This is the third season of Deadliest Catch isn't it?

Last year they had a season with the King Crab.
Then a few months later they did a separate season with them catching Opelio Crab.
Then they came back this year with the King Crab again.

The first season was better before they started the new rules with each ship already having a maximum they can catch.
Last year when it was as much as you could catch in a certain amount of days was much more stressful.
There was no riding the storms out behind the islands crap that the ships keep pulling this year, with no time limit or rush to catch as much as they can.

Bill

avsfan21
04-20-2006, 03:50 AM
Actually the considered the King Crab and Opelio crab as one season. Just a break between it. The dvd set comes with both the King and Opelio crab on it.

It was better without the rules they put into place last year. I guess that is why they havent lost any ships so far this season, people are playing it safer than they use to. Although I kind of want to know what happened to that ship on the last episode, it looked like it capsized but that could just be the camera. That was crazy that it got hit by a 60 foot wave from the side.

I really do like this show. It's probably one of the better reality shows out there.

I didn't know they were going to have a second season, so I was stoked when I found out about this new season.

Those rules are meant to keep everyone safe, so it's a safety issue and I don't mind it. It must have sucked for that one boat to have the Coast Guard hang out for 2 plus hours scrutinizing every little detail.

I'm anxious to find out about that one ship next week too.

Are you guys rooting for any particular boat? I know each boat is a different size w/ capacity, but I'm hoping the Northwestern and the boat w/ the father/son combo does well.

I also like that crazy deckhand Hiram, on the Maverick.

So wrong but so funny.

I was thinking about that kid Blake - he's like 26 or something like that, but apparently he's grown up around it his entire life w/ his dad and now this skipper.

Who knows what this kid has done to get this job, but if the captain has confidence in him to turn the boat over to him, then so be it. It's messed up on both sides - I wouldn't want to disrupt the fishing season either, but if he made a promise to Blake, that's also messed up too.

Go Hansen brothers! :)

Blake is such a jack@ss. He quit the boat just because he didnt get to be the captin of the boat when the crew wasnt going to work for him. You have to earn the respect of the crew before you can be the captin.

Man the weather is just crazy. Everything was frozen. I dont know how they could actually enjoy that. Oh well to each his own I guess.

It depends on the contracts the Boat owner has with the sea food suppliers. Some boats are smaller so they don't get the bigger jobs like the Northwestern gets. They showed the tallies at the end of Season 1 and the crew of the NW Sigs boat each got something like $47-49,000 I forget which. Where some of the smaller boats only made 18k. BTW,Sigs boat netted something like $700,000 total.

R. Giles
05-25-2006, 02:21 PM
It also depends on if the ship has trouble. with the cornila maria they netted $800,000 but with engine troubles each deck hand only got $37,000.

LOL - it was a cool season finale last night.

I can't believe Rick from the Maverick fired Pico like that. But from the looks of it, he sounded like he was ready to move on w/ his life anyways.

Yea, Sig runs his crew raw...great suggestions in the suggestion box too. "Shower more than once a month"

Was it last season that Sig yelled at Edgar for screwing the count up? I want to say it was on that boat.

Oh, and WTG for the Rollo fighting back after that count mishap. Did they ever say if they avoided a fine or not?

I think I'm gonna half to get the first season on DVD and this one when it comes out :)

I cant stand crab or pretty much any seafood for that matter and im absolutely hooked on this show. Thats a testament to how entertaining it is. Its not really even about the crab, its about the struggle, the endurance. Its about putting your life on the line in search of the American dream. Its a modern day goldrush. Some of the pictures out at sea are quite astounding, im just in awe sometimes.

Most of these guys and there boats are from Seattle. They sail to Alaska every year for this. I would try the King Crab but, don't think i could handle the Opelio season. My wife said NO to both anyway. I love watching it. It's alot of money for about 2 weeks worth of work but, is it worth risking your life for?? Four guys on that boat and it looks like only one will make it back home. I think they find a body floating on next weeks episode.

Must agree! Amazing work! What surprises me is that these guys aren't tethered to anything when they're on the side like that. It's not just that boat too, as all the guys do this, just some do it in calmer waters.

But hearing those stories about sea sickness from "after the catch" is insane. I think all of us would say they could handle it, but until you're out there, we'll never know. bguppies
06-21-2007, 05:07 AM
You also have to hook on with the right boat and captain to be able to get the $40,000+ paychecks. (not every boat that actually goes fishing appears on the show. Only the small percentage that agree for the camera crews on board. For instance, the boat that the guy got rescued by Jonathan and the Time Bandit, was fishing for crab, but not on the show, other than the rescue.)
And that is after serving a few seasons as a greenhorn for half shares.
