I talked the store I purchased the game from (EB Games) and they told me I'm SOL because I didn't buy their game guarantee. Their game warranty lasts 7 days, yet in the manual it says it can be returned within 30 - but the store claims that is simply not the case.

My 360 will no longer read any games or DVDs but it will read CDs so what gives?

It was working fine last night an now i cant play any games
Everything else works, i can connect to XBOX LIVE and play games from my hard drive but no disc games

I dont know what to do, will the new XBOX update tomorow effect anything?

Well now it will read some games but not others

It will read Force Unleashed and Paradise City but not Web Of Shadows (which i only bought yesterday :mad:) or any others

So what does it say about the disk drive?

No but I used to have an issue where everytime i wanted to play a game online... id have to sign out of live and re sign in to live in order for me to be able to play online.

I cant remember how i fixed it but i think i did a reboot of some sorts... or maybe an update fixed it... not sure anymore

I'll get a better look at it tonight or tomorrow, but my initial reaction is that it feels as if it was born out of the forced breeding of the Wii and PS3 interface.

It doesn't actually download the full game, but just components. It is to make the game run more smoothly, and to help prevent overheating to systems. Sorry man.

anyone getting used to netflix might want to know that if you go to the Watch Instantly Tab on netflix.com and change the Genres dropdown to HD it will list all of the movies you can stream in HD to your 360... the list is small... and ok... lots of older movies

You have to have the disc in the tray to play. A hard drive download of the game allows for it to run more efficient and smoothly, without taking a big toll on your system.

I definitely can't afford a new tv either - my wife and I will have our first baby on or around 12/20, so you can imagine that the baby has saturated most of our funds...really excited to meet her, though :)

I'm going to unplug/replug everything today - couldn't last night since we hosted a friend's 30th birthday party.

I've only had in RB2, GHAerosmith, and GHWT, so maybe there is some unknown issue with those type of games that is currently unresolved. Doubt it, though. I'll pop in Gears or Halo and see if it makes a diff. The only thing I changed since the update was changing the background to the exclusive Gears 2 theme. Seems silly that would create a problem, but you never know...

I had picture and sound BEFORE I spoke to an overseas MS 'customer service' rep named "Larry." After I told him that his advice (turn off console, remove HD, then turn on again) made my console useless, we mysteriously got disconnected.

SOoooo, I called back and had to go through EVERYTHING again because the apparenty call center policy is not to log calls so that other CSR's can access previous conversations.

I was put on hold a lot, and the girl was no help. She told me I can't plug HDMI into DVI and other nuggets of wisdom. Horrible. I'm certain I was not the first person to call about this issue.

With no picture or sound, how am I supposed to fix my console via update (ha!) or anything? This is an MS problem, and they better fix it. My Elite factory warranty ran out of 4/30/08. I will not pay for this. Their update effed up my console. I am calling on Monday to hopefully get someone stateside and escalate to the manager immediately. I doubt they'll have any record of previous conversations.

So,here's Saturday for me so far: I woke up to a fresh pile of dog poo on the rug, then after talking to MS, my XBOX is doing simultaneous impressions of Stevie Wonder and Helen Keller, then I found a scratch on my car...all before 12:30pm. Then I came home to find my dog (who we locked up before leaving the house) left an offering of au jus on the laundry room floor. I had to clean that up, send her outside to sputter and pee, then clean off the back of her legs and butthole, then go buy a newspaper to cover the laundry room floor in case of mishaps, then have someone come over with their kids at 3pm instead of 6pm like they are supposed to. Siggggggghhhhhhhhh.

I highly doubt this is true. They logged my conversations to an extent. You just need the reference number for them to look it up although I'm guessing they can look it up by phone number or e-mail address too. Anyway, good luck but based on my prior experience, managers won't be much more helpful.

Sorry to hear they bent you over. Microsoft seems to be good at that. However...

After about 2 hours on the phone with XBOX customer service departments in different countries, my wife was able to not only get my bricked-Elite-thanks-to-Microsoft-customer "support" sent a coffin, but my out of warranty console got extended 1 full year and will be, wait for it, repaired FREE OF CHARGE.

It pays to sic angry wives on unsuspecting customer service people. I think she made the supervisor cry. She never raised her voice or anything, just direct :)

Escalate to a supervisor - it is the only way you will make any progress.

Make sure you get the rep's name(s), because we got disconnected twice (once with a supervisor) and ended up talking to SEVEN people in total.


I hoped I would never be a recipient of a shipping coffin, but at least it didn't cost anything but time and frustration. It was actually the first overseas associate who helped further eff my Elite. He instructed me to turn off console, remove HDD, turn on console. After that I went from having distorted picture to an amalgamation of Helen Keller and Stevie Wonder in electronic form: Deaf and blind.

I know a lot of you have had more serious issues with your consoles. I now have felt your pain, and it sucks:(

Unfortunately, escalating to a supervisor doesn't always work. Plus from prior experience, the reps never give their real name out. It's just an alias, so unless they work at the same call center, the next rep may have no clue who "Michael White" is, especially if "Michael" had a heavy foreign accent.

I had one case where I was promised service for a defective power supply, 2 weeks later nothing, and not even the supervisor's name got the incident resolved. The defect is just nuisance noise, so I'm still playing with it to date given that they want me to pay $100 for them shipping me the defective unit.

True, it is not always successful when speaking to a supervisor. It seemed to work this time, though. My 'coffin' is shown to be in Houston as of last night, so I will probably get it on Friday, assuming UPS will be running that day. If not, then 12/1. Supposedly I will not have to pay anything for repairs, but only time will tell. And yes, I will keep you guys in the loop;)

I'm not done with Gears I just took a break to beat Resistance and do some movie catching up since they were beginning to pile up. In the last 2 weeks I've seen......Kung Fu Panda, Star Wars Clone Wars, Hanc()ck, Lucky Number Slevin, Monsters Ball, Hellboy 2, Tropic Thunder, Wall-E, This Christmas, Get Smart, and Tenacious D the complete masterworks. If you're looking at a user score by what's on Metacritic or something similar and it's a 360 exclusive...chances are that the score will be really low because some PS3 fanboys have nothing better to do than to vote down scores on games they don't own.

I was FINALLY going to have a lot of time to game this weekend. I cant believe it.

i havent played enough to know wether its purchase or rent. I'll play it more tonight when I get home. But, I could imagine listening to your teammates scream over xbox live when they get rushed would be quite funny

Agree that the maps are too big but what really drags online down for me is the spawning. It's frustrating spawning in front of the enemy. But still, I love the online portion.

MotoGP is a big step up from 07 for me. I love that you have to start in the 125cc class then go to 250 then to the top.

Had to send in my 360 because of the 3 rings of death. I miss my Xbox. Its been 5 days without being able to use it and it sucks. I have a PS3 as well but only 2 games for it. I had just bought NHL 09 and NCAA Basketball 09 for the 360 and now I cant play them :(

I frickin' LOVE MotoGP 08. A lot of the vets are really turned off by it due to the limited options (can't save setups, tuning is basic - less than 06, 07, online has no setups- default bikes only, one race lobbys, only post leaderboard times in ranked rooms), but I can't stop playing it.

For me it's two things, the handling and the on board view. Best on board view since tourist trophy. Each bike mfgr is different, and it looks great. And Milestone really nailed the handling. I think it's 10 times better than Climax's last two versions. You can adjust the steering in your career to suit you.

And the graphics on some stages look a lot better than 07. Plus, you get a choice between sunny, cloudy, and rainy on every track.

Like R. Giles pointed out, the career progression is longer now, starting with a team in the 125ccs. You can stay there after a season, or move up to the 250s. Then on to the motoGP class. You get five seasons for a career. It's crazy how many bikes are on a course at once in the 125cc class, 35. Cool. All the real liveries, teams, and riders for each class.

I like it a hell of a lot better than the last two. I think they'll tweak the options and such for 09 since this was their first MotoGP effort (aside from the SBK series).

You could, but the digital copy would only be in standard def.
