So your local Gamestops/EBs don't give full ca$h/credit/debit refunds, only store credit? I've been "buying-to-rent" games at my local EB for a better part of the last 6-7 months. I know I'm good friends with the manager, so that helps, but the policy there states you can return any used game for any reason, and get a full refund in 7 days. That would suck if they made it to where you could only get store credit. :mad:

You just had me worried, that's all! I would hate to lose out on that capability if they change their policy. Believe me, it's much better to have the option of returning for a full refund than paying for a rental at Lackluster...even with the option of turning in your online rentals for a $4.99 rental. Some games just aren't worthy of paying for them, rental or not.

I'll tell you right now as some friendly advice. Don't use Gamestop as your videogame rental spot. Do it enough times in a certain period and they'll flag you as a customer. Back when I used to work there we had a few "renters" who took advantage of used games return policy....buy a used game, beat it in whatever time they need, couple days, a week, a few weeks and then boom they'd come back "the game isn't working"....basically it got to a point where they called it a boy who cried wolf too many times and they refused to take his stuff back. You can ask for the number of corporate and try to complain but by time they take the measure of shutting you down as a customer corporate is full aware of how you are basically taking money from them and they could care less about you as a customer or pleasing you in the phone call.

Last thing you wanna do is get all happy in your rental attempts and one day show up and hear that they won't be taking back your copy of the Fantastic Four....and you just paid $60 for it.

Well I got back a 360 today. I think it might actually be brand new but you never know really. It still had the warning strip on the disc tray and the plastic on the infrared censor, but I guess they could have just put those on before shipping. It was also manufactured in June of this year.

I don't think we'll really know until the game comes out. People will say they'll buy it but who knows....I know keith is going to get it but he wants to wait 2-4 days to hear if it sucks or not. Cory has been pretty much locked in since day one. But after that it's blurry.

If you picked up the game tonight and just grinded the absolute hell out of the game doing only the main quest line you could probably finish it in 15 hours. You could certainly do it over the course of 1 power-gaming weekend.

Use HDMI if you can. 1 wire takes care of audio and video. Plus if you want to take advantage of the higher end audio from Blu-ray/HD-DVD only HDMI v1.3 technology supports it.

HDMI = Digital signal. Carries audio + video. Either all info is there, or not, so image is constant. Can upscale DVDs on the 360 with it. If 360 ever can decode high def audio, can carry that signal, as well. Outputs up to 1080p for DVDs/HD-DVDs/Games.

Cons = none really.

Component = Analog signal. Carries video + you need optical out for a digital audio signal. Image can be shoddy with crap cables. Cannot upscale regular DVDs over it, but can output 1080p for games, but not HD-DVDs.

I appreciate it, guys... I only because I talked to comcast today to see if my DVR box I have from them has a built-in HD tuner. I looked on the back and it does have an HDMI port. But the girl, who actually seemed knowledgeable about the subject, said she would recommend component cables over HDMI because it would give the same resolution but costs far less. I thought this was a little odd because I always assumed HDMI was the preferred way to go.

I've been told that the quality of your HDMI cable can make a difference in your signal, which makes sense. I know Monster makes nice stuff, but they are priced at around $120 for a 6ft cable or 100 for a 3ft cable. Is Monster the surefire way to go, or are there other options out there just as good that are cheaper?

The signal is digital, it can be made out of moon rocks worth 14 trillion dollars or used tube socks and paper clips, and it will look neigh-indistinguishable.

Component cables are actually far costlier then HDMI.

Just go to www.monoprice.com and buy the cheapest HDMI cable for the length you need. I think it can be had for 5-10 dollars AFTER shipping.

Never spend alot on HDMI cables, as PrimeBane said, other then a potential handshake problem, there is no need to go after expensive stuff.

Avoid Mon$ter at all costs... go to the monoprice link I gave you. You can get an HDMI cable for dirt cheap that will work just as good as monster if not better.

The nice part about HDMI is that the signal either gets there or it doesn't... you don't have to worry about shielding or interference, etc.

With regards to your cable box, there really isn't a difference between component and HDMI right now b/c all broadcasts HD broadcasts are shown in 1080i. Now when it comes to your gaming system or HD player, it's best to go HDMI.

Also, you might as well go component to free up an HDMI slot too - Plus most cable companies offer a component cable for their dvr/hd boxes. I know Time Warner did.

Did todays update scare anyone else? I freaked when the console shut off then restarted and failed to read the disc. Then when I joined a room my mic wouldn't transmit and no one was talking.

Also, Two Worlds related. Other then the art and lame interviews and what not what else is included in the collectors edition? I read one place that thee was a couple weapons and armor downloads. Yet when I went to another site to conferm the second site didn't have it listed.

While I'm sure I'm in the minority, I'll admit to not liking the WWII frenzy of games the past x years. As such, I never played many. While that's true, I cannot deny that Infinity Ward is one Hell of a developer. Now that they're moving the COD series into modern times, I'm stoked as Hell for COD4...especially after reading the hands-on reports of the upcoming Xbox360 BETA, as well as re-watching the E3 trailer/gameplay footage, I'm pumped! I know many of us are waiting for Halo 3, The Orange Box, GTAIV, Bioshock, etc, but this could be the hit of the fall season.

Some perks you can choose for your character in COD4

Perk 1
C4 x 2 - Two C4 charges you can plant and remotely detonate. You can even detonate while another weapon is equipped by tapping the reload button twice.

RPG-7 x 2 - It's slow to fire, but it helps when there's a helicopter on the prowl (or when you can't aim for s***).

Special Grenades x 3 - Pack a few more stun or flash grenades in your purse.

Claymore x 2 - Explosive mines that detonate when stepped on. Great for dropping when someone is in pursuit.

Bomb Squad - Tired of being blown up by well-placed C4? Now you can see it before it goes boom in your face.

The second and third group of perks directly boost your effectiveness in combat.

Perk 2
Juggernaut - Increased health so you don't die quite as quickly.

Stopping Power - Increased bullet damage, which really does a number on the opponent who chooses Juggernaut as his Perk 2.

Sonic Boom - Deal more damage with explosives.

Sleight of Hand - Faster reloading, which is crucial if you want to carry the SAW (aka big gun that takes a full minute to reload).

UAV Jammer - Keeps you from showing up on radar if your opponent has a UAV drone deployed. This won't keep you from appearing as a blip on the screen when firing.

Perk 3
Extreme Conditioning - Allows you to get extra distance when you sprint, which is important since COD4 maps have lots of open areas.

Steady Aim - Better hip-fire accuracy for those who like spraying bullets everywhere.

Deep Impact - Your bullets go deeper (and harder). This is one of the best perks, as it allows you to shred through cover and hit enemies who think they're safe.

Last Stand - The most fun of all the beta perks. Once you've taken enough damage to have killed you, you get to whip out your pistol and fire until someone shoots you. You can't move, but if you're lucky, you can take someone with you. Or you can take the cowards way out and deny your enemy the full XP for the kill.

Martyrdom - You drop a grenade as you die, which can be quite the surprise for someone who sneaks up and kills you with a melee attack.

I've never played Halo, but I did rent Halo 2 when the Beta hit recently just to see what the hype was all about. Didn't seem like my type of game. Couldn't really get into it. So I guess if CoD4 isn't where my spawn bros are hanging, shunned will I be yet again ;)

Lost Planet was okay. Awesome graphics, but the game play took some getting used to. Lots of interesting weapons too.

Yeah, I liked it.

I really liked the fact that you can unlock the two other d-pad techniques (along the two other difficulties) by replaying the game a couple times. It's a little tricky to spot interative stuff at first, but after a while you kinda get a sense for the game.

I absolutely love the precision shot. Shooting people in the eye (not to mention in the nads) is good clean fun. :D

Also, the "stand-off" feature is just a great thing to experience.


Overall, I think it's a pretty fun game. Definitely one of the better "straight-up" action titles that's coming to the 360 within what's left of 2007. The MP5's that you pick up near the end of the demo are awesome. Too bad you don't get to use them that long.

What was the point of the Golden Guns in the Stranglehold demo? They didn't seem to do anything different from what I could tell. They're hidden in a side room near the midpoint of the demo. The door is all beat up and you just have to finish shooting it down.

Stranglehold is pretty cool. I couldn't help but feel a little deja vu when playing it. It reminded me of Max Payne from back in the day. The stand off is cool. Dodging the bullets Matrix style left to right. The precision aiming is nice too. Seeing the bullet zoom it's way to explode into someone's face with blood flying is cool.

The only thing I didn't like was how Tequila automatically slides across certain things. It looks forced. I love having the option of hitting the L trigger to do it but him doing it automatically forces the animation and I didn't like that.

I don't see why anyone complains about Halo 3's graphics in the first place. They're next-gen graphics. They might not be exactly on par with Gears of War, but they're damn beautiful if you ask me.

Of course, I'm getting the game regardless. It could look like the same garbage ass Halo 2 and I'd still get it, just because I want to finish the fight. Although, I must say, the bull**** from Halo 2's multiplayer better not find it's way into Halo 3 or I may not play it that often, if at all.

However, for unseen problems and scenarios, I just hope they actually FIX the bugs and glitches this time though...instead of just constantly modding weapons and fixing REALLY *** **** like the rocket/sword lung.

Actually, it's where you melee someone and right after that you hit the X button (may as well call it the "cancel" button) to cancel the animation and allow you to go straight in for the next attack, in which you shoot them once with (typically) the Battle Rifle. It's not as annoying as long as you keep your distance, but still...come on, just play the ****ing game for pete's sake.

Another thing you can do is BxB, which is basically two melee attacks in sequence, instead of meleeing and then meleeing a second time. So by the time you're about to melee someone a second time, they could easily pwn you by just pushing the X button after their first initial melee makes direct contact. It's really ****ing ***.

The double shot is what allows you to shoot really fast. Take that even further by having a secondary weapon and you end up with the ability to do the quad shot, albeit a little more complicated than the double shot. You can pretty much imagine the latter kills you regardless of where it hits you, most of the time. Anyway, it's basically for n00bs who couldn't otherwise kill you in a normal BR fight.

I hear you can even buy modded controllers that will easily allow you to do quad shots. If that's true...then that's even worse than the idiots who mod their Xbox, in my opinion.

Besides the quad shot (without the aid of said modded controller), none of it is actually that hard to do. All it takes is a little practice, but I mean...what's the point?

Welcome to "next gen", where graphics determine everything. :rolleyes: It's sickening that the quality of graphics seems to be the 1st factor for determining what is good enough to be called "next gen" on the 360 & PS3. I guess having good gameplay is a minor detail. :(

On a side note, I picked up Prey for my free rental this month, and it is quite surprising for a PC port. I expected it to not be so good, but it's fairly decent. I played it on my brother's PC while visiting last year (I believe it came out in June/July '06), but never thought of trying it on the 360. It's kind of lame you can't ever really die, but it's a fun time. Even the multiplayer is decent.

It isnt bad so far once you get the hang of it. I have had it forever but it wouldnt work on my old xbox so I never got anywhere other than past the first level. Although it is kind of annoying that all the achievement points are for about 26 achievements then another 24 with 0 points. Yeah, but they're using that as an argument against the 360 and often times the Wii. The (original) Xbox had pretty great graphics too, even when it first came out. And, if I recall correctly, it was the most expensive of the lot at the time. But what was everyone saying then as well? And I'd have to agree with them. The Xbox didn't have too many great games at first. It was all just "better graphics."

I think it's more for some over all xbox live championship coming up in august. You can see a master chief in it, but you can also see the Shadow Run ninja class character, as well as a couple other characters from other games.

I've never had any doubts about the graphics. So this pic does not surprise me in the least. Still, it's rather cool, him standing there holding that flamthrower! I can't wait to customize my own Spartan. :D

Madden has been pretty weak for a while....06 for the 360 was just downright awful. I remember playing the first Madden for the PS2 and being blown away...their first shot with the 360 was just downright bad. 07 wasn't horrible but it wasn't anything to write home about either.

I think All Pro Football 2K8's gameplay beats out 06 and 07 easily. The lack of an NFL license hurts it really bad but the gameplay is there...the little things are there. Tell me how a game with the exclusive license to ESPN has WORSE presentation then the game with no affiliations what-so-ever? 2K8's presentation puts Madden to shame and thats just unfortunate because it shouldn't be that way.

I was never a 2K guy...well aside from when it was out on the dreamcast. When it was head-to-head with Madden on the PS2/Xbox I always thought Madden won out. But the gameplay that we've been getting the last 2 years for the "next-gen" maddens has just been sub-par. This year could be different but as far as I'm concerned I'd take the gameplay of 2K8 over all of the 360 maddens so far. You can ask me this question again on the 14th, my answer might change.

I really haven't enjoyed playing Madden since '05, so it's nice to see that a lot of my favorite features are finally coming to NG.

I pop in the DVD of Grease today and it's displaying at 720x480. It looks crappy and it should look better than this. Would something about this DVD itself make it only upconvert to 720 and not 1080i like all my others do?

What's your connection? The 360 will only upconvert over HDMI or VGA. The only way the 360 can upconvert over anything else is if the CSS (content scramble system) has been removed from the DVD.

Anyone have any positive results with the 360 VGA cable? I've got a 40" Samsung LCD that does 1080i max. A friend of mine has the same TV and used the cable and wasn't happy with how the 360's dashboard and overall look looked after hooking it up. I'd like for DVD's to look the best they can on my TV since the 360 is my primary DVD player.

There's a code that the host can put in during a match that puts the game in GI John Doe mode and Bravo team's rifles shoot blue lasers and Alpha shoots red lasers like Cobra and G.I. Joe cartoons back in the day. Sorry if this is old for anyone, but the host did it in a match I was in last night and it made me laugh my ass off

I found both systems at my parent's place last weekend, and I've been going at Super Punch Out!! Really Chugga? I found the All Pro Football gameplay to be quite bad. I played it for literally a few minutes. I just had quit. And the "Legends" drop pretty badly after "Gold Legends".

2K8 is gameplay that you have to learn to enjoy. You don't pick it up and all of a sudden you are like "uhh this is awesome". It's the small things that you'll just start seeing more and more as you play that make you go "wow thats awesome, why doesn't madden have that?". It's the collision detection that is just amazing....seeing someone dive then have my guy run by their downed body and have my guy accidentally kick his leg on a hurdle and have his leg react to it perfectly. Watching Thurman Thomas pull off a perfect spin move have the guy get a hold of my jersey then have me spin out of it perfectly and have his momentum carry him past me and fall down. In madden the spin move is just a tool to switch direction....in 2k8 the spin move is what gets defenders hands off of you....which is what it IS like in real life.

Just picked up APF 2K8 and have to say its very impressive. The presentation is great and its actually fun to play. Madden has been downhill since they got the liscence and playing with these old timers and nobodys is fun.

That was my issue last night, too. I started downloading around 9pm PST, and when I checked my system again just after 10pm, it was no further than 11%. I gave up and cancelled the DL for the night. I'll give it another shot tonight after work.

I deleted everything from my dashboard I think... EVERYTHING... the entire Halo 2 folder just to be sure.

That's weird, I always download mine the same time as other people, but it goes really fast for me, i downloaded it in 10 mins. I thought it was really fun, but a few times i was stuck wondering what to do, like 4 bad guys i needed to shock water. and those flying things never went away.

That's what you'll keep hearing around gamer forums, but people who've played it in Europe on PC say it plays more like Diablo than an Elder Scrolls game. The Oblivion comparisons are coming from the trailer, which looks like some locales were carbon-copied straight from Oblivion.
