Do some more growing up, then maybe you'll realize that right now you're still at a stage of mental adolescence where a lot of things you did when you're young aren't "cool" anymore. When you get older, you'll realize(hopefully) that it's not a person's likes or dislikes that are childish, it's simply the person themself that dictates that.

Oh boy.

One Piece, DBZ, Sailor Moon and the like are childrens animes. To say that all anime are for children is telling of your ignorance. Anime is the prefered medium in Japan because it doesn't have the studios to make movies like America or other places do. It's cheaper for them to do an animated movie than to do live action as well.

I personally don't watch anime anymore because it doesn't suit me these days, not because it's all kids stuff. I've seen animes that were so complex that i had to watch a few times to get the meaning. Certainly doesn't sound like a kid would be watching those.

Anyway, i saw Mai and Sai yesterday. Skins too pink and Sai looks to have a rash on her inner thigh. Also saw the Love Hina PVCs. I almost got the the one in the pink bathing suit. But my days of shelling out 30 for one figure are just about done.

No, i think you're just childish, and you're trying to validate/justify your strange and unhealthy obsession with cartoons...

A guy who frequents an action figure collector's forum should be the last person in the world to criticize other people for being "childish" and accusing them of having a "strange and unhealthy obsession."

Some people have remarked that some of your recent posts have been uncharacteristically antagonistic, so I went back and read a number of your posts. I'd suggest you do the same and analyze your recent participation in several threads. I think it'll be made perfectly clear, even to you, who is being the child here.

Very nice, though for $160, I thought they would have gone for a different style head other than the usual CoolGirl-style head.

If I were to invest in that, I think I'd go all the way and spend the extra bucks to replace the head with an after-market 6th scale resin head... sorta like these here (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/hiroki/hp/doll/w.html).

And if you get some miniature glass eyes to put some extra work with a Dremel, you can get something pretty realistic. ...something like this here (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/hiroki/hp/doll/fei01.html). And this too (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/hiroki/hp/doll/rei.html).

Judging from the photos, Miroku has the "deer caught in headlights" look going on. :) But that should be easily fixed with a bit of paint.

I seem to have developed an attraction to kunnoichi-style characters as of late, so I'm definitely grabbing Sango.

But I think I'm going to do some major surgery on her pose. I actually don't mind the current static pose that much, but I think she'd look much better in a more dynamic pose. I think I'm going to alter her pose so she looks like she's about the launch the hiraikotsu.

The only other InuYasha figure I have is Kikyo, mainly because I like the miko costume. Admittedly, I was just a little disappointed with the quality of the figure. The lines and forms of the figure seemed a little too "soft" and a little too "bloated" for me. I was also a bit disappointed that, underneath that hakama, Kikyo's just a solid hunk of plastic with two feet stuck to the flat bottom surface.

Er, not that I was looking for some up-skirt action! :p It's just that it bugs me when figure manufacturers take the less expensive way out and skimp on the details when we know they can produce that bit of extra detail and still stay within the same price point.

I would have preferred that they recessed the bottom surface of the hakama farther up, then modelled her lower legs, say from the mid-shin or perhaps from the knees down... That way, if the figure is displayed higher-than-eye level, up on a shelf perhaps, it'll at least appear that she has a full pair of legs.

I usually have a thing for temple maidens and kimonos, but for some reason i just can't get into buying Kikyo.

frikafrax
07-16-2005, 10:29 AM
I know what you mean, IP. I hesitated on picking her up at first, not only because I had some issues with the figure quality, but I also didn't find the Kikyo character particularly endearing--- which is odd because it's normally not a strict prerequisite with me to actually like or know anything about the character on which a figure is based. Sometimes I buy on looks alone. But in the end, I caved in and picked her up anyway.

I will do some work on her first before putting her on display. I plan on modifying the hakama to the way I thought it should have been done in the first place. I also plan on re-stringing her bow with 24 or 26 awg. wire, and replace the fat plastic arrow with one that's more in scale, with a metal shaft, new fletches and tip. I might give her a new quiver full of arrows, but I'm not sure yet.

Finally, with a new paint application, I think Kikyo can turn out to be a pretty decent looking figure.

-F

Sounds good. I wouldn't be too motivated to improve her though.

Isn't some of her haori show through the holes in the hakama?

The side openings of Kikyo's hakama don't extend very far down the legs. On the figure, they're open down to just a short distance below the waist, through which you can see the haori, and then the legs are closed the rest of the way down the leg.

That's what i meant. I have a Sailor Moon gasha that i think needs the openings in the hakama painted white.

Cool! I bought the original issue soft vinyl kit versions of the Hard Suits many, many years ago and they were going for about that much at that time. With the increased popularity of anime I was hoping someone'd grab the BGC toy license and release new figures, but $60-$80? They better be diecast...

That reminds me... I still have a 12" Boomer figure and an unbuilt 12" Priss Hard Suit (same version in that photo) figure kicking around somewhere...

According to my research, using Nene's armoured height as the baseline and doing the math, they appear to be approximately between 1/10th and 1/12th scale.

Another view of the 2040 version of Priss' Hard Suit... The paint finish and left forearm is different on this version.

at that rate it's gonna cost me 431.95$ canadian PLUS shipping and whatever taxes/tarriffs our border decides to put on the parcel when it comes in... so I'll prolly end up around 500 for the set.

yikes!

who's going to but them at that price?! thats almost twice what the die-cast evas go for; and they're twice the size as these! (unless they made them bigger)

BUBBLEGUM CRISIS

The figures are 6". Entertainment Earth is too expensive (someone mentioned it). Yamato are the makers of these awesome figs. I am sure the price will go down when they are released in September. The price in yen will be,

Yen Price:

6,500
About $57.63 USD; €47.47 Euros

The Advent Children figs were originally going to be $30+ and the price is down to $20 and I have found them for $16. I am sure once the ETA is near the price will go down. Another pic. And yes they come with extra hands and heads. They are not diecast. : (

Certainly not McF production numbers.

Japanese figures are really over-priced. You got to keep in mind the astronomical costs for licenses and the competition. Plus the maker is a small firm that has to out source to Yamato to make them.

At least they'll be articulated and still look sweet.

I think I understand japanese economics a bit, thanks anyway.;):p I have to admit though, I don't know how much this particular licence cost in order to make these figures. Small company or not though, people will only pay so much a 6", relatively-simple, articulated figure methinks. I'd like to get a set, but not for those kind of prices.:(

Hey, how's deansta's I-no going? if you don't mind me asking, of course.;) I ran into a bit of a slump with my Saber kit. I made a big mistake by using some hardware store-brand primer straight from the can, and the surface was like 220 grit sandpaper after it dried. Soooo much sanding has to be done now.:( Well at least I learned a valuable lesson from that experience; Spray primer into a cup, thin, then airbrush instead.:D

Green_Lumux
07-20-2005, 10:00 PM
it's probably not the primer so much as it is the humidity... doesn't seem to matter what kind you use; it still does it. I use a 3 dollar brand of black from wall more for a lot of things, and it does that in this heat... my bud uses a 16$ bottle and has the same problem...

As for I-no; she's a great lil kit; the resin is a nice cast, there are some air bubbles, but a bit of putty and we'll be rockin. I was pretty surpised when it arrived; there were alot of parts! i wasn't expecting it to be so complex! the guitar's body is even cast in 2 pieces so it's actually hollow! very cool. I'm just doing the preliminary work right now, cleaning all the flashing off etc...

The_Redeemer
07-20-2005, 10:23 PM
Thanks for the low-down of the humidity deal, I wasn't aware of that. What's kinda weird though is that I sprayed some Mr. Surfacer 1000 in similar conditions, and it dried smooth.

The guitar is hollow? Awesome.:D Refect has to be one of my favorite sculptors, along with Cerberus Project. I got reflect's sara, but the eyes have me a bit worried to paint...they're so friggin' tiny! Can't wait to see how that i-no turns out.:D

I'm just doing the preliminary work right now, cleaning all the flashing off etc...

 :D Ohhh I am sooo excited :)

Can't wait to see how that i-no turns out.:D

same colour of primer? within 24 of noticing the "sanding" effect in my prime; i've use a grey, with no problems...it could have seomthing to do with the pigment as well; (both mine and my bud's primers were black?)

Anime is for children, are you guys really young? I'm 16 and i no longer like it. I did when i was 8. No one at school likes it any more, they say it's for children, so you must be kids? right? i'm right aren't i?
O MY GOD ARE U FOR REAL...I am in my 20's and i am an artist. Cartoons are for people who have an imagination and have dreams, it's entertainment just like any other crap on TV, or music. U are just a 16 teen year old that does not understand anime or any cartoon, it's all art, it's nice on the eyes. Are u a robot??? U know, a puppet??? U must be a boring person to have a conversation with.

Nope, I didn't use black. The store brand primer is light gray, whereas the Mr. White Surfacer 1000 is..er, white.

Quick update on the primer; I tried thinning the gray primer with a ratio of 1:1 primer/lacquer thinner after I transfered it into a bottle, and it brushed on and dried really smooth, then I tried spraying it and it went on all pebbly, with some of it just coming off like dust. So I'm guessing I mixed it way to thin to airbrush. As for my setup, I'm using a badger cresendo w/ medium tip, and was shooting at 30psi. I have a water trap and particle filter, so I don't think thats the issue here. I'm going to try not thinning the primer instead, and shooting at about 20psi. Think that'll do it?

Yup, I'm talking about the spray can primer. At first I tried spraying it straight from the can, but like I was saying before, it dried like sand paper. This happened twice, so I decided to try the "spray can-to-paint jar" trick I read about on hobbyfantics. Well after some trial and error today, I think I got it right.

May be easy to fix.

Invariably your going to have to buy a set. Take the stairs from Shinji or the other Asuka and use those. You may want to paint them, but thats a matter of taste. I think they sale "marble" paints in stores now.
