Ruutu- Don't worry man. It's fun regardless. You'll get there. Give it a chance, it's a great game.

That night the lobby was echoing my cries of "Damn you Oaktown!!!!" Ahaha. Man, he's good at sticking with grenades. Fun stuff.

To be honest though, I haven't been on there in a bit, too busy with RS:LV.
Awesome game, fantastic multiplayer. Sometimes glitchy getting in games, but it's a lot of fun. And it's pretty much the only way to Rank up quickly.

But the spawn camping/killing has started, depends on the match type and players, but some rooms really can suck if you are the wrong team.

Oh, Jamesways, Pyrrhonist, Oaktown2000, etc... sorry about my poor GOW skills the other night.

Don't even worry about it, man. It's not like I didn't keep prodding you to join us, even after you said "no" initially. :D The multiplayer can be very intimidating at first, even when you get comfortable with playing the campaign. We usually try to play with a bunch of us from here, or guys I know from work, so you won't usually have to worry about letting a team down. We're all friends!!

Very challenging on the "realistic" setting. Sometimes just one or two shots will take you down.

The only thing I'm not sure on (Since Cory covered the rest) is if your Gamertag has to be re-established when you sign up "officially" after the trial.

And the estimates may be a bit off on that though. Most online matches will get you over 200 points. UP to 1400 if you are in a long one and end up winning.

that's the only bad thing about playing on xbox live. Too many foul mouthed kids under the age of 16 that wouldn't have the balls to say such things to you face to face. That's why if, and that's a big if, I play with people not on my friends list, I unplug the headset and turn off the voice output. Because it's a cancer on the ears to listen to some pubescent boy scream obscenities in my ear and tell me how he's old enough to eff my mother. And then quit the game at the last minute because he's having his ass handed to him. That's why I stick with my friends list.

The great thing about that though. The feedback system. You are less likely to be paired with someone you had a bad experience with if you rate them negatively. I like that. I also love that you can stream music into your 360 from an ipod or music player because that certainly cuts down on those ass hats that think everyone that's playing with them needs to listen to their music as well. I don't know how many times on the xbox 1 I was either kicking people out or the entire lobby was yelling at someone to turn their stereo down.

Ok, I need to rant a bit.
I was reading my Game Informer, and couldn't help but notice a lot of doubt about the 360 now that the ps3 is here.
Two articels in the mag specifically. The pro/con debate page and then one talking about the 360 being in a slump, or even a decline. They state that there are really no decent games out for it ( the author was hoping that GoW will somewhat "save" the system), the launch numbers of games and units was disappointing, and that in some sense, the 360 is hurting because MS sold more original xboxes per month comparatively when it first released.

I just gotta call BS on this. I don't know about you guys, but I have new games sitting on the shelf untouched, 'cause I'm awfully busy playing other new games. There are plenty of good titles out for it now. The sales numbers I really can't comment on, they might be below projections, but I'm sure they are still selling a lot of them.

In the pro/con article, MS is stating that in the US alone, they have sold almost 3 million units (GI says 2.4) before the ps3 hits the market. The one author states that that is a pretty good head start, it's got a nice library of games already, and the online is working really well.
The other states that Sony doesn't think an almost 3 mil head start matters at all, and he personally thinks it's only significant after 10 mil units are sold. He talks about sony brand loyalists and then about their online options.

I am sorry, but sony's online is untested yet, and xbox live has been solid. Citing that as one of the selling points of sony over the 360 is total crap IMO.

I am not a sony hater, but I just think some credit is due to MS. I don't think it's in a slump, or a steady decline now that the ps3 is here. There's a lot of great stuff coming out soon, and plenty to play right now. I'm sure MS will have no problems selling consoles over the holiday season.

I think for the first few months after its release there were not a lot of really good 360 games. But in the past 6 months you've seen the game developers catch up to that platform. The same thing will no doubt happen with the PS3. In my opinion right now they don't have any good launch titles. but within a year you will see some good things happening on PS3.

But I agree that there's no way the 360 is hurting right now, lots of good titles available and more upcoming.

Jamesweighs
11-29-2006, 08:28 AM
Yeah, at launch, there wasn't much, but he's talking about current titiles. Or the week before GoW came out. There's a slew of games. SLEW I SAID.

Just seemed to me that they kinda jumped on Sony's bandwagon real quick and pointed out how it's going to be great in the future. I don't doubt that at all. But I live in the present, and right now, the 360 is great for gaming. It's not fading away.

You have to realize that there are way more Sony fans out there. The PS2 outsold the Xbox by an astronomical number. Some of those people may have hopped aboard the 360 bandwagon, but a whole lot more are going to stay with Sony. Basically, that means that a 3 million console headstart isn't much. Especially when Sony sold 40 million consoles and counting last gen. Xbox 360 is not in a slump, but they struggle to have the variety of games that appeal to everybody. That's starting to change with the inclusion of games like Guitar Hero, but RPG fans are still going to be left with only a few choices and games like Guitar Hero will be few and far between. PS3 has the Japanese developers almost completely to themselves because the Xbox 360 doesn't sell well there. That means Sony gets to keep the customers who want games like Ico, Amplitude, Twisted Metal (the only good car combat game on the market) and other games that the Xbox generally doesn't have.

I buy all of the systems. Nintendo systems for first party games, Microsoft for FPS and Action games, Sony for Action/Adventure, RPGs and everything else since the Japanese companies that take chances with new ideas are mostly in Sony's corner. That may change if Sony doesn't get more PS3s out in a hurry.

Cue Smbdyfnkillme being accused of being a Sony fanboy in 5...4....3....2....

First, here are the number of systems sold to date in the current consol "war"
http://nexgenwars.com/

Second, didn't the PS2 have the jump on the XBox much like what the 360 has on the PS3 at the moment? Out of the gate first does help, especially after your last gen platform was so popular.

Third, it seems like Sony has alienated many of it's fans with the high price of the new system.

I'm not so confident that Sony can sell 40 million units this time... the PS2 was a pretty solid system with an excellent library of games and no real competition (Nintendo had fallen by the wayside and XBox seems to be too new and unprooven). The PS3 has some mighty impressive specs but I'm not sure it's delivered yet.

IMO we'll have a clearer picture this time next year. :)

And one final thought... we as consumers don't owe any of these companies our loyalty. We buy what we like or who does things best. Any fanboyism is complete BS in this day and age.

Smbdyfnkillme
11-29-2006, 09:42 AM
First, you didn't address the games issue. Second, I was talking about the last gen. Your sales figures were nice, but they won't hold up in the long run. You're using worldwide console sales. If you want to do that, then the Xbox comes in third last gen because they lose big time to Sony and Nintendo in Japan. Third, my only point was that people are brand loyal. Most of the PS2 people from last generation will also buy a PS2 this generation. Same for the other systems. Of course, most of them are going to wait for the price drop. That's why we can't judge anything yet. It'll be about two years before we can truly judge because most people won't pay $400 or $600 for a console. The systems didn't catch on last gen until they reduced their price from $300 so even a price cut to that won't make a major difference for casual gamers.

In reguards to ps3 vs XBOX 360....

I work at a target and the week before the launch of the ps3 there were 80 units of the 360. By the time of the ps3 launch that number was cut down to 20. Less then a week later they sold out of Xbox 360s at the target. So it still has a nice buzz.

Smbdyfnkillme

IMO 360 has a great variety of games, soars with XBOX live and I've always found the XBOX style of control/feel better than sony. I had a PS1 and a PS2, but I see no need to get a PS3, especially with Blu-Ray being the lesser of the 2 HD formats.

Lesser format has nothing to do with it. Betamax was the better format also. As good as HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are, I hope that neither one catches on and that both companies learn an important lesson. That lesson is to stop forcing things on people too early. Honestly, I think I know about two people that even have HDTVs. Both formats seem destined to fail because there isn't a big enough audience that these formats appeal to. Also, the average person doesn't care that the image is slightly clearer. They want to see the movie and that's it. When they go to the store and see the same movie in three formats (DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray), the average person is going with a DVD since most popular movies can be had for about 9.99 if you buy the basic version as opposed to $25-$30.

Just so sidewinda doesn't cry, I'll stay on topic. Smackdown for the 360 is great. The loading times are awful, but not long enough to detract from the game. There....happy:D

To say the 360 is "in a slump" right now is a tad false, IMO. Like Jamesways said, I have 2 games sitting untouched right now (R6: Vegas, Oblivion) because of the desire to play Gears of War every time I sign on. Sure, I want to play those 2 other games, but when I see 5-6 from my Friends list online playing Gears, I'm going to play against/with them.

That being said, the power of the Sony Playstation loyalty should not be questioned. The very name "Playstation" is almost synonymous with gaming today as "Nintendo" was in the earlier days. I am sure I'll own a PS3 at some point in this generation, but no way am I paying $500 or $600.

Onto other Xbox360 news----DOUBLE DRAGON!!

Classic '80s fighter Double Dragon is coming soon to Xbox Live, it has been revealed. Playing as Billy and Jimmy Lee, the two martial arts experts must punch and kick their way through the crime-ridden streets, taking on the Black Warriors gang in a bid to rescue l'il Bill's sweetheart, Marian. Okay, so the story might suck, but the graphics have been jazzed up and the bone-crunching gameplay promises to be as pure as ever, with two players fighting side-by-side over Live, dishing out fists of justice by hammering the buttons.

We'll keep you posted as to when Double Dragon will be punching its way onto Xbox Live Arcade.

Then it might be okay. Honestly, the demo wasn't that impressive so I haven't been keeping up with this game. It's not that the demo wasn't fun, but it just seemed like a generic shooter. I need to know how long the game stays fresh. It seems like it would get repetitive very fast. For $60, my standards are high (maybe too high). Ok, that was just uncalled for. I'm just kidding.
You do raise some good points, some genres are really lacking. RPGs, like you said, and what about fighting games? Only one, two if you count FN.

And you are right, people are brand loyal.

But I hardly think it's in a slump. And I know down the line I'll probably get a ps3 too. ****, the F1 and GT games alone is making me drool...

Anyhoo, DOUBE DRAGON! That's so awesome! I'll buy that in a second! I assume they are talking 'bout the arcade version, not the Nin one.

That Viva Pinata page is cool. Looks like a fun, quirky game. Might have to pick that up for the GF to play.

I may have to try out Viva Pinata from what I've been hearing about it. Is it fairly easy to learn? I say that, because I'm trying to get my wife a little more into using the controller for more complicated games other than Hexic and pacman and what not.

That Viva Pinata page is cool. Looks like a fun, quirky game. Might have to pick that up for the GF to play.

You think you're behind on playing games now? Getting Viva Pinata for the g/f will not help the situation at all - she will take over your 360 guaranteed :D
Mine has me looking up on that webpage how to convert sours, how to make honey, how to make variants, etc. while she's playing. She even made an Excel spreadsheet out of most of that info to have handy - it's pretty funny actually, she's completely hooked.

I called the free thing a few pages back. I still think they're going to try to force us to pay for them again when Madden 08 comes out. There will be plenty more microtransactions by then and they won't get criticized as much. One thing is for sure, I will never pay one dime for something that should've already been in the game in the first place.

I was on from about 11:55 to 3:30 eastern time. When we had an all boardmember team we did pretty damn good. There was just always 1 good guy on the other team...doomsday or something. If you got out and dealt with him quick the game wasn't even close. Longer you let him live the more damage he does.

Hell of a player but not much of a sense of teamwork. Thats the only reason me and oaktown were able to take him down on that last match when we got stuck with the dude who's head was like a stationary target. It was 3 on 3 and literally every single match our teammate would get shot in the head leaving it 3 on 2. Oaktown would either snipe/mow down one of his teammates so it's 2 on 2. Then came the chainsaw 2 on 1. Then doomsday died. We came back from being down 0-3 to win 5-4. If we had those tactics from match 1 we would have likely shut them out.

Love the price, hate the feature and how freakin long it took them to get it out. I was done with Madden weeks ago, I wanted the Bills alternate jersey MONTHS ago. Too little too late for me, sure I could download the jerseys but I'm not even playing the game anymore whats the point.

For people who can play madden year round this is great news but otherwise who cares. I always thought it was stupid that for $40-$50 you could get a new madden on xbox, ps2, etc and get 50 million jerseys then for $60 you are charging me extra money just to get a 3rd jersey?

There....happy:D

i see your point here, you're probably right.

I actually liked the fact the he would die so quickly. Having 3 of them camp at the bottom with sniper rifles even though they outnumbered us 3v2...then us using tactics to get them to go to one side...why flanking from the other...and then taking em out up close...was alot more fun then the usual...everyone rush to the bottom and the match is usually over in a minute.

Yeah I felt bad for him though with him dying 2 seconds into the fight and then being forced to watch the next 5-10 minutes of us slowly screwing over the other side. At least he got to play most of the game when we were on the bottom. He didn't die then until someone finally charged down.

Yeah he's an awful teammate. I was on his team once in 3 on 3 play and there wasn't even communication over the headsets. I mean not even 1 word was muttered so I thought everyone on my team didn't have a headset then all of a sudden I die and hear him crying like a baby about how he shouldn't have died. First 2 rounds I was on his team I picked up kills pretty quick I think I had 4 kills through 2 rounds to his 1 and I'm not kidding when I say he completely threw any absolutely horribly thrown together teamwork we had at the time out the window and went rambo costing us the match. It was the one game where he did absolutely terrible, I think I finished with 10 and he had like 2 kills. I know oaktown+por2gee were on the other team because oaktown sniped me but then I pulled the greatest pincer in the world and evened the score with a chainsaw. Then his brilliant idea was to camp an area on the map and we had a train ran on us.

We had 1 guy who it was his first day playing the game and the other guy didn't even know how the cover system worked in a tactical cover system shooter.

We had absolutely no communication, we talked more in the lobby or after we died then we did when the game started up. Last night was cool as hell, and so was tonight but my god I'm a fan of the whole tactical aspect of the game and we pretty much tossed that out the window tonight, felt like I was back playing Halo2 again.

I don't care if you suck I just like some communication in tactical games like GOW. I mean the other team could run a train on us and I wouldn't mind as long as someone told me the train was coming.

It's really like playing 2 completely different games when you actually have an alert and active squad compared to a squad that doesn't talk. I mean when I play games with oaktown, pyrrhonist, cory, etc on my team I know where every freakin person on the map is.

"2 guys going to the left"...."1 guy under the bridge"...."theres a sniper in the right tower"

Then compare that to

".......*sneeze*......*fart*........*scratch nose*.....*static*.......----shotgun blast to the back----"

Sounds like half the games I play online - I know we are in for a bunch of fun when at least 2 of the guys don't say a ****ing word and just run off and do their own thing, meanwhile the other team runs through flanking like a well oiled machine and I go down faster then something that goes down fast.

Best game I ever played, 3 v 3, perfect communcation. Everyone called everything, and we absolutely dominated. We were so well organized we barely needed to shoot as me mostly just chased 1 guy to another guy who then chainsawed that guy.

Well when I first started playing Gears of War (yesterday) I was taking cover, firing conservatively, and overall getting my @$$ handed to me. Then I realized "hey this dumb@$$ who keeps chopping me in half may be onto something". So then I became rambo for a few rounds and was still getting chopped in half. Then I realized....wait, this guy wasn't that great, he just had a good team. It's hard to close ground and make kills with the chainsaw without a few buddies watching your back and giving you cover. By far my highest scoring games are when I'm actually communicating and saying "ok you pin him down, I'm going around back".

Trying to be Master Chief in this game just doesn't work out well. Hell even Master Chief has Cortana.

I gotta get back to GOW. Way too much RS. But even in that, some of the best teams I've been on chat about position, number of enemies, etc. Nothing better than being part of a cooperating assult team in attack and defend. Extremely efficient.

It was basically 4 on 3 because I was the first person to die almost every time. Either I die early or I live to the end. You could've asked to switch teams or have one of the guys switch to our side. Your biggest handicap was the suicide bomber guy. He died almost every time he grenade tagged somebody. It was ridiculous.

*Semi-rant* Grenade tagging and chainsawing are the glitchiest things in the game. I wasn't even close enough for the guy to touch me and he somehow grenade tagged me. What the hell is that? It must have magically teleported from his hand to my body because that's the only way he could've tagged me. Also, the chainsaw does the same thing. Somebody please explain to me how I could get chainsawed after I have rolled away from the guy with the chainsaw. What? Did they even test these two weapons? *End rant*

I was just saying that because I never saw you around any of your teammates. You were kamikaziing and Chugga was hiding around corners waiting with the chainsaw. Hell, I didn't even know you were a boardmember. I don't know how you did it, but I know you tagged me while I was running from you. Grenade tagging has too much range. Add me to your list. Gamertag is the same as my boardname.

well, if your taggin, you really dont want your teammates around anyways, so they dont get blown up. Which absolutely baffles me because he lived for sooooooooo long in every single match. He ran off by himself, didn't even know how to use the cover system, didn't know how to pop out and shoot people, and from what I could see had no idea about any of the maps we played on last night. But dude was alive forever. Probably because he was exploring parts of the map that most people don't even think exsist.

And as for my rant on no communication, cory was excluded from that. We had a couple of brilliant plans throughout the night....none of which actually worked that great, but we were giving it a shot. Hell we had a brilliant idea upstairs in the clocktower level then both of our teammates died and everyone came upstairs during phase 2 of our plan. While Cory is out tagging like 50 times a game I generally know the where he's at. We definately had communication through most of the game....but then after getting shut out like 100 times I just started hiding around corners hoping someone ran by me so I could take some sort of personal victory.

Im still working on the rolling away after the tag.

That doesnt mean Im not a good teammate. I communicate very well with my teammates.

well, while Im alive that is

I bet if you rolled past them you'd have better luck. Enemies always assume you will run away in the same direction you came. Like most enemies expect that when I'm holding a chainsaw I'm going to charge them straight on (which I do anyways)...when in reality I'll probably get shot or gun butted that way....if you roll past them then just start turning with the chainsaw in hand you'll lock on sooner or later. And as smbdyfnkillme has pointed out....theres no rolling out of the way once your locked on.

I like our follow-up "review sessions" of our gaming time.

I did find it odd that my buddy (KillaB) lived so long, since he really doesn't use the cover. It's baffling, too, since he does use it in the campaign mode. It's even to point of frustrating, since he has so many kills in ranked mode, while I am stinking it up. I just want my achievements!! :D

And BTW, Chugga, cory, oaktown, smbdy----You guys should not come online for a few times, so I can play Smackdown vs Raw '07, and Rainbow Six. When I see you guys online, I instinctively put Gears in the tray. :D :D

I want to go on record as saying I hate each and every one of you who thought those last teams we had that we had to live through for 5 straight matches were fair.

I don't want to come off like I'm whining....but I am....I definately am.

LOL......man...I asked at least 5 times, "so is everyone cool with the teams or do you wanna switch em". Cory...your teammate, kept saying..."nah..it's cool...lets just play...who cares". And when I did try the random....it kept putting the exact same teams together all over again. I had a feeling you were being slowly tortured on that side.

I almost actually like it better when some of my teammates die off. Some of the best games I've had are when I find myself and one other teammate alive against 3 or 4 from the other team. If you do make that comenback...it's all the more stasfying. There's nothing quite like clicking the back button...realizing..oh crap...it's just me against 3 of them now.......and ending up taking out all three of them.

I bet theres nothing like realizing it was you vs. 2 of our team last night only to see them come at you one at a time. Cory can back me up on this....you were on the backside of a storage crate and they BOTH see you as you're the last person left. One of them is to the left the other to the right....if they charge it's game over we win. The outcome? One of them starts to go to the corner of the map and one of them hides in the back of a truck bed.

Thats basically the rundown of how our night went.

In chat I actually offered to send someone a no helmet emmitt if we changed teams. I didn't realize no one on my team knew what that was so probably why I didn't get any takers.

But anyways GOW is one of the few games you can have fun with even when you are losing. The losing just started to wear on me as the night went on when matches started going on for entirely too long.

Grenades take away the bread and butter of my game. I'm about hiding and closing distances quickly. But I see you running around with grenades equipped and I don't even bother because even if I chop you in half I'm dying too. I honestly think my only gun kills come from killing you just because I absolutely have to shoot you. And unfortunately my gun kills come few and far between. I got needlessly ****y last night....I knew it was 1 on 1 so I wanted to give a show to the audience watching and chased down Pyrrhonist when I could have easily shot him and paid for it by him hitting the luckiest shot known to man.

Gridlock is my favorite map. I like the Canals because I'm good for 1 kill per round where someone has no clue I'm standing right behind them. Clocktower is also really fun...you need a strong squad to win there. From what I've seen 2 downstairs, 2 upstairs has worked best and then just hope one side breaks through and is able to flank to break the stalemate thats going on upstairs. I also like the Mansion level where it's just a giant stairway and a courtyard on the bottom with sniper rifles. But I only like that map if there are actually good snipers holding the rifles. Anything else is just 50 barrel rolls and dead sniper.

Any level with the torque bow is terrible for me. I don't what it is, but I'm drawn to it. Especially on the Canals. I was the first to die almost every time because I kept going for the torque bow. I'll learn my lesson one of these days.

I want to hear from his mouth that it was complete luck because if that was him actually being skillful then I give up playing because he's obviously lightyears ahead of anyone I know. I hunted him, I waited till he turned around and gave chase like a madman. How he knew I was behind him is beyond me.

Chugga
11-30-2006, 12:46 PM
Don't even bother picking up the torque bow unless you've had a ridiculous amount of practice with it. It's a good weapon but a halfway decent barrel roll will have you missing with it 95% of the time. I've seen some people do amazing things with the bow and others...well, the others just die.

That's called "escalation".

I only mention it...because there is another map that is actually called "Mansion". It's a giant house with several entryways and an upstairs and downstairs. I don't think we've actually gotten there yet since you've been playing chugga. To my recollection...since you've been joining the past nights...we've yet to hit "Tyro Station"....the railyard map, "Mansion"...the big house map, and the one with the turret gun that sits upstairs....can't remember the name of that one.

I actually told my teammates that I saw you coming. I saw you after I eliminated your teammate, and took off for that corner. I swear to you I aimed my shot with that sniper rifle, right for the head.....I won't necessarily say that I expected to hit your head, because I knew I only had 1 shot or I'd be chainsawed. It was done on purpose, though, it was not a blind shot in the dark. There's no denying though----it made for a great ending to that round.

I need to play with you guys some night too .. I communicated but every now and again you have to ask about me because I'll get in the "zone" and clam up and not talk for a bit. But I'm usually with someone. Usually when I'm playing with the guys on my friends list, I'm the one calling out the other players positions and if I shut up they think I died. Until one of my teammates turns around and sees me behind them. HA!

Also, I started playing Gun last night and honestly, I don't think it's that bad. It tries too hard to be an epic western. I can tell the head of development on this game wanted people to think of Tombstone because that's what the music sounds like. The story seems pretty decent so far. And the game play is decent, but the control scheme is just wacky. It's one of those control schemes that make you scratch your head and wonder why they mapped that action to that button. At least movements and fire buttons are the same. But I found myself rehealing when I didn't need to when I wanted to reload. I think the quick draw feature is kind of cool, but it doesn't last as long as it should or it takes too long to recharge. The game tried to hard to be different. And I think that hurt it. Because sections seem really easy and there always an obvious pattern to follow. As for the graphics talk about awful. Now, I admit some of the textures were really nice, color choice and detail, but they just looked terrible on those models. And what's the deal with the hats, they all look three sizes too big for the people wearing them.

Perhaps lag was due to the dashboard update that was rolled out?

I think this might have been it. I was getting hit with lag through 3 different games last night with 3 different hosts. When Cory first started up his game I wasn't really getting any lag, then all of a sudden it was going maybe not even a half second off so it wasn't a huge deal at all. Pyrrohonist actually saw the next part where a guy comes at me with a chainsaw I shoot him right in the body full on with a chainsaw and he runs right up to me to kill me. Either the shotgun is that god awful (don't get me started on that) or there had to be some type of lag where he was closer to me then my screen was telling me. Then after that I was getting tagged by grenades from 10 feet away, then the worst was on escalation when I couldn't take cover because the A button was still catching up to where I was running. Seems like as more people signed onto the servers my night was getting increasingly bad.

This is probably just a mix of coast differences and the update. I had never had lag like that up until last night and it's no wonder last night was the first night after the big update was released. Played a game against spanked eagle and I was running against a wall for like 5-10 seconds then I popped back into my suprisingly dead body that was 50 feet away from where I was originally.

Just ridiculous distance doesn't help things either. When Cory was hosting he was dominating, when oaktown hosted me and him (only 2 east coasters I think) suddenly got our mojo back.

Chugga, the grenade tag thing is one of the worst parts of this game. How can a guy grenade tag me and he's not even close enough to actually touch me with the grenade? Shouldn't happen, but it does. I'd still like to know how priority is determined on the chainsaws.

Chugga, the grenade tag thing is one of the worst parts of this game. How can a guy grenade tag me and he's not even close enough to actually touch me with the grenade? Shouldn't happen, but it does. I'd still like to know how priority is determined on the chainsaws.

CJF28, I'll let you have your moment in the sun, but we will keep count next time.

Yeah the grenade thing is awful. But to be honest alot of the times I think it's just lag having me thinking it's awful not the game itself. Cory tagged me from at least a mile or 2 away...maybe a kilometer...last night and was able to tag me. On the same note I was somehow able to roll forward and hit him from that kilometer away.

If cory wants to sacrifice himself for the greater good then thats up to him. But I promise him 99.9999% of the time if he tags me he's going with me. At least I hope, theres nothing better then spoiling his fun by having him roll backwards only into a car or block and basically pull a thelma and louis and let him know he's taking the trip with you.

To me I think the shotguns in the game are 20 times worse then any grenade gameplay elements. As I've said before tonight alone I was hitting people from 50 feet away and having their body split into a million pieces only to shoot someone point blank and needing to unload 3 rounds into them to die. In the canals level I was standing behind a sniper that had no clue I was there and had to get 3 shots off on him before he died despite him never even trying to move out of the way. Sometimes I'll feel like God with a shotgun in my hands and sometimes I'll just feel helpless with one. It's just weird.

oak, pyyro, chugga ,

we should try and throw a challenge out to the toy board

sport boardies VS Toy boardies

By the way if we ever do put this team in action against mods, boardmembers, or otherwise we should get some practice with it first. We generally get split in half.

It's a shame more people couldn't get online tonight....aside from having the greatest game in my life (don't hate the playa....hate the game) I was able to see the terrors of Xbox Live. Aside from the ridiculous amount of racist 12 year olds the thing that really gets me about live is once again the achievement system. Can't tell you how many matches tonight I was stuck with a team full of pistol wielding idiots who needed 50 more pistol kills to get their 20 achievement points.

I've been complaining about this the past few days, as I've tried my hand more than a few times in ranked games. Thankfully, I was able to find some great teams in Assassination, and we all functioned as a team. However, whenever I'd go into an Execution or Warzone game, no one gave a damn about teamwork, and everyone was out to get their chainsaw or grenade tag counts up. Sure, I'd like to have those points added, but I'm not going to be the cause of my team losing by freelancing to get some meaningless gamerscore points.

Sorry bout tonight guys - my connection at school as some weird ass firewall on it where I can only join like 1/4th of the people playing, and I have no idea how to tell who I can join. That, coupled with the fact when Chugga invited me I was absolutely blasted (that was a long ass time ago though) didn't help the situation.

Hope to play with you guys soon - but I'd have to figure out who's connection I could join to do so.

However, I did join just a random Ranked game where I cleaned some clans ass (they were awful), leading the game in kills/revives and points.

The amount of people trying to get stupid ****ing achievements though, jesus.

3 red lights twice yesterday. Followed the support procedure and unplugged everything, plugged everything back in and it was fine for the rest of the day. Today, though, it was freezing about every 30 minutes.
Is it still free to send it to MS for repair if the unit was manufactured in '05 or no? What would the possibility be of exchanging it at the store I bought it from or even another store?

My play tonight was a testiment to how on/off the shotgun can be. Some games I've got peoples body parts flying all over the place other times my point blank blasts aren't even phasing them.

I was actually flipping out one time over the shotgun because I shot a dude like 8 times point blank and he wasn't even phased. Then I realized I was playing on the COG this time and not the Locusts and I turned around to realize the person behind me wasn't my ally like I had thought.

I can't believe the game just ends. No final battle or nothing. After you fight the storm, there is about 20 more small battles, then all of a sudden your at 100% and it stops giving you points.

I'm really on the fence about this game. I guess it has so much potential and EA did give us a lot, I just hope future releases of the game actually have a decent story and more original battles. I'd say my final review is 5/10. Its not crap, but it ain't a buffet either.

Sounds lame Smokis.

I guess when it comes to actually having a story or decent fighting the game does not deliver.

But underneath all that crap, is a really great game engine. I hope EA does something good with it. The city is amazing and bombing around the city is fun and the controls are pretty decent. It just doesn't deliver past that. It needs a plot, better fight engine, and more bad guys.

I really think there is a great game hiding in Metropolis, EA just needs to keep looking for it.

O hyea, crazy **** at my house last night.

Im plyaing on the big screen in my living and someone knocks at the door. before I cnaeven answer it, some old lady walks in and says she needs to use the phone, osmeon has kidnapped her grandchildren. She keeps trying to walk thru my house, and I have to hold her in the foyer. we call 911 and the operator talks to the lady, then me. Tells me the lady sounds unstable, because she doesnt know her adress, or how many grandkids she has. Operator says she will send over a squad car and to keep the lady by the door. and when I say old, I mean like late 80's

As we're waiting for the cops, two guys come walking up in my lawn and see the lady in my doorway.

"Grandma, what are you doing in the peoples house? come on, come home. "

The old lady stares wigging out and screaming as the guy tries to pull her outside. She latches onto my arm and wont let go, screaming "you took my grandkids". The guy kept telling her "Grandma, its me, David. I am your grandkid"

The guy kept apologizing to me, saying she had Alhiemers. A van pulls up and two more people pop out. Finally "David" convinces grandma its time to go. I find out where they live just in case. They just moved in about 3 houses down.

One of the guys from the van waits with me for the cops, while the others take granny home. He tells me how she sneaks out at night, and knocks on neighbors doors for a ride back to Buffalo, NY (Im in washington state). Says he walked past her room, and saw her in bed. Next thing you know, she sneaks out the backdoor, and thru the back gate, and starts walking the streets. The apologize again and I tell them to just go home and Ill send the cops over when they get there, since its like 20 degrees outside.

Suckiest part was, the old lady freaked out my daughter so much, my girl slept with my wife, while I got stuck on the couch.

Scott, you weren't all that bad, man. You picked up a bit as you went. I don't know if Chugga felt bad about standing there a few moments before blowing your head off with that shotgun, but I felt a bit bad about tagging you while I was sneaking up. ;)

And Cory---that story last night was hilarious. :D :D :D

Yeah, I really gotta start looking around more. :o I guess one does lose their reflexes with age. :p

With any luck I can sneak online again tonight.

I feel like I'm neglecting F.E.A.R. The online is not as good as Gears of War, but it makes you feel like you've really been in a firefight. When a shootout is over, the dust particles and smoke make it hard to see anything. It's an intense experience. It's a shame this game came out one week before Gears. That killed it right there. It could've been a much bigger hit if it had came out a month before. It's not like it was anything but a simple PC port.

Has nothing to do with age, I'm just a sneaky player. You'll find out real soon that you've always gotta have either someone watching your flank or you watching it yourself.

The first couple of games at the Masoleum I had a ton of kills from that stuff. Everyone going to one courtyard or one area me going in the completely opposite direction then meeting most people with a shotgun to the back of the head. After a while though everyone figured out where I was coming from.

Alot of teamwork last night so I really enjoyed the games. Some games though I felt like a medic....I was getting a ridiculous amount of revives.

For my fellow Canucks that haven't picked up Gears of War or Call of Duty 3, both games are on sale at Futureshop for $59.99 each plus tax. :)

All right all you xbox gamer folks ... it's that time again. That's right. Silent Samurai's review of a game most of you have long since played. I would say this is more for the casual gamer like me who can't play every single game once they come out. And for this installment I'm reviewing Gun, which I've a lot of people poo poo. :D So read on and enjoy the spoilers.

I actually somewhat enjoyed this game. And I'll breakdown my review into easy categories for your.

1. Story ... decent story. Towards the end it seems to peter out a little. But still a decent story. I think mostly the story suffers from a grandiose sense of itself and the developers desire to try and sink just about every major old west reference into this story. If wasn't for name dropping like Webb, Rudabaugh, Denton ... etc. I'm halfway suprised Wyatt Earp and Billy the Kid didn't get their names dropped. Unless I missed them. Either that or at that poin the story writers felt like they might have gone too far.

2. Acting/Voice acting ... animation acting in games is getting better, but it's certainly never been oscar winning. So, I'll leave it at that. The voice acting though, decent in some parts but very obnoxiously stilted when it came to the indians, which I believe was probably on purpose to give it that romantic western film ... but still, felt odd at times.

3. Animation ... good animation for the most part. The horse running was probably the best animation in the game. But it had it's bad moments as well.

4. Graphics ... let's just admit it. These graphics were awful. Even by xbox standards and especially for the 360. Not a total eyesore, but pretty close at times. Especially when it came to some of those horribly sparce landscapes. However, I did like some of the textures. I thought they were well done. Just not good enough to mask the horrible geometry.

5. Gameplay ... in order to be different the developers put in a wonky control scheme. It's not horrible, because you get used to it after a while. But for the most part, where the look and trigger functions are pretty much intact .. the rest was weird. Especially switching between equipped weapson and mostly the heal, reload, and holster weapon buttons. When I was wanting to reload, at first I kept drinking from the flask and wasting health. I thought the quick draw feature was cool, though it made it a bit easy at times. I thought shooting the weapons was well done too. I think the best part of the game play was the horse riding. That was actually the most solid of the gameplay and a lot of fun just to be running around at times. It's big flaw was when following allies and what not, you either got way behind at just the regular trot or you were racing ahead of them.

6. Map(s) ... I thought the map to the whole west could have been much bigger than it was. It was too quick from going between mountains to the badlands, to the mines to the plains ... just a little small.

7. Side missions ... they were fun. A little easy over all, but also provided for some good laughs. Like when keeping the peace and the mission bar has "Save the *****" ... and when you go after the woman who castrated guys and Alive: has "Not Interested" by it instead of a price. I really kind of liked the Rancher side missions. I thought they were fun. Way too easy and I thought there could have been more, but they were fun.

8. Unlockables/Achievements ... There are 31 achievements and it's pretty easy to get them. So, if you're a hard core gamer that likes a challenge in your achievements, then this game really isn't for you. Insane mode will provide that challenge or a controller throwing fest, who knows. But playing the game on any mode will net you all but the three other game completion achievements that you didn't play the game on. So, if you play it on hard, you have to go back and slog through the game to get easy, normal and insane. Which is pretty lame. You should get the lower point game completion achievements. And the unlockables at the end of the game are lame too. After you beat the game you get his Nock gun. AFTER the game is over when you don't want to just trot around and kill bandits, and you also get Reed's unkillable horse, AFTER all that. Which make the two unlockables pretty much useless.

9. Most Frustrating Controller Throwing Moment ... by and large the mine ambush level. When you're riding on that stupid car with the cannon. It doesn't aim for crap. You have to watch the trajectory of the cannon to find your next shot and by the time you've wasted three shots you're dead because at that point Magruder's Men are crack shots and everything hits you and eats your life faster than you can refill which is also majorly frustrating. To beat that section, get off the cannon shoot the people that you can snipe with your rifle then get on the cannon to do the big stuff. It will make your life hella easier.

And that's my Gun review. Overall, I give it about a 5.5/10 ... it's fun .. but too easy.

Wife snagged me COD3, enjoying it so far.

Its basically COD2 with improvements. A lot more cut scenes which I'm not thrilled about. Graphics are beautiful, sometimes there is so much going on in the game, I have no idea what to look at. Everything is on fire, gernades and bullets flying everywhere, pure chaos.

I'll be able to comment more as I move through the game.

Looking to get some ideas of 360 games to buy that are coming out in the next month or so. I'm not a hardcore gamer so I'm not always aware of what's upcoming. Mostly I like FPS games....basically the only kinds of games I don't care for are pure fighting games (wrestling games, etc.).

Any suggestions?

COD3 online is pretty sweet... 12 on 12 is pretty wild... there are people everywhere.

If you have trouble connecting to the multiplayer check a few pages back and I thin i posted something on connecting your 360... it needs to be set to a static IP for COD3
