X-Box 360 (If you Have it only)

The Halo 3 time was fun last night, guys....until we got split up. Some of those guys who we partied up with that ended up on the team with me, KillaB and his friend were horrible---they betrayed a few of us while defending territories. :mad:

All in all, though, a fun night. I'll be far more pleased when the final product hits, though, and the custom games are available. Of course, the plasma sword will be back, though, so maybe not (Even though Bungie supposedly has wisened up and finally given it an energy supply, like in Halo 2's campaign). Once the game arrives, though, I'll spend my initial energy on playing through the campaign in co-op, which is more fun for me than any versus modes (that goes for any game).


And I believe Mass Effect comes out at the end of this month. :D

The current ship date is 9/3/07, Scott...and Bioware doesn't even seem totally convincing that they'll even make that....sadly. :(

Bioware is one of the kings of RPGs, along with Bethesda. I think the Elder Scrolls series, Neverwinter Nights, and KOTOR games are some of the best RPGs there are. :cool:

I am not sure if you are talking about that guy with the A name, but I found him to be kind of a cheap player. He would just spawn camp. When we were split up he would just stand on the bridge and snipe pretty much everyone as the spawned. I believe I saw him with a turret gun down at the spawn area when I was on his team once as well. I guess that is what you have to do to be a high levels, but I just cant bring myself to play like that.

The addition of Annex peeked my interest for a little while...but now we're back to the same game, same people hosting, same "shotgun" tactics, same results.

The game itself is awesome. The multiplayer function is garbage. I've played 32V32 battles on PC games before and never experienced some of the horseshlt lag crap that happens in a game of 4v4 in gears. And seeing as how the only time I put it in my 360 is for multiplayer, I might as well sell it.

Yeah it gets kinda boring after a while....theres only so many ways you can run at a person with a shotgun and have fun with it. I'm not going to sell the game (just in case I get an urge one of these days) but the game has certainly run it's course for me. It's not so much the host problem that annoys me or the reliance on one weapon for me at least it's the amount of game modes. Lets be real here, no one plays assassination...they just don't. Warzone and Execution are the same freakin game minus how close you have to be to the person to kill them and when everyone uses shotguns whats the difference? Annex like you said was cool for a while but quickly ran it's course.

They just need more game modes. Stuff like assault, ctf, etc. More team objective based games so that things don't bastardize themselves back into just everyone turning into rambo and gunning. You got the lag spot on though....I used to play Battlefield2 on the PC all the time and that game had freakin 32 vs. 32 and I never in my life ran into a host rifle or anything like that.

I think GoW really ran it's course on me after Halo3 gave me a bit of a taste of awesomeness. It's not often you get one bomb or CTF but when you do you clearly see thats what makes the game shine. Right now I'm just patiently waiting for that game to get released to get me excited for Xbox Live multiplayer again.

Yeah but the difference with PC games is that you are play on a dedicated server. Where as on Live you are playing from someones xbox. It is all up to the persons connection that you are connected to and yours. Where as odds are the server you choose to connect when you play a PC game will have a good download/upload speed to handle all those connections.

Blasphemy! The PC has "true" RPGs, too. Actually, if you like any of the Elder Scrolls games (Tribunal, Blood Moon, Morrowind, Oblivion), then you actually do. ;)

That sucks. I wondered how he was getting so many damn kills in each game. In one game, he had like 27 kills, and I was #2 on the team, with 8 or 9. Huge difference. In the big slayer battle, I was near the other team's base for about a total of 2 minutes, then I trekked back across near that turret, because the one guy on the other team just camped at the turret. I'll be sure to tell KillaB his buddy (his brother is someone else) is a cheap player. :D


And Keith---

Another one falls from Gears grace! I think you make the 3rd of us that used to play nightly to drop the game. I know Tat did, and I did, too. It's sad, considering how much we all used to play, but these things happen. The game, even with the limited modes, would be a fun game to play still if it wasn't for running through 1 person as host. There should always be a central server, no doubt. For shame, Epic! :mad:

1. unplug everything, then plug it all back in again.

I don't quite understand this game. Aren't there only like 200 players in the game? What are there like 4 or 5 teams to use? Personally without a Franchise or a Dynasty mode I get bored with football games quickly.

I think I'll stick to NCAA to hold me over till Madden.

There will be a season mode...but thats it. Basically from what I understand (I could be wrong) you start up a season with a draft....(I don't know how many teams in the league there are maybe 16 or so) and you are given a pool of like 1000 players to draft from. Legends obviously go first then you fill the rest of your team with randomly generated scrubs. Then the whole point of the game is to see how legends from different eras would stand up against each other. It's a cool concept but could get ridiculously boring really really fast.

Well...my 360 is REAL boring from now until July 11. I went and traded in R6V, SC:DA, & NCAA Football 07 for credit towards NCAA Football 08. I previously traded in Superman: Returns, X-men III, & PDZ for store credit. Now all I have left is M:UA & Tiger Wood 07. I am picking up the wi fi adapter just because its easier for me to use that then trying to run a wire from one side of the house, down a floor, to the opposite side of the house. So my question is does any one have experience with the wi fi adapter? is it worth it?

Also how do I go about using Live? does it come free when i hook up to the internet? is there like a lower level Live and then I upgrade to gold or something?

Yep! Oh well, I'm still only at a Level 3--Sergeant. Come 9/25, though, I'll more concerned with co-op on the campaign (Please, I hope the 4-player online co-op is true!!) than the versus. I look forward to it!

For LIVE...there are 2 versions..Silver/Gold.

Silver is free...and will allow you to download crap from the marketplace, send messages, chat, and allows you to play LIVE ARCADE (Pac-Man, etc) games

Gold is like $50/year....and will do everything Silver does AND allows you to play online with retail games (gears of war, etc)

It was 2v2...avs and xxsocxx aginst me and someguy on high ground with shotty/snipers.

Not once, but twice, I see xxsocxx running around...so I chased him down from behind...he had no idea I was there...Blam shotgun to the back from 3 feet away....Blam shotgun to the back from 2 feet away....he turns around...BLAM shotgun to his face.......he finally gets off a shotgun shot...Blam..Im dead. It happened twice in the same match.

if by wi fi adapter you mean wirless network adapter, i can sell you mine for less than retail....i only had it for about a month until i moved. now i have my 360 hooked up directly from the modem since i dont have a wireless router.

when i did have it on....it was just as if it was hooked up to the modem except obviously without the long wire running to the 360. no drop in connection.

I agree, no drop in connection. However, there have been cases of the wireless adapter being linked to your router not allowing your NAT settings to be "open" and showing as "strict" or "moderate" instead.

P.S. Assassin's Creed has an official launch "period" of November. That's as close to being nailed down as Ubisoft has gotten so far...

I use the wifi... it seems to work well enough and there's generally little complaining when I host a match (no more than usual anyways).

The only thing I had to do to get mine to work was switch it from WPA2 to WPA.

Primebane- what do you mean WPA2 and WPA? that an Xbox setting or on your wireless router?

That's your wireless router encryption setting. You can generally choose from WEP, WPA and WPA2. So when you go to the control panel on your 360 you'll selection whatever encryption you're using as well as the key you use.

WEP can be cracked in 5 minutes with software found on the web. WPA is much better. WPA2 is the best, but I don't believe the 360 supports it just yet.

Who is xxsocxx's? But ya you are right I remember that. I can see the shotguns being just like Gears. I could just hear you say "You've got to be ********** kidding me" that one time I just turned around and Bam you were dead. :D

I kind of had the same thing, I was running behind someguy then when I was right behind him I melee him so it should have been an assasinaiton, but no. Then bam dead in one shotgun shot. I am not a big fan of the sniper/shottie matches or the only rocket launcher matches. Although you have to admit that it was pretty even matches when we were 2v2. I consider that sniper shottie match a tie. We won because I killed someguy first but he killed me right as soon as it said game over.

One thing I am not kind of liking about Forza 2 is that pretty much all the races seem to be on the short versions of the tracks. I would rather do 3-4 laps on the normal layout than 7-8 laps on the short versions.

Don't get me wrong, i really enjoy the game, but not enough real racing for my tastes.

That's why I can't wait for NASCAR '08.

I wish EA or anyone for that matter, would get back to releasing an F1 game for the 360.

See I would call this more real racing than nascar. For sure during the Factory Spec races. You normally start pretty deep in the field and have to work your ass off to win since all the cars are the same.

See I would call this more real racing than nascar. For sure during the Factory Spec races. You normally start pretty deep in the field and have to work your ass off to win since all the cars are the same.

Just to play devil's advocate here, I'm not a big fan of racing 200 laps where one wreck means I will not win. The chances of me wrecking once in a 200 lap race are....well...100%.

Also...wasn't there an F1 game out for the 360? I thought I saw one at blockbuster..........maybe it was just for the old Xbox.

I gave shadowrun a try last night...that game is friggin crazy. Cool concept...but there might just be WAY TOO much shlt going on at one time for me to wanna play. The demo is definitely worht a DL if any of you are on the fence about it. Hell...you can play 10 round "bot" matches all you want...and you can set the difficulty to like 6 diff levels. I'm not sure. I did notice...during the game "boot up" process, you have "Party" options, and can open up your friends list. Now whether or not it will actually allow you to join my party in the demo, I'm not sure. But that would be cool, have like 4-5 of us on one team...and set the bots to the highest difficulty. it will be like Halo3 all over again with us getting our asses handed to us. LOL....I have a hard time taking on the "training" level bots and they are the lowest ones. As soon as I kill one of them....one of their partners is teleporting in, ressurrecting him, and then its 2 on 1 :mad:

Just one thing to remember, the demo has only 1/2-2/3rds of the stuff in the game. There are 4 races, all very unique. And 9 maps. And more everything than what's in the demo.

I've heard too many people play the demo and say "not enough weapons, races, and maps" and wanted to slap them.

I like sending those little bastards to maim the sheep :D They say some pretty comical stuff too. It's like a kids game....for grown ups. If that makes any sense. It's cartoony, comical, goofy. But it's also pretty dark and violent.

The story isn't anything special. I loved the game and had like a 2 month long addiction to it, but when it's all said and done it wasn't the best RPG I've played. The ending was just such a huge disappointment for me...the game really loses alot of it's luster when you realize the vast majority of the big battles in the game can just be ran right through to the next door/checkpoint.

I'm not gonna knock the game....as far as a console RPG...i think it's the best there's been. The game is so vast and expansive....and there are so many possibilities with your character. You were the noble, "knight in shining armor" type....yet, I was the cloaked, vampire, tiger person, who could shoot a bow better then Robin Hood. I couldn't even play the game the same way as you did. You could run through chopping people with your axe...if i tried that strategy...I'd die instantly. It really was a great game. I just think after 150 hours of playing it....no matter how great it is...I'm burnt out.

Above the Final Fantasy games - yes....and here's why.

Great visuals. The cut scenes look incredible. But I can't play during those cinematic cut-scenes. And how may times before you get bored of seeing you unleash your "super-power". The combat system is terrible. *attack.......*heal........*attack........*attack......*heal......

Come on. Final Fantasy has a beatiful package....it's the gameplay that is severly lacking for me.

Now onto KOTOR. This game had cool features and the combat system, while stiff, wasn't as bad as FF games. However, what if I wanted to just randomly run around a planet and fight cool Star Wars monsters.....guess what...I couldn't. Sure they gave you a couple "paths" during the linear play...but it was still just that...linear. To me a true RPG means I can do what I want, when I want, where I want. Oblivion offers that...FF and Kotor does not. So to me....Oblivion > FF/KOTOR

Hmmm, what to do. I have the Halo 3 Legendary edition on preorder, but from the sounds of things, I think I may want the Collector's Edition more. Cue lame ass in me, but I'd rathr have an art book and metal packaging then a helmet and a bonus disk with crap I'll watch once and never look at again.

Non Linear isn't always better then Linear. Especially in Oblivions case...the game is flat out amazing, you'll spend 70 hours playing that game without even realizing it. The payoff is awful. The payoff for the time you spent in Cyrodiil is so god awful I don't even know what to say about it. The ending is crap, you don't even fight the final boss battle, the vast majority of the invasion is skipped over by simply entering the next area, for being such a huge expansive game they didn't know how to match the story to it. Alot of times when I complete an RPG I'll put down the controller, sit back and say "man that was a ride"...finishing Oblivion I was like "ehh so what do I do now". The final boss battle is a crappy real time movie that goes on for 2 seconds, and me calling it a "movie" is being nice, it's really just a 5 second long moment in the game where you don't have control over your character, and after this part is done you're spawned right back where you were for the most part realizing "oh the games over".

The weird thing is, is the game does so many things great that the ending just was such a huge failure. I mean when you first go to Kvatch thats just absolutely impressive, the most impressive thing I had seen on the 360 at the time. But the end it's like "ehh, lets just get this over with".

To me I'll always take a game with a good story over a game that lets me do whatever I want and gives me nothing in return. I mean you praise Oblivion for being this awesome non-linear game that lets you do whatever you want but you haven't beat it yet and chances are never will beat it for the exact reason you praise it for....it's not linear, it's so damn wide open that it's almost a hinderance to the game. You put in 50+ hours of stealing and killing but you really have no idea what the hell is going on because you've only advanced the story maybe 50% of the way.

But that's what great about it. I CHOSE to put in 50+ hours stealing and killing and becoming a Vampire. While you, the ever vigilent "Hero" marched right through the story trying to save Cyrodill. I could care less about saving Cyrodill...I wanted gold and blood. Isn't that what an RPG is all about?????

I don't want my RPG to direct me in a certain way....and then when I try to differ from that path...they stop me. Like in KOTOR.....oops....can't go that way...you haven't received the keycard yet. Go and get the keycard...now you can go through the door...but it's gonna kick off a boss battle and then after that you're back on your ship heading to the next planet.

But what if I wanted to explore the dune sea...and fight Tusken Raiders??? Too bad, once you kill the 5 creatures we put out there...no more will ever spawn for you to fight.

Well...Oblivion has a quest line (several, in fact) that you can follow, should you choose to.

And I think Oblivion has some great stories...especially when you start the guild quests.

ANnways...it doesn't bother me in the least if some of you hate Oblivion or don't think it's the best RPG ever. Different strokes for different folks. No biggie. Personally....I don't see why all the hype over Halo...but some would swear their soul on it.

I understand your point but this is just one of those times we'll have to disagree. The customization was amazing, the fact that you could be one guy and I could be another was amazing, I'm not going to deny that at all but at the end of the day if the character I was able to create gets a lackluster story thrown in front of him it's going to hurt my chances of saying it's a "classic" game. Now don't get me wrong I'm definately being alot harder on Oblivion then I should be. I loved the game, it was easily in my top 20 games of all time....likely bordering close to the top 10. But for everything it did right it could have been so much more.

Where-as Knight of the Old Republic was linear and made me go through 1 particular path that path's story was so well told that I never felt the need to go somewhere else. There was never a time I was like "hmm I'd like to go back to that planet again just to say hello"....nah man I wanted to save the damn universe and I was willing to do that whichever way the characters felt would be the best. The story from KOTOR was so damn amazing that to me at least in terms of RPG's it completely beat Oblivion out. When I finished KOTOR the first thing I said was "when the hell does KOTOR2 come out, I want friggin KOTOR2 RIGHT NOW, whens it coming out, seriously I need that". After I beat Oblivion I'm not going to lie I'm sure you felt the same way but I was like "man I'm glad thats over". Thats because the expansions story was indeed as you quoted me as saying "amazing"...the expansion was so quirky and out of left field. Like I said in the post above you....Oblivion was likely very close to being in my top 10 games of all time I'm not denying that. I just don't think non-linear all of a sudden equals better then linear. There have been 1 or 2 rpgs that I've played that are linear as all hell and I'd easily rank them above Oblivion. I hate buying the football games every year because every year I NEED to get the new NCAA but then I play it for like a month, Madden comes out and I've essentially wasted $60. Then by time I get around to trading the NCAA game in I'm looking at getting a whopping $5 trade in credit. I downloaded shadowrun twice, and both times, in the start up screen, its like my controller D-pad is stuck in the up position, as it scrolls thru the options, and doesnt recognize any buttons being pressed. aggravating because I really want to try this demo

Have you tried turning the controller off then back on while in the menu for shadowrun. Something strange happened to me in gears last night. Billy and I were doing coop and I went to pick him up but the X button would not work. I went over to some nades and went to pick them up nothing. Turned off the controller then back on and it worked again. Not sure what happened.

I gave shadowrun a try last night...that game is friggin crazy. Cool concept...but there might just be WAY TOO much shlt going on at one time for me to wanna play. The demo is definitely worht a DL if any of you are on the fence about it. Hell...you can play 10 round "bot" matches all you want...and you can set the difficulty to like 6 diff levels. This might actually be one DL I leave on my hard-drive for a while.


This game was great. I would REALLY love getting a boardie group together. I could see playing this for quite awhile. Gonna go try and rent it today, and if its not in, I may have to really consider buying it

Think back on GoW, or CoD2, or R6V. How much time did you spend on singleplayer vs how much you spent on multiplayer. I'd bet the house on at least a 10-1 ratio on multiplayer. AT THE VERY LEAST!

Instead of putting time into something that the customer would play for a week, they put all that development into balancing the multiplayer aspect of the game. And I assure you, this game is as balanced as Chess.

If they honestly don't like it, fine. But don't try and pawn off "no singleplayer" as a reason to not buy it. It's the same thing as saying Oblivion sucks because it has no multiplayer.

It's an "arena" type FPS. A la UT, Quake 3, Counterstrike, and others. No need for a story, so no need for a campaign. You can play this game with no one but yourself, but having a game designed strictly for multiplayer is not a bad thing.

I just don't want someone to miss out on a game they could find extremely fun because they held onto a belief that prevented them from viewing the game objectively.

I mean it was fun for a bit to just run around and do what you wanted, but I had no clue what I was suppose to do.

This was the very reason why I was shocked that so many sales of Oblivion were made. I figured that most were already confused by Morrowind, and was shocked that news articles had Oblivion selling so well. I know most people equate "RPG" with "Final Fantasy", so I assumed most would reject anything that didn't have pretty cutscenes and do all the work for them (1 button combat, linear storyline). While I won't go on and say the Elder Scrolls series is the best gaming series EVAR, it is as close to a true RPG experience (paper & pencil RPG) as you'll see today.

Orange Box is Half Life 2: Episode 2, with Team Fortress 2, and Portal. All in one package. Good deal.

The 2 extra races in Shadowrun do add a lot, but if the core gameplay doesn't excite you, then they won't either.

There's the troll, which as it gets hit, drains its essence to add armor to its skin. You can unload clips into the thing and not kill it, even with the minigun. It's strong, so can walk around with heavy weapons with no movement penalty. The common thing to do is take a troll, with a minigun and tree of life, and just sit there in a hallway or something as an impenetrable wall. Lotsa fun.

Then there are Dwarves. These guys are small, not very fast, and only beat the elves for amount of health. They are second to the troll in strength, so are good with a minigun. Where they are kings, is with Essence. They have the most of anyone; 12 dots. This makes them great for ressurecting teammates, summoning monsters, and using Strangle to cut off areas. However, they have extremely slow essence regeneration. This is balanced by the fact that they steal essence from whatever they are next to. Enemies, teammates, and even magical stuff. Against things like Trees, Minions, or Strangle, they'll drain the essence and make them go away. This makes them good against trolls with a shotgun, because as they drain the trolls essence, the troll can't harden, and dies like anyone else.

That's what I think the best part of Shadowrun is. You don't have to be some crazy twitch FPS player to be good at it. You can go a match without firing a single round, and come out on top of the list by simply supporting your teammates.

that has ended they said they were going to do more but that contest ended in april. the only thing i've seen/heard was i got a survey about it. i really hope they keep it going it was alot of fun.

as for achivements to me personally it puts a whole new spin on gaming. things to try to do and then "proof" that you did do it. kinda fun.

However, this version of Shockwave will be a triple-changer, which means he has robot, turret, and helicopter forms. At any rate, serious Transformers fans will no doubt be quite pleased to see the inclusion of series elements outside of the film's milieu.:D

First, make sure your wireless encryption is set to WPA or WEP on your router. If it's set at WPA2 your 360 won't see the network.

Got into the network setting on your 360 and it should detection the wireless networks in your area. Your's should be the one with 4 or 5 bars.

Once you find your network, you'll have to enter the network key.

Yes Keith and Pyrrhonist I tried it for a short bit. Pretty much only got through the first stage. It's not bad but I thought it was going to be a wide open kind of game. I suggest if you are a FPS and/or western game fan than give it a try. But I dont have a good opinion on it yet because I havent really played much of it.

DON'T BUY IT. It's not worth your money, with all the renting you do, do what you do best....go to blockbuster, throw down $5, rent Call of Juarez, put in a good week with it and realize how disappointed you would have been if you bought it, only to be able to trade it back in for $5.37. I know it's tough but save that hard earned EB cash of yours for July...July is going to be a pretty solid month when it comes to releases.
