To get Silver Surfer you have to first collect all of the comics in the game then you need to get at least a bronze in every single comic mission. It's more time consuming then anything. The only characters that are actually difficult to finish are the characters that blow to begin with...mainly Storm (her attacks are garbage), Elektra, and Blade. Blade doesn't suck that much his level just doesn't have respawns, so you've gotta be quick and efficient.

Either I've already played them as a kid or the ones I haven't played as a kid are especially designed for those with ADD because the game itself has the staying power of an ice cube in the middle of a desert. We all know how well Ninja Turtles and Gauntlet went. "chugga you gotta get Gauntlet, me and cory are playing it all the time, it's awesome, it's like the old days"....to date we've played it once, which is tied for first place with TMNT.

ok...history is NOT on my side with this one...I agree...we get carried away with the "greatest game ever" tag we apply to each and every new Live game that comes out. Actually...not "we", you know who...but he will remain nameless at this point in time, Mr. "I've got 8,952 Microsoft points to spend".

I'll be the first to admit....I've regreted purchasing - SFII, Mortal Kombat, Pac-Man, Castlevania, TMNT 89, Gauntlet, and a few others that were about as memorable as the STDs you contracted in middle school playing the "lipstick rainbow" game. But......Heavy Weapon is right up there with UNO as one of the Live games you must own.

And no...Heavy Weapon is not THE way to go...it is A way to go. You're not an elite hunter. Nothing else matters Mr. "I have 24,000 points of the easiest, cheesiest ahievements there are."

I know this is the 360 Only thread, but I have a tale for you all:



I was super, super, super bummed about the letdown with 360/HD-DVD non 1080p-ness last night, so my wife literally pulled a fast one on me.

Occassionally we'll go on late night Wally-World runs - boredom, groceries, a movie here and there, insomnia, etcetera.

She'd probably laugh if she knew I told you guys this, but I was watching our new tv and she had gone online to look up info about VGA/1080p for 360 after I got ticked off. She comes in the bedroom and says, "come on, let's go to Wally World to get our minds off XBOX for awhile. Besides, we need bread and some veggies for dinner tomorrow."

I was all for it and we drove to our nearest WM. About a minute before we got to the store, my wife moaned softly and said she felt like Taco Bell (our dinner the night before) was "catching up with" her. She asked me to pull up to the door of WM and let her out so she could go to the bathroom, and then I went and parked the car after letting her off.

I collect action figures, so she told me as she jumped out (she's 5 foot nothin') that she'd meet me on the toy aisle when she was done.

After parking the truck and getting into the store, less than 2 minutes later I get a call on my cell. It's the wife, telling me that she still didn't feel good and went outside to get some air. I told her I'd be right there and we'd go home.

Mind you, her voice sounded like she'd been stabbed with a prison shank, so I got a little worried as I briskly left WM. I got out to the vehicle and she was standing on the passenger side (I had the keys) waiting for me to get out there. She said, "the air's helping a little, but let's forget about the groceries and go home. I'll get them tomorrow."

I said, "that's fine, you ok?" She said, "Yeah, stomach's just not feeling good right now."

So I open her door and close her in the car and walk back around to the driver's side to almost kick over a 60GB PS3 w/ Casino Royale BR & COD3 sitting on top of it!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::D:D:D:D:D:):):):):):cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:


After I flipped out and collected myself, she told me she felt bad that I was disappointed with the XBOX 1080p fiasco, and that she knew I had wanted a PS3 anyway. "Plus, whoever wins the new DVD format biz won't matter, because now you have both."

Amazingly enough, I ordered a pair of HDMI cables on Monday for HD satellite and AppleTV (decided to wait for the second version), so I used one to hook up PS3 to the new teeve.

Far and away the EASIEST setup of an electronic device I have ever witnessed. I plugged in HDMI cord, plugged in the power, turned it on, pushed 'YES' a couple of times, and was watching James Bond in the highest of high def in les than five minutes! HDMI kicks ass!

Back to 360 talk: I just discovered Worms a few days ago and I think it's a blast. I've never played it before on any system. I guess there is an update coming soon for that which will fix the time it takes for the AI to plan it's move and their frustratingly awesome ability to project a grenade exactly where it should go.

The picture quality is amazing in 1080p - I rented Resistance yesterday and the game looks great in 720p (max resolution), but I am getting kind of tired of ducking constantly. Still pretty fun, though. I also rented Motorstorm, but the console showed a message saying I needed to download a system update before I could play the game:rolleyes: I'll do that this weekend.

A better internet connection... you're probably getting a bottleneck.

I'm not sure how much a new router would help.

I use a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router With SpeedBooster (WRT54GS-CA)... I have the 360, a wireless desktop, 2 wireless laptops and a wired desktop that connect to it (not all at the same time). So yes, you can use wired or wireless.

Absolutely! It's a blast. It's a Top 5 on my list of 360 games for sure. It's not as much a kids game as you would think - as a matter of fact I would say it gets way too hairy at times, so much going on, that a child under 10 would struggle with this title.

Nope, currently no solution except to purchase the Elite in the hopes that it will work with the Sony TV throught the HDMI cable since Sony TVs do not support VGA.

I don't have the TV yet but I am getting the KDL-52XBR2. The same TV as you with the exception of the size.

I have had the HDDVD drive since day 1 and the system approximatly a couple months before that.

I know it has had trouble loading some combo discs (Superman Returns was the first one)...it would take two or three "Open" and "Close" attempts before it read it.

Today I was watching an SDDVD and it froze. I turned the 360 off and back on and it seemed to work ok...but I didnt go back to the flick. Tonight I put in "Tales From The Crypt" (Love that show) and it again froze...but this time when trying to turn the system back on I got the three red lights!

Luckily I have a Best Buy warrenty...and if the system crapped out...Ill simply wait a month and upgrade to the Elite which is funny because I have been talking about trying to get my 360 to overheat around the end of April and to top it off I just preordered Guitar Hero about 3 hours ago. If it is in fact the drive...I dont know what I will do considering its probably out of warrenty. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/images/smilies/frown.gif Maybe Walmart will do a no reciept exchange on it...

I think your impending tv purchase may be able to handle VGA ("RGB" on the back of the tv itself). I heard that 52" + screen size supports 1080p via VGA. Don't know why the screen size has anything to do with it, but apparently that's how the world works.

I absolutely bought the 360 UEFA Champions League game. It's really good, a decent improvement from FIFA '07 but it's still very similar. It's slowed down a bit from '07 and the keepers play better positionally so it's not the goalfest that FIFA '07 is, which is a good thing. The Ultimate Team thing is absolutely brilliant - it's so fun to buy packs of cards and build your team or fill up your album just like the Panini sticker albums.

Champions League is definately a notable improvement over FIFA 07. I think I'm going to hold off until 08 when the engine is perfected even further, but its definately worth trying out.

so i finally threw in a dvd into my 360 lastnight and i have the vga cables hooked up. I wanted to see if i could tell the difference with the upconvertion on my lcd tv... holy crap is there ever... my gf wanted to see Boondock saints... i mostly have copied dvds so the quality right off the bat is lower then a regular dvd...

we have a 46" lcd tv and the upconvertion on dvds with the 360 is amazing... i felt like i was watching a movie on one of my HD cable channels... ive been watching all our dvds with my regular dvd play and is there ever big difference... the vga cables were totally worth the $40 i spent on them a few weeks back.... i would def suggest picking em up if you're to cheap(like me) to spring for the HDdvd addon

sonofa*****....you wouldn't believe it. Reading the achievement...it said without using a nuke or "reinforcements"......I took "reinforcements" as "continue game"......I didn't realize it meant one life only...you cannot even die once. I got all the way to level 14 without ever having to continue...I think I died one time around level 8 before finally having the game end at lvl 14. I was so pissed when it didn't give me the achievement.

The bosses in BB were cake...I mowed through them in no time ;)

Nope, currently no solution except to purchase the Elite in the hopes that it will work with the Sony TV throught the HDMI cable since Sony TVs do not support VGA.

I don't have the TV yet but I am getting the KDL-52XBR2. The same TV as you with the exception of the size.

It's been confirmed that at least the KDL 40V2500, 46v, and both XBRs allow 1080p through VGA.

Microsoft tweaks Warranty/Repair service

Microsoft has been busy adding some enhancements to it’s Xbox 360 Customer Service policies. There have been some changes to the Xbox 360 warranty and there’s a new program for game disc swap outs on Microsoft Game Studio’s published titles.

The changes to the Xbox 360 warranty are for the better. If you remember, late last year Microsoft decided to extend the 90 day warranty to one year which matches what the Xbox Classic came with back in the day. One of the new changes has to do with shipping, which will now be free shipping to and from Microsoft on Xbox 360’s sent in for repair no matter if they’re still in warranty or not. The shipping process remains the same, Microsoft will send you a coffin with appropriate postage attached to the box. You send the system to them, they stick a refurbished one in your box and send it back.

One of the other changes only affects in-warranty repairs. Microsoft will give you 90 days warranty on the refurbished console. If your original warranty is longer than that, it’s not an extension and the extra 90 days won’t really make a difference to you. But if your warranty was about to expire, you will benefit from having the extra time added.

Non-warranty repairs aren’t left out in the cold though. You will have to pay the repair costs on your system, but the repaired / refurbished one that you get back will come with a brand new 1 year warranty !

Microsoft is also trying to speed up turn around on broken consoles, their goal is to have your repaired / refurbished Xbox 360 on it’s way back to you within five days.

Another new program just launched by Microsoft is the Disc Replacement Program. If your game disc becomes defective for any reason, Microsoft will swap it out for you as long as it’s a Microsoft Game Studio’s published title. Microsoft has a new page on xbox.com dedicated to this program complete with a replacement form to fill out and the terms and conditions.

then this is actually the perfect time to send it in. Since you aren't fiending to play everyday you won't miss it, but it will be back when the bug hits you again (and it will :)) and then you can join back in on R6V, GH or whatever else tickles your fancy

At long, long last, I made "the call". My return box should be here in 3-5 business days. I decided to give my system an extended break, but, upon trying to play it earlier, it gave me the multilingual "insert this disc in an Xbox360" message with Oblivion (again), and PDZ locked up both with and without the HD attached. I figured it to be my DVD drive, and they diagnosed it as such. I just hope it's as easy as replacing the drive, so I don't have to worry about the whole DLC thing (And so it comes back quickly).

The mode is called Annex and sounds similar to a King of the Hill style of play where the task is to "Capture and hold key locations to collect enough points to win the round."

A Microsoft spokesperson sent us this word about the release and subsequent removal of the page. "Earlier this afternoon, we prematurely posted news on the upcoming title update for "Gears of War," which will contain an exciting new multiplayer mode called "Annex." While we can confirm that the information provided about "Annex" is correct, the release date of April 9 is not final and remains TBD.

Here is what the page detailed prior to removal. A round is won in Annex by winning and maintaining control over specific map locations. The objective points are based on weapon spawn locations and will be active one at a time. Points are awarded each second that a team controls one of the objectives with a maximum of 60 points to be split between the two teams for each point. Once an objective has been drained, the next is selected at random.

Winning scores can be adjusted by the players with a minimum of 120 and a maximum of 480. First one to reach the score wins, regardless of the number of kills either team accumulates. Respawns are set to infinite, but they come in waves every 15 seconds rather than being based on when a particular player dies.

The amount of player customization goes further than the winning score. Adjustable options include:

# Selected Map: Which map or series of maps to use.
# Number of Rounds: Number of rounds required to win the match.
# Bleed-out Duration: Amount of time before a player dies while DBNO.
# Round Score: Number of points required to win a round.
# Friendly Fire: In a player match, whether teammates can damage each other.
# Private Slots: In a player match, number of player slots reserved for friend invites.
# Weapons Swapped: In a player match, whether the person who sets up the match can determine whether weapons that appear in the maps are replaced or removed.

If you saw what it looks like when I try to play Kameo you would know what I mean. There is just a bunch of colored lines all over the screen. Although the map still works.

I am playing back to playing KOTOR. I am kind of bored with the 360 games I have at the moment. Plus I am reading the Darth Bane book and it talks about Darth Revan so it made me want to play the game again.

I think you should make the call, man. Don't procrastinate, like I did. Just call them, give them all the symptoms you know about, and tell them what different things you've done to reproduce them (Trying different discs, trying with & w/o the HD, etc), and they'll let you know. Surprisingly, the guy who I talked with didn't try and put me through remedial troubleshooting. I was shocked. Now, the bad part is I have to wait, and I could've started this process over a week ago. Such is life! :D

I found what i think to be a glitch for an achievement in MUA. I am on Skrull planet right now and I just battled through the Cityscape area (killing enemies) and I made it to the end and enter an area called Heights of Progess. And for some reason I couldnt figure out that all I had to do was pull a broken statue piece and jump up to the higher level. So I got a little frustrated and I left the "Heights of Progess" area back to the Cityscape. And looked around for a second and choice to head back to the Heights of Process. Well I got the Good Samaritan achievement (20 gamerpoints) for "Completed Skrull Cityscape level without defeating a single enemy". But the things is I did. So all you have to do is after you fight through Cityscape go into Heights of Progess and go back out then back in to Heights of Progess for a free 20 gamerpoints. :D

Blah Shout at the Devil is garbage. In all actuality I'm not a huge fan of the song list for Guitar Hero 2. I liked the first one 10 times better. I think the first one catered to more casual fans and me personally I hate rock music, so at the very least I liked listening to songs that I was familiar with and may have liked before.

Luckily theres nothing really good to buy for a while. Think of it this way, half of the games you "rented" to begin with could likely be beaten within their rental periods anyways. It's not a complete loss.

Hey Chugga, I just started playing Guitar Hero the last few days, and I moved up to "hard" today and I'm getting my ass kicked. Yeah I'm the same way jskrap, I tend to move my hand down to where my index finger is on the red button when I'm pushing the orange button. But, somethings that throws me off and messes me up even on medium tracks after I play hard tracks. Chugga?

With that being said when it comes to playing on hard/expert difficulty it's all about sliding your hand to where it needs to be. Your hand should always be on the buttons where most of the action is taking place. If a song is going....green, green, green-yellow, green, green, green-yellow, orange....then you can get away with leaving your hand on the green-to-blue portion of the guitar and let your pinky extend to hit the occassional orange. On the same note if you are getting a ton of yellow-oranges, or blue-oranges with the occassional green tossed in then you shift your hand down and extend your index finger when needed.

You don't have to be perfect, you are just trying to complete the song to the best of your ability. So just make sure your hand is positioned so like I said your covering most of the action. When you're learning to play on hard never be afraid to say "the hell with those 2 notes". On occassion over-shifting your hand does more harm then it helps. You may hit those 2 pesky blue-oranges, but you've likely just messed the next 4 green-reds.

No joking though I think Guitar Hero 2 is at least twice as hard as the original. So if this is your first time playing the game you kinda got shafted out of a decent learning tool. If you complete the hard difficulty of guitar hero 2 then go back to guitar hero 1 you can get 4-5 stars on most expert songs simple.

How are you liking Champion's League oaktown? If you want to play sometime soon LMK, I found some 48 hour gold memberships lying around.

Honestly.........it's a *****. Scoring is damn near impossible with how fast the defenders close on you. Another thing....is it my controller set up...or is there no longer the "step-over" and "ball fake" and other dibbling moves. I notice the right stick only cuts the ball back...it doesn't do any "moves". I also don't like the fact that there isn't a "tackle" option besides the "sliding one"...well, there is the auto defend....which 7 out of 10 times is gonna be whistled for the foul. Even with those things though....I do like it. It just makes it that when you do score a goal...it's that much more important. I did have a 3-0 victory over Machester City with Larsson putting in one with a diving header and Rooney with two brilliant strikes to the side netting.

Keith, can you compare/contrast the gameplay in the CL game versus the PES/Winning Eleven series? I definitely need to get a new fùtbol game, since I haven't gotten one since the original Xbox's Winning Eleven 8. I've preferred the Konami series' controls for years now, though, since FIFA has been (as most all EA Sports games are) so damn arcade friendly for ages now. :mad: I'm interested in your opinion, and even Ruutu's, since I know he plays a variety of the soccer games, as well.

Well, it's not like the Crue are Led Zeppelin or The Who, but I'll take Neil & the Gang over Warrant any day. The only memorable thing from Cherry Pie was their video for it, and that's not even in GH2.

On this, we agree completely. In fact, when I have recently played any GH for my PS2, I will often pop in the original game, rather than part 2. Even the draw of co-op isn't always strong enough for me to play GH2. Even the addition of the bonus songs in the Xbox360 version doesn't exactly make the track listing stellar.

Have never have played a Winning Eleven title. They never had the licenses...I never tried the game.

And yes...chugga grew up in the 80s with little lightning bolts shaved into his afro singing the Talking Heads' "Burning down the house".

Winning Eleven/PES' gameplay is still far and above the EA offerings. With this latest Champions League game though, I think they're getting there. It's a very small step up from FIFA '07 in gameplay, slowed down just a bit and the keepers are much better so goals are down which is a good thing IMO. The Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 game for 360 was actually my first time playing the Konami game but I was definitely impressed with the gameplay but I was also pretty disappointed in the lack of Premier League licenses, I didn't think it would be a big deal but it really takes a lot away from the game for me. There's also only like six different stadiums which I think is also a real bummer.
That's where EA has really got WE/PES beat and the presentation with this Champions League game is absolutely bang-on awesome. The announcers will chime in with scores from the other games in the group stages that are going on at the same time, stuff like that - authentic sponsors, plenty of stadiums, etc... It's done really, really well.
Also, the new mode, Ultimate Team Mode, is an absolute blast. You basically start out with a team of scrubs and build your way up using packs of trading cards/stickers. The better you play the more points you earn to buy more packs of cards, slowly building your team up. There's tons of other types of cards than just players too like Contract Extension cards, Staff Contract Extension cards, Healing cards, Gameplay cards (ex. Shooting Boost 45min) - it's basically like WE/PES' Master League mode but it's a lot more fun. Bottom line, even though WE/PES plays better and feels a bit more like the real game I would rather play EA's Champions League. I think EA might just get everything right for FIFA '08, can't wait!

Thanks for the extensive review/comparison, Ruutu. I hadn't bought the WE installment on the 360 this year, because I had read in some of the reviews that it actually wasn't much better than WE9, and it actually had less editing options than the past few years. I always edit the players and unis in the editor, and to not have that option would be a travesty. Maybe when my 360 arrives back at my door with the new/fixed DVD drive, I'll rent the CL game. Okay. So I'm cheap and I wanted to get that credits achievement for GHII. So I put on the credits and switch back to ch 3. After what seemed like 5 hours (it really did), I went back to it and it was ending so I kept it on there. At the end of the credits it said "No pitchers were harmed in the making of this game. Yep....there's just something about having the players, teams, stadiums, leagues, etc....that you watch on TV on your screen, in the game you play.

When I score...I like hearing the announcer say "Christiano Ronaldo.....through pass to Rooney........ Rooney unleashes a brilliant strike and it's one-nothing, here at Old Trafford". It gives me the felling that Im playing in the Champions League. Wouldn't be the same with "Player # 6 on Red Team has just scored a goal".

Besides....I seriously doubt the gameplay in the WE series is so much better that it could make up for not having licenses.

That's where you'd be wrong, my friend. Naturally, I must say I can't speak of the next-gen games, but it did make a difference before. Rather than EA's wonderful pass, pass, shoot formula that yielded 7 or 8 goals a game, WE/PES' control gives you non-fake dekes and ball control, as well as a more realistic feel of the game's speed on the pitch.

And regarding your comment about the commentary (You're a Man U fan, eh?), Konami does have most of the real players in the game. And, much like the 2K series, if they had a fake player in their, you could find the real name by editing. It wasn't even hard to do so. I'll take gameplay over presentation any day. :cool:

Yeah, it's pretty funny that they left that in there on the 360 version, but hey, they're a major Champions League sponsor. The only CL sponsor that's missing is Heineken, which is a bit odd since Liverpool still has Carlsberg on their kit, Celtic has Carling, etc..., I'm actually surprised that those are even still shown on an "E" rated game in this country.

I'd like to follow a team that is good enough to qualify for the various cups and tournaments throughout the year...but I don't want to just bandwagon jump onto the best team. It's hard to decide a favorite team when you have absolutely no influences. Although I can say (despite today's loss), ManU is a very exciting team to watch. Christiano Ronaldo could be the best footballer there is right now(if not for Ronaldinho).

Well...as of today...they are still in the lead by 3 points over Chelsea...but of course that could change by next week.

I'm not worried about which league...I know I want to cheer for someone from the EPL....it's the best league to watch IMO....just don't know which team.

I'm not new to soccer, futbol, football, whatever. I still play it now and have played since I was 6. I know the players, mostly from them on the international stage. I know the leagues, the style of play of each (which is the reason I don't like most of the European leagues, besides the Bundesliga...too much diving and they make soccer look weak). The only thing I don't know...is who I want to cheer for yet.

Well I'm an R&B guy at heart. Give me a John Legend cd and I'm good for lifetime. I just casually like rock because I heard it alot as a kid.

I like "classic/soft rock" if you can call it that...oh and definately power ballads. I like Journey, Queen, etc from the original guitar hero I was a huge fan of Infected, Ziggy Stardust, More then a Feeling, Godzilla, etc. I don't like traditional rock music if you can call it that. I don't like when people are yelling at me, or telling me how their parents don't understand them. With that being said Guitar Hero 2 doesn't really feature alot of music that I like. I think they went a more metal route and thats just not me.

I got excited when they announced Guitar Hero 80's edition because of the off chance that maybe just maybe they'll have Journey and Prince in it....that was really the only reason. The slight glimmer of possibility that they might have Seperate Ways or Purple Rain. Speaking of Purple Rain I'm still mad that guitar hero literally has just about every genre of guitar covered other then "soul guitar" or whatever the hell you wanna call it. Whatever you consider Prince (outside of the obvious...awesome). Thats what we need.

I'm kind of in the same boat, it's really hard to decide on a team in the EPL to support. There's so many individual players that are exciting to watch. I've jumped from supporting Arsenal a couple years ago to ManU to Liverpool and now Chelsea. I'm so excited ManU lost today and Chelsea gained a little ground. It could get really interesting. I absolutely hate ManU right now but Cristiano Ronaldo is such a great player, a shoe-in for European Footballer of the Year I would think and it's tough to hate them this week with the crap that went on at the Stadio Olimpico this week, no teams supporters should have been treated that way by such heavy-handed riot police, disgusting, and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Really, there's players I like on most of the EPL clubs: Lampard, Gerrard, Crouch, Pedersen, Hahnemann, Berbatov, - I could go on and on. Chelsea sure make it exciting though, on the edge of your seat, nail-biting exciting. I was just in England a month ago and visited the Emirates, Stamford Bridge and Anfield, just some amazing sights to see.

The new GOW update is pretty cool, they took out the glitches that I tried so far.. and the new game mode is pretty cool, but the bad thing is spawn killing... You heard it hear first folks!!! You are going to get idiots that will block the spawn areas.

Sounds great. I actually liked the Ghost Recon idea of spawning, where you had a huge number of chosen spawn points to use. You could scroll through a large number of spawn points before settling on one, and then you had your minor window of invincibility to keep you safe.

Wow, so Gears of War's new mode and patch made the game even more intolerable? Talk about a fall from grace. It's not like I can try it out for a week+ (Since my system isn't back yet), but I get the feeling now that I really should have sold it while the iron was "hot".
