Holy Gears of War 2 fixes Batman! :eek:

Not to mention some updates :)

he following fixes and improvements are included in Title Update 2.

Exploit Fixes

Title Update 2 fixes these possible exploits, where under certain circumstances:

* A player could melee or grenade tag through certain walls.
* A player could equip a shield and a two-handed weapon simultaneously.
* A player could make their shield invisible.
* A player could become invisible.
* A player could do a "super" mantle or "kung fu flip," flying high into the air.
* A player could gain unlimited ammo with the Lancer Assault Rifle.
* A player could fire while roadie running (also known as "crabwalking").
* A player could pick up a weapon while sliding into cover.
* A player could walk forward while firing a deployed mortar.
* A player could force an opponent to be stuck in the down but not out (DBNO) position.
* A player could prevent other players from picking up a heavy weapon.
* A player could pick up a dropped meatflag without having to knock him down.
* A ragdolled player could be killed without ever going DBNO.
* A player could roadie run while firing the Scorcher Flamethrower.
* A player could get stuck while evading, though they could continue shooting in any direction.
* A player could concuss themselves under the stairs on the River map.

General Fixes

Title Update 2 fixes these other issues as well:

* An issue with client-side hit detection of the Gnasher Shotgun. The fix makes the shotgun more reliable in high-latency situations.
* An issue where players could have shotgun or Boomshot rounds fire into the ground when shooting from the hip.
* A split-screen issue where one player transitioning to the death battle camera disrupted input from the other player.
* An issue that could cause players' Look sensitivity to be changed to their Zoom sensitivity while zooming in, zooming out, and firing.
* An issue that could cause players to get stuck if they tried to pick up a heavy weapon while firing the shotgun at the same time.
* An issue where players could become stuck if they kicked over a shield while ragdolled from a smoke grenade.
* An issue where bots were unable to kick over a shield that was planted backward.
* An issue where players who quit during voting didn't show up in the end game stats, which meant other players couldn't easily provide negative feedback on them.
* An issue where players couldn't chainsaw enemy meatshields if the meatshields were already damaged.
* An issue where some players would not see the animation of a meatshield being chainsawed.
* An issue where players could not chainsaw an opposing team meatshield in a game type that doesn't allow respawns (for example, Warzone and Execution).
* An issue where a player partway through the act of raising or lowering the chainsaw did not transition into a duel when attacked from the front with a chainsaw.
* An issue where occasionally a player waiting to respawn could not respawn when repeatedly hitting the left trigger to switch cameras.
* An issue where some teammates couldn't communicate between rounds in games type that don't allow respawns, because dead team members were left in the dead radio channel until the next round started.
* An issue where a DBNO player could be seen as standing if knocked DBNO while reloading the mortar.
* An issue where a player joining a Private Xbox LIVE game in progress from another specific type of game could potentially lose HUD functionality.
* An issue on the Flood map where a player's dying from Imulsion did not trigger a death message or penalize the player as other environmental deaths did.
* An issue with Guardian games where if the leader is the last player killed on a team, the round may not end, due to the respawn timer.
* A campaign issue where the gamer picture would not be awarded when the game is completed on Insane.
* An issue where a player would continue to fire the flamethrower and damage other players if that player was knocked DBNO while firing it.
* An issue that could cause a player to get stuck while moving and quickly attempting to aim the mortar at the same time.
* An issue with Horde games where clients didn't receive the "waiting for host" message after they failed a wave.
* A Horde split-screen issue that could cause a team to get –2 billion in score, which when posted to the leaderboards looked like +2 billion.
* An issue where dead players may not show up in the metadata for multiplayer photos.
* A system link issue where if a multiplayer match and a co-op game were hosted at the same time on the same LAN, neither could be joined.
* Additional miscellaneous bug fixes.

Balancing

Title Update 2 makes these balancing changes:

* Made planted proximity grenade mines much easier to shoot off the surface they're planted on, by giving them 50 percent less health.
* Set grenades to respawn less frequently. When a player picks up grenades from a spawned location, a new set of grenades does not respawn until the previous grenades have been used.
* Increased the penalty to rank for players who quit Public Xbox LIVE matches early.
* Buffed the flamethrower to have stopping power (to slow a charging enemy) and to cause a chainsaw interrupt (to force the opponent to lower a revved chainsaw).
* Removed the ability to instantly shoot coming out of a roadie run.
* Added additional spawn protection to prevent proximity grenade mines and chainsaws from killing a player within 5 seconds after spawning.
* Balanced grenade spawn cycling on the Hail map so that both teams have equal access to both types of grenades.

We continue to test internally and monitor online gameplay to determine what else may need adjusting.

Improvements

Title Update 2 makes these new improvements:

* Changed Annex games to use execution rules, to prevent players from leaving DBNO opponents on the ground to bleed out.
* Made Horde waves count toward the "Party Like It's 1999" achievement. Each wave is counted as one round.
* Added the ability, during Submission games, to see the flag's final destination by using Tac/Com.
* Increased the frequency of most of the toasts for in-game achievement progression.
* Added achievement progression numbers to the War Journal.
* Added 7 new DLC-based achievements worth 175 points (progress toward them starts after Title Update 2 is applied):
o "Skeletons in Your Closet" (20 points): Complete waves 1 through 10 on all Flashback Map Pack maps in Horde (any difficulty).
o "Trial by, and on, Fire" (20 points): Complete waves 1 through 10 on all Combustible Map Pack maps in Horde (any difficulty).
o "More Mystery, Less History" (15 points): Win a multiplayer match on each of the 5 Flashback Map Pack maps (any mode except Wingman).
o "The Roof! The Roof! The Roof…" (15 points): Win a multiplayer match on each of the 3 Combustible Map Pack maps (any mode except Wingman).
o "Bound by a Shared Past" (15 points): Win a Wingman match on each of the 5 Flashback Map Pack maps.
o "Forged in the Fire" (15 points): Win a Wingman match on each of the 3 Combustible Map Pack maps.
o "Annex: Now with Execution Rules" (75 points): Win an Annex match on each of the Flashback and Combustible Map Pack maps (Public only).

The disappointing thing, though, is that the rounds didn't count for Horde before. That's about the only mode worth playing in Gears 2. When I lost that "desire" (or whatever) for the original Gears in 2/07, I just didn't care about investing a ton of time in this franchise as much any more. Sadly, it carried over to Gears 2. If not for the gift card I had at Circuit City (or the 1600 free MS points), I wouldn't have gotten it. I can remember playing through the Gears campaign 5-6 times (or more) for the original game. I even remember Keith & I playing into the wee hours of the night (so late he'd be saying how the sun was coming up in Florida). I just won't do that for this game anymore. It's sad, really! It's still fun, but it isn't that "must play" it used to be for me.

Nope ... went to Best Buy and applied for their CC. Got no interest for 18 months and the extra warranty so I don't have to mail it in if I get RRoD.

I'm a total n00b at this. Only even TOUCHED a 360 once back in August.

i think the driving in GTA is more realistic. Maybe that's not better to you, but could you really take a corner at full speed? IMO, no, so you shouldn't be able to in a game.

GTA really took a step towards realistic which i think turned off alot of fans of the series. i don't mind it but let me tell you the first time i flew through the windsheild i was really surprised

I'd suggest (when you can) to get the 120gb HD. Great for all the demos and game burning. Also, there is a great deal on the wireless network adapter for $70 on buy.com (http://gamerdeals.net/blogs/cheap-xbox-360/archive/2009/01/24/ending-69-99-xbox-360-wireless-network-adapter.aspx). It's down now but will occassionally pop up.

I tired to play a match earlier today, after the update, and much to my dimay, it's worse than before. Matches kept restarting over and over again, and it wouln't let me join my friend's party. I have to say I am done with Gears 2 online. It really is a shame. :(

I bought an arcade version instead of the elite. My HD worked just fine so couldn't justify spending that much money on a new system.

So for the $100 they'll upgrade it to the elite? They only said I would get a live subscription which I don't need right now. Do the cables from the regular xbox work with the elite? I'm thinking about just going to ebay and buying a console only.

put a bit of time into saints row 2 today. Now 22% done and liking the game a little more. Story line is great adn the activites are pretty fun.

Wish I was getting more achievments for it though.. Seems like all the achievments are for the extra stuff, not so much for the story.

Oh well :)

So for the $100 they'll upgrade it to the elite? They only said I would get a live subscription which I don't need right now. Do the cables from the regular xbox work with the elite? I'm thinking about just going to ebay and buying a console only.
no for 100 dollars they would fix my xbox that included a month subscription to LIVE shipping and repairs.

i'm one mission from being done with the Sons missions.

I like the game more and more. The Cutscenes are great and the story is good.

Not as good as GTA IV. But it's making me think about going back and trying the first game :)

i know that but buying the arcade and the 120 hard drive would have been 50 dollars less but buying the elite saved me the trouble of waiting for an HDMI cable

i bought the adaptor and it is a Pile of crap picture kept going to static on me and i tried two of them. best buy had/has them for 60 now i think

My question is this, how long is the warranty now for this 'new' system?
Also what was I hearing about Jasper systems? The new models that are supposed to have the RROD issues fixed.

If I got my system fixed I would be able to buy a warranty to make it a 2 year warranty. Yours is probably a year only.

The speed is the worst for me. Ive been running around with my head chopped off in Left 4 Dead. And now I have to take a slow and steady pace in RE5. Dont get me wrong, I love it so far. But its pretty hard to go back and forth. Much like how fast you moved in Crackdown, only to slow back down in GTA

Is L4D an owner? I have not been able to rent it - Hastings has ONE copy, and I refuse to go to Lackluster.

30% off ($42 + tax) is cheaper than used, but is it a game that has worthwhile replay value? I hear there is not a lot of variety online as far as maps go, but perhaps some will be released later. Does the unrelenting shooting of zombies get old or repetitive (in the boring sense) quickly?

Naturally, once I buy the game it'll be available for rent...stuff like that always happens.

Who here on the board plays it online? I prefer to co-op with you guys than random a-holes.

Your thoughts :)

Me, oaktown2000, Mack, and now Hornz play it all the time. The best part is, while it doesnt give you much in the lines of variety, the zombies almost never spawn in the same place twice. its not like other games where you say "around this corner, there are 4 zombies, one on top of the blue civic". Because its not always going to be there. Just like your ammo pickups will not always be in the same place. so that gives it some replay value.

alone, I might say its a rental, but playing with friends, its definitely a buy. I play it almost every nite

That sounds about right from what I have tried so far. If you are playing against some of the computer they pretty much kill you instantly. I havent tried in full room or anything and I dont really think I ever will, as I hate people on xbox live.

we hate you too:p it's really why i've enjoyed the option of party chat never again to i have to subject myself to the spoiled kids on LIVE.

but back to L4D the zombie side of the multiplayer is really a let down i mean if it's going to be that easy to die then the respawns should be alot shorter. i don't know if i've been in a full room or not but i would just like to survive long enough to actually do some damage to the other team

Well being a Boomer is your best bet of doing damage. As if you can even get one or more of the survivers puked on all the damage done by the horde that comes is credited to you.

Also it isnt just the spoiled brats, it is the people teamkilling, kill stealing and all the other lameness that comes on playing with people online it seems. That is why I pretty much only play with boardies or other people I know.

I just did this as well.

Put RB1 in your console, then go through the extras or something and you'll see something along the lines of song transfer or something that will go along with moving songs to your HDD.

You'll have to pay for it, but I think it's only like $10 which is better than buying the whole game.

Depending on your connection it may take a while since it's like 540MB.

I have 512 DSL and it took close to an hour, I believe.

So there was an announcement for Left 4 Dead DLC, talk about a disappointment. All it is going to be is 2 new versus maps (which will probably be just the two maps already in the game that dont have versus maps) and a survival mode. That junk better be free.

You can only use Microsoft points, the installation will take up 1.52 gigs of Hard Drive space, and you'll get every song off of the Rock Band 1 disc minus Metallica's "Enter Sandman," Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and Iron Maiden's "Run to the Hills."

It shipped on a Thursday, but UPS apparently doesn't do ground deliveries on Fridays anymore (if they ever did), so I ended up getting it the next Monday. Got a free month of LIVE, though.

They are---on PC. Newell has complained in the past about Microsoft's "iron fist" in terms of making developers charge for content via Live. I think only EA & Activision take pride in charging for content, what with being the 2 "big guns" in the industry.

I'm not usually a fan of the RTS genre but the simplistic and streamlined controls of Halo Wars is extremely user-friendly. I'm going to be playing the shiznit out of that game. And plus, as a fan of the series of games and books, being able to play some the backstory is alot of fun as well.

At least you could download something, Scott. I usually can download a 1.2 GB demo fairly fast to my 360, since I go wired with it. I turned my system on last night after getting home and let it DL, and left the room for a few hours. I came back to the room, and it was stuck at 32%. I cancelled and restarted, to no avail. I know there are "busy times" and all, but I usually have no problems, even with a "huge" release.

When the RE5 demo came out it wouldnt even let me download any demos or arcade games. They were all grayed out. I havent really checked since then, perhaps I will try to get the new demos later tonight.

Netflix was one of the best things I ever did.

For $15 a month, I get unlimited movies (2 at a time) which I usually watch while I'm at work on lunch and breaks and most times send them back the same day or the very next morning.

So it's like getting 20-30 movies a month for $15. That would be $100-150 easily at the video store.

yea netflix over the 360 is great... we recently bought a samsung bdp2550 blu-ray player and it also has netflix access... the picture quality seems slightly better over the blu-ray player but the ease of use of the 360 netflix menu is 100% better.

I do with you could just browse all available movies instead of going back on your computer to add a movie to your watch it now list.

You could go with Avatar and get 1000 points in about 3 minutes. For sure not a game you buy though.

I'm definitely still a n00b, but I've NEVER had fun with a console the way I have with my 360 ... and it's only been like 2 or 3 weeks.

I just need a weekend alone where all I do is play 360, take dumps, eat when necessary and keep playing 360.

But with a wife and 17 month old daughter, that ain't happening.

He yelled at her and called her a b*tch because he wrote something personal about his wife's pregnancy (she's around 20 weeks) in his pregnancy blog that she politely asked him not to, along with other not so cool things that my wife won't even tell me.

While she was gone I played L4D while my daughter lay next to me on the bed. I then played L4D again for several hours this afternoon at my wife's insistence as "appreciation" for taking such good care of our girl while she was gone:) Gonna fire it up again in a few minutes.

Campaign isn't so bad alone, sure wish I had some familiar people to co-op with online...wonder who that could be?

Just FYI to everyone. For the time being if any of us co-op together, don't be offended if I don't talk much or at all while playing, but I will at least listen to y'alls chatter - my daugther is in the bedroom at night and crib in the daytime. Going to gradually reverse that over the next month or so, though.

I finished No Mercy in L4D but did not get an achievement. Zoey died right at the end, so I guess since she was a survivor that didn't make the flight, I didn't get the achievement.

If I go back and play through rooftop finale without anyone dying, will I then get the achievement?

Did you do the entire level in 1 sitting? Because you should get it even if someone dies. Hell I got the last one and I died, but since the tank or whatever it is was there and at least one was on there I guess they counted it.

I got to the end in one sitting, but after dying twice and having to take care of my daughter the other night, I saved and ended the game.

I dont think you do. You have to finish the level from start to finish without going to the menu. You cant just start on Chapter 5 and get the achievement. Even if you have already done 1 through 4.

lol I know the only reason I played Lost was cause I was genuinely interested in the game not the easy gamerscore. I actually dont have all 1000 for it.

Same here. Though I do think I got all 1000 points. If you're a fan of the show it's definitely a game worth playing. I also played Fight Night 3 from that list. Great game. I can't wait for FN4 to come out.

Only trick is, I'm only on for about an hour or two at a time since the 360 is in our bedroom and when my wife wants to go to bed - I duck out.

I know this is the popular mantra for many, but have you played on the PSN? Some of the games are a mess. Then there's the whole lack of voice chat on some games. While that is a bonus for games against randoms, I find it vital to have the ability to talk to at least my online friends. While it took the 360 years to catch up to the old Xbox's XBL (with the more-than-one voice chat/party system), at least it is there now.

Had a nice round of L4D on the Dead-Air campaign with Cory & Kevin (KSkull) last night.

I'm sitting there peeking around corners afraid to get attacked and those 2 are miles away running straight through the level.

Cracks me up.

But I felt safe hiding behind Cory as he mowed down zombies and started taking his kills. :p:D

Yous should have seen me last night.

I'm like LITERALLY 5 feet from getting into the rescue truck and a Smoker grabs me and starts pulling me.

No one was around to help me out, so my health goes down to near nothing and then a horde just kicks my ass.

5 ****ing feet and I was good to go.

Died and had to do the whole level over. :spawnskul

Actually, if anyone needs help on the missions at all. I don't really play the Versus anymore, because too many people quit or glitch.

I will hopefully be back on starting Tomorrow or Thursday, 9 or 10 Central time.

We'll definitely kill some zombies together.

My strategies are: Shoot, kill and survive. I have no clue what to do, really.

I've been on frequently the past few days, but nobody's on playing L4D. When do you guys typically sign - 9-10 EST?

I played through No Mercy and Dead Air last night with 3 a-holes. It was not fun at all. I got smacked off the rooftop on No Mercy by a Tank that I threw a molotov on, so I didn't get the achievement for completing the level. Got it for Dead Air, though.

I'm happy to play through as much campaign with you guys as possible, we're just never on at the same time. What about tonight through the weekend - anyone have tentative plans for LIVE?

I don't know if I'd call it revolutionary... I've never played another RTS on a console so I can't compare, but they simplified the controls enough to make it easy to control units with the controller. It's actually very intuitive IMO.

Granted you can't garrison units like you can on a PC, but in the demo you could only control 30 units total.

Resource collection is seemless... you built the landing pad and just watch them fly in... no need to protect a field of whatever.

My only small gripe is the size of the base... upgraded you can only have 7 structures on it plus the 4 weapons platforms. It would be nice to have more without having another base site.

I found it sorely lacking. Compared to other games of the same genre, like LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth....it's too simple and lacks anything intuitive. It's a very basic version of a RTS game with Halo graphics added. To me...LOTR: BFME puts it to shame. As you stated...theres no real grouping...other then manually moving units to a specific area...then selecting "local units". You cannot quickly create a group of different unit types. It's either single unit....entire unit type....or local area unit. Also....the attack is really basic. Push X to attack....or push Y for a special...which must be done each time you want to perform it. You cannot tell a unit, for example, to lay down a volley of fire on a specific area. Trying to coordinate different attacks from your different units is a royal pain in the azz. That and the fact there is no work involved in gaining "resources". From what I've seen...it should be a $20 retail game. The nicest part of the game are the cutscenes :rolleyes:
