the thing with teams in halo that i don't like is 1 you have to press the button to talk to the team and 2 either half the people forget that or they just plain are not talking. it gets boring about the only thing i like doing is slayer team slayer and territories

Have to start from the first level. I know because I joined up with some friends for the last half of the game on legendary and didnt get the achievement and have had a hard time looking for people to do the first half or whole game on legendary.

as long as you've played every level you can start where ever you want but you have to finish every level on legendary to get the legendary achivement (the heroic will also unlock) you also have to start the levels from the begining and finish all the way through the level to unlock the achivement. when i went through with a friend of mine his wouldn't unlock until the cut scene from the start of the next level was done where mine unlocked at the beginging of the cut scene

Well the push to talk thing only goes into effect if you have more than 4 people on a team for some reason. I know in ranked team matches that you dont have to push to talk.

So what does everyone think of all of the demos available?


Conan - having a PS3 also....I played Heavenly Sword and this game seems to be of the same kind of hack and slash mode. You can counter attacks if timed right. Very bloody. Tons of diff attack combos. I thought it was OK at best. I'll probably rent it when it comes out...just cause Conan is a badazz and I'd like to see the story.

Jericho - I'd give a review if I could have seen a damn thing. Too damn dark....the only way I could tell where the F to go was by using that one chick's "blood" power....it provides some light. Just another FPS in a long list of FPS available on the 360. I'll pass on this one.

Simpsons - simple gameplay....goofy....great commentary, at least on the demo from the channel 6 news guy. Some of things he said....actually made me laugh while I was playing. The graphics really feel as if you're in a Simpsons episode. I'll probably rent it to play through it once.


Looney Tunes AA - if I had kids...this would be a great game for them. As with the Simpsons game.....they did an awesome job turining 2D characters into 3D models. I love that little Marvin Martian guy. As cool as it is to play with the nastalgic characters I grew up watching as a kid...I fear it would get extremely boring....very quickly. Great game for your kids....if you have any.....and they're under the age of 8.


Crash of the Titans - although many were saying that they thought this was a "fighting" game because of the descriptions given...it is not. It is still a platform game...like the other Crash Bandicoot games...only in this one...you can take control of "titans" and do major damage. You almost HAVE to take control of a Titan when you come up against a couple of other Titans.....as Crash gets squashed fairly easy. Being a huge fan of the Crash series when I was younger.....I really enjoyed this goofy game. It's not difficult...nor challenging....nor the most graphically enhanced.....but it was fun o just mash buttons and run and jump over obstacles. I'll give it a rent.

Well...there are....but, I am sick of the single player. Besides...the single player Co-Op game has turned into a rush to see who can get to the enemy group first and chuck grenades. We have to get our Meta-Score up....we have to get that achievement. It kills the game. When 3 people are like...uh...where are we supposed to go.....and there's one guy already a 1/4 of the map away...killing..and rushing...and killing...and rushing some more...it kinda kills the whole Co-Op experience.

And the multiplayer.....there aren't as many as you think. There's one group that team up.....but then again...they have their "group" already. And they are more about playing ranked matches to raise their level then they are about playing social matches with a bunch of boardies....which there probably isn't enough on to play anyways.

Each night...there's like 8-10 people on my friends list playing Halo3.....but they are all doing different things. I think so far...we've only had two nights where a bunch of boardies all got together to kill each other.


Mind you...I'm not complaining that people are more interested in chasing achievements or "ranks" or have certain groups they like to play with....I'm just saying that I think my time with this game is up....that's all.

See that is peoples mistake then. I find it a lot easier to get points in co-op by hanging back and getting head shots. I try to avoid rushing in there like rambo. It will only lead to you getting killed and losing most of the points that you gained from rushing in there.

I'll speak to this, at least as 1 of "that group". The 1 night I participated in a few games with the "old school" boardies that played Gears of War, it was atrocious. We were split into teams, and it seemed the only time I got a team that even speak to me was if KillaB, Broncs, Chugga, or Avsfan was with me. No one seemed to be working with a team at all, it seemed that everyone was playing solo Slayer, which is how 90% of the online community seems to play anyways---trying to get their personal stats up. If I'm going to be put on a team, I want a team that works together. Now, if it was just a side effect of some people just not having played any Halo or Halo 2 before (I know many of you didn't have the original Xbox), that's cool. But for me, personally, if I'm only going to get 3-4 hours of game time in here and there, I want to be in a game where I've got a team that works and communicates together. It's not just this game, it's any game. And, for that reason alone---I loathe Lone Wolves, as well. :D

While we never got an answer from the guys who have played Halo before...it was apparent on the scoreboards as to who knew what they should be doing...and who was clueless as to the point of the match.

You can keep the games as long as you want which would save you from buying them and then send them back when you are done. So you wouldnt have had to buy these games and trade them back in a few weeks later losing money.

I do rent...just about everything. As a matter of fact...Halo3 is the only game I currently own for both...my 360 and PS3.

I was thinking of stopping the Blockbuster thing though and going with one of those gamefly type things. Only thing that bugs me is the 7 day turnaround. That means I have to wait a week after a game comes out...and then pray that it's still in stock.

At Blockbuster....I can walk in and get it that day. However...BB costs more and you can only have them for 2 weeks (before getting charged).

Getting a "complete" is going to be a huge task...unless you get a free for all room where they are all trying to help each other get the achievements. Which I've run into a lot of lately. They get pissed because I don't go to the center of the map and allow them to kill me so they can unlock certain achievements. I run around killing them as soon as I see them :D It's the funniest to go and get a shotgun...then go to the middle where they are....stand there for a second like you're playing along.....let the one guy start killing to get his achievements...and then we comes towards you...."blam"...you end his kill streak :D Boy do they get pissed when you do that.

Halo 3's Matchmaking Playlists, just like Halo 2's, are dynamic and ever-changing entities. Even now in the perilous Bungie towers, we're looking at new hoppers, gametypes and modes to test for future iterations and changes of these playlists. Multiplayer Lead Tyson Green and test wunderkind David Gasca sent the following list of changes to us -- and these changes are live now:



* Big Team Battle matches are now 16-player affairs.
* In the Team Slayer playlist, the appearance of Shotty Snipers has been greatly reduced.
* Now, when players veto Shotty Snipers, the game that results from the veto will not be Shotty Snipers.
* In one-sided VIP matches, the attacking team will now see a waypoint for the VIP they are hunting.
* In Lone Wolves, Slayer gametypes will appear more frequently.

LOL. Good stuff. I've been reading all about "achievement boosting" on the xbox.com halo 3 forum. Some of those guys are really tweaked that people go into a game asking for help to get achievements. One guy actually wrote a ten paragraph ***** fit about it. I don't see what the big deal is, and if they hate it so much they should do what you did. If it bothered me that much I'd get some grenades and/or a rocket launcher and blast away. But it doesn't bother me so I'd probably let them go about their business.

From what I've been reading, the deal with shotty snipers should make a lot of people happy. Too bad about lone wolves though, I like playing oddball. Nothings more fun than one hit killing people by cracking them upside the head with a skull.

I remember Cory asking, and I did answer, because I was on his team during the VIP Match. When we then did the CTF match, I tried to coordinate with my team. "Who's over here", "where are they", and other questions, but it was I who didn't get a response. It was just a balls out match, and it was just like playing with the random people online who think every match is about kill counts. Again, though, I understand if people just haven't played the game, but the lack of communication is what confused me, because any team game, whether Gears, Call of Duty, Team Fortress, etc, would require communication.

I hear people say it's all about the "fun".....but that's complete bull*****......it's all about the competition and finishing first on the leader board to come here and gloat the nex day. It's all about being the first to get the achievements. I just wish the people who did care about those things would stop pretending that they don't.

I just want to win, that's it, plain & simple. Player has 38 points and counting....almost ready to claim victory...I see him running...I'm shooting at him.....great...I will kill him and the game will live on....NOPE....some azzclown just melee'd me from behind...allowing the guy with the skull to escape....and win the match.

Same goes for King of the Hill games. There's always some ******...who's making no attempt to get to the "hill" to win the game....and instead sits way back and randomly kills those making their way to the hill.

Oaktown, you just summarized nearly every Oddball game I've played in Halo 3. It doesn't compute at all to me, but these people are doing it for some reason. Nice mention of King of the Hill, too, because my experience has been the same in those, too (Since the concept is the same).

Do it on snowbound....that's where i get "sniped" most of the time during "hills".....all of the other maps are rather difficult to do long distance sniping due to where the "hills" pop up.

Hey Pyrrhonist sorry for not getting back to that message you sent me the other day....I just had a couple of people over before the game and they wanted to see how Halo was, never was going to be on for very long.

I'm not much of an online player of Halo3. I'm psyched that it's out but I'm a LAN guy, I don't really like the online experience all that much. Never knowing who you are going to play, never knowing what game mode is going to pop up, never knowing the map, settings, etc etc. And then to top it off people vetoing everything that isn't slayer.

I've been spoiled by games like Gears, R6, Ghost Recon, etc. Theres just something utterly boring about jumping up in the air, tossing grenades, and rinsing and repeating 25 times and then having the garbage man come through and clean up the mess afterwards because theres no where to hide in the middle of an open field. Regardless of how bored I was with R6, how completely and utterly unbalanced Gears of War was, and how few people actually picked up Ghost Recon I'll always love the fact that in the middle of a fire fight if I wasn't on the winning side I could just dip down below a concrete slab and live to fight another day.

I need cover in my shooting games now. I'm used to it and I like it.

After playing some matches yesterday, I really don't like how you can see the VIP on team objective now. It's just way too easy to just go run and kill someone. How often does one person not die in a 3 minute match? You can't "hide" anymore b/c they know where you're at. It's different if they would give you an overshield like in Big Team Battle. If there's an overshield, show us where they're at, if not, then let them stay hidden. It's just stupid.

Yep. I've been hearing static remarks about The Orange Box. Apparently HL2 is exactly like the original Xbox version (low frame rate, etc.) and there are some minor lag issues with TF2 online; however, some people are claiming that because there aren't that many hosts available yet, the lag should clear up when people find closer hosts -- if that makes sense

I was gonna pick it up today. But I don't think I'll be wasting $64.00 on it. So, I'll be waiting for the used copies to flood Amazon

I've heard from some friends that are playing it that:

Episodes 1 and 2 are cool, especially if you've never played HL2
Portal is fun as hell but confusing until you "start thinking right"
TF2 is awesome, but some lag issues (what was said above about host selection being skimpy contributing to lag makes sense since the game is not run on dedicated servers. the players are the hosts. so if your host is close enough, lag shouldn't be any worse than normal)

It's kind of disheartening (and not just here) to see so many turn against The Orange Box. Half-Life 2 is still an amazing game. Hell, what do people expect from a 3 year old game? I suppose these are the same people who get pissed that XBLA games aren't remastered with brand new graphics? Why the HELL does Dig Dug look like an 80s game!!? :p This package will still remain one of the better values to come to a console in some time (aside from Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition & Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition). I have read, too, that IGN's review is off-base. Wow, and I used to trust them on reviews, too.

It's cool, man. I am the same as you---I prefer localized LAN games. The guys we used to get Halo & Halo 2 LAN parties together with knew how to play the game, knew that Oddball & King of the Hill aren't Slayer, and, you can always have a BBQ to go along with the gaming. So Cory and I stayed up until 6 am (eastern) playing Portals. Some crazy isht. Some of the puzzles were driving us mad...while some of them were so easy...we still couldn't see them because we were looking for the "intricate" answer.

Cory....you haven't tried ***** until you go back and try them on "advanced". THAT....is crazy and will make you want to pull out your hair. Same "maps"....with less "portal" options......it's a ***** and a half.

and yes....since we've beat it....you can start a "NEW" game and choose which level you'd like to start out on. You can also change the game type from normal to advanced to limited timed to limited portals to limited steps. So each map can be done on 5 different gametypes........I guess they were going for a replayability factor.

Got Orange Box today.

Tried TF2 first, lag was atrocious on the server I was on, but Valve games tend to have crap netcode for a patch or 2, so I'm not too worried there. The different classes seem just awesome.

Next I started HL2 (never played all the way through). It's definitely not up to par graphically with HL2 on a maxed on PC, but it still looks fine. Also, it's just a fun game in general, so I'm hoping to finish it sometime by next weekend.

Finally, gave Portal a go. What I did was simple, but it really seems very cool. Look forward to playing it.

I can't recommend the package highly enough; value of the year at the very least.

Played a bunch of TF2 last night. Takes a bit of getting used to. Takes a while to find a game that doesn't lag out. But once you get past those first two things.....boy is it fun.

Graphics - looks like you're running around in "The Incredibles"...but there is blood (yay)

Sound - dunno....I had to turn it way down. That's the cost of gaming at 4am and your wife is sleeping.

Gameplay - fun. I'll use Halo3 as my comparison. Completely different then Halo. While in Halo3....you can "team" up to complete your objectives.In this game....you must be a team. You need a medic. You need an engineer. You need a scout. You need a Heavy Gunner. The piecing together of all the parts makes for a great experience. Although the Spy (who takes the name and look of one of your teammates) is very frustrating to deal with. But he's a blast to use :D All game modes revolve around capture points or capture the flag...even further pressing the "teamwork" function. There is not much equality among the classes. A heavy gunner will mow down a scout in an instant...while the scout would need to hit the heavy gunner for like 20 seconds to kill him. But this is whats awesome about the game. You must work together...you must plan your classes....you must execute a strategy. For example......a Heavy Gunner....with a Medic following him making him Invulnerable is a nasty offensive tactic. While an engineer.....keeping his turret running...with a Medic keeping him running....is a nasty defensive tactic.

Overall - I like the game.

But as with all "online" shooters...I've already run into some real ****** bags.....and guys that quit the minute their team is losing.....and terribly laggy games. If you find a game with cool people and no lag.....it can be a lot of fun.

No, it means it won't ever be done by BioWare ever again, since LucasArts can't use an EA-owned developer to make a game. Plus, while Mass Effect is still on track for the 360 next month, the future installments destinations are now in doubt. We could see them cross-platformed, but anything now is just speculation.

I've been sniped a few times. But it was when I was standing still...like an idiot. I'm sure there's certain spots that would be advantageous to the sniper......but once someone knows you're shooting at them...good luck....they move around way too fast. But then again...i guess it depends on the class you're aiming at. A heavy doesn't move fast at all.

As the demoman...you start with the grenade launcher.......hit the RB button one time...and it will switch your gun to the sticky grenade gun...then use RT to fire sticky grenades ( up to 8 grenades before the first one explodes by you trying to put another one down) and then you use the LT to trigger them.

So i finally beat Halo 3 the other day, i think in total it only took me a couple days, only because i would only play an hour or so at a time, but i must say, i'm severely disappointed but not suprised at how this story ended. The whole story itself just felt empty to me, and kind of boring, and it also just felt rushed for some reason, like they wanted to just get it over with so they went with whatever they could think of and didn't put much thought into it. The ending just straight up was stupid, what a ****ty way to end it. Good job ***** this one up bungie. I haven't played much of the multiplayer yet, i will soon though, but i will say the multiplayer is 10x better then single player.

I think as far as stories and First person shooters go, Bioshock take's the cake, story and graphics wise. You fail me halo, but that's no surprise to me.

I'll still do them, but I won't feel as pressed to do so. So now, social gaming can be mixed in, as well. :D Now, perhaps, I can get over to Lackluster to rent The Orange Box, so I can finish the quest through HL2 I never finished over a year ago on my brother's PC.

Yay! I finally made the leap to plasma. Philips 42" 720p.

Demo Review time.

Jericho- Creepy, good atmosphere, not necessarily terrible voice acting. The little intro video was kinda dumb. Not much was shown in the demo. This looks like one of those niche games that don't really break ground, but would be kinda fun for horror fans.

Blade Storm- Did you enjoy Dynasty Warriors? How about Samurai Warriors? This is right up your alley then, with a little bit more strategy. Still pretty mindless, still crappy voice acting, nothing special with the graphics, and the plot will be pretty crappy, but it WILL be very addicting.

Conan- The graphics have me on the fence. The environments and character models are pretty bland, but those facial animations are amazing! Lotsa bones. If you enjoyed the fights in Prince of Persia, you'd love this game. It was a lot of fun, but not really groundbreaking.

FEAR Files- In the middle of this now, and could really care less. The AI is still fantastic, and the slow mo is kinda fun. The graphics that were so amazing before are now really dull. The environments are TERRIBLE. The textures and lighting are crap compared to whats out now. The particle effects are good. I look at this the way others looked at Halo 2 for Vista.

I was gonna grab the 42" 1080p LCD from Westinghouse at Best Buy for $989. I saw the price yesterday, then came back today with the family, and they ended the sale. Now, if the person I was talking to about the TV had told me that, I would have bought it on the spot.

Really pissed about that, having had the manager give me some BS spiel about "we'll refund you the difference if it goes on sale in the next 60 days", and giving him the finger with my eyes and walking out. I went to Sam's Club to pick up some chicken. Right in front they had my new tv on display for $990ish. I'm glad I decided to walk out of Best Buy.

i also tried the simpsons game and i'm gonna be getting that game as soon as it's out the camera controls were a bit annoying mainly becuase if i was against a building it wouldn't move through the building the game cliches' were great the only thing i couldn't find was the 9th duff beer token. i really liked the presentation of the game kent brochman was funny the mini krusty lines were funny it really is like watching a show

Indeed, it doesn't. I know we've said that time and time again, but it bears repeating. I still only got to Level 21, but KillaB and I ran some Team Doubles games the other night/morning. I mean we had a few games we won around 25-10, 25-12. A couple times, the opposing team had a member at -11 or -12. Of course, we would've won more, but Killa likes to run in like a fool at times. :D :p

Zero probelms on my xbox ever since I sent it in. It's been about a year and a half since I had to send it away too.

HL2 is the hotness, I can't believe I let it sit on my backlog for so long (I never beat HL1, i got stuck at one part about 2/3rds of the way through, was so sick of playing through with the **** graphics (didn't try it til 2005, to beat it, I mean, I bought it in 2001 or so)), but the game is so much fun and looks great. It's a bit vague at times, but for some reason I can't put it down for very long.

I'm such a sci-fi FPS *****. Halo 3 done, pounding through HL2 now, then I'm gonna finally play Resistance: FOM. Jericho looks amazing but the game itself seemed kind of crappy; Timeshift also looked very good and was a bit more fun gameplay wise.
