Kings are gonna be young, and they won't win a championship with Huet and Cechmanek in goal. I like the kings as well... Mostly Ziggy, but I follow them enough to know it'll be 2 or 3 years before young talent like frolov, brown, etc develope.

Made a decision...

I will have $450 to spend at the show in December. I will buy one of the following if I find any (in order of preference):

1 (tie). Aebi Saviors Patch - Roy Under Glass
2. Roy/Aebi SPGU Patch

If I don't find any of those, I will buy 1 box of SPGU and spend the rest on boxes of Ice. If I do find any, I'll spend the rest on boxes of Ice.

I can't wait for this show... the anticipation is killing me

I bought a pack of UD MVP 04 hockey the other day, bought 2 of them actually pulled a rookie class A Redemtion card And what appears to be a silver Auto of Alexei Zhamnov #'ed 108/150

By far my best hockey pulls to date.

Mikey... hate to break it to you, but the redemption card you got is for some low end rookies (booking anywhere from $2.50 - $6.00) and the Zhamnov is not a real autograph and books for $1.50

The Silver Scripts are just a Parallel set within MVP. The auto is a silver replica of the players real auto. They are usually numbered to 150. They actually look kinda cool. There are real autos in MVP like the posts above mentioned called ProSign, but the odds are pretty slim.

I guess my Hasek XLDH 01/02 BAP SS Auto is pretty good. I also pulled a Datsyuk/Kapanen duel patch 01/20 out of this years Bowman. I pulled a Boyd Kane Young Guns 10/10 out of UD S2 this year. Boyd Kane is a nobody, I wish it could have been Zherdev. My Bourque Signature Gems auto from Black Diamond is my favorite, cause I love Bourque.

IN THE GAME ESTABLISHES LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH NHL FOR 2004-05

In The Game is pleased to announce it has reached a licensing agreement with NHL Enterprises to produce trading cards featuring retired NHL players in 2004-05. Tentative plans call for the production of as many as three different brands throughout the upcoming hockey season. Currently included in the mix is Ultimate Memorabilia 5th Edition.
In The Game will continue many of the collecting traditions that have made such a strong impression with hobbyists over the past several years. There will be a continued emphasis on producing high-quality game-used memorabilia cards while keeping production totals low. Autograph cards will also remain a major component in each brand.




2004-05 Heroes and Prospects... Another Sneak Preview

The final touches are being added to In The Game's first release of 2004-05, Heroes and Prospects. Slated for release on November 10, it features top prospects from the Canadian Hockey League and the American Hockey League as well as an array of retired hockey legends.

In addition to the 180-card base set, every Hobby Box will contain an average of two Autograph cards and is guaranteed to include one game-used memorabilia card.



Among the memorabilia card highlights is a three-card set entitled First Overall featuring future superstar Alexander Ovechkin. The first-overall draft choice in 2004 by the Washington Capitals, Ovechkin is widely regarded as a franchise player. This will be the first opportunity for collectors to acquire his game-used memorabilia cards.



Another highlight of the product is a set of one-of-one cards called Prospects Complete Emblem. Each of these gems features a blue-chip junior prospect on a card adorned with the complete Canadian Hockey League emblem from a game-used jersey. These are among the most striking cards we have ever made.

Sounds like Upper deck have a couple decent products coming out for hockey! The 6 signature football card with Marino, Elway, Namath, Vick, Pennington and ? This card looks absolutely amazing in person!

Ok I need your guys' advice.

Don't know if you remember me taking about that Havlat auto I won a couple weeks back for 20 cents plus shipping. Well I got it late last week and the card has a little ding on the corner. Obviously whether I paid 20 cents or 20 dollars for it, I wouldn't have bought the card if I knew about the ding. I emailed the guy TWICE before he finally mails me back. He gives me attitude the whole email, saying how he never said the card was mint (Who's going to buy a card if it says it's dinged) and if it means so much to me just send the card back for a refund. Not like I'd even trust him after the attitude he was ginving me.

Nevermind the fact I paid 3 bucks US for shipping and it took damn near 2 weeks to get it from a guy that lives in the same city as me, and postage said 90 censt and it wasn't US. He's already given me positive feedback so I ain't worried about a backlash. Should I neg feedback him or just forget about it?

i just got an email back from the guy and he told me the cards are glued down thus ruining the cards and making them about worth as much as a turd spray painted gold .

just thought you guys should know that .

i mean i could buy the joseph that i like and use some adhesive relaese and try and get the card off but ide rather not have to go through all that and it would be cheaper to just buy an autoed card .

the stick ones are nice though .

What a waste, I saw those and was thinking about buying one...

I am currently doing a mock-up of a Team Canada display, as I have auto cards from everyone (except Hannan) and I plan on keeping the cards in toploaders to protect them. I'll be doing the same with the tickets I had from the World Cup of Hockey and also a photo collage with Team Canada 2004 - World Champions (or something similar) that I am still putting together in photoshop as a 'header' in the top of the frame.

All of my framed photos have the pictures in top loaders and you cannot tell, but it means the photos aren't taped and don't get damaged.
For reference, if anyone is pitting pictures in a frame, the best tape to use is white hockey tape, it's non acidic and doesn't stain the picture.

Have a great weekend guys, I'm off to a little place outside of Peterborough, Ont to be my buddies Best Man at his wedding on Saturday. I think he's giving me a Priest Holmes autographed football from a photoshoot this summer in Toronto as a present. actually its not bad but the best thing you can do is to use this stuff called P-90 , or just use mylar sleeves .
p-90 is a totally reversible acid free tape that can be removed with minimal problems and its totally archival and the same with mylar sleeves they are archival and wont damage your prints cards etc at all .

something to keep in mind also if your taking something to get framed like an autographed picture , ALWAYS get CONSERVATION clear glass .
its a UV protective glass that basically works like sunglasses for your art work , its more exspensive but trust me ive seen autos get totally ruined when something has been exsposed to sunlight or even inside light without protection .

always use acid free mats and backing too.

but acid free hockey tape proabaly isnt bad but ide think the adhesive is pretty aggressive and if you ever tried to take it off it might tear your stuff .

anyhow , if anyone has any other questions feel free to ask .

hopefully i wont be a framer much longer once i get done with school , but ill still pass along good advice when i can .

I believe it has to do with government regulations, stating that companies are not allowed to just give stuff out for nothing, you always have to answer some easy math question.

Well now that my money from my first Lemieux auto is coming back (hopefully) I can start searching for a new one.

Under where it says Lemieux and the gold color and white color meet up theres seems to be some kidna white mark on the gold. Do you see what I see or am I seeing things? Seller says its mint. After the last ink stained auto I might be to paranoid but I really see something.

Yes they have tournament worn cards, and autos! That Weir rookie sold for $50 at the Toronto Expo last year! :eek: Upper Deck have 3 golf products (SP Authentic, SP Game-Used, and the regular UD Golf) There was another product called UD Renditions last year, but I don't know if there will be that one this year!

ya know what i really dont like the premier cards at all .
the base cards are ok but the patches and jerseys are all coverd by
part of the card .
not to mention that most of the jerseys are tiny and covered by card which sucks . if im gonna blow 3 bills on a box of cards i want huge patches and huge jerseys that arent covered by part of the card .
i think the design of these cards is really lacking and the autos look
like crap in my opinion .
thats the main reason i havent finished up my aebischer auto collection
with one of these cause they look like pooop .
i was really dissapointed in the cards and im glad i didnt sink a couple

Does anyone remember as fondly as I do the days when there was one set to get? I miss the days when you opens pack after pack to find your player, or do the ol' Need im got im trade ya. Maybe that's too far back. But I still have my Upper Deck hockey, first three years from 90 til 92-93, and flip through that album with great memories.

I remember it very well. I always got the Pro Set and Score cards, because they were the cheapest, and I ended up with a ****ty set, and I had a ton of Upper Deck. There are too many cards to follow these days, and the packs are a lot more expensive nowadays as well.

Also, are Game Dated cards worth anything? I think it's Upper Deck, from the late 90s.

Leafsfan there's a TON of hockey going on still, between theAHL, CHL (St. Mike's in your area) and other stuff that's out there. a good chunk of the population in Toronto is Leaf-centric. You could have had AHL hockey this year, but you completely ignored it last year. I went to one of the games and it was downright pitiful - only about 1,000 people in a 10,000 seat arena.

UD series one is slated for November and they have a legends release coming out around that time also. ITG's legends and prospects set should be out around the Expo.

Actually, I'm going with my wife and 3 daughters to the Barrie Colts game on Saturday! Great hockey, at an affordable price! We also have tickets to the NHL Oldtimers vs Barrie Flyers Alumni game on Sunday November 14th! Its held in Barrie, as well! :D

Yeah it feels weird with no hockey. I can't explain it but I went to a Moose game with Razkor over the weekend and it just felt weird to me being there with "no hockey" being played right now. I guess just cause I follow NHL like crazy but don't really follow any other leagues, I don't know.

i went to an AHL game Sat.
do most AHL games have no pace to them?
and their were way to many fights.
is that common in AHL or just cause it was a 5-0 game and Manchester dominated the whole game.

ahl and alot of the other league like the echl and some other ones its all about being noticed and the best way to get noticed if you cant score alot is to ****ing fight and that **** happens all the time at least in the echl anyhow .

Hey guys. I have this special idea, want to here your takes on it.

I was thinking (if enough people wanted anyway) of doing like secret Santa type thing on the hockey card thread. It would be pretty simple, anyone interested would PM me there address, and a list of 5-10 players they like. After receving as many as interested, I would randomly select everyone's secret Santa. Then PM them the name, address, and list of player's they got.

I was thinking of a minimum of $5 (with shipping) to a maximum of $20 (with shipping) for the limits. Now, I mean if whoever wanted to go over, thats fine, its your choice. You don't necessarly have to buy either. If you have something in your collection, that matches one of the players on someone's list, and are willing to send it, then its a done deal. If not, you could buy on ebay, or at a local card shop, or trade on the boards, or beckett, just wherever. I would like to limit this to just RC's, jersey cards, low numbered (100 less) inserts, and autographs, just because reg. cards, and reg. inserts are just way too common.

I am mainly doing this for 3 reasons:

1) To spread a bit of Christmas joy to all
2) To help build the collections of fellow boardmembers
3) To help livin' up the "Hockey Card Thread" again, as lately it seems to have been a little slow

Now I trust anyone involved in this, would keep there secret person a "secret" ;) . And, would hope that all could ship the card (s) by December 10th, so it will arrive for Christmas, where in it will reveal who was the sender.

I will give this until Monday night, to see how many people are interested. And if I am able to get about at least 5 people I think it is do able.

Dan its certainly an interesting idea, as long as people are reliable :)

One problem would be getting duplicate cards, people might get cards they already have and people with collections like Tim who have every Turco card under the sun. But I guess he'd just have to chose someone he doesn't have ;)
