It's far better. The original Castlevanias were far too linear. You can actually explore in SOTN and any newer Castlevania.

No, Symphony of the Night was the first game to really let you explore. All the rest pretty much have one path. The exploration in SOTN is kind of like the exploration in Metroid. Too bad they probably won't port over the Sega Saturn version (has an extra character and more places to explore).

Most people wait in the middle because they don't want to be on the Locust side. I don't know what the difference is, but some people refuse to be a Locust.

After that second update yesterday on live, I now can't host games on GoW. Everyone says it is my modem. I get a message saying the verify my firewall, Netgear was no help. Anyone have a idea as to what might be the problem? I can join games, but not host them. HELP!!

i wouldnt. If you havent had any problems with overheating, dont bother. Alot of people are having problems with their systems, and some of it is connected to having the intercooler attached

i haven't really heard anything about GUN except that it was like Red Dead Revolver mixed views really. but 20 bucks is 20 bucks and never a bad price for 60 games.

Agreed. As long as the space containing your 360 is spacious and cool enough for it to function, you should be fine without the cooler. I've also heard about problems with game freezing and slower load times with the coolers but can't confirm it's truth. You usually should be fine with space of your system,I've heard alot people overreacting and complaing about the amount of room the Xbox demands but it's really not that much. Mine is sitting horizontally and doesn't get hot very quickly. The warranty seems to be a valuable thing to have with all the people with "bugged" or broken systems so if you don't have one I wouldn't risk using the cooler. If you buy a third party cooler and not an offical Microsoft Xbox product and the third party cooler damages your system I believe it will invalidate your warranty and Microsoft will not fix it.

Thats because your playing the game....you're not living the game. Oaktowns a freakin vampire, he can't even go outside during the day....he's living the game. I'm an unstoppable warrior...I just walk around all of Cyrodiil waiting for someone to start **** with me. My warrior came to chew bubblegum and kick @$$ and my inventory screen shows that I'm fresh out of bubblegum.

Play the game however you want to....you can literally do anything....don't feel held back by quests...just randomly walk to some middle of nowhere place on the map and kill a bear if you want to.

The reason I asked that question was to see which game I should get today. I was going to get Oblivion but they didnt have it at Target. One thing that scares me about Oblivion is that I didnt care for Morrowind at all. It was almost too open ended for me. I like RPGs though.

If it helps any I actually didn't like Morrowind but Oblivion is one of my favorite games of all time. Like you said Morrowind was entirely too open ended. Don't get me wrong I love open ended games....Oblivion is an open ended game but my main issue with Morrowind was I played that game for like 10-15 hours and I accomplished absolutely nothing and to this day I still have no idea what the hell I was supposed to do to progress in that game. In Oblivion the game is wide open but when you actually do want to accomplish something it's easy to do....doesn't require hours upon hours of traveling and asking people questions only to come up with nothing. You can fast travel and there are waypoint markers for what to do next.

If you are a hardcore RPG nut then Oblivion is a step down from Morrowind...but if you are an RPG fan and just love the games and don't like to spend hours upon hours delivering love letters between 2 people only to realize that did nothing then Oblivion is for you.

Saint's Row isn't a bad backup plan though....that game was amazing

Oh by the way oaktown I'm not sure if you got my messages yesterday but I found a way to cure your vampire problem for like 200 MS points. Also I know you play as a thief and I just finished a quest that is a thieves dream. Got an unbreakable lockpick as the quest reward. You can never level up your lockpicking skill anymore but theres not a chest in the game that will give you problems anymore.

Yeah...I saw your message...I was up until 5am playing GeOW. I'll prolly be downloading the extra quests this weekend....got 4 days off in a row. Only thing is...I kinda don't want to spoil the "extra" quests until I finish the main ones. Remember...I haven't even gotten through the entire "thief" questline. Then after that, I still have the "brotherhood", "vampire", "fighter", "mage" and "arena" questlines....and the main story one. I was kinda hoping to save those downloadables as bonus surprises for when I beat the game as it was originally intended.

Although...the whole "vampire" curse I contracted has got me thinking about taking the one particular downlaod so I can remove it. I like it.... but I hate it at the same time. Being a Kajitt, seeing in the dark, sucking blood, growing fangs, having red eyes, and having my skin slowly deteriorate and turn pale is completely kickazz......but that whole "not being able to go in the sunlight" thing is becoming a tad bit of a nuisance.

Well the one thing about the expansions is they make the main quest easier. Some of the weapons/armor you get from them definately help when those gates open up. I'm actually going to try to close all 60 of the gates that open up so I've got alot of Oblivion playing in front of me. Right now I'm doing the mages guild...after that I'll do dark brotherhood, thieves, fighters, pirates, razor, then Knights.

I tried to get the old man his fish scales, but couldnt figure out how to get the boat off the dock and into the lake.

Yes to both. You can swim back up top and get air....but be careful....cause your enemies don't stop attacking just for you to get air. OR.....you could look into certain spells/ingredients you can eat that allow for underwater breathing and/or walking on water....haven't you ever seen Harry Potter....gillyweed *****...get some gillyweed.

Here's another free tip: your fireball spell will not work too well under water :p

The fish you need to kill stay close to the surface of the water....swim underwater until you can see them, come up for air, then right as you are near them go back under water again and fight.

As for not getting to places in time before they close...the "back" button is your friend....most stores open at 9am, so you can do the math from there.

I haven't played the 2K series since '04. I prefer EA's game. That might be only because I am familiar with EA. I've been playing since NHL '93. I didn't get my Sega until '93, so I only got to play the 1992 issue a few times at a casual friend's place. '93 was my first. I bought EA's game until I finally got fed up and skipped NHL '06. It really pissed me off that you can't have two users in franchise mode, so I decided I'd skip a year to punish them (because, you know EA was really bothered by that). I caved in and made up for it by buying NHL '06 for my boys for Gamecube and then bought NHL '07 for the XBOX for myself, and now for the 360 for myself. I just wish it wasn't so easy to score. That has little to do with skill level, but plenty to do with weak, slow goalies.

see i had the same problem in 2k5 all you had to do was go up either side against the boards cut over to the slot and give a wrister or a one-timer got them almost everytime. what difficulty level do you play at?

i liked the 2k games for football i can't really base my opinion on which was better because i stopped playing madden football like 97 98 somewhere in there because i personally thought same game different year. i liked as you said the 2k series gave them a run for their money and i personally think 2k5 sold better than madden and that is why they bought the rights to the game. and the only reason 2k bought baseball was to get them back for taking football. i personally didn't like the 2k baseball because easy was to easy and difficult was to difficult i was either winning by a mile or losing by a mile i couldn't find a happy medium where it made the game a challenge but not impossible.

Just one piece of advice for you...be patient with the game. Theres alot to learn but more importantly as you play through you'll notice you are fighting rats, crabs, and wolves ALOT. That fades with time but for the most part when you start up thats just how it is.

Just last night I came across stuff I had never seen before in my life (most notably a giant hulk lookalike that was made of ice and kept hulk smashing me) and oaktown found a giant slaughterfish that killed him in 2 hits. So cool stuff is out there you just gotta work to see it. Hell while I was fighting a few enemies a Unicorn came up and stabbed me in the back with it's horn (supposedly the ONLY unicorn found in the game) if thats any testiment to how crazy things can get as you level.

CES 2007: Major League Baseball 2K7 Hands-On

January 9, 2007 - One of the few new games on display at this year's Consumer Electronics Show is 2K's Major League Baseball 2K7. Having not played a baseball videogame in years, I was a bit tentative stepping up to the booth to play. I quickly found that the title, although much rebuilt from last year's iteration, played like an old glove.

The first thing you'll notice when you get your hands on MLB 2K7 is the visuals. The players look and move realistically, straight down to their jerseys and caps. The first section of a game I played had some high winds which caused the jerseys to ripple realistically as the batter waited for the pitch. Although it may have been a bit overdone in the high winds, this was some of the most true to life cloth motion I've seen around.

Next I decided to quit out of the game that had been left in mid progress for us and have a go at a nice Bay Bridge game; Oakland against San Francisco. The Giants may have Barry Zito now, but the A's will always have my heart. I started off the inning pitching and found the Payoff Pitch and aiming system similar to last year's iteration. With Rich Harden, my power pitching was dominant over the first two batters. Then I hung a slider just to see what would happen. The score was shortly 1-0 against. Ouch.

After retiring the next batter, it was time to bat. The swing is still mapped to the right analog stick, which takes a little bit of time to get used to if you haven't done it before. I hadn't. Needless to say, I wasn't doing much offensively. I did get to see, and easily recognize, a few of my favorite Oakland players. Jason Kendall, for example, leans over the plate begging for a free pass to first base, just like he does in real life.

Like all baseball games, it takes several games of play before you can tell just how well the AI and physics work, which we obviously didn't have time for as people breathed down my neck on the show floor waiting for a turn. Whether this will be a true next-gen baseball experience or not remains to be seen, but our initial impression is a good one.

didnt play the demoo.....i think the movement is ok but the graphics are OUT OF THIS WORLD..by far nicest ones yet...the base of the game is kind of wierd ....the creatures you fight are kool...a few different guns so far.....ive had fun been playing for about 3 hours .....ONE SUCKY THING IS NO CO-OP ....:(

yea solid it is....the grappling is ok not a big fan cause sometimes its a pain to do

Aside from people actually having conversations inbetween the press release information from the looks of it nothing has changed. Would you rather just have this thread be pages and pages of press releases and no one talking about anything?

People are still posting screen shots, posting info on games, helping other people through games, hooking up for online play....what else would you want this thread to be?

I shoot them with the machine gun. I've never found more than 2 or 3 per mission yet. Guess I need to search around more.

Burnout is the best arcade racing out right now

The 2 need for speeds are both more about running from cops and customizing your car then they are about racing but still 2 fun games. MotoGP is too realistic for me and Full Auto is ok but more about combat

Depends on if you like arcade or sim....PGR3 and Burnout are both great choices. I don't know if I'd call either a "must have" though.

well, last night I was up from about midnight EST and right around 3:30 EST pyrrhonist hits me up for some Gears. We tried like hell to get oaktown away from Oblivion but figured he found a new special herb outside the gates and could tear himself away ;)

anyway, Chugga and Scott, I think it was like an hour or so after you guys signed off. I wanted to throw an invite on the board but no one could get to a computer. Instead we ended up w/ a few games of 2 on 1. pyrrhonist either has great aim w/ the sniper rifle or I have a big head ;)

Go to a chest thats sitting somewhere you will remember...stash all the items you don't want to lose in the chest...serve your time...run back and get your items.

Of course....make sure you create a saved file right before putting the stuff in the chest......just on the off chance that it won't be there when you get out of jail. But I'm 99% sure it will still be there after jail time.

Depending on your character type...thief...assassin...fighter .....mage.....you should join the corresponding guild first....and get some levels under your belt before starting the main quest.

I agree.....I went to jail in the very begining so that I could invited into the thieves guild...but since then...I've tried to stay out as best I can. Although now I'm suffering from the "no one will talk to me because I scare the ***** out of them because I'm a full vampire now". I can't even sell stolen items to my "fences"....they're too scared I'm gonna bite them.

Come on pyrrhonist peer pressure only works when your 16...and 17...18 too probably....mainly from 15-22 but we're all past that. Personally for me Gears of War is always option #2 so I'm not going to pressure you into having to sign into Gears...I'd much rather close shut the jaws of Oblivion.

Sorry about that, the minute I saw someone join the room named "snipa" I felt the need to take off his head as many times as possible. And luckily I did I caught him like 10 times to his catching me twice. Caught him so many times in a row that snipa stopped picking up the snipa rifle. But anyways I just wanted to see how good he was. I don't know how it happened but on a number of occassions me and you were the last ones left in the game.

Sorry about that, the minute I saw someone join the room named "snipa" I felt the need to take off his head as many times as possible. And luckily I did I caught him like 10 times to his catching me twice. Caught him so many times in a row that snipa stopped picking up the snipa rifle. lol. Ya, After I typed that. I looked at the 360 controller bp. And noticed the difference on the packs. The quick charge kit came with a battery pack I just didnt start charging that till now. I think I am going to pick up another battery pack like you were talking about, so I never to go without a charged battery pack. :D

Yeah, I've got a bunch of them already. The quick charge kit is better than the plug and play IMO and it charges in like 2-3 hours tops. Microsoft sure knows how to make their accessories efficient.

It's basically GTA, but your a cop and you have cool powers and stuff. Like you can jump really high. It's supposedly really fun and it comes with the Halo 3 beta code or something in all pre orders I guess.

from what i have heard about 2 is that it (story) was a little bit of a let down and when the only reason people tell me to play the game is because the online it doesn't make me want to play it any more or less than before.

What is the deal with picking locks? Is there some technique? This might be a silly question, but every lock I try and pick that isn't easy level just shreds my picks.

It is all about hitting at when the little lock thing is at the top. Of course I love my unlocking spell too bad I only have one that works for easy and very easy locks. It makes things a lot easier. If you are having a lot of trouble you might want to try to auto attempt after you break a few so you dont go through all your lock picks.

Unless security is one of your primary 7 skills then just keep auto-unlocking then when you hit level 10 go do the skeleton key quest. (by far and away the most useful quest in the entire game....by far). The skeleton key is an unbreakable lockpick. When you finally get the skeleton key you can just keep hitting auto-unlock as many times as you want (sometimes on hard locks I'll hit it up to 50 times" and never even break/waste 1 lockpick. With a little mashing of the x button there isn't a chest/door in the entire game I can't open.

I'm back up and running again, got my replacement unit yesterday afternoon from the UPS driver (who my dog tried to go on deliveries with when he got out the door - he followed him back to the truck like they were best buddies and I had to go chase him in the snow in my barefeet so that was fun :) )
Anyways, the replacement unit I got looks pretty damn new, manuf. date is 11/17/2006. I didn't get too much of a chance to try it out and make sure it works. I played COD3 for about 30 minutes though and it was just peachy.
Happy to be back playing again. Listening to MajorNelson's podcast this morning I'm pretty excited to give the Crackdown demo a go this week (sounds like demo will be released very soon). Curious to see what will set it apart from GTA and Saint's Row.
