Thats one of the main reasons I've almost never been interested in online play (other then high end MMO) - Dealing with tardfarms gets old very, very fast, and the fact that I'd have to also deal with them over the headset would drive me nuts.
Online gaming is absolutely incredible, but it should be a privledge, not a right. Until the industry clamps down on the way people behave online, it will never be taken seriously.
It's the reason I don't play online or even bother to sign online. All online gaming turns out to be is who can cheese the other opponent the fastest. The fun is sucked out of nearly every game known to man the minute you take it online. Whether it be madden and qb's running around for 2 minutes before having Finneran jump 50 feet in the air on a comeback pattern, or halo with it's we'll kill you once then run and hide in a corner, or even battlefields "hi guys my names rambo, watch me". Maybe 1 out of every 100 times you'll actually go online and have a battle of skill....the rest of the times you are simply trying to rush to do the cheesiest thing possible before the other person can.
You name a game online and I will have no problems what-so-ever telling you why it's complete cheese. Now of course you'll get the people that are like "yeah but thats easy to combat all you have to do is this, this, this and this and he's screwed". Well I don't want to do that, that, that, and that....I just want to sign online and play the game how it's meant to be played.
Online gaming is even worse now on the 360....with those damn achievements that people simply can never seem to get enough of people are reaching all new heights of cheese just so they can get 10 more points added to their gamercard. Don't even get me started on the gamercard and how thats turned things stupid beyond belief over on the xbox boards.

I like the gamerpoints and achievements. They give the games higher replay value. On top of that they are nice little rewards for doing certain things throughout the game. ^_^

Chugga, you are exactly right.
Personally, I think its mostly an age thing. I remember when I was younger, I didn't care how I did anything in games, be it cheat/find a glitch/have a strategy guide, I wanted to get it done. That alone was gratifying. But now I want more - It's just so much cooler to do something the RIGHT way, instead of showing your own inability to deal with things the way they were supposed to be dealt with by cheating.
Simply put, there needs to be a far stricter enforcement on online gaming, but it will never ever happen because restricting who plays is just lost revenue. But at the same time, I don't have an Xbox Live account, and even when I do I won't be online playing games unless its against friends/other adults who I can trust, as I don't have time to deal with stupid **** like cheesers.
I remember way back when Dreamcast came out and I was playing NFL2K online, and how many people would just quit halfway through, go for it on 4th down, play as the bucs (Warrick Dunn was unbelievably fast and could be cheesed with), I even once had a guy join my team (it was 2 guys on one DC, me on mine) and then proceed to run with my running back towards our own endzone to repeatedly get safeties so his friend would win. WOW, THATS ****ING HILARIOUS. LOLZOR, YOU ARE TEH FUNNY. Just no. And I also recall how NFL2k series had something called "performence EQ", which when turned on made all the teams equal, so you could play as your favorite team instead of whoever was rated highest as all teams were made to equal the best one (IE, if one guy were the browns and one guy were the colts, both would play exactly the same). Therefore, it came down to skill and not the rush to who gets to play as peyton manning.
Here's things I would do if I were doing online gaming from a company standpoint:
- Get a seriously large amount of paid moderators/gamemasters, and put in a 3 strike rule. If you **** around 3 times in 1 year, you are permanently banned via your serial number on your console. It's a privledge, not a right. Treat the children like children, and things should be ok.
- Get rid of online achievements. I love the idea of achievements, but I shouldn't have to rely on other people to complete a damn thing. It's cool when you unlock stuff, and that should be the cool part of your game for single player stuff.
- Force developers to support a title after release. Encourage them to do so by working with them. Also maintain a fair price for marketplace items. Things shouldn't cost an arm and a leg for stuff like Horse Armor.
There's lots more stuff but that immediately comes to mind.

That is the one thing I like about playing battlefield 1942 online. My clan has its own server and If someone is doing something stupid, I can just kick or ban them if I feel like it. We are pretty strict about lamers. So if you do stupid stuff you probably wont be playing for long. It is all about having Admins that can kick people and stuff to keep the jackasses out of server.

Achievements are bad for a number of reasons. First and foremost (where my personal hatred brews from) it screws over xbox live....you've got people who are doing ridiculously stupid things just to get some obscure achievement next to their gamercard. I couldn't stand walking into an online Dead or Alive lobby only to hear people come into the gaming session every 2 seconds "Hey can I kill you guys 20 times in a row, then you'll kill me 20 times in a row...seriously it will only take a little while". No dumb@$$ it will take over an hour just so you can get an extra 25 points added to your card. This is my biggest pet peeve on xbox live....going into an online lobby and seeing the chatbox littered with "willing to lose 50 games to win 50 games". W-t-f?? How is that fun?
Second of all if you REALLY get into the whole gamercard thing half the time you aren't even having fun (some people might not admit this but it's true, and you know it). I'm a recovering addict, at one time I thought it was a cool way of showing your friends that you had beat a game. Thats why I played through COD2 on veteran, coached my team through 30 freakin years of madden, (bills won 5 superbowls), and beat the game on 4 different difficulty levels in NBA Live. But then all of a sudden theres these games out there who have some of the stupidest achievements known to man but people will do them just to get the points (8 hours straight logged in...are you serious? people are going to leave their xbox's on overnight to do that? wow). I realized I had a problem when one afternoon I was sitting there playing Blazing Angels for 2 freakin hours straight when I suddenly realized that "holy crap, I stopped having fun an hour and 59 minutes ago". Alot of the achievements are repetitive, boring, and suck the fun right out of your experience. As long as you are constantly having fun then more power to you, but I'll tell you one thing...I myself have tried getting alot of different achievements and I can give you a list a mile long of crap that you can't possibly have fun achieving.
Last but not least alot of boards have been killed by elitist idiots who think their gamerscore dictates their level of knowledge on subjects. I can't tell you how many times I've been browsing the Xbox forums only to see some dumb@$$ with a 10k gamerscore completely trashing some other guy because he's only got 2 thousand points and his opinion can't possibly carry any weight. The xbox boards are horrible with this.
I've got a friend with this very problem and it sucks. "hey you wanna play dead or alive?"...."nah lets play perfect dark 0 co-op"..."but that game sucks"..."yeah I know but we are only like 5 hours away from beating it and getting the achievement".

1 save slot you only save over each time.
Timed-missions (what the hell ever)
And if you end up saving yourself into a corner, you're basically screwed.
Man, I know it's a 72-hour game, but WAY to completely ruin the fun of exploring the mall and doing what you want.
When will they learn, timed missions SUCK, they are not fun.

While I love madden I'd kill for 2k games to release a football game right about now. The performance eq thing was great. I always loved using the Bills in videogames but alot of times you simply can't do it if you want to compete with people who are at the same skill as you because you know very well they are going to pick the eagles, falcons, bucs, vikings, titans, rams, etc (just a few teams I remember in the last 6 years that got entirely too much use online)...Rob Johnson simply wasn't going to be able to deal with 9 guys in the box with one of the worst offensive lines in the game blocking for him.
As for online play it will NEVER and I guarentee this NEVER get better. While the changes you suggested are great they'd never be used just because it loses online companies money. I can't tell you how many Gold farmers I've come across in my time as an MMO player over the years....but the companies simply refuse to ban all of them because they bring in too much revenue. It's the same thing with Xbox Live...if you banned ever 13 year old idiot who cheesed or glitched his way to victory you'd lose 90% of the population (or at least thats what it seems like).

Last I heard the reason they were so strict with saves, etc was because the game is packed with replay value. You're likely going to want to play through the thing at least 5 times....so timed missions may suck but maybe the first time you play through the game you do timed missions, next time you explore, next time you go on a killing spree, next time you try to unlock a specific ending, and next time you just do whatever the hell you want.

Oh and on an unrelated note in the last 2 days I was able to pick up Condemned and The Outfit. I had already played through a bit of Condemned before back in November when a friend brought it over. But he was about to trade it in and I said I'd buy it off of him, so I got a nice deal on it. The Outfit I just bought because we were looking for a co-op game to play because Perfect Dark Zero fell so short. I can't believe how much fun that game is in co-op...we beat the game in 1 day. The story was cool (very predictable at parts), and the action just never ends. I was amazed how well they translated the whole "rambo and his buddies go to WWII" type feel the game had. I was really suprised how much pure fun the game is. Thats the one downside of all these rating sites, ign, gamespot, 1up, etc. They rate the graphics, gameplay, depth, all that stuff...but they never take into account the crazy amount of fun you can have with the game. But it's not like it's the first game they've completely lowballed on the 360...more like the 20th.

I hear you guys about online. After just getting on there a few weeks ago, I was really excited, but quickly found out firsthand what I'd been reading on the boards.
I cannot express how frustrated I am with Fight Night online. So many jackholes and cheap players. Custom maxed out boxers, only picking Ali, tons of d/q moves, etc. And when you do try to set up an analog only match with no customs, people don't want to play. Or they will still use the buttons. A button mashing maxed out boxer is pretty tough to beat with a boxer with average stats using the analog. And the DNFing. Not good.
Online isn't as sweet as I thought it would be. GRAW is still fun if you get a good group of people to paly with, and it's great playing friends online, but all in all I am kinda turned off. Too many idiots on there.

If any of you listen to Major Nelson's podcast he mentioned it this week and interviewed the hardware and software team working on the device. It's looking more and more like I'm going to pick it up for sure, no word on price-point yet though. They were evasive when asked about it saying only that it will be the "substantially least expensive HD-DVD player out there on the market"

Achievements are awesome if you are passive towards them. Meaning, you just get them when you get them. But it is nice to load up one of my games every now and then too see if I can come across anymore. I don't think they're that bad, regardless of the fact that some games are too easy to score achievements in and it's a bit annoying when you hear someone talking about how many gamerpoints they have and how they own the world and all that.

How is the Outfit in single player? Or have you not experienced that yet.
It's a co-op game. As much as it may be marketed otherwise it all boils down to how much fun it is to march through a battlefield with 2 co-op squads. I've played the single player for like 10 minutes....it was fun but in comparison to co-op it wasn't nearly the same.
Let me put it this way. If I were to rate the co-op game of the Outfit I'd give it an 8.5...if I were to rank the single player I'd give it a 7.5. Single player is still obviously solid...but will always be inferior to the other mode. At the absolute very least it's worth a rent. Coolest part about the game is being able to just drop whatever equipment you need whenever you want to. Say you peak around the corner only to get fired on by 2 armored vehicles. You and you're friend in co-op both request tanks and they are immediately air dropped to your location...hop in and completely own anything thats around that corner. It's the destruction on demand feature...it's probably the coolest part about the game...that and it on occassion will turn into Grand Theft WWII as I had a habit of stealing the enemies tanks while my friend occuppied their fire.

I'm not a big fan of street racing either...mainly because the culture opened the doors to a bunch of idiots who get new mufflers and think their car is fast as hell because of that.
But thats besides the point...I don't really like racing games but Need for Speed was really fun. The story was actually pretty good but I wished they had added more story elements to it. Between race 9 to race 2 I don't think there was one cut scene or anything. Sure the cut scenes were corny as hell but they pieced the story together decently.

^How long did it take you to complete the game? i am 30% complete right now.
It's hard to say, it took me like 4 months...from when I bought it in early December to when I finally beat it in maybe April or something like that. I did it in big bursts of gaming.
When I first got the game I got all the way from racer 15-9 within a weekend. Then a month later I got all the way from 9 to 4. Then I put the game on the back burner for a while (I got kind of annoyed that they weren't showing me any more cutscenes and it was just straight repetitive racing). Then I don't know how it happened but I was searching online for something and I stumbled across a discussion about how Need for Speed has one of the best endings for Xbox360. The minute I read that I went and churned back away at racer 4-1...all of them being the easiest racers in the game...you have so many junkman parts, so many upgrades, and access to the best cars in the game...it's way too easy. I remember the minute I unlocked that final porsche there wasn't anyone who could stay within half a map of me.
If I had to take a guess the game takes about 2 weeks to beat. But it could take a month if you absolutely suck at police chases. Theres nothing more disappointing then having a 45 minute long police chase only to get caught and have all the stuff you unlocked taken away from you.

I'm 110% buying Dead Rising tomorrow....but if I had to give people personal advice about this game (before even playing it). I'd say it's a renting game. You can only kill zombies for so long before the game goes to the bottom of your game pile. It's the same with Hitman...it's an absolutely great game but I can only do so many assassinations before I'm tired of it. I can only imagine Dead Rising is going to be a game that gets worn out REAL quick. Only 1 player, pretty straight forward story.
It's a must play in my book....but not necessarily a must buy.

In Dead Rising there's SOOOOO many ways to kill zombies. The story is pretty friggin sweet too, from all that I've seen. It would've been better if it was online and offline coop...but hey, these companies will never learn.

wow, I've seen a lot being talked about since I've been on ...
Dead Rising .. I plan on picking it up. But I agree with whoever said it .... timed missions are not fun. I've never liked timed missions. Oh well. I also don't like the one save point thing. I've never liked that.
Playing online ... I like to play online, but I only play with people I know. There's a group of about 15 people or so that I play with, and that's it. Finding a good group of people that you know and know want to play like you, that certainly makes online play enjoyable. I don't jump into random matches, maybe on the very rare occasion, but I'm like most anyone else, I don't care to play with people who trash talk or cuss incessantly, or people who cheat and glitch. The group I play with consists mainly from people I know in Texas. Most of which are family, brothers-in-laws, and a couple of cousins. Other people are good friends of theirs that I've gotten to know. And we try to play the games as their meant to be played. With strategy and so forth, not just simple running and gunning. That gets old in a hurry, and sometiems depending on who's playing our matches can turn to that, and that has it's place, because it can be fun sometimes. But it makes all the games run together, if that's all people do. Whether it's COD2, GRAW, Halo 2 or anything with guns and shooting. That's why a couple of my friends just played Full Auto for a while, that was fun, although the selection of cars and tracks seriously needed to have more than it did. Also, why I've been playing DOA with friends too. It's a nice diversion from the shooter. And we don't care if we get to SS, we just have fun playing.
As for achievements, I agree and disagree, I like em. I somewhat like the bragging rights with my friends, friendly competition, however, that's it. I'm not going to go out and pick up every stupid game around just to get as many acheivements as possible. And if I'm tired of a game, or certain acheivements are stupid hard to get to, then I won't bother with them. But they can sap the fun out of a game. I agree with that. I got all the 1,000 points for COD2, and a lot of it was seriously aggravating because that's just too hard. But also, 8 straight hours of playing, I've done that before, but only on days that, 1) my wife was out of town and 2) I didn't have a dang thing I had to do or even wanted to do that day but spend time playing games. Achievements like those are ******ed and only meant for those uber gamers that have no life other than that spent in front of their console. So, it's a back and forth with me. Although I think it's a brilliant business decision, because yes, the acheivements can be addictive. Same thing for Arcade. So addictive. Stupid Galaga. HA HA!

So anyways I picked up Dead Rising today because basically everyone I knew who owned an Xbox or didn't own an Xbox was telling me I had to get it just so they could play it. Luckily I've been waiting for the game forever now myself so I wanted it too.
To start off let me say the graphics are hit or miss. But luckily this is in a good way...95% hit and about a 5% miss. The faces in this game look absolutely amazing...from the lead characters stubble to the way they animated Jessie and Brads faces. I've seen thousands of zombies so far and all of them are on point in terms of detail and animations...especially when you consider how many of them are on the screen at one time. The environments are stunning. A friend of mine actually made me just stand in a hallway one time just so he could admire how perfect they got it down, damn near lifelike. All the stores in their mall have their own personality and all of them look great, some better then others (kid stores are really bright and fun, while alot of the clothing stores can sometimes be bland). Thats the 95% of the time...on the other hand you've got the 5% of the time. Theres really only one problem I see with the graphics. They didn't render main character body parts that well. For instance if you change the main character (frank) into a short sleeve shirt or put him in shorts his arms and legs just look weird in comparison to how amazing they did his face. Same for Jessie....arms and legs just don't look right almost xbox-ish.
Now that we are past the graphics lets get into the gameplay. I'll admit I've only played for so many hours so all of the gameplay isn't open to me just yet. With every time you level you gain something, sometimes it's a new move, more health, more inventory space. The moves you gain are amazing. When moving up to level 2 you can a jump-kick which completely owns in any 1-on-1 confrontation. At level 3 or so I got a zombie riding skill which is basically like crowd surfing but you can walk/jump on crowds of zombies. I can't tell you how many times this has gotten me out of some sticky situations. As for the controls they at times can be a little questionable. Swinging a weapon, changing weapons, all that good stuff feels so smooth...whether it be a baseball bat, lawn mower, chainsaw, you name it and it's amazing easy and fluid to use. But theres one problem with the controls...guns. Now first of all I should say there isn't that huge of a gun selection to begin with, and even if you do find a gun the ammo is generally low as hell, but in boss battles (the first one they put you in) a gun is absolutely required but it's very wonky to try to use. Running and aiming is basically completely out of the question and when the boss is running around you slowly start to realize how much you wish they had worked on the weapons better. But in the same sense the difficulty in firing a weapon may have to deal with the story (the main character has never actually fired a gun before -at humans-...he's a simple photographer). Other then the issues with guns (shotgun excluded) the controls/gameplay are really easy to get used to and overall fun.
Now onto the story...theres definately a story to be told in this game. Without spoiling anything theres a few twists and turns that make this not your average zombie plot. It's a little deeper then that and it only takes about a quest or 2 to figure it out. The story is actually told amazingly well through movies. In a game that is so ridiculously wide open the cut scenes do a great job of letting you know what you have to do....if you want to.
Last but not least I wanted to get into exactly why timed missions are so great with this game. First and foremost I should say the missions aren't actually "timed". You can take all 3 days doing 1 mission if you want to. The reason why they say "timed" is simple....people can't survive in a store boarded up with only a few pieces of wood for 3 days. The game is based around one simple principle....zombies don't know how to climb into air vents....one room is completely closed off with the exception of the air vents...if you can get people back to that room through the air vents they are safe...if they stay out in the mall and are only guarded by a few pieces of ply wood well then chances are they aren't surviving the full 72 hours. So missions aren't actually "timed", missions are based off of priorities. If someone is locked into some make-shift fortress then you have PLENTY of time to save them. If some young couple are randomly holed up in a tiny room with zombies knocking on the doors and windows you may only have 2 hours to get to them before they are goners. The game leaves it up to you in terms of saying who lives and who dies. At any given time you have anywhere between 3-6 quests in your queue. Maybe 2 of the quests give you 12 hours to do, 2 of them give you 6 hours, and 2 of them give you 2 hours. Obviously you rush to do the 2 hour ones first....or you can simply skip them if you don't think you have the time and go right for the 6 hour ones. You are NEVER being timed, I repeat you are NEVER being timed. It's just a case of getting your priorities in order and saying "yes I'll save you" to some people and saying "I'm sorry but I can't make it to the food court in 2 hours" to some other people.
Believe me when I say this....the "timed" missions are a necessity in this game. I don't know exactly how to explain it but if the missions weren't timed/prioritized the game has a replay value of 0 and the frantic feeling you have while playing the game is completely erased. Until you actually plug the game in and play it, it's really hard to describe how much running you do just in hopes of trying to save peoples lives....if the prioritized missions didn't exsist the game turns into a 7 hour stroll through the park. After playing for quite a while today I can safely say you have to play this game AT LEAST 4 times. Once just to get to know the game...once to go on a killing spree...and once to save as many people as you can....and once to find as many items as you can. Anything after that is just pure fun. So basically the way they set the game up they converted the game from a weekend rental that was easily beat in 2 sittings to a 30 hour long survival game.

It's a game that you HAVE to play. Thats not saying you have to buy it. I haven't beaten the game let alone played it enough to say "this is a must buy", but from what I have played it's definately something you've gotta experience. It's one of those games that we look back at 10 years from now saying "man I wish I had dead rising, I think I lost my copy a long time ago"....and the friend of yours that has absolutely no clue what "dead rising" is gets smacked across the face because it's one of those cult videogames that *everyone* has played....then you spend the entire weekend looking for that 10 year old game just so you can show your friend how much of an idiot he is.

I'm actually a buyer too...I haven't rented a videogame in years now. Probably not since the N64. Blockbuster just became a real hassle for me as time went on. It seemed like I was paying the same amount in late fees that I would have paid for the game itself.
But anyways I just always advise to rent because I don't want my words to be the deciding factor behind someones $60. Behind someones $5 I feel really confident...but everyone has different tastes and as much as I love Dead Rising despite a few of it's shortcomings for other people those shortcomings could be gamebreakers.

By far the coolest part of the game I've encountered so far.....
My friend is looking at the map telling me how to get to the Food Court while I'm running through the mall following his directions. So anyways I'm running through the courtyard and see the doors I need to go through and I'm like "holy crap dude theres 50 people outside of those doors is there another way in?"...."nope thats the only way". So I'm sitting there trying to figure out how to get in when I all of a sudden look to the right and theres a lawn mower sitting there. By time I was done with the lawn mower there wasn't a single person blocking my way.
I've also had similar fun with the chainsaw and shotgun. Believe it or not theres alot of non-lethal weapons that are fun as hell to use to. A kids store carries a mega man gun that you put on your arm that shoots foam balls...all it does is annoy the crap out of the zombies.

Quick NCAA 07 question is there a certin set of rules i need for achievements or do i get them at end of Game? And is there a superstar mode that can transfer to Madden 07?
You must use 5 minute quarters for about half of the game achievements (all of the total yardage achievements, etc...). I was using 8 minute quarters in my dynasty and still got some of them but for the rest it needs to be 5 mins.
If you haven't got the perfect bowling game yet, change the difficulty to freshman and choose Washington (fastest QB). Run any shotgun formation pass play, then just scramble into the endzone on the weaker side of the defense. I used the same play each time and it worked.
There's no superstar mode but you can export each seasons draft class into Madden '07
If you click my gamercard in my sig and look at my achievements for NCAA - I got all of those with 8 minute quarters. The rest I'm assuming are the ones that need to be done on 5 minute quarters but I haven't tried yet. I only say that because I accomplished most of the other ones but I didn't get the achievements

But anyways I've come to the conclusion that alot of the boss fights are frustrating for one simple reason...you can level your character up 50+ times and as it stands right now my main character is pretty weak. If only I had the football tackle in these boss fights, I'd own people. Theres still so many things I have to unlock yet....more health, speed, inventory, fighting moves.

True it's a little short, but I thought it was a very good shooter as far as gameplay goes...so if you're the type that can pick up a FPS after you beat it just to enjoy the action and shooting, then Prey will afford you some good replay value.

thanks for that ... so Prey will go on the back burner for a while (simply because there are very few games that I can simply pick up and play repeatedly, especailly when I know the story and know what to expect, and even though it has multiplayer, I would be the only one in my friends group that has it, so nuts to that) ... easy enough ... so now it's between BFME 2 and Dead Rising ... the good thing, I have a while to decide. The hard decision ... on the one hand, BFME 2 provides RTS fun, I've not had RTS fun since I've owned an xbox, I just haven't played anything on computer at all. I've been missing playing an RTS for a while. .... now on the other hand, Dead Rising really looks like it offers some really fun game play with great visuals. ... good thing I have a couple of weeks to decide.
of course I've seen Chugga and others rave on it so far ... it will be interesting to see what OXM says about it. I think sometimes they turn out to be the film critics of the game world. They don't like what really is pretty cool and do like what really isn't all that cool. ... HOWEVER ... thankfully that's on very very rare occasions.
Anyone here read OXM? ... I got a letter printed in the latest issue. :D

I honestly thought Prey sucked hard
Single Player - way too easy....basically...you can never die....cuz you just come right back to life....no matter what. And as for the puzzles (spirit walking)....they give you a symbol to signal you when to use it....I mean really....W T F
Online - L.........A.....A........A....A.......A.......A..A....A.....G
Visually....I thought the game was stunning......but in every other aspect besides astethic beauty.......I thought they could have done better.

lots of good points...maybe it's just me, but I liked the fact that you can never die. I don't like having to restart from a point in any game and lose progress. But I'm probably in the minority there.
Much like Quake 4, I loved the gameplay because it's based off the Doom 3 engine, which is phenomenal in my opinion. The player moves as a perfect speed and everything is so crisp.
Yes, it is too short, and yes, it is way too easy, but I could overlook that because I was having fun with the cool weapons and gameplay.
It's games like Far Cry and Pefect Dark, where the player movement is so slow and clunky and firing the weapons feels so much more tame, that suck much worse than Prey in my opinion.

I liked the original Far Cry on the Xbox. Haven't really been interested in the one for the 360 though. Mostly because I still have the one for Xbox and am waiting patiently until a god**** patch is released. >_<

Personally I'd rather have the first and second Castlevanias on arcade. But that's just me.
As for Prey, I'm sure I'd probably play it in the 9 to 10 hour range myself, simply because I take my time with games too. I don't like to just blow through games. But yeah, based on what I've seen I'll probably just wait for the price drop. No biggie there.
But I just finished Chaos Theory last night. And as soon as I get Darkwatch tackled and out of the way I'll be picking up either BFEM 2 or Dead Rising.

I already have seven games for the 360. I love my 360, and I think arcade rocks. I'm not a renter either. I've rented four or five games total for xbox. A couple of years ago I rented SIlent HIll: Restless Dreams and then Psi Ops: The Mind Gate Conspiracy, and I had fun with both of them, but I literally had to just spend all my time playing the games, and I still didn't get through them. So, at that point, I figured I'd just watch the reviews for the game and then if I really wanted ot play it, I'd buy it on the cheap at some point.
Then right before the 360 came out I rented Battlefield 2, Ghost Recon: Summit Strike, and Rainbow Six: Letdown. And then seriously I was like I'm not even going to rent again because my bro-in-law was all rent this we're playing it this weekend. Rent this we're playing it this weekend. And we'd play the stupid game for all of 2 to 3 hours and then go on to something else because we didn't like the online play. I finally had to say, I'm done with renting. If you're going to rent a game one weekend, then count me out because 1) I can't afford to do it and 2) I'm tired of playing a game for 2 hours and moving on to something else ... and I absolutely refuse to rent something I know at some point I want to buy and play through. ... so really, I don't rent at all anymore. I have enough to keep me fat and happy.

I don't know what it is about games. But I swear sometimes I think that the game developers have this stupid unwritten rule that in EVERY game there has to be at least some point that's so pissant stupid hard, that it takes you like 15+ tries to beat that particular section. Name the game, and if I've played it, I'm sure I can tell you at least some section in it that's assinely hard.
avsfan21
08-15-2006, 01:24 AM
If 7-2 is that bad I dont even want to know what the ones after that are like. What really pissed me off as I said before is that I beat it, but died so I now have to do it again. The one thing I dont get is why it lets you save after you complete some of the cases but not others. I really need to save after I beat that one, but no. I have to go find a save point to save and end up dying.

Well, there's sometimes different ways to approach killing a zombie. Take for instance, the frying pan. Normally you just go around bashing their face in and it breaks after a dozen or so swings. Well, put it on a stove for a few seconds and it's an instance kill weapon and it lasts a little longer. Just walk up to a zombie and hold the x button and it fries their brain. Supposedly there are many other combinations like that as well, for other weapons.

Dead Rising is awesome, but I feel its a bit too confusing at points. I've basically only done the main storyline with the CASE things, and I have absolutely no idea....
SPOILER
What the hell is with the guys in the courtyard? I've basically made it my perogative to always carry a skateboard in my inventory to get across that portion of the game.
END SPOILER
I also think I take too long doing things as I try to just kill zombies with **** weapons, but I dunno. I don't like using strategy guides, but I just feel like I'm doing SOMETHING wrong.
if you kill the guys in the courtyard and then take their tuck and beat it up enough by crashing it so you can't drive it anymore, supposedly they won't show up anymore

Madden is one of those games that stores usually get a week ahead of time. I'm pretty sure EA ships them out early in hopes of some store breaking the release date and creating a buzz.

Texas Hold'em will be free on XBLA for the first 48 hours of it's release. Make sure you get it in time otherwise you will have to pay for it!

WOO HOO I'm # 42 on the Galaga leaderboards ... (as of now :D )
btw, today is the day I come back with either Dead Rising or BFME 2 ... at the moment I'm leaning towards Dead Rising ... but I don't know BFME 2's seductive RTS charm could reel me in at the last minute.

I have friends/former coworkers throughout several retail stores and offices, and I was with TRU as a manager. Most places do not have it yet, and people aren't "allowed" to take the game home early.
If you ring it through the register, there ARE consequences. In fact, Madden 05 had an approved early street date (stores were allowed to sell on Monday rather than a Tuesday, however the street date was still Tuesday). Because TRU broke the street date that year (and in gross numbers), they weren't allowed to sell them until Tuesday. Typically stores get them on the Friday/Saturday before release.
I would say these people probably have ins at EA rather than stores. I took a copy home early the two years I was in the building when we got it, so I'm sure we'll see more pop up leading up to the release date.

welp ..... I bought a new game ... and I went with .......
Dead Rising ..... ding ding ding ding ding
I had to go to two places to find it. It was out at the normal place I go. But when out at a mall, without the games I was going to trade in, I asked a kid at a gamestop there, I asked, Dead Rising or BFME 2 ... and I couldn't get out the word Battle before he had said Dead Rising.
I played a little bit of it today, and zombie crunching is fun. Although something aggravates me about the game. There's NO dialogue?! WTH?? The only dialogue is in cut scenes, everything else you have to read. Not that I mind that. BUT! It seems liek Capcom decided to favor people playing this game with 50" hi def tv's because when I get a transciever call and when I talk to someone ... I CAN'T FRIGGIN READ IT THE LETTERS ARE SO SMALL!!!! ... so in that case I'm kind of lost in what to do. I normally sit on my couch which is a good 9 - 10 ft away from the TV. I should be able to read stuff at that distance just fine. So I moved to like three feet away and I still have a really hard time reading it. Seems like a sorry place to cut on your budget, lines when talking to people in game. Otherwise it's good fun. Glad I picked it up.

That's exactly why I got the guide Samurai. ;)
Although, I could always plug it up to the 50" HDTV, but that's too much of a hassle. I'd rather just buy an extra set of cords and unplug the 360 and take it to the living room. >_<

I think guys that work at video game stores are allowed to take home games even before they are released to the public
Ummm...I don't know about privately owned stores, but at EB and Gamestop that's not the case. They can "check out" games for 4 days...but, the game has to have been out by then. They aren't allowed to take anything home before release date.

I used to know a guy that could take home games before their release. Maybe they changed their policy.

COULD he, or DID he? I think the policy has always been that way...but since corporate can't be everywhere at once...associates will do as they please.

I worked at GameStop 3 years ago and we were only allowed to take 1 game out at a time, I do not remember anything about being able to take games out before release but we could take it out on the day of release. I believe it depends on the management of that store tho..

I downloaded the demo and liked it....will probably ask the wife to get it for me for Christmas. Nothing conveys the yuletide spirt like poppin' gangbangers and recruiting 'hos from abusive pimps. :D

There have been multiple people that know of situations that are different than yours. My guess is that there was either a misunderstanding or your friend lied. No company is going to openly allow an associate to take a game home without purchasing it so he can play it before the street date.
Sorry, just isn't logical.

I have Saints Row reserved and paid off already...definitely looking forward to it. I was very much into the demo.
Still considering Enchanted Arms, but probably for around 30-35, not the 60 it's coming out at.

the employee had to leave the cash amount in the store when he took the game home. When he brought the game back to the store, he would get his money back. Plus this was before the 360 came out, so there wasn't such things as gamercards that showed off what games people were playing. Seems quite logical to me.

It's logical but it's not legal.
The thing is alot of these game stores run on a store by store basis. I've worked for 2 different gamestops and through just listening/word of mouth I know how alot of others run and the checking out of games that aren't out yet is completely and utterly against store policy. But there are literally a million things that are against store policy and it's always up to the manager to decide how closely he wants to stick to the book. Are there gamestop employees out there right now who are playing madden well before the street date? Hell yeah there are...but it's based more off of the fact that their manager just doesn't give a **** as much as it is about this being something thats available for people to do. The same can be said for all videogame chains...gamecrazy, eb, gamestop, or the little mom and pops store at the end of the street.
Once again if an employee "rents" a game it's considered breaking street date and he's welcomed a $10,000 to $100,000 fine on his store....theres no where in the world where this is a legal practice. Although I know of a few managers personally that might just look the other way.

yeah, I guess there was a manager at the store that didn't care much

Get a part time job there then....working at a videogame store with a manager who doesn't care about whats going on is one of the greatest things ever. I've never had the luxury of being able to do it but getting games well before street date, never having to worry about reserving anything because he'll just tell the customers that they got in 1 copy fewer then they thought they would.
On the same note the employee discount sucks, the benefits are horrible, and you're likely working for damn near close to minimum wage.
Well maybe you shouldn't get a job there....but it's cool to think about
