Got a question for all you LIVE guys.

I tried to join a co-op game last night. Then when I found a group I wanted to join and I would hit start it would tell me I lost connection and would not let me join the group. I tried this over and over and each time I would loose connection before I could even start a game. Does this happen to others or am I having connection problems?

they might have just booted you out i don't know for sure try joining a multiplayer match and see if the same thing happens.

It can be a common problem... it's usually due to your or the other guy's router. If it happens, it's best to move on.

It also happens if you try to join and the room is already full.

Wow.

First off---Peter Moore sucks ass at playing the guitar. He bombed out quickly in Rock Band. And, to boot, he paused the game a few times. It's kind of funny, too, because one of my buddies has a terrible time pausing games when he gets into a button-pressing frenzy---it makes us all want to beat him with his controller. :D It was good to see Rock Band played, because I knew Harmonix would not let us down. Guitar Hero was there game, after all, and I had little doubt they'd carry their greatness over to Rock Band. The price is my only worry about Rock Band, but seeing the game in action solidified that it will be great.

It's one thing to be psyched about a game, knowing that the Ubisoft team behind the new versions of Prince of Persia made the game, but to see it is a whole different story. Reading the hands-ons posted around, and seeing the footage, it sounds like it will be more like the first "new" Prince of Persia (not the old school one, obviously), where it wasn't a button masher. I thought the 2nd installment of the series on Xbox (I can't remember the subtitle of the game) took the game into button masher territory, and was too focused on battles and blood. It took away from the skill of the game. AC was already on my want list, but it moved up the list after yesterday.

Halo 3 looked great, as expected. But then again, it's not about the graphics for me, it's about the game. And I fully expect Halo 3 to be the "wow" game I know it can and will be.

Mass Effect....finally, a concrete date!! Now, if only BioWare would've confirmed a new KOTOR..... :(

personally from the vid i saw it looks more like gears 2 than gears on the PC nothing i seen on the video would indicate it is the first GOW besides if it is the mulitplayer has new maps as well besides i don't play PC games.

I'm disappointed that Brumak is available for the PC, but I imagine it will find it's way to the 360 in time. They probably felt they needed to set the PC version apart from the 360 for initial sales.

I believe it's definitely from the PC version of Gears 1, someguy. If you recall, Halo's release to PC contained things that the original Xbox version didn't (flamethrowers, for example). I'm sure it will all come to the 360 via DLC eventually.

The price is still steep for Rock Band, but this game will bring all of Harmonix's music properties (Guitar Hero, Karaoke Revolution) into 1 big package, and adds drumming in---which is something I'm shocked no one "stole" from DrumMania yet. And, to add to the scope of what Harmonix is shooting for with this game, it looks as if they're going to try and have 100 downloadable songs in the first year of this game being released. :eek: Here's the article:

You don't need all 4 players. From an article I read when you start up the game you'll be asked whether you want to play the guitar, bass, drums, or sing then you go through all 4 of those modes individually like you would with Guitar Hero or Karaoke Revolution. Only difference is when you actually have people over all of a sudden you can co-op all 4 of those instruments which should be awesome.

I haven't played gears in a while about a month or so and I was playing annex yesterday for the first time in a while, and was wondering. Do many people know the point of that game type? My team had multiple rounds of shut outs cause the other teams weren't attacking the ring areas. I had also forgotten how many people whine about being kicked when they won't turn their music down, or won't mute themselves when arguing with their mom about cleaning up there room.

Hey guys, I finally bought the 360 Wireless Adapter last night and tried to get it to connect to my existing wireless network. It would connect and then stop over and over again. It connected and said there was an update so it started updating. Then it stopped shortly there after. Is the 360 wireless adapter a POS or is my network just too weak? I'm using 2 laptops wirelessly in the same room and they connect and surf the web just fine. What's the deal?

Well I got CO-OP to work on LIVE last night with Gears of War. Again I tried to join another persons group but yet again it was telling me I lost connection with host. Then I decided to just host my own campaign and that worked just fine. I continued my campaign with some kid from TX who knew how to play the game and surprisingly I was doing very well. I'm not dying nearly as much as I was when I first started playing this game so I might start doing some multi player vs. mode now.

use the ghost characters or blast through the level as fast as possible :D the ghost characters don't work for the flying missions so that one your on your own.

I've heard of similar problems... I'm just not sure what the cure was. I believe it orginates at the router though. Try reseting it to start.

It could also be interference from wireless phone or another router.

What are you using for your wirless router?

After seeing the pace and scope of tracks Harmonix has planned for Rock Band, it's insane to think they could have new tracks every week!

I noticed I was one of the few who had it on their "wanted" games one of the times we did the 'What games do you want' thing, but who all will be getting the 360 Katamari Damacy (Beautiful Katamari)? I surely hope they don't have the same type of corny soundtrack for the 360's installment of the series. :D

Has anyone seen the movie for the UFC game thats coming out? I hate when companies release videos like this. The game looks like sheer perfection, but in the end it's just a movie and nothing to get your hopes up about.

I mean the movie looks like real life...aside from the fact that the demo match lasted about half as long and had only 1/100th of the action in real life.

Oh well...I just recieved the demo disc from XBOX magazine for Dirt and Forza2...I was playing Eternal Sonata and BAM...red rings....I bought my sytem the day it was launched. I tried it - wasn't real impressed. Honestly just doesn't give the feeling that you're actually flying a F-16. Visually it is pretty but the audio shines more IMO, especially during that intro scene. They got the sound effects down right and screaming jet engines is one of my favorite sounds in the world.

Multiplayer Perk #1: LAST STAND

Last week's Lace Report mentioned Perks - a new function in multiplayer that allows players to customize their online character with their own personal style of combat. This week, we reveal Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's first Perk: LAST STAND.

With Last Stand, you'll get one last ditch effort to continue the fight before you bleed out, or take another lethal hit. When you customize your class with Last Stand, or choose a default class which has it, anytime you're taken down, you'll fall to the ground and instantly pull out your side arm.

While in Last Stand, you'll be firing your side arm from the ground with one hand. Putting up one final last stand against the enemy before you bleed out, or they put one final round into you.

To give you a little glimpse into exactly what it's like to be in Last Stand, we jumped into multiplayer and took a screenshot and some video of the perk in action.

Multiplayer Perk #2: DEEP IMPACT

This week we're showing off the multiplayer perk, "Deep Impact." Before I jump into the details of what Deep Impact allows you to do, here's the low-down on Bullet Penetration in the game.

In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, we've introduced a new Bullet Penetration system to both Single-player and Multiplayer that allows you to shoot through certain objects in the game that would normally be used as cover (i.e. Walls, floors, ceilings).

That said, what you can shoot through depends on three main variables:

The Ballistics of the weapon you're using.
The relative 'thickness' of the object you're shooting through.
The distance between you and the object you're firing into.
These three things determine IF you can shoot through the object, and if you can, how strong the bullet will be once it passes through it.

It changes the entire way you play the game; suddenly it's not just about getting to cover, but about getting to hard cover. In multiplayer, this can change your tactics dramatically. Rather than simply picking a weapon to take into a firefight, you can carefully craft your weapon's load out to the environment you'll be fighting in.

In the video, we made sure to take huge advantage of bullet penetration, showing off how the M249 SAW makes light work of thin plaster walls and wooden floor boards. Now how does the Deep Impact perk play into this?

Well, for a weapon like the M249 Saw (featured in the video), obviously it has the power to easily shoot through plaster walls, wooden floors, and even some fairly thick stone walls--but what about an M4 Carbine, or some other lower caliber rifle? Normally, weapons like these wouldn't be able to penetrate stone walls or thick surfaces like the M249 SAW.

However, if you have Deep Impact selected as a perk, you will have INCREASED bullet penetration on whatever weapon you use. This allows you to pierce thicker objects, and with increased strength as it passes through. Turn Deeper Impact on and your M4 Carbine that used to be stopped by thin walls now penetrates through them easily, taking out anyone attempting to use it as cover.

Keep in mind though; you are limited to only three perks per custom class. So in order to have Deep Impact, you're giving up something else, such as LAST STAND, or another perk. Choice... Choices!

Multiplayer Perk #3: DOUBLE TAP

Double Tap is pretty straight forward: put more rounds down range quicker, because with Double Tap enabled, you'll have an increased rate of fire on any weapon you have, including your pistol.

In the video, we're using a Mini-Uzi which already has a great rate of fire. First we show you what it's like without Double Tap. Then we enable it, and you can easily tell the difference it makes in the middle of a fire fight.

The Double Tap perk is ideal for the Flag Runners, Run and Gunners - i.e. the guys who want to get into battle quickly, and wreak some havoc. It's also perfect for CQB and interior fighting. Keep in mind though, every perk has its pros and cons. If you choose Double Tap, you're going to have to miss out on something else, not to mention how quickly you're going to blow through your ammo if you're a spray-and-pray type of player.

Like always, choose your perks wisely, and tailor them to YOUR play style. In the end, every perk is bad ass; but thanks to the ability to only have three at a time, and balancing, you're going to have to pick the bad ass ones that fit perfectly with how you play. When it comes down to it, you're never going to overpower the enemy simply by having a certain perk; you have to use the ones that work well with your style and skills.

Their study, published in the Gaming Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, suggests 360's for men are akin to elaborate tail feathers in male pea****s: They attract females looking for a virile mate.

"Women are predisposed to prefer men with 360's," said study author David Frederick of DeVry.

"Most research is focused on what men find physically attractive in women and the career traits women find attractive in men," Frederick said by telephone. "Much less research is devoted to what women find attractive."

He said prior studies concluded a man's desirability was influenced more by his gamerpoints and achievements. His study found console ownership choice mattered more.

Women were more physically attracted to men with 360's, especially for a fling. But when it comes to finding a long-term partner, they tend to pick a man with a Wii over a mate with a 360 or PC.

"On the one hand, it makes them more sexy to women. On the other hand, it makes women more suspicious about their romantic intentions," Frederick said.

He and colleagues interviewed 99 male undergraduates about their sexual histories. men with 360's were twice as likely to have had more than three sex partners than types with other consoles.

Frederick and colleagues also asked 141 college women to look at four standardized silhouettes of men, each holding a different console. Most preferred a man with a PS3 who was more likely to commit to a $499 purchase over a 360-bound man they perceived as more volatile, aggressive and dominant in the game wars."

Burnout is already an amazing series, it's addicting as hell to try to get all those gold medals. The upgrades to Paradise look great though....to be honest I've never played a Burnout game online though, usually just play it with friends so I don't know how awesome/crappy that feature is going to be. I can imagine alot of pictures that will be sent your way are ass shots....or even worse.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's David Reeves stated that the 60GB PS3 is going the way of the 20 Gig model and being discontinued in late July in favor of the 80GB version, meaning that the console is still $599 American.

But that is only half of the story here. I have a very good source within a major Canadian retailer that guarantees that despite the lack of a cut at E3 this week, the Xbox 360 will drop $100 across all SKU's. When? Sooner than you think. AUGUST 1ST.

I can't confirm all the details, but basically in less than 3 weeks the console prices will be the following:

-Xbox 360 core, $199 American (with pack-in memory unit!)
-Nintendo Wii, $249 American
-Xbox 360 Premium, $299 American
-Xbox 360 Elite, $449 Canadian, possibly $399 American
-PS3, $599 American, $649 Canadian

So August 1st, Xbox 360 will be the lowest price console on the market with the core system, and the difference between the 360 Core and the only PS3 will be a staggering $400 US! You heard it here first!

BTW, I played my first games on the Red & Black Player's Pack maps on R6 yesterday (local co-op T-Hunt), and man, do they all drop you into a starting point that has 3-4 open areas where you can get shot from? They force you to be alert right off the bat, compared to the stock maps. :D

I'm getting All Pro Football (pending reviews) and skipping NCAA. As much as I like to take Iowa State to the championship game, the demo was terrible. All they did was add some new animations and update the roster.

i am loving this fightnight game... i created a character and am only on my 4th fight and i know the first few guys are easy but damn my last 2 fights had to be ended by the ref. the 1st only lasted till the 2nd and the last fight i just had the ref had to call the fight in the 1st round.

Wartown was the specific map I had in mind. Damn, they drop you right into battle. It's a good map, though. It's a nice, large map, and the enemy amounts keep you busy. It's probably bad I skipped the map packs before, since R6 is still one of my favorite shooter series, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay for each pack. It's great that the "mistake" of putting a price on the Black Pack had Ubisoft make both packs free!! :cool:

I don't know if this article was posted (it's a few days old), but it's pretty interesting. It goes into more detail about All Pro Football. Everybody has different special skills. Jack Tatum has "footsteps" so a receiver is more likely to drop the ball if he is nearby. Steve Young has a "Tough as Nails" skill that improves his stats every time he gets hit. This is shaping up to be a good game.

Jack Tatum has "footsteps" so a receiver is more likely to drop the ball if he is nearby. Steve Young has a "Tough as Nails" skill that improves his stats every time he gets hit. This is shaping up to be a good game.

I'm definately staying away from All Pro Football at the price they want. The NCAA demo finally felt like they focused on gameplay - the DB play was great, the block is about 500 times better, and then entire game just felt much more polished.

I'm actually thinking 2009 or 2010 is when both Madden/NCAA hit their stride to the fullest, but 08 definately seems playable (as compared to the last 3 years or so).

I found a good size is 1600x1200. It doesn't matter how big you go, it'll resize the image. Just don't go smaller than the resolution of your TV, because it won't stretch. If you don't know how to do it, just put an image on a USB drive, then hook it up to the 360. Go to the Media blade, then Pictures, then Portable Device. Find you picture, then hit X.

I've found that .PNG images don't work.

Seems like every single year we hear the same things though. "Oh I love the 2 new animations added to NCAA they really are turning things around". I'm guilty of the same thing...every year NCAA and Madden come out I buy them rant and rave about the improvements then a week later I realize I'm playing the exact same freaking game as I was last year. I mean it wasn't all that long ago that Madden07 was coming out and people were ranting and raving about how awesome the individual running styles were in 07 and how collision detection was better and how overall they had truly upgraded the game....(even I'm guilty of this) and then what happens? The honeymoon ends and it's the same crap.

2K8 may look cartoony and may be a little cheesy but at the very least it's something different, and it's got a bunch of great legends that bring back the nostalgia of Tecmo Superbowl and growing up being a Bills fan. If none of your favorite players are represented I can see where the game would be pretty questionable but the thought of being able to play as vintage Thurman Thomas and Andre Reed had me hooked from day one. Like I was saying though at the absolute very least it's something different in the realm of football...and while we don't get the legit teams we do get some of our childhood favorites which isn't all that bad.

Because I'm a football nut I'll be picking up both of them...because theres one thing you can't deny.....graphics and gimmicks aside 2K sports knows how to make sports games.

Chugga I am a huge football nuts as you are. But I cant see dropping $60 on a gimmick game. I will probably have to rent it and then I will maybe buy it once it drops to $30-$40 about a month after its release. And yes it does have some awesome Legends in it for me: Johnny U, OJ, Lee Roy Selmon etc. I will probably make an all USC team. But there are some questionable "Legends" also: Brian Bosworth, Bo, Merrill Hoge, Andre Ware.....

Madden copied 2K8 and they have those things too. Brian Urlacher has "Brick Wall Defender" and "Smart Linebacker". Ron Dayne (yes, that Ron Dayne) has "Power Back", Roy Williams, Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson all have "Spectacular Catch". That's not an arcadey feature. It's just a way to differentiate players. The stats of 1-100 never do much to help determine who's better. 2K doesn't have 1-100 ratings for any of the players.

OK, just tried to see if I could save an image from my USB drive to my 360, and could not. However, just to clarify, the background image gets saved. If you go into personal settings in the guide, then to themes, you'll see any image you previously applied as a background up there, so in a sense, it does save them, you just have to apply them all as backgrounds.

I had no idea Madden was doing this. I knew of some added "spectacular" plays, but didn't know those were passed out to everyone. You weren't kidding about how generous EA was, it's a joke that guys like Kenoy Kennedy get labels, but *** is Ron Dayne doing on that list??? The guy can't even fall forward to gain a yard. At least give it to Ahman Green instead.

BTW, the Bills are rated WAY too low. They're definitely better than the Texans! :D

Has anybody here heard of something called Video Games Live? My wife got tickets for us to go see it performed by the Houston Symphony this past Friday. It was so cool!!!!

In a nutshell, it's videogame music played by an orchestra while running simultaneously with gameplay footage.

The performance had the following:

Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy VIII (8)
Medal of Honor (set to authentic footage courtesy of the History Channel)
The Legend of Zelda
Kingdom Hearts (Disney only imagery...game studio wouldn't allow game footage:rolleyes: )
Advent Rising
Super Mario Bros
World of Warcraft
God of War
Civilization IV
Halo (the choir was awesome)

My wife isn't a gamer at all..her extent is Galaga, Super Mario Bros, and Mario Kart 64. She was cool enough to get the tix, but it worked out for both of us...she always wanted to go to the symphony, and I got to see videogame music done live...best of both worlds.

It was so neat...there was a screen projecting the images and the live music was in realtime...it started out with Pong (the orchestra was making the beep/boop sounds), then had a montage of lesser known games with all the corresponding music, and then the titles listed above.

Have any of you heard of the videogame pianist (see YouTube)? If you haven't, you must check out his uncanny ability on piano. Blindfolded he played medleys from Mario and other well known games at breakneck speed...truly a sight to behold. A lot of people think his YouTube videos are fake/doctored, but all that speculation was put to rest when he appeared on stage.

Accompanying the footage and live music was various lighting elements that accentuated the audio and video sequences...for example, when playing Zelda there were TriForce pieces projected everywhere, etcetera. For Halo there were rings, and so on.

While not to distracting, there were some cheesy elements to the show. First and foremost, Tommy Tallarico, who is a well known (to some) videogame scorer, hammed it up the whole night. While the Metal Gear medley was being played, some goofball decked out in homemade tactical paraphenalia ran back and forth across the stage, accompanied by his little robot drone. The only clever thing about it was the illuminated exclamation point when the music got intense (like it does when Snake gets spotted by his enemies).

There were some other neat things; an audience member was selected to literally play Space Invaders on the big screen...he had to shoot using a controller, but his movement was tracked offstage and when he moved, his character moved as well...needless to say, he didn't clear the level in less than 2 minutes, so he got to go home with a shopping bag full of Tokyo Pop stuff.

A duel between to other audience members was done via Frogger...the prize was one of those videogame laptops that is Ferrari red and has the logo on it, as well.

It was quite funny...the first guy actually was in a night class that my wife had during her spring semester...she always talked about this ******bag in her class, and he happened to get up on stage to compete for the laptop. Long story short, he lost! An "old school" 29 year old like myself beat him out for the laptop...it was great - nobody wanted the jerk to win.

Before the performance, there were consoles setup with Halo 2, Mario Kart 64, Dance Dance Revolution, Motorstorm, Wii Sports and Excite Truck.

An alternative rock radio station was giving away prizes and I won a t-shirt for my special lady...trust me, she was really psyched about a 94.5 The Buzz t-shirt;) If you have the means, I suggest you pick one up.

At first my wife was a wee bit uncomfortable...Naturally, there were hundreds and hundreds of gamers at this thing, and my wife's nationality is, well, kind of an unfortunate stereotype for an event of this ilk. Think anime.

She was oogled a lot, but I can't blame them - I bagged me a hot one!!!:D My wife was photographed no less than two times. She's terrified she'll end up on some pervish anime message board with all sorts of crazy comments. Boys of all ages were making it a tad obvious that my wife was making their Spider-Sense tingle...it was hilarious to see them so amazed at the sight of a real girl. The boys' final fantasy (pun wholeheartedly intended) came to life. My wife rocks.

There was a costume contest before the show, as well. 4 participants were chosen...some girl who looked like a lezzie Jack Sparrow, a guy in a witch's hat (apparently from one of Final Fantasy games), some Guitar wielding ***** (I guess from a Guitar Hero game), and a kid who dressed up like Luigi from Luigi's Mansion - it was awesome - he had a dirt devil on his back complete with overalls, gloves, hat, the whole thing! Of course, no one is going to let the kid lose, but objectively, his costume was the best of the bunch. He won some videogame prize package, but it wasn't as good as the laptop thing later in the show.

Sidenote: My wife and I were watching people play DDR and the Guitar ***** walked by in full costume, even though there wasn't that much costume at all. The usher was of grandmother age and the look of pure horror on her face was PRICELESS as she saw *****y Mc*****erton pass by. Afterward my wife went to throw a water bottle in the garbage and casually said to usher granny..."don't see that at the symphony a lot, huh?" She replied silently with a nod of "no."

The musicianship was excellent, but I imagine that it is fairly consistent from venue to venue. The tour is worldwide, so go to http://www.videogameslive.com and check it out. We sat center orchestra, so our tix were a little more, but seats for the event started at $20 a pop, I think.

With intermission it was a little over two hours, two and a half, max. If it hasn't come to your neck of the woods already, get your tickets...it was definitely worth it.


OH OH OH!!!! I almost forgot. An odd couple sitting in the row in front of the wife and I were quite hilarious...well, the guy more than the girl. He was tall and wirey, and she was, well, neither. It was a symphony performance, so she had a nice dress on and he had dress pants w/ a vest and (likely clip-on) tie and short sleeve button up shirt...he was a little hornball! He couldn't keep his hands of his girl all night...some people next to us were commenting at intermission, and my wife said "everybody finds love somewhere..." I turned to my wife later and said, "so what'd you think of Horny Potter?"

Whoever made the submissions for the TF: Movie game should be fired, if he hasn't already. Some of the most inconsistent and terrible "side" missions I think I've ever played. Hunting for the energon cubes provides more excitement than they do.

The weapon achievements arent unlockable in player matches. It is only the new map and annex achievements that can be unlocked in player matches. Although I wish the others would be. I hate playing ranked matches.
