Yeah it's pretty huge, but amazingly enough....light as a feather. I just got done setting it up but no pics yet or in the near future....my digital camera is shot, we basically threw it out yesterday and after spending a bit on monster cables, monster power supplies, etc I'm really not in the market for a $100+ digital camera. I'm going to try to get the old one to work but who knows, that things so hit or miss it's ridiculous.

I ALMOST went and picked one up last year but opted to wait and went the cheap route and just bought a 32" flat screen SD tv. and put the old 27" in my bedroom. I have the classic retro collection going on there since I have the SNES,Dreamcast, and soon to be coming NES. hooked up on that :) for relaxing classic gaming goodness while laying in bed. May get a Saturn and perhaps a Genesis (or X'eye) still debating on that prospect.
When I do get a "bigger" HDtv I may go for a 42" or something since I'm in an apartment.

71" Samsung DLP (HLS-7178). Basically the greatness of this story started when we wanted to clean out the basement because it was about 30 years behind the rest of my house (a shag rug from the 70's, orange/red couches from the 70's, a 25 inch black/white tv). It was the nicest room in the house....but 30 years ago.

So we start cleaning it out like 8 months ago (it's been a long process) and as things start to shape up me and my friends slowly start realizing the potential this room has. It's a decent size, it's wide open and it begs to be turned into a gaming room. Plan A was to simply move my 65" Samsung downstairs and call it a day. But then I started hearing about how 1080p was the new thing to have, followed by me hearing about how HDMI was the wave of the future and all of a sudden a new tv sounded like the way to go.

Huh? Might be something with your display, as it looks fine here and is actually the only 100% correction version for 16:9 TV's (PC uses some sort of bizarre scaling that doesn't work quite right).

My friend actually just bought a 42" hdtv.....he lives a couple hundred miles away though so I haven't had a chance to see it. But from what he's said it's amazing. As for an update on my tv....

I finally hooked up my 360 literally a couple of minutes after I posted my last post in here yesterday. I can safely say it's 10 times better then my old tv. The colors are so rich it's amazing....it handles shadows/blacks so well something my old tv really couldn't do (dungeon crawling in Oblivion was pretty difficult). Funny story....3 of my friends were passed out on my couch (1 on the lawn but we finally got him inside) when the dish guy came today to hook up an HD Receiver. Unfortunately my introduction to HD programming came by watching Catwoman...but Halle Berry's never looked better.

As for the price of the tv. It was only $3500. The MSRP for the thing was $5000 but because of an inventory problem I was able to get it for $1500 off. To make a long story short I ordered an HLR-7178 (2005 samsung model) for $3,500 (clearenced because 2006 models were coming out) but it was sold out earlier that day and they didn't update their database. So I got a call from the company saying how sorry they were about not having the tv in stock and they basically asked me if they could make it up to me by allowing me to pay the same price but for the 2006 model. So the 2006 model goes for $5,000....but since I was buying a clearenced 2005 model for $3,500 I basically got a $1,500 discount.

I'm very particular about having matching names. It's just something I've always believed in when buying electronics. I already had a monster power center....so when it comes to wires I keep them all uniform. Monster just happens to be the name that I run with.

Good for you. It was a brilliant leap to take. You're completely right about wasting a HDTV for so long. I had a HDTV for 3 years before I ever even made use of the "hd" part of my tv.

Alot of people are like that though....the 360 was really their first jump into hd.

From a graphical standpoint if you are going to judge the performance of your 360 on your first game (NCAA Football) prepare to be slightly disappointed...and if you aren't disappointed prepare to be absolutely amazed when you pop in a disk other then NCAA. Don't get me wrong, NCAA is a great game, very fun, and has solid graphics...but I use the word "solid" for a reason. There are just some graphical phases of the game that make you wonder why EA spent so much time rendering the dimples of the football only to completely neglect some glaring issues. The "living stadium" idea is absolutely brilliant, but a few of the edges can be choppy. Just overall realize the Xbox360 is an amazing system, NCAA just isn't it's strongest game in the graphical department. Dead Rising won't be the greatest in the graphics department either. If you really wanna show off pick up NBA2K6

Something is off about NCAA 07. I enjoy playing it, but I've never been wowed by it like I was when I played it on the PS2. But I'll continue to play it until Madden comes out. I'm just hoping that Madden doesn't look the same as NCAA does.

I hadn't played a boxing game since Evander Holyfield's boxing on the Genesis, but Fight Night Rd3 is my favorite game on the 360. I played a demo and actually bought the 360 b/c of Fight Night. A pretty game that's fun.

Kameo is amazing....for $20 thats the steal of the century.

But I refuse to ever back anyone ever purchasing Perfect Dark Zero. I just don't have it in me to lie to someones face like that and tell them they should buy it. Perfect Dark Zero is one of the worst games I've played in a long time. At first the game was just boring to me....but after further review it's not just boring it's an absolute piece of trash of a game.

It's story mode is horrible and often times doesn't even really make sense it' just seems like they are throwing enemies at you for no apparent reason. The enemy AI is downright awful. You could be hiding behind a wall taking cover and the enemy AI instead of finding cover will walk right to you so you can blast them with a shotgun.

But thats not where the game truly shines it's endless amount of suck. Look no further then the multiplayer to see why it sucks beyond belief. If you shoot point blank with a shotgun it's not a guarenteed kill....actually it's RARELY a kill. Headshots are a heck of alot like a tabletop rpg because they are all a roll of the dice. One time me and my friend did an experiment on headshots. Both of us stood face to face guns pointed at each others face. I shot him 5 or so times and finally got the "HEADSHOT!!!"....he shot me twice and I was dead. In a FPS stuff like that can't be randomly done...you shoot someone in the head then it's a freakin headshot...you don't have to do it 5-10 times before it's valid while some other guy may only do it once.

The only thing this game has going for it what-so-ever is it's co-op play. I'm not saying the co-op play is good....they just offer it, so I give them a thumbs up for offering it....too bad it sucks just like the rest of the game

Yeah Pefect Dark Zero is possibly the worst game made in the last 2 years. And Far Cry for 360 is frustratingly slow. I traded both games in before I got halfway through either. They are horrific. If you want a great shooter or a fun shooter, try these:

Call of Duty 2
Quake 4
Prey

All fun, and Quake can be had for pretty cheap right now.

I really like the trigger buttons on the xbox controller, it is good for racing games because they give you the wait to just slowly depress the gas like in real life instead of either being full on or off the gas.

i got used to it playing NBA 2k6...I too was too accustomed to the PS2 controller and was very hesitant about making the leap. I am very glad microsoft went the way of putting the 4 top buttons. It just feels soo much more comfy to me.

I've yet to have worse then a 10-3 season, and I just finished unranked because of that. That's stupid.

There are 4-5 undefeated teams going into bowls every year, and 2-3 come out undefeated every year. Does that make any sense? Of course not.

This is 14 years in to my simulation/recruiting only dynasty. I've won 1 national title, played for another and lost, and gone undefeated once and didn't even get to play for it. I've averaged a 12-2 record over the last 14 years and that is barely acceptable and I'm probably on the verge of being fired.

I knew I couldn't count on EA making something good on their 1st go round.

Damn. 14 years already. :eek: I still haven't figured out how to run the ball yet. :D I keep hitting the left trigger and pitching the damn thing back cause I'm so used to that being the stiffarm button in Madden. :o I figure I'll start a dynasty once my updated rosters get here.

Does the 360 version not have the match up stick by the way? If it does I can't figure it out. Took me a couple games to figure out the hot routes so I might just be slow. :D

Have you tried the Cherokee difficulty yet? Not much harder (all health spores are removed), you just visit the spirit realm a lot more often.

And multiplayer is an absolute blast. The maps are crazy, Switch Gravity and Salvage Walk are insanely fun. Roadhouse is cool, they got Judas Priest pumping on the jukebox!

Naturally speaking the highest your level should go is about 40-50....but I've seen some guys at level 90+

Chromehounds has got to be one of the best multiplayer games I have ever played. The single player blows, and I can say that there is not one reason in the world to buy it if you don't have Xbox Live. But if you have Live...OMG...the game is amazing and addicting. If you go to prison for long stretches of time you lose skill points....so in theory you could keep going to prison losing points in your major skills only to regain them again and level up. TECHNICALLY you could keep going to prison and leveling up as many times as you wanted....hell you could be level 1048 if you wanted to...you'd have absolutely no life and you'd die with no friends....but it's possible.

I'd say Enchanted Arms...since I THINK N-3 is more of a hack-n-slash ala Dynasty Warriors...only much more fun looking. But, I'm not a fan of turn based rpgs...so I'd vote for N-3.

I kept trying the one out in the open...Rohan maybe.....with only 2 control points...mine and the AI army's...and even on the easy setting I was getting my azz handed to me.

Anyone else having issues with NCAA? I keep getting a dirty disk error. After reading the EA boards seems like it's pretty common.

My story:

I bought a 360 on Sat. 7/08/06 (lot 0615, Samsung drive). I didn't take it out of the box until Fri. 14th (when I got NCAA at the I-45/West Rd. Walmart here in Houston 4 days early :) ).

I got a dirty disc error message within an hour of starting my first session. By the middle of the week, I was getting both frequent dde's and the game would freeze for 5-10 seconds at a time. Every so often the 360 would produce a very disturbing grinding noise. When I examined the disc, the beginning of a circular scratch approx. 1/4" from the inside edge of the disc was visible.

By Saturday I decided enough was enough. I took it back to the Best Buy where I got it (Hwy 59 @ Gessner), and exchanged it for another one. Most of their stock was lot 0615, so I decided to try a different lot. My new 360 is from lot 0613 with a Samsung drive. Over the course of Saturday evening and yesterday it worked flawlessly. There were occasional 1-2 sec. freezes at the end of plays, but it appears that's normal.

Hard to say. As I posted earlier, I've had two Samsungs so far. One was messed up, the other works flawlessly. From the stuff I've seen to date, the Phillips seems to get the fewest complaints, but is also the rarest (I think it's new).

An NCAA site I frequent ran a poll on the subject of the freeze problem some people were having, here are the results to date:

Hitachi Drive and Yes you have read errors. - 1 (4.17%)

I just got it to boot while i kept turning it on and off sitting on hold with MS. I'm assuming it's about dead, as last night I kept getting green lines while playing MLB 2K6 (no problems on the dashboard). That game is so glitchy, I figured that was the problem.

Oh well. I'll play for a bit tonight and call them tomorrow.

It is a very good demo. I didn't know anything about this game before but now I'm pretty interested in picking it up. It's a lot of fun even though it's a blatant GTA ripoff.

yep. Found that tough during driving though- it's a lot to control.

And the final shootout is really easy if you stay in a car for a while, and if you have the shotgun. Go on a cop-killing spree and get a shotgun and lots of ammo, then it's a piece of cake.

Architecture wise, the PS3 SHOULD only cost 300 as a video game system. But, since Sony is fond of screwing the consumer in order to try out new things, it's going to be 600 for a system that, instead of being built around gaming, is built around an unproven technology known as blu-ray. Which has been giving sony tons of troulbe so far. They've pushed back their stand alone blu-ray player more than a few times because of these problems. (It really says something when the company that created the format can't get their own act together.)

And it would appear these problems might be effecting the PS3. Last I heard was that Sony hasn't even started manufacturing them yet....which any company needs to start by now if they plan on a November release. Word is manufacturing won't start til late this month too...so IF they do make the Nov. 17th dead line, you can rest assured there will be even more faulty units than the 360 launch had, and even more than the uber faulty launch of the PS2.

Add that to the fact that a)the PS3's blu drive is going to be an uber slow version not even used in stand alone players, but also a fairly cheap drive as well. Hmm...can we say "PS2 dvd leading to dre" problems all over again? If you want to blow 600 bucks on something that's the same as the 360 power wise, just for a cheap blu-ray drive, go nuts. To each their own preferance in gaming. But, you'd be wise as hell to avoid the first shipments at all costs.

Here's the procedure for updating your gamercard with mygamercard.net:
Go to http://www.mygamercard.net/ and in the upper right corner hit the "sign up" button. Fill in all of your info, then you should immediately get an automated e-mail sent to you that will include a link for validation. That's step one. Now, within about an hour or two you will also get a private message on xbox.com from the guys that also includes a link to validate your gamertag. Follow the instructions there and you'll be all set-up on the site. Just remember, it's two steps, you need to validate your e-mail address, then validate your gamertag on xbox.com.
The next step, once you can login at mygamercard.net is to click on your gamerpic in the top right hand corner. This takes you to your 'profile' and you should see this at the bottom of the page:

It's Marvel...just like the Xmen Legends game...but with Captain America, Ironman, Spiderman, Wolverine, etc....

As far as the gameplay goes, I like it. It seems like the type of game I can put in and just crack some skulls for a little while. It's not a game that I'd want to play for hours on end though. I do like how a lot of the weapons do different things instead of just swinging them. The golf club is used to hit golf balls at zombies, the hockey stick is used to dicapitate them, the bench is used to ram through a bunch of zombies at once. It really looks like a ton of thought and work went into this.

I really think it depends on the person as to whether or not it will get boring. my friends have been known to play GTA for hours on end, not doing missions, just slaughtering pedestrians and running from the cops. And judging by GTA's sales, I think there are quite a few more out there like me.

Of course, if you're the type of person who prefers a more mission-based game, than you might want to rent this first. Even if you don't think you'll like it all that much, it's worth checking out once, just to see all the cool looking stuff.

there's something to be said about FUN repetitive-ness. I guess if it keeps you thinking while you're doing it. Who knows.

I downloaded Galaga from Arcade and I can't put the dumb thing down. At one point I was like number 56 on the leaders, but now I'm down to almost 200. I can't seem to break my little plateau of around 200,000 points. But basically it's the same, you shoot and dodge ships each stage. I don't know why, but it's just fun. So I can see Dead Rising turning out like that.

I want to play Outfit and Gun as well. I want to play a lot of games really. The only thing is, if a game gets lower than a 7, then I'm most likely not going to try it out.

Gun was alright, nothing special, if you have a regular xbox, i would go with that since they are basically the same game graphics and all, plus it is cheaper on regular xbox.

as someone said before me...

this is for those of us that play GTA and don't wanna do the mission.. just wanna go around and bash/smash/kill stuff...

instead of pedestrians.. we get a bunch of zombies... slow ones. that don't talk.

some carry weapons.. but are too feeble minded to use them (unless it's a knife.. they lunge and the knife cuts you)

but man.. I played this game for 5 hours. I explored the small amount of the map they gave me.. .and i found really cool things.. (a kitana.. which slices thru zombies like a hot knife on butter.. and an uzi.. which is great to just spray off at the zombie horde)

for those that got bored.. they didnt really test the limits of the game... if you take pictures of the stripper/neglige zombie women... you get EROTIC points which are added to your experience... double the points if you get a picture of her chest and panties.

you get gag points for taking pictures of zombies with things you've done to them (mask on their face, blind them with ketchup/pie, etc)

i'm sure in the real game... if you gain enuff experience you will unluck a whole mess of things.

the demo only lets you free roam a small area, but ... i have the map becuz i reserved this game.. and the demo only covers maybe 7% of the entire map. and in that 7% 3 bosses were revealed... the hicks with sniper rifles, the 3 convicts on the hummer, and the priest with the sword.

i'm not sayin this game is for everyone... but if you're like me and you watch the original dawn of the dead and you wish you could be in the mall teasin the zombies.. then this game is definitely for you.

i just wish there was online multiplayer.. i cross my fingers that they will release an update or sumthin. imagine playing a match.. called survival.. where you battle to see who can live the longest. or who could kill the most zombies in an allotted time.

i dunno who said this game sucked.. but the concensus of those i play with on xbox live were having a ball with the game.

every weapon/item has three uses for instance the baseball bat can be throw, can be swung, and then it can have a power swing which knocks the zombies head off and gives you xp .... there are even items that can be mixed.. but i cant figure it out yet... (the juices in the blender supposedly give you more powers)... the oven and the cooking ingredients.. anyone have a clue?

I've heard Kameo is really good, but most people are hung up on the kiddie look. MLB2k I haven't heard good things about. I'm hoping MLB will be putting out one next year since MLB The Show was awesome.

I liked Kameo. Definitely worth $25 IMO. Tomb Raider was a fun game too but short. Better as a rental.

I think Kameo is a definate must buy. The story itself is pretty good, the main downside is it's as straight forward as you can possibly get. There aren't twists, there aren't large CGI movies. They tell you the full story within 30 minutes of playing the game and it NEVER changes as you play. The length of the game is questionable. I've put 20 or so hours into it trying to find all of the unlockables, A ratings, etc. But if you just wanted to straight out beat the game it should take you about 8 hours. The gameplay is fun as hell....you get 10 different warriors to use, but none of them (other then the last one you unlock) is really overpowed...you're always going to run into an enemy that completely counters the warrior you are currently using so you'll have to adapt...sometimes you'll have to use 3-4 different warriors just for one fight. Overall it's a really cool game. To me it's definately worth the $50 I paid...so $25 is a must buy.

I'd like to hear some reviews for Hitman. I've always enjoyed those games.

Hitman is another very fun game, and one of my favorites on the system so far. Basically the fun comes from 2 different variables...how do you like to play through and what difficulty level do you have it on. How do you like to play? Stealthy or Run and Gun? A run and gun hitman player can get through the entire storyline pretty damn quick. Anyone who actually likes to play the game the way it's meant to be played can weeks to beat it. Also theres 4 different difficulty levels to beat it on....the easiest basically giving you the world on a platter with the hardest difficulty level offering you no help what-so-ever. For some odd reason I went from hardest to easiest...and eventually stealthy to maniac.

But anyways onto the game. The levels are designed amazingly well. A few levels that stick out to me are Mardi Gras where you literally have to move through a crowd of thousands of people, the White House due to it's ridiculously tight security, theres a wedding you have to crash, amung other scenarios. Every level has literally 50 different ways to beat the level. You've got a million different gadgets/weapons to make things work out and if you use your imagination it adds even more options. The gameplay is simple...1 introductory level and you should be safe to play through the entire game. The game plays at a pace that you set. You can take over an hour to beat a single level if you really take your time and make sure you do things completely perfect. While sometimes you can hop in a window, kill the mark, and run as quick as possible to the extraction point. The game is what you make it.

It's an action/stealth game so when it comes to a story you aren't really expecting much, but it does deliver a pretty strong story...if you beat the game it's one of the more satisfying stories you'll ever play through. I wish I could tell you how many hours it takes to beat this game but thats completely on your shoulders....could take anyone from 8-25 hours to beat one difficulty level. But the game is so fun it offers alot of replay value and you might find yourself trying to beat the game on more difficult difficulty levels for the challenge or easier difficulty levels just to be a murdering maniac.

In my opinion? Another game that begs to be played. Whether you have to rent it, buy it, or steal it. You gotta at least experience it.

For some reason I missed the demo the day it came out. I think I was signed on until like 1 or 2pm but maybe when I signed off I had just missed it. :o

Anyway, I just downloaded it but I managed to play it over the weekend at a friends house. On top of that I was a bit disoriented...so I could not stop laughing at several parts of the game while I was watching my friend play it, lol. :D

Saint's Row is like a small scale GTA....from what I've seen/played it's more of a game that focuses on more realistic stuff. "realistic" might not be the word to use but lets be honest no gangbanger like CJ is ever going to be helping a government agency retrieve a jetpack. Just like how no petty thief is going to single handedly take on the mafia and triad like in GTA3.

Saint's Row puts you in control of a gangbanger...nothing more nothing less. Which I personally LOVE...I thought the first 1/4th of GTA:SA was one of the best videogames I had ever played....then all of a sudden I'm stealing a lawn mower, learning how to fly planes, crap like that.

I'm also a huge fan of the character customization and the missions/story overall.

From what I've read somewhere, staying outside and never going into the mall can be one of the multiple endings. I read that if you just stay outside in the beginning a helicopter will pick you up in a couple of hours, game over. I'm enjoying both the Saint's Row and Dead Rising demos personally. They both look like fun and I may actually have to pick one of them up. It's about time they release some demos on the marketplace for games that aren't released yet.

In my opinion, there's NO question for me, it'll be Saint's Row...the gameplay is very fun, and I hated the controls for Vice City, just hated playing the game. But this one was easy and fun and had tight graphics.

Also, Dead Rising will probably be fun, but I have no doubt whatsoever I'll be bored with it within an hour. I couldn't possibly justify spending 60 bucks on it when I'd probably get more than my fill just renting it for a weekend.

In the single player there is 53,000 zombies cause thats the population of that town and in single player they dont respawn so you could kil all of them and be alone. And in demo i went into a warehouse part and the movie part came and he killed a bee then all zombies heads exploded there.

Ok, just played a little Halo 2 on Live.

While I still love it, someone needs to send Bungie a petition to create some faster way to boot people killing themselves. Seriously, I'm tired of my rank dropping a few levels because I every so often get stuck in 3 or 4 games where one guy on my team decides to commit suicide over and over and over again in a corner.

I've had too many close games ruined in this way, and too many "Wow, we're beating the snot out of red team" games also stolen out from under me because of chodes like that.

They don't totally ruin the experience for me....just put a damper on what would be an otherwise fun night. If anything lately I've been running into few *******s loudmouth wise...it's just those few who, while they at least keep quite, insist on blowing the match by sitting in the corner and throwing a grenade at their own feet every time they respawn.

I would do unranked, but I'll admit I'm far from the best player in the world, and as such ranked is usually the only way I can get matched up with people close to my level. Unranked I almost always seem to encounter people who would probably have INSANE levels in ranked games, but decide to go to rumble pit etc. just so they can stomp all over those of us who aren't as skilled as they are, and then flaunt it in our faces. Granted, none of them would dare play a ranked match lest they lose their standings to someone as skilled if not better than they are....

Good. I like it that way. The more the merrier.....but respawning zombies is lame. ^_^

I mean, I could understand if I hear a window break and then a few zombies come stumbling in, but when they just up and respawn in each sector.....that takes away from the feel of the game. :p

That's exactly what happened to me and why I slowly stopped playing Halo 2 online.

Thats one of the main reasons I've almost never been interested in online play (other then high end MMO) - Dealing with tardfarms gets old very, very fast, and the fact that I'd have to also deal with them over the headset would drive me nuts.

Online gaming is absolutely incredible, but it should be a privledge, not a right. Until the industry clamps down on the way people behave online, it will never be taken seriously.

Online play can either suck or be the best aspect of a game. I play with a select group of people, we're not a clan, but we might as well be. The people you play with are what makes the online experience.
