Well, I haven't beat it yet, but the "twist" was pretty disappointing. There was all this buildup, and then it just didn't deliver. It was exactly what I was hoping it wouldn't be. I was begging the 360 "PLEASE DEAR GOD NO! SURPRISE ME! PLEASE SURPRISE ME!".

The game is still great fun, I just care a lot less about the story now.

Should I get the Halo 3 Legendary Edition just for the helmet & display (and the game, of course), or should I get it for all those reasons plus putting the helmet on my cat's head and taking a crapload of pics?

Getting it on midnight won't be an issue for me, because I'll be in California all week long. Probably going to get it from amazon (I have $75 worth of certificates, but wonder if using it all for Halo 3 is "wasting" it). By getting it online I won't have to stand in line with all the crazies, which is nice.

My son bought it so I played for a bit on Saturday. It's a decent game. I do like COD2 better as well though I am by no means an expert on FPS. I do like the fact that your weapons upgrade as you use them. Not very realisitic I suppose but cool nonetheless.

I was finally able to get the COD4 beta code to work last night...due to internet speed issues, it took about two hours to download, hence I didn't get to play it. The internet people are coming by today to tell me I have to (1) "upgrade" my service, (2) "upgrade" my modem (it is 6 years old, though), or (3) due to soiling of their pants, excuse themselves after seeing that I have an iMac. Good grief, the internet is still the internet whether your on a PC or a Mac. Dumb sunsabltches...

Ever since they changed their name to Suddenlink, the internet service suddenly stops working properly. What a ripoff. Their the only cable internet game in town, and I'm not doing DSL.

Rant aside, if my service is back up to speed (pun intended), I'll be playing the beta. Does anyone know how long the beta will be available?

It's basically the same as the old one, only the volumn control (not sure if there's mute) is on a little bud on the wire rather than right at the controller.

I recommended the wireless headset if you can find it for cheap. :)

The leveling system is going to make COD 4 very addictive. COD 4 might end up being my game of choice instead of Halo.

It only took about 40 mins. for COD 4 beta to download. I started the download right when I got home.

Yes.....I actually play Lair. The only awful part of the game is the fact that you can only move by using the six axis part of the controller. It definitely takes some getting used to...and can be very frustrating. But...once you get the hang of it....it's not bad. Personally...I just look for the largest enemy army on the battlefield....drop down right in the middle of them...land....then proceed to swipe, bite, and light them on fire.....good times :) It's almost like playing the Dragon in a D&D game. The game has gorgeous graphics...and the sound is great as well. If only the game had the option to change the controls to the sticks, instead of using 6-axis, I'd definitely buy it. As of now...it's only cost me $8 to fly around...kill dragons....bite men in half....swipe dozens of men to the side as if I was Sauron in LOTR...and light people on fire and watch them run around screaming....not bad at all.

That's what I'm hoping for. Right now the sticks are used for nothing except to change the camera angle, look behind you, etc. Hopefully they add an update that will allow you to control the dragon via the sticks. If they did...I'd go and acually buy it.

As for your assessment of the control scheme, I couldn't disagree with you more. The controls are great and easy to use, especially if you've played R6V.

now just try to keep up with the marksman and expert challenges with other weapons. the M4 Carbine is a nice one I might suggest

I might burn out from playing halo too much. If I do, I'll get COD4. Otherwise, I think I'll save it for after the holiday season. While it is amazingly fun, I can see myself getting bored with it. Once you get all the attachments and stuff, it'd just get repetitive. Let's face it, that's what's hooking everyone right now, trying all the different variations. Eventually you'll just end up picking a class, and be done with it.

The actual gameplay has little that's new. While this is the Beta (and I KNOW someone's gonna call me a hypocrite on this), the graphics don't feel like much of a leap. I guess it's because there's too much realism that any kind of detail they've added just kinda gets muddled. Although the screenshots of certain parts of the campaign look good. It just doesn't have a unique look and feel to it.

My prediction is that this game will be an 8-8.5/10, and at that level, the games are highly enjoyable, but you can burn out quick playing them, and I usually end up trading them in within a couple months.

While the WW2 horse has been beaten to death, there's very little you can do with Modern Warfare games as well. BF2, anyone? Counterstrike? R6V? The perk system's glamour will fade.

Enjoy it while it lasts though, because it is fun.

Y'see, I'm the opposite. I'm still playing halo to this day, and I got rid of COD2 many moons ago. I enjoyed the campaign, but the multiplayer just wasn't enough for me. And after all of the perks and attachments are unlocked, it would be the same old multiplayer. Even with perks and attachments, they don't affect the core gameplay that much. Now, a game like Shadowrun had plenty of little extras that greatly affected gameplay.

I'm not saying this isn't a fun game, I'm not saying it isn't a good game, but they're just putting different icing on the same cake.

It was a blast playing w/ everyone last night. Last night's experience was a totally different one from my first night...more campers, a lot more campers last night. I admit, I've not played much Halo. I played Halo 2 once for about an hour and it didn't appeal much to me. But I played COD for an even shorter period (about half hour) and it was COD3.

I will give HALO 3 a shot, but I'm seriously not expecting it to hold my attention much unless the multiplayer is just outstanding. But after playing COD4 beta, I can say that this will easily be taking up a huge portion of my gaming time splitting me between Madden and Vegas for the most part.

Y'see, I'm the opposite. I'm still playing halo to this day, and I got rid of COD2 many moons ago. I enjoyed the campaign, but the multiplayer just wasn't enough for me. And after all of the perks and attachments are unlocked, it would be the same old multiplayer. Even with perks and attachments, they don't affect the core gameplay that much. Now, a game like Shadowrun had plenty of little extras that greatly affected gameplay.

I'm not saying this isn't a fun game, I'm not saying it isn't a good game, but they're just putting different icing on the same cake.

Right on man, i know i'll be playing halo a good while, but i guess that all depends on how many of my friends keep playing, i usually don't play online unless my friends are on, if they aren't, then i'm usually just playing the story mode. Maybe that's why i got tired of it. Don't get me wrong, i still love halo 2, i'm just glad this is the last installment as far as this story goes anyway. On the other hand, Halo Wars looks like it might be an awesome game, especially if you have online multiplayer.

In the first couple weeks, I think you will see a lot of hardcore players getting mixed in with casual players. Hopefully, you won't have a team of hardcore guys against a team of casual guys; there should be an even mix.

But after that time period, the hardcore players will level up beyond the casual players, and then it'll even out. There will also be so many damn players in the matchmaking pool that getting matched up with players at your level shouldn't be a problem.

It was a blast playing w/ everyone last night. Last night's experience was a totally different one from my first night...more campers, a lot more campers last night. I just wanted to hide in a corner cause I had no idea where to go...no idea where the "good spots" were...no idea which weapon to pick (first time on the city map I played with a sniper rifle :o ). Not only that...but I was starting without any advantages...and I kept getting killed from guys with laser-dot sights from a mile away.

However....after staying up till 7am....making it to level 14 (I think)...and unlocking a bunch of the "extras"....I think I'll be able to contribute a lot better tonight. I love the sniper with the silencer combo.

Ha yeah, that's how i felt too. On my feelings of Halo 3 and COD4, and about wanting to hide in a corner :D

Kill Cam pretty much eliminates the effectiveness of the silencer as far as I'm concerned.

It still isn't that bad...as long as you aren't in a very clear spot...like in a barn....near a vehicle....on a bridge...by the gas station...etc.

Beat BioShock recently. The best single player game for the 360 in my opinion. Picked up RB6 Vegas as well. My surround sound also blew (doesn't have output for some reason), so that freed up some slots for my HD connection

Also, always always always switch to your pistol instead of reloading, then make sure the area's clear, then reload. At least 1/3 of the time I die, I die while reloading.

yep... just sit there and let it do it's thing. Takes about 10 minutes, so leave it on the menu screen there and go take out the trash or something. It's only happened to me twice during the beta

Supposedly there's going to be a health regeneration feature. Good news for those that had a hard time playing the first one. Bad news for hardcore extremists. :D

I never actually finished the first one. I got to the twelth chapter and took a short little break from it to play the Morrowind: GOTY edition and it ended up crashing my Xbox. i've not tried the silencer on any primary weapon yet... i just can't seem to take off my red dot sight and go back to iron sights

Yeah I was using the red sight at first and really liked it. Then I unlocked the silencer and started using that. I expected the red sight to be on there along with the silencer which it wasn't. That was disappointing. But the silencer seems to give me more accuracy overall. That along with the Perk that gives you more accuracy without hitting the L-trigger.

did you notice the tip where you can double click your reload button, to set off your C4 if you have your gun equipped?

I just wished there was a sense of friendly fire at times. I mean last night we were at Crash and the entire other team was pretty much on the roof of that building with the fence around the roof. Well as soon as I got up there one of them throw C4 and blew me up. If friendly fire was on he would have taken out his entire team with that move.

I've discovered the mini-uzi, and it is sweet. I don't know how I ever used the Skorpion. I've gotten the silencer for it, but honestly, I really think the Red Dot is the best attachment. For any weapon. If you stick to short bursts, you can pick off anyone at pretty much any range. You can't do this with a silencer. And anything that prevents you from using an opportunity to get a kill gets nixed in my book. Even on maps like Vacant, I find myself hating the silencer on the long hallways, or when fighting people outside from the little warehouse. I know I'd be getting more kills with the Red Dot. And if you're really worried about stealth, the UAV jammer works just fine.

Even on maps like Vacant, I find myself hating the silencer on the long hallways, or when fighting people outside from the little warehouse. I know I'd be getting more kills with the Red Dot. And if you're really worried about stealth, the UAV jammer works just fine.

that is correct...the UAV jammer is used so that you don't show up when someone on the other team launches their UAV Radar (after 3 kills)

the silencer is so that you dont show up at all when you fire your weapon

if you take your silencer off...and have the UAV jammer equipped....you will still show up on the map every time you fire...but you will not be detected when the enemy launches their UAV.

Now if you use both...you one stealthy mo-fo :cool:

Yeah we were. I was getting like 30 kills with under 10 deaths on them each round, until the end when it was more 16 kills with 15 deaths. Although that was on the Overgrown map where they were all hiding on roofs and stuff. They were pretty easy to figure out they always went for that same building on crash so you just sit on the stairs and mow them down as the try to take it back over.

I wish I didn't have to watch the kill cam.......it just adds salt to the wound. Everytime I come around the corner and seeminly go down from one shot to the leg....I get to watch the kill camera and see that it wasn't actually one shot.....he shot me 5 times.

The one that really chapped my azz the most....I see someone crouched down looking out a window....sneek up behind him...point blank...hit the melee (knife)...watch my knife swing out and seemingly go right through his head........then 1/2 second later...I'm dead watching the kill cam. Which showed him turning around...and popping off 3 shots while I was still 2 feet away from him...and I never even swung my knife :o It almost makes me want to go out and spend $100/month on a kickazz, never have lag connection.

I also think the hiccups with lag are what prevent most from being able to "sprint".

In a lot of rooms....I'll know the lag is bad when I click the button in to sprint...and he literally runs for 1 step before slowing down again because the signal isn't consistent.

I get issues with the run button as well at times. Although sometimes it is because you are tired or something.

Although I loved the kid we played I think it was last night that was talking he had the endurance perk just so he could get the running challenge faster. I was just thinking dude its just a freaking beta. It is all going to be erased once the game comes out anyway.

Also as I said last night that I thought it is pretty sad that you already see people glitching and it is only the beta.

You should always be moving constantly. Even as the sniper, get a kill then move. So being detected when you shoot is no big deal (unless you're using an LMG, hosing down an area). When you really don't want to be detected is when you're moving, because you want to be able to flank and get them in the rear, etc.

At least, that is my preference. Just how I feel about it. I can see the benefits to silencers, I'd just rather be able to peck away at someone from range, which happens just as often as close encounters.

Supposedly, they added new heatsinks to the repaired ones. They didn't do this in the past when a repair was being done.

This is a weird question, but does anyone have the Transfer cable that came with the 120gb hard drive? or did anyone order one for free when they got the elite? I was just curious if anyone has one, if they'd let me borrow it, i just bought the halo 3 edition of the 360 and i want to transfer all my data to the Halo 3 hard drive. If anyone is willing to let me borrow it, and of course i'll send it right back, i'll pay for shipping and i'd def help you out anyway i can. Unless its billy. :D

Essentially they are the same, but the Hard drive from the halo edition is a different color and looks better with it's original system. I'd get one off ebay but people are charging close to $50+ for those suckers.

All you need is a Mem Card. I also got the Halo 3 360 today and had to move over all my gamesaves and arcade games. Just get like the 512 mb card and move your gamertag to it and leave it on the card till the very end and then start moving your saves to it. Turn off your console put the Halo hard drive in and move the saves from the card to the hard drive. It takes a little time if you have a lot of saves, but it works.

That's a good idea, but i don't have a memory card. Are they cheap used? i can't justify paying $50 for something i'll never use after i do all that.
