i got my set of ice in the mail today!

however, i now know why my shipping costs seemed an usual bit high... when the guy included his "free case", he packed it along SIDE the cards... so instead of putting the cards in the case, and wrapping it up and mailing it... he made a little box, put the cards in bubblewrap, then put the case beside them, and made the box twice as large as it had to be..

needless to say i e-mailed him about refunding me a couple bucks back - since it could've been done better. i have no idea what he was thinking... anyway, set looks nice and i'm happy otherwise :)

on the Beckett tip... i just pick mine up a month later and pay half price at a local shop :) works fine for me.

i checked thru my Ice set to make sure everything was there, in lieu of a regular Giguere, i got a gold parallel # 6/40... kinda neat too bad it wasn't accidentally someone else (i can't imagine him having put this card in there on purpose).

Hey guys, I need some advice on graded cards. I am thinking of getting an Iginla graded rookie, but I know zero about graded stuff. Any advice/tips would be good. What is a good grade and what number should I stay away from? What kind is the best? Anything!

for modern stuff i wouldnt get anything under a 9 unless it was a higher end card,a nd even then I dotn go lower then an 8-8.5.
If its just a reg card non auto/jersey etc I'd look fora 9-10 grade from Beckett or PSA.

You should get a Beckett graded card if you want the best grades. You should also do research on the population report to see how they are doing in the world (how many exist)

thats all of iggys cards. If you want a good RC at a decent price the 8.5 SP looks good with 59 in total. Just my opinions though.

We also played pack poker. For those who don't know, when you got a few guys you all pay some cash to clean out a box. We had 5 guys and decided on Classic Portraits. SO we all got 4 packs. Now we all open a pack at a time, and the highest numbered card wins all the cards pulled from the packs in that round. Since jerseys, and alot of inserts are numbered differently, you do not want those, you want a card that has high number (i.e. 167). The round I won I got a Thibault Classic Stitches Jersey (2 colour), and a FORSBERG/SAKIC/KARIYA 48/99 Triple Jersey- Each player has a different colour swatch- BV: $100.

thing is apparently Pacific is closing shop so you can probably find that box in the coming weeks for dirt cheap . ide wait a little while if i were you razkor .

ill be not at all happy if pacific closes down , that will suck for sure .
granted they made alot of crap ( much like upperdeck ) but they really did from a design standpoint some really nice stuff over the years and i will miss not breakin pacific product , i was always satisfied with their products for sure .

man if BAP and PACIFIC both go under and all we have left is UpperDeck then like sucks . cause TOPPS has already said at one point they are phazing out hockey and if only UD is going to do hockey that sucks cause they make more junk and bad design then anyone else .
their product line is so watered down with the exception of mask collection which is my favorite concept ever with the mini masks .
i hope the shortage in lines coming out this year really gets them focused on making some quality products and not just throwing out ADOBE premade effects onto cards and slappin a player picture ontop of it .

i think the hobby and the game are gonna be forever changed by this year and i hope its for the better .

i dont know about you guys but i really hope that UD starts a series like topps did ( rookie update traded or whatever the heck it is ) where they throw all the crap players into just to get them made and leave room in the higher end products for the elite prospects and such cause i know i hate bustin a box that cost me 100 bones to get stuck with SLAPPY JOHANSON signed butt plug .

there is this old man at the dirt mall that works for a card distributor down here that ive been buying stuff from for years and he gives me killer deals on stuff , i get most boxes for around 5-10 over cost .

no card shops anywhere around here but i got old man john so things are good on that front , i just hope he doesnt die anytime soon . ;)

im in atlanta and there arent any shops here that are any good , most of the stuff here caters to nascar fans for the most part .

the only shop per say is the old man and he only sets up on weekends but its worth the hike to the burbs to get stuff on the cheap .

its a cool place to cause all the old guys card nerds show up there an bust crazy amounts of stuff cause they have retirement checks or are just loaded and sit there all day bustin box after box of **** its nuts .

this one guy norm who played for the NEW YORK GIANTS back in the 50's bust like a grand worth of boxes every weekend at least and he pulled this dual bat barrell of reggie jackson and mattingly i think it was , im sure about the reggie but i cant remember who the other one was but it was a 1of 1 and he got 2 g's for it on ebay .

its like watching the world series of poker with these guys they are totally addicted and spend tons of money of that stuff .

i usually buy the 30 dollar box of pacific whatever and it hurts my pocket to do that most times cause im in school and dont have alot of money to waste on stuff like that , and i feel out of my league with those guys .

i did pull a vince lombardi cut auto once that im gettting graded but as far as hockey stuff i generally dont pull anything big but i still love it the most .

actually i take that back i bought a box of mask in may and got a broderu autoed mask 1 of 25 but i had to sell it to make my rent . only got 150 for it but hey you do what you gotta .
