights, 7 huge dungeons, mini games, a world to run around, and here we have 2 boss fights and 5 levels. Not exactly epic, if you ask me (no pun intended). There are also no real puzzles to speak of outside of a few fights that require some basic solving and you are also assisted with the helpful "look" button. Hopefully GoW2 will address this.
Graphics - 8.5/10
Yeah, I did it. I gave GoW less then a 9, let alone a 10, in graphics. And let me explain why - it looks gorgeous when it is clicking. There are parts (most of act 3 comes to mind), where you just want to stop and say "holy **** man" the entire time. But there are also some really bad textures at some points, and some really strange LOD errors (textures not loading for 10-30 seconds after an area loads), as well as some minor framerate issues. The reason why I knocked off a whole 1.5 points? Cause this would be easy **** to fix if they didn't rush it. Not entirely Epic's fault, I know, but at the same time its completely frustrating to see just gorgeous graphics on one hand, and then just complete crap mess ups (the corpser textures in particular are terrible) in the same game.
Sound - 10/10
Ah, but the sound. Oh, the sound. This may be the best part of the game. The score is just great. It's better then most movie scores. Then you also have great gun effects, great monster sounds, good voice actors (they themselves are fine, but the dialogue is terrible).
This is a game that needs 5.1 to be perfect. And let me tell you, it is without a doubt perfect, sound wise.
Overall - 8.8/10
I really, really like the gameplay. That doesn't need much changing, maybe just about 5 more boss fights in the sequel. And that what excites me the most. The actual potential of the franchise is near limitless. If they set it in a semi open world ala Zelda, added closer to a 20 hour experience, refined the graphics just a bit, added a bit more of a puzzle styling, we would see one of the elite franchises out there.
The groundwork is now there. It's time for Epic to build something special.
Wow, that went on a bit longer then I expected. I really don't expect anyone to read it, either, but I had lots of free time :).

I respectfully disagree with a couple parts of your review. It's your opinion so obviously your entitled to it but personally this is what I thought....
The main problem I saw was the fact that you were comparing this game to Zelda. Now I know you weren't putting them head to head or really making that big of a deal about it but you simply can't even toy around with putting any kind of shooter side by side with a game like Zelda. Zelda is one of the top 3 videogame franchises known to man it....it's a living legend of a videogame and for good reason. To compare any adventure game with a shooter in terms of bosses is already somewhat sketchy enough....but Zelda??? Heres the problem with shooters putting bosses into their games. They become gimmick levels...in a game based solely on your twitch skills with a controller you are all of a sudden shooting out levers and interacting with objects in order to move on in a game that should be solely about your shooting/smarts...not how well you turn levers. I don't think in the history of shooting games I've ever actually had a boss fight that I actually enjoyed or cared about. Although Raam was about as close as I've ever gotten. Does Gears of War have a ton of bosses to face? No they don't, but alot like HL2, Doom, etc there are some experiences that happen in game that are far better then any boss fight you could ever come up with.
As for the story thats my only other gripe with your review. From day one this game has been about how mankind has it's back against the wall in a fight they likely won't win. Was the story deep? Not at all. Did you even find out that much throughout the course of the game? Not really. But when it's all said and done -spoilers here- you truly feel as if you've experienced something that you don't want to leave behind. You play through 5 challenging acts only to find out that the shred of hope that you just came across is basically tossed out the window the second you get to the final monologue. The games story wasn't exactly written out for you to read in your off time....it's more based around your own emotions while playing the game. You defeat this absolutely terrifying boss and take a huge chunk out of the enemies numbers only to find out that your back is just as much against the wall now as it was 36 hours ago before you put the game in the machine. You spent all your time fighting through hoards of enemies only to find out that the main guy you killed was a mere General. Sure you never get connected to any of the characters but thats the way it's supposed to be....one second you could be talking about the good times with your squad mate and the next second he's getting sniped in the head or a berzerker is ripping him limb from limb. The world that this game set up isn't made for friendships or tea parties. I mean I'm not saying the story is amazing. Is the story the greatest? No it's not but a 1.5 isn't fair at all and chances are you know that. The story is what it is. It's a story about mankinds desperate attempt at staying alive and regardless of how much progress we make they will always be a step ahead. It's a crappy world to live in but damn I'm sure as hell going to be first in line for the sequel. I think anytime a game can make you beg and plead for a sequel the story did something right.-spoilers end here-
As for graphics I had none of the problems you spoke of aside from on occassion Dominic's back not being completely rendered until a good 3-5 seconds into a level.
For me it's the game I've been waiting forever for. Finally a shooter where I'm not strafing and jumping unloading clip after clip into my opponents face only to die to some jackass with a rocket launcher. It's a game that makes you use your head and rewards you for not being the idiot that runs out into the middle of a battlefield. No other game has accomplished what this game has. Kill.switch tried and fell short...perfect dark zero tried and failed miserably....and ghost recon did it's best but couldn't carry over the experience to multiplayer. I can't possibly give a game that is the first to nail the genre so well anything less then a 9.4.

no problems....the first console was still within the 30-day window of when I purchased it. (bought it from EB Games) So they let me exchange it. I paid the $40 for a product replacement plan when I got the second one because I was nervous. Damn good thing I did that, because less than 2 days later the second console was crap.
From what I've read, Microsoft will also replace the console if it is within 90 days of purchase - but of course you have to ship it off to them and wait for them to ship it back to you.
Sounds to me like it's hit or miss with the 360. There are people who never have problems with theirs, then there are people like me who run into all kinds of problems.

Tat,
It was paranoia after reading some of the return stories that had me buy my 360 at Costco. Then, you have a lifetime warranty for the cost of the bundle there, and can return the system for any reason. You just have to pay $500 instead of $400, since the bundle comes with an extra controller, a game (PGR3), and the charge & play kit.

We'll just have to agree to disagree Chugga. Where you see a minimalist story complimenting the game, I find that it really needs more meat. And I don't necessarily mean more backstory, since the Artbook takes care of that (The use of Immulsion and whatnot), but I really do wish we had some characters we care about and they didn't sound like a bunch of middle schoolers who are finally allowed to swear for the first time.
Maybe a 1.5 on the story is a bit harsh, but I personally disliked the execution of it that much. The story idea itself is a 8+ - pushing humanities backs against the wall. I just felt the game didn't convey it nearly as well as it could have.
And personally, I find the adventure game comparison valid. There are parts that have a definate adventure game feel, which is why I feel many of the elements would lend themselves perfectly for the sequel. In the artbook we are told all humans were forced to one remote place, guess what? that could be your central hub. From there you get mission assignments and progress the story a number of different ways. And I totally agree boss fights in shooters usually suck ass - but mostly because they had to. But this isn't an FPS. With the way bosses are done in games like RE4 and God of War, they would lend themselves perfectly to something like this. Just running around taking cover and unloading 400+ machine gun shots into General RAAM was painfully anti-climatic IMO.
But obviously I found those points so minor that I still gave it an 8.8, and that will probably only INCREASE when I play on Insane in Co-op.

I got the Xbox camera. It's really cool. Small too. you can send pics in your messages.
Can't wait to use it for RS.
You can plug a regular one in, but I don't think it'll work with the face mapping.

Man, the Superman Returns Demo finally came out today, and my 1 month free Trial of Xbox Live Gold just ran out so I can't download it.
I really can't afford the extra money for 1 month right now, but I may just have to suck it up. Bummer.

I'm hoping to get it for Christmas. My wife and her sister would be able to video chat, of course I'd have to time limit it, because then they'd wanna chat when it's game time. And I just can't have that. :D
