i tend to agree with this...I need fast-paced action, be it third person or first person.
Yeah, fast paced action is cool...most of the time. But sometimes I just like to take my time, enjoy the scenery, walk in the shadows, stalk the prey, and then plung a razor sharp dagger into the backside of my enemy. :D

Some of the achievements were really hard like the 30 takedowns one....but then you realize theres an easy way around it....simply never hit boost until you are on the verge of hitting something. But the burning laps were the killers....Burning lap on that course that has the cliff you need to drive over and the shortcuts are those huge jumps.

Thanks guys... yeah, the road rage events in Dominator were crazy hard! I tried slowing down then boosting to rear-end the other cars, but most of the time they'd slow down too and shunt me... the AI on those cars are brilliant. Finally got disgusted and decided to floor it, going as fast as I could. It did the trick, if you keep checking traffic as you go along there's a high likelyhood your rivals will get taken out behind you. Plus, ramming into them at full speed worked great too... ended my gold medal run with 39 takedowns.

And I'd say out of all the burning laps in the game, there were three in particular that I must've tried about twenty times each, most notably the lap on White Mountain that you have to complete in 2 minutes with a formula one-type car. Nailing every shortcut on that track was rough.

I actually had a harder time doing some of the Traffic Check events... like trying to maintain an "Awesome" rating by doing trick shots when the gold medal dollar amount is $1million.

The burning laps were the toughest for me. Congrats, that ain't easy. I didn't come close to getting perfects on everything, just didn't have the patience.

I am still trying to finish Forza. Jesus is it getting difficult. But seriously, the game is like crack rock to me. All these great 360 titles, and I just can't stop playing Forza. Still only 4 circuits in MotoGP, that's been collecting some dust for a bit...

So far we only have Project Gotham Racing 3 and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

Some of those were seriously "controller breaking" tough.

I tried getting perfects on most of it playing the ps2 version, so when I rented the 360 version, I knew exactly what I was getting into- and NOT spending my time doing. Difficult stuff.

Chronic- What other types of games do you like to play?

MotoGP is a good racer, very very different from 4 wheel racers.
Fight Night is a great boxing game if you like those. Beautiful too.
Tomb Raider is a good rental game for adventure games. Short, but fun.
And of course COD2 is good too.

I'm really not that much of a gamer...
I play once in a while.
I'm very, very picky. I love all 3 Splinter Cells, and Halo 1 and 2, and I love Project Gotham 3.

Prey on 7/12, NCAA 07 on 7/18. Busy month for me! Anyone else excited about either of these titles? Prey looks great, and I have no doubt about buying it on 360 although it may get better top end performence on my PC (3 ghz 1 gig of ram but only a 6600 GT for video).

Stability and nearly the same graphics > frame drops and higher res textures, for sure.

I really think the only thing I dislike about NCAA (aside from the fact that EA football gameplay is completely unrealisitc and nothing like football, but that aside) is the horribly freakish character models and running animation. They need to get someone new who doesn't model people like a moron and get them looking less like Ogres and more like people. That, and figure out how to make running look more natural, as it currently looks completely incorrect.

Other then that, NCAA series is always at the top of my list every year.

Chugga
06-24-2006, 07:40 PM
Yeah I absolutely hate the player models with the 360. Hell I liked the old xbox/ps2 models more then these new ones. Don't get me wrong some of the faces are scary good (takeo spikes) but kickers look like body builders and linebackers look like someone put one of those cartoon hoses into their shirt and started inflating it to the point where it's about to pop. Don't even get me started on the legs...those gigantic thighs then the tiny itty bity ankles.

I actually just went back to playing Madden the other day (for the first time in months) and I was blown away by the graphics once again but it's those damn player models.

To be honest though I gotta stop buying videogames, I'm trying to save up for a blu-ray or hd-dvd player.

This might actually be the first year that I won't buy NCAA football. Dunno what it is, just not feeling it. I a huge CFB fan, huge. My poor GF suffers every saturday in the fall, but so far, I am really on the fence with the 360 title. I don't know if it will bring much to the table that I haven't already experienced.

But, in all reality, who am I kidding? I end up getting it on release day every year. I guess this year I might wait to hear from folks how they like it. I am disappointed to hear that it's so stripped down, and based off Madden last year. I mean, that's the way it is every year, but with the 360, I expected this coming Madden and NCAA to be about the same.

I've been on the Prey bandwagon since it's announcement, and the first few gameplay videos and trailers came out... looks like a super twist on Doom style gameplay (old-schooler here, so I'm all over it). Portals, wall and ceiling walking... really stoked to play it.

Was a bit pissed when MS delayed the demo on Thursday, but it's supposed to come out today (Monday) on Marketplace. The PC demo is available, if your rig is up to it. Alas, I need a new video card. :(

Huge demo as well, forty-five minutes of single player and two multiplayer maps, gonna be at least a 500 mb download. Very generous for a demo.

I'm not a fan of sports games, so I can't help you there. But for non-sports, you can not go wrong with Call of Duty 2 and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Both of these games are GREAT for single-player, and if you get Xbox Live, you will have ten times more fun. For RPGs, Oblivion is a must-have. Also Burnout Revenge is an incredible arcade racing game, LOTS of fun in single player. I hear Live is great for Burnout, but I've never played it online.

I've played the demo a couple dozen times or so, trying to get used to the feel of the game. I'm thinking about picking it up.

It was horrible at first. You really do have to adapt to the game if you're more used to playing traditional racing games with sports cars and what not. It's probably taken me somewhere around 10 games to finally get to where I can break top 5 most of the time.

Another thing, and this kind of bothers me a little, the game's sense of speed is a bit lacking. It never actually seems as if I'm going the speed that the speedometer says I'm going. Not that big a problem, but it's just something that I noticed and kind of felt awkward about.

Good game overall, that is of course if you can get past the initial phase of toppling off of your bike every other turn.

I really enjoy MotoGP. I know what you mean about the sense of speed though. But you do really get that if you play in the first person views.

I love the fact that a few of the courses are the same in many of the racers we've played, just stresses the point of a completely different experience racing on them with two wheels instead of four.

It's pretty good, not nearly as in depth as Forza- where you had a hundred layers you could add.

The general consensus from the guys in europe on the planetxbox360 board is that the demo is pretty crappy. They say it's very slow, graphics aren't very good, and generally boring.

Not the slightest idea. I was playing MotoGP for a little bit and had problems with it freezing. Then played Ghost Recon and had some serious freezing issues. Didn't play the 360 for a while. Then all of a sudden I turn it on today and nothing...3 red lights, then 4 red lights, then 3 red lights a bunch of times.

I'm just going to go out and buy another one tomorrow and get the product replacement plan. I'm pretty sure they are making 2nd gen systems by now so I'd rather get that then just have my current system repaired.

I picked up Battle for Middle Earth II today mainly on an impulse buy. Not too impressed so far. The controls are easy enough but, I don't know, so far it's just not that fun. The thing is, I think I'd really like it on the PC. I guess I was just hoping for something amazing with the 360 over the PC version. Not totally condemning it yet though, I've still yet to play through the better part of the good campaign and havn't even touched the evil campaign or Multiplayer. So far: renter.

Also, there's pretty significant lag when multiple armies are on the screen. Maybe it's just my 360 though.

Can you get through quite a bit it you don't get the pink slip for their cars? Assuming you have enough cash that is? Are the Blacklist member's cars more suped up than what you could do with the same car?

Picked up LOTR BFME 2 yesterday. So far I've just goofed around with the tutorials and it seems pretty sweet. There is a few hic up frame rate issues but I've read from others on the Xbox forums that they have only experienced this during the tutorials and the regular game was fine. The other issue I've seen people talk about alot is being able to zoom out a little farther. Perhaps this might be addressed in a future update. I like it though from the little bit I've played so far. :)

No....the cars you get from the blacklist members should already be surpassed by what you have in your car if you keep it up to date.

Heres the key....come the end of the game you want 2 things....MONEY and Junkman's Parts. The only thing the blacklist members cars offer is a hold-over until you find something better. Money allows you to buy all of the Porsches when they come out as they have by far the best handling...and speed can be easily upgraded. You really shouldn't be buying anything other then Porsches unless you actually like other cars (I bought an Enzo for the hell of it).

But anyways make sure every time you beat a rival you go after the "unique performance upgrades". You'll get "Junkman Parts". The cool thing about Junkman parts is they are added onto all of your other mods generally pushing you over 100% regardless of what car you drive. As for the Porsches, I personally bought the first Porsche that was available to me and didn't buy a new car until I unlocked the last car. Now that last car is just no joke. Without even modding the car you can win races. The minute you mod the car and put the junkman parts in all of these "impossible" levels that people talk about online are literally walks through the park.

The downside to junkmans parts is the fact that you can only use them ONCE. So start saving up Junkmans parts through races 15-10 or 15-8 (if you get duplicates) and then decide what car you want to use them on. I used them on the last car you unlock and used all the duplicates on my Carrera.

I went Original Car--->RX8--->Porsche Carrera--->Final Porsche

As you can see I never even used a rivals car. Also purchased an Enzo but I just used that car for police chases.

Jamesweighs
07-07-2006, 11:16 AM
Sweet Chugga. Thanks. Once again, you are ever so the man.

Ok, so I've beaten three of them, and gotten only one Junkman Parts marker, and used it on a crappy rival's car. So, I think I might start over. I have a tweaked Supra right now, but I should be ok with using just the cobalt at the start.
So you should get these upgrades, then try for the pink slip to sell off the rivals car for more cash then. That's the other tip I got from a friend.

Great, this helps a lot.

Chugga
07-07-2006, 11:32 AM

I wanted an NFL coach game for so long since in Madden I often find myself drafting, trading, etc then not even playing the games in the franchise mode. So I figured "hey a game that cuts right to the chase I'm all over it". But when I read previews/reviews the game bored me...from what they included into the game you might as well just buy madden and do what i do all the time by simply drafting and trading.

MPCanes
07-10-2006, 02:00 PM
It literally is almost the franchise mode for 40 dollars.

It's so not indepth its scary. It gives this illusion that what you are doing makes any difference, but in reality its not that at all.

Plus, you have to deal with your players being complete morons. Checkdowns are non existent, even if you give players specific checkdowns. For example, I'll tell Byron Leftwich to go from WR1, to WR2, to TE, and he always just forces into triple coverage regardless of whether or not WR 2 or TE is open. The same goes for the computer.

Even with that, though, the game is scarily easy. I would win every game by an average of like 35-10, and thats only because the Colts offense put me into a serious shootout. On average each game was more like 40-3 with 3+ ints per game for my D, including one game with 10 freaking ints.

Stupid.

It is kind of stupid that there's no split-screen multiplayer in Prey. However, if you think about it, there's a lot more people playing online multiplayer than there is offline multiplayer. I'd say probably 4 out of 5 people take their Xbox 360 multiplayer online.

Still, there should be a split-screen option. The more options that are in the game, the better.

The console isn't the only thing that needs breathing space....that giant sized power brick shouldn't be cluttered up in a ton of wires, they give you plenty of cord to set it out by itself if you've got the room.

The easiest thing I noticed in 2nd gen consoles is when you take your 360 out of the box they actually have a colored piece of plastic over the disk drive. A major problem with first gen consoles was the fact that people would open up the disk tray and there would be clear tape of it (I did this the first time I played my 360 and almost crapped my pants). You really couldn't see the clear tape over the disk tray unless you were looking for it. With second gen it's got green running through it and theres writing on it....can't miss it this time around.

Wow.....the last time I can remember doing that was almost a year before Halo 2 came out. Although for the most part of a year and a half I had "Halo lan parties" about once or twice a month.

Once you go "Live"...you never go back. Close friends however, move on and go about their lives eventually.

Most of my friends have drifted away. :(

While a few of my friends have drifted away (moved, gone to college, in the military, etc) everyone is still just waiting patiently for a lan party. We haven't had one in over a year...mainly because the kids house who we went over 99.9% of the time entered the military. But I've got a tv coming in soon so my house will be the new spot. Likely fire up Call of Duty the first time I get a chance.

The thing I don't like about Live is the fact that it just seems very antisocial. Sure you and some 8 year old in Kentucky are having a great time and talking trash but when it's all said and done you aren't really hanging out with friends. Theres something about a lan party, getting everyone over, hooking up all those 360's running cables throughout the house and going at it doing TEAM stuff. If I play an FPS online it will take me MONTHS to find a good group of people that I actually like playing with and by then I'm onto a new game. With a LAN party theres no need to hunt down people who actually play like a team. And if someone wants to be rambo do you know what happens? You walk over them and slap them in the back of the head. I don't have the time to drive all the way out to Kentucky to tell little timmy he sucks at guarding the flag.

I avoid basically anyone under the age of 15 like the absolute plague on Xbox Live.

The only people I play with are my friends....and my friend's "friends." Sometimes I'll meet cool people along the way and add them to my friends list though. I've actually found it easier to play online with my friends rather than getting them all together for "LAN parties." The last few times I tried that, only a few people could make it...which isn't worth it at that point.

It's weird. There seems to be multiple groups (or factions) of people that either help or attack you throughout the game. It's kind of hard to discern between their motives and actions in the pics though.

Oh, picked up the Collectors Prey for 59.99 after a 10 dollar coupon at best buy. It's a very well done collectors edition, IMO, one of the better ones as of late. I'm a ***** for collectors editions, though, so don't necessarily take my word as gospel, but I tend to be willing to spend a little extra for artwork, pewter figurines, a really slick packaging, etc. I hate collectors editions that are 10 dollars more and are simply "includes making of DVD!". Early impressions of Prey (played through the equivalent of the demo which I played on PC)

Graphics are very comperable - textures are lower res, but not that much lower (I had everything maxed on PC). Framerate is rock solid. This game would look great in HD, much better then the POS 20 incher (although with component) I'm playing on right now.

Gameplay is fun, but nothing earth shattering. If you like FPS with a good story and good art design (its wild), I recommend it. The multiplayer is also wild, apparently, but I can't play it.

Will hold me over nicely until NCAA next week, since I can't get the freaking demo and kind of want to kill myself because of this.

Picked up the Collectors Edition as well... wasn't expecting it to be so huge! Easily three times the width of the Halo 2/Doom 3 metal case. Awesome artwork, great figures. Went to Gamestop yesterday- they have a special where you get more credit for 2- 360 titles and 3- ps2 titles. I walked in with 2- 360 games, 2 crappy old ps2 games, a ps2 controller and mem card, and ended up with 85 bucks in trade in credit. Holy crap. Now I have both Forza 2 (had some left to pay) and NCAA completely paid off and 9 bucks to spare.

Yeah, I played it this afternoon and I completed the corner routes everytime. Surely the full version wont allow this to happen. The game looks great, the speed seems to be pretty accurate and the players have a "real" feel to them.
I was originally going to wait for Madden since I'll be on vacation til the end of the month and then Madden will be out shortly, but I may have to pick this up. I'll read the reviews after everyone has had it for a week and then decide.

Goblins are very weak but, they're some of the quickest to generate. It's good to set your caves to create more units than you're command limit will allow, that way, as groups die, more are gerenrated and at hand.

Though I find half-troll pikemen much more effective myself.

DarthPredamorph

How accurate is the assumption that EA fixes that corner route problem? The game has already been completed and shipped. Isn't the demo a small sample of the completed version?

WitchKingOfAngmar
07-15-2006, 08:58 PM
So...set up two caves and when I need more troops have both generate more Goblin units at the same time?

Depends on whether the level calls for it or not. Sometimes one will be enough and just have it set up to produce say.....10 groups of archers and 10 groups of warriors. Obviously, if you have other troops already, it'll only make a few of each until you've reached command limit. As soon as they start dying in battle though, your cave will be popping out more goblins for you to send out into the field.

The only thing I ever really build 2 of (with the goblin faction anyway) is fissures. That way I can have one cranking out half-troll pikers and the other making cave trolls and moutain giants.

Been a bunch of local chains mostly thusfar. And someone actually printed up this rediculous "EA preferred customer" coupon that entitles the buyer to "any game, even before release" and apparently it has worked in some places, lol.

By the way, Prey has been pretty awesome thusfar. The art design is just wonderful. Puzzles are kind of so so, and the system for dying is a bit cheap and makes dying feel far less important, but overall I'm enjoying it but taking my time since its supposed to be very short.

and to DarthPredamorph .... yeah that's what I don't like about some online play as well ... the ranking. I don't mind that it's there. But if they build rankings into their multiplay, they need to do the same for us casual gamers and build the non ranked into it too.

Ranked games take all the fun away, and that's not the reason I play video games. I play them for fun, whether I suck absolute balls at the game or not.

Finished up Prey tonight, so I figured I'd post a semi review for any on the fence.

I personally really enjoyed it. Just some pro's and con's

Pro's- Good enough story, some fun gameplay puzzles, great graphics, amazing art direction, Dieing has no consequences other then an actual fun minigame, weapons stay useful the whole game and are all quite useful and awesome looking

Con's - Dieing has virtually no consequnces, load times a bit long but this is minor to me, it's short even if you stop and smell the roses (think it took me somewhere around 7 hours), it isn't particularly hard on normal difficulty, no split screen multiplayer

Basically, if you enjoy story driven single player FPSs, I wouldn't expect you to hate this. I'd rate it up there around...well, I don't know, I personally hate WW2 FPSs so I thought CoD2 sucked (not to mention it didn't show off any of the 360s power), and I didn't bother playing PDZ - so I'd put it ahead of them, on par with Halo 2, but behind Halo 1 and my personal favorite FPS of all time, FEAR (which I'm going to actually rebuy on 360 later this year I think, its that good). I've heard the multiplayer is absolutely buggy as hell right now, so take that fwiw, as I can't play online at my school. Oh, and while I "died" a ton, it kind of is cheap since you never actually die - I was never that scared to rush a room since I knew my biggest consequence was doing a 10 second minigame that wasn't very hard at all.

It is short, and with games being as expensive as they are, some may be on the fence over the cost and the "little" you get in return. But personally, I'm always more then happy to pay 60 bucks for 7 hours of fun, then 50 bucks for something that bores me to tears but offers 100s of hours of "freedom" (GTA comes to mind for me, yet I still buy every one of them on release).

I'm glad to hear people saying good things about BFME 2 ... I'm going to have to pick that up soon. .. However, I don't like the not dying aspect of Prey. While it's kind of a cool way to sidestep the whole, having to replay the last ten minute of a game over and over again and avoid those seriously aggravatingly hard parts ... just give us a save anywhere point. That way, I don't have to worry about the repetitive crap and at the same time I have to think before going into a room guns blazing.

I personally liked COD2 ... however, the fact that there are only two achievements you can get without having to play it on Veteran or Hard, is enormous con to the game. On top of that, again this game suffers from needed save anywhere points. If you do something dumb at a certain checkpoint, you can completely end up having to redo the entire stupid mission over again just to get to that point to try something else. And that happened to me twice.

My PO, to make all of gamer people happy, the game companies need to set up 50 achievement points for each game. 25 attainable for casual and hard core gamer and everyone inbetween alike, and the other 25 for the more hard core gamers. That way, I don't feel gipped when picking up a game like COD2. What does anyone else think about that? That way, the hardcore people can have something up on the casual gamer, without the casual gamer feeling like he's getting a cold shoulder from the game company.

Truth be told those silly achievement points are like crack. I'm not hardcore and I'm having a hard time parting with games that I haven't picked up all the achievement points on. A couple I figure I'll never ever see. Like some in Kameo .. only because that's one game I can part without getting all the achievements on, and Dead or Alive, because Itagaki really has no soft spot for casual gamers at all. Still his games are dang fun, even if you start hollering like a spoiled beligerent four year old because the computer, ON NORMAL mind you, roundly hands you your @$$ repeatedly.

Any hoo ... end rant, discussion, opinion, whatever. :D

Who has NCAA '07 for the 360? What is it missing? I've heard it's missing the spring drills... Is that the case?

Missing Spring Drills, the Spring game. No Race for the Heisman. Basically missing all of the completely assanine stuff that gets boring in 4 seconds. The Spring game is crap in Xbox/PS2, so I'm not really that upset about missing it.

I got the game this morning (actually woke up before my usual time to run to best buy before class), and I LOVE it. The gameplay actually has a good mix of challenge/realism to it, for once. Numbers wise, my first game was 33-32 win over Florida St. with Miami (obviously I was Miami :)). Stats wise, I was 19-30 for 245 and 4 (don't let the 4 TD's scare you, as 2 of them were goal liners to the TE), and my RB was 13-105-2. I have a feeling It is somewhat easy to pass, but not bad easy - you finally complete stuff you are supposed to (lots of under routes where 1 guy should always be open) instead of having 9 drops a game like the current gen versions. Deep Ball is tough to complete, but not impossible. I need to get used to the new controls - I gave up 2 touchdowns because I didn't know how to sprint/change players correctly, even though I knew the buttons I have some bad habits.

Overall, I LOVE IT. So far. And I haven't even started Dynasty mode yet, which sucks up plenty of my free time during college football season in the fall. If I was given a choice of the current gen vs the next gen, based on what I've seen/played/heard, I am absolutely in love with the 360 version and would choose it every time.

Awesome, thanks for the review.

I picked it up about 10:15 so I wouldn't miss out on the copies they had available.

Are the Spring Drills/Spring games similar to Madden Mini Camp?

Picked up BFME2 yesterday...it's AWESOME. The controls are easy and the gameplay is smooth. The only problem that I have and it's pretty minor is
sometimes the 'camera' controls sometimes I get confused with where I am.
The map is conmfusing sometimes when your trying to get somewhere by only looking at the mini map. And i missed out on 2 achivements cause i couldnt find the catapults and i biut a fortress but i dodnt get credit for it.

Basically. It's a good idea, I guess, and I'm sure it will be in NCAA 08 for 360, but im more concerned with the actual gameplay, and it really feels nice imo.

One thing I both like and dislike is the way they are doing uniforms - via xbox marketplace. It's nice because I should be able to get all of the Miami uniforms (only thing teams have in the game are home/away), but it sucks in that its going to cost money. If it's like 1 dollar for All of the uni's, though, including your teams historic ones, I'll be fine with that at least.

Gonna start up my dynasty now...

I'm probably going to rent Prey and beat the game just for the achievements, other than that I don't see the point in buying it. Call of Duty is enough for me right now (multiplayer-wise) and always has been, in my opinion.

What would you compare the camera controls to, being wonky that is? To Force Commander? Those were wonky. But then again, it's not hard sometimes to get confused with where you are and the minimap, of course most of the time, when I play an RTS, I don't pay much attention to the minimap.

Half-Life 2 Confirmed for PS3, X360
Valve's acclaimed shooter comes to the next gen -- with some tasty extras.
by David Adams

July 13, 2006 - While speaking at Electronic Arts' annual summer press event, Valve Software's Gabe Newell announced that Half-Life 2 will definitely arrive for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Better yet, the ports, which are scheduled to ship simultaneously with Half-Life 2: Episode Two for the PC, will include official Half-Life 2 content available at that point, including Episode Two.

While Newell didn't announce every bit of what will be on the disc, the PS3 and X360 versions of Half-Life 2 will include adjunct titles like Half-Life 2: Episode One and the just-reconfirmed Team Fortress 2. Counter-Strike: Source is also a possibility.

Half-Life 2: Episode One and Episode Two are the first chapters of a planned trio of episodic add-ons to the original Half-Life 2, extending the game's story.

Of particular interest is a single-player game called "Portal," which will come bundled with Episode Two. Portal lets players use a special gun to create gateways similar to those used in Prey. A player could create a portal nearby, for instance, and then make a second portal on the other side of a chasm; walking through the first would transport him safely out the second. Unlike Prey, however, it seems players can dynamically create an unlimited number of portals on just about any surface available. The demo on display showed dozens of ways players could exploit this new technology both in terms of offensive and defensive strategies. Valve has yet to announce which games will use the new technology, but players can get taste of it when Episode Two ships.

Stay tuned for more details on how Half-Life 2 will arrive for next-gen consoles as soon as news comes in.

UPDATE: Electronic Arts has clarified that Counter-Strike: Source is not yet confirmed for the PS3 and X360 versions of Half-Life 2.

Here's a peek at the new look of Team Fortress;

And folks, you've heard me go on about Prey, but Portals looks to take that concept and utilize it in even grander ways... please take a moment and check out the trailer!

Prey is a lot of fun....I traded in a couple games, NBA 2k6 (played it to death) and Far Cry (just sucks, way too slow) for Prey at FYE. I really like the gameplay and the storyline. I've heard from others that it's short...and that seems to be true. I'm about 6-7 hours in and probably have another 4 to go, but I'll definitely be playing it through again, wheras with Far Cry, I didn't even want to finish playing it through the first time.

Far Cry and Perfect Dark could've been so much better shooters if they just quickened the movement of the character. I can't stand a slow-moving first person shooter, it's completely ******ed.

BFMEII online is a joke. I'm sure two-on-two matches are fun, but the one-on-one crap is garbage. There should be a pre-battle "build time" (similar to counter-strike's purchase time) where you can't do anything but stay in your starting corner and build up a castle. Five minutes would suffice long enough to build a small army and minimal fortress defenses.

I played two games in a row (and one soon after) where as soon as I finished a few fortress defenses an entire army came out of nowhere. That's not how you play this game, in my opinion.

No, that is, and unfortunately you, much like me, suck at doing RTSs online (I tried playing on battle.net and most people would quit because I wasn't good enough to even give them a challenge).

I don't see how you're supposed to do anything other than sit there and make an entire army of just troops since that's exactly what everyone else does and a few minutes into the game an entire army is already attacking my fortress.

If that's all people are gonna do.....**** that. That's not what got me into playing RTS games.

Huh? Might be something with your display, as it looks fine here and is actually the only 100% correction version for 16:9 TV's (PC uses some sort of bizarre scaling that doesn't work quite right).

It really does. 9/12 on the release date for NHL '07...gotta put in a request for a couple days off at work for this one;)
I've already reserved it and I'm really looking forward to it. The early reviewers at IGN are calling it the "best looking sports game on the console" already. They were also blown away by the new puck physics and goalie animations. Apparently the puck is very lifelike and caroms and rebounds in completely lifelike ways. I'm sure I'll pick up 2K7 as well but I'm not that impressed with what I've seen so far on that title. Anyways, for you hockey videogame fans keep this page bookmarked. It's EA Canada's development blog on IGN and they're doing some cool updates: http://blogs.ign.com/nhl_07

I really hope the gameplay is stepped up too. I've preferred the 2k series for hockey the last few years, just a bit tighter gameplay IMO.

Although EA's was pretty good last year...

71" Samsung DLP (HLS-7178). Basically the greatness of this story started when we wanted to clean out the basement because it was about 30 years behind the rest of my house (a shag rug from the 70's, orange/red couches from the 70's, a 25 inch black/white tv). It was the nicest room in the house....but 30 years ago.

So we start cleaning it out like 8 months ago (it's been a long process) and as things start to shape up me and my friends slowly start realizing the potential this room has. It's a decent size, it's wide open and it begs to be turned into a gaming room. Plan A was to simply move my 65" Samsung downstairs and call it a day. But then I started hearing about how 1080p was the new thing to have, followed by me hearing about how HDMI was the wave of the future and all of a sudden a new tv sounded like the way to go.

These are someone elses pics of him receiving the HLS-7178:

That box is sitting in my garage right now. I want to open it up but I don't have the manpower currently.
