stick them in a scrapbook? that's what some of my friends do. Put down some details by the side, like release date, date of purchase, how you got them etc.

When I used to build tonnes of mecha kits, I'd take the truckload of instruction sheets I had lying around and compose a lay-out within a large picture frame and hang them up as frame art. Patterns could be created by alternating the grey scale or coloured sides of the instructions.

Dunno how gasha papers would look since I don't have enough of them to compose a frame but it's something to try I suppose...

That's coz it's an old statue.;) I wanna say 5-6 years old at least, so finding one, even on the secondary market is gonna be tough. It's quite possibly the coolest pose Kusanagi was ever depicted in, after the Japanese movie poster.

Mark im here kinda i just dont post anymore. on the 27th of this month the thread will be 1 year old. i know how work can be but no ones job is ever done, right? As for Batman Begins ive been excited since i first heard news on it. The trailers look great so i have high hopes for this. If all goes well the movies will live again. Im excited about the Knightfall info as well and im thinking on buying the whole set. im thinking it over for nightwing but more than likely ill buy him. As for Ninja Bruce i dont mind him at all. It would be nice if they make him with removable mask.

i need to stop doubting gashapon

cuz every time i do, i get a set that just blows me away... actually, maybe i should keep doubting them... because it's surprises like these that are going to keep me collecting.

for example: (two examples actually):

Futakoi: Awesome anime. Involves twins. So they release a set, and it includes two sets of twins, for a total of four figures all together. The Sakurazaki sisters, Kira & Yuna, two of the stars of the original 'Futakoi', looked like crap. All the promo pictures looked like crap, and even the live pictures that hit ebay when they were released looked pretty crappy. Now that I have them, they arent really much better, but the pictures online dont do them justice. They look good enough for me to proudly display, rather than push to the back of my shelf as originally planned.

Now, the other two figures, the Shirogane sisters, Sara & Souju, stars of the newer (possibly anime of the year worthy) "Futakoi Alternative", they looked mediocre in the promo shots. Not horrible, but not great either. But being a giant fan of the show, I decided I would get this set just to have them, even if the figures arent that great. And they are FREAKING amazing.


and the biggest surprise, the Ichigo 100% gashapon set. I was scared out of my mind for these. The promo shots look 'ok', and I figured they would either be great or horrible. Then they were released, and the pics started to hit eBay. I wanted to vomit. I was VERY close to just saying 'oh well, i dont want them anyway', and not getting them at all.

but of course, my love for the manga right now scared me into thinking "just get it, because i doubt will get much else out of this series anytime soon" (aside from the upcoming Nishino SRDX fig). and holy CRAP am I glad I did.

They couldnt be anymore perfect. I'm not sure what company made these off the top of my head (maybe Yujin?), but they did a great job. Paint jobs are nearly flawless. And what gets me everytime is the amazing level of detail that they throw in THREE INCH minifigures. It's unreal. One girl's nails are painted. Each individual fingernail. I've seen bigger pinheads! They even put detail on parts you'll never see! Each girl in this set has underwear that is specific to their character, which was featured at one point in the manga. But only to have them 90-100% covered by clothes!

Even my least favorite character (yui), who I was going to throw towards the back of my shelf is great. Not only is she my least favorite character, but she shipped from the factory with two right arms. Lucklily, the arms are in such a position where if I stick it in place where the left arm should be, it doesnt look all that horrible. (Asdie from the right hand fist sticking out of the arm) o_O

But yeah, THAT is how good they look. I'm displaying my least favorite character with two of the same arm!

I don't think i've ever had a gasha that didn't deliver, with the exception of the unwarranted modification on the Ichizoku set. You can spot the "bad" sets a mile away, and the quality is usually top-notch ( though stinkers are out there.)

What does it all mean? Stop buying anything that is not gashapon, you'll be glad you did. ;)

Size is a bit larger, and the paint, parts-fit and sculpt are excellent.

Truth to tell, most gashapon companies are improving with every set. :D

New anime-inspired figures coming in 2006...

The former retailer turned manufacturer Southern Island has landed one of the largest anime master licences in recent history!

Navarre Corporation, a leading publisher and distributor of a broad range of home entertainment and multimedia software products, announced today its wholly-owned subsidiary FUNimation Entertainment has awarded a four-year Master Toy License for numerous hit anime series; including Detective Conan, Fullmetal Alchemist (seen above), Fruit Baskets and Blue Gender, to Southern Island.

Expect to see highly-articulated 6 - 8" action figures and 10 - 12" "deluxe" action figures for all properties, as well as busts and statues for both Fruit Basket and Blue Gender.

Southern Island expects to have products ready to display for the International Fall Toy Show this November, with products hitting shelves in 2006.

Keep checking back for more news and information on the newest figures and collectibles from Southern Island!

the bandai real collections for naruto (as well as bleach) don't look all that great. theres a major problem with the plastic thats used which deform the faces. its strange how bandai get it so right with the dbz imagination gashapon and so wrong with the popular modern anime. the only good naruto trading figures imo are the naruto sceneic ones by megahouse and the latest naruto konoha emaki (card stand) that urashimaNick posted earlier

as for the side stories, it can't be helped. at the time of the end of the current arc, the anime was only a couple of chapters away from catching up with the manga had it stayed on course with adapting it. but thats with all anime, either add side stories or risk ending early. with something as popular as naruto, cancelling or postponing would never have been a wise option. anyway, to my knowledge, there's only been 2 side arcs so far, so it hasn't been thrown off course too badly

on a trading figure note, has anyone got the street fighter heroines mini trading bust set?? i'm looking into it and wondering about the quality of them. they look fairly nice from the pics on eBay

I havent got to see all of the series yet just to ep 16 and i think the series just ended in march in japan didnt it ? And the soundtrack is nice as well from that series . I am especially fond of the ending theme and am listening to it as i am typing this , lol the theme to that ending song just seems to suit my personality lol .Other than that ive seen a lot of misc. anime as well . Most of my net usuage is playing socom 2 online so if anyone else plays lemme know and maybe we can meet up sometimes ;) I havent forgotten everyone too Dino , Heartagramfan ( aka avp ) , 316what , valkeryiestorm , Chubs , and mr. Vegeta-pants :p and Dinoavp havent seen you around in ages either bud . i'm still deciding which versions to eventually go for. BOME recently showed pictures of their repainted versions which are more based on the anime colors, aya's hair color looks a little strange but maya looks alot better, especially the face

i'm still deciding which versions to eventually go for. BOME recently showed pictures of their repainted versions which are more based on the anime colors, aya's hair color looks a little strange but maya looks alot better, especially the face

I didn't inspect my Bome Blue Devil figure closely when I snatched it up. But now that I've had some time to study it, I'm not completely happy with the paint application.

The facial details are fine but the costume looked like someone had painted over it using matte paint not mixed to the proper consistency so it turned out a little lumpy.

The painted areas also appear to only be blocked in with base colour, no shading or washing done.

The borders of the painted areas also stopped short of their natural boundaries between surfaces. I.e. the skin tone is carried up onto the edges of costume parts.

I wasn't expecting garage kit quality paint applications of course, but I expected a little bit better--- especially in comparison to Aya Natsume, with her airbrush shaded blouse and her skirt with its carefully painted plaid striping.

But despite the problems with the paint, I would have bought the Blue Devil anyway since I missed out on the original version. It just means I'll be cracking her open early for a re-paint session. :D

It is odd, Oni Musume 2 was the first mass-released Bome' and she had Shading and stuff.

And that cruel expression is pretty cool. That little dwarf of a figure (which is not the correct size/scale compared to the manga/anime. He is supposed to be the same height as rei) can be pulled and pivoted horizontally in different directions to simulate Rei's killing technique in the manga/anime. I wish I had pictures of that, but unfortunately, it's contained;)

If you're going to be opening him, I'd say you should save yourself the hassle and the cost of an extra figure and just repaint the boots yourself.

Painting the boots pure black might make them look a little odd, or make them stand out too much. A scale figure modeling trick when dealing with black on costumes is to, instead, paint them a very dark blue that's nearly black.

Try mixing black with ultramarine blue. When that coat is dry, give it a paint wash of black, then seal it.

Just repaint the boots, hunting another figure down because of a paint difference isn't worth the hassel.

If there was something i didn't like about the Black Kenshiro paint-wise, i'd fix, not hunt down the original version. :D
