The Turco's I bought off ebay for 60$ (all the rookie year ones), the Complete Package cost me 100$ off of Beckett, the Luongo was ebay for 30$, and the last 2.... not sure of their origin. I have only seen the Roy/Luongo once, and that was at the 02-03 All Star game and it was on display

I need to get a few more of this screw down. It's the only one of this type I have, and it's the only one I've found that accepts the marginally larger Russian cards; all their cards are thin, so it doesn't have to be the memoribillia type.
Look closely round the edge and you'll see it's got ribbed edges where the card sits.

I know this is a bit anal, but I've got some very rare Russian cards arriving soon and I'd really like to put them in screw downs. Very grateful for your help.

So what do you all think about what going on in the card world? Donruss/Playoff/Leaf will not have a license to make MLB products next year, and all indications are that they will not be able to use the Pacific license for hockey this year. ITG still does not have a license with the NHLPA, and Topps has not said if they will be making any products for the 05/06 season. This could leave us with good old UD as the only source for NHL products (and a monopoly on Crosby RC's). Your thoughts? Personally, I think it sucks the big kahoona, and I have heard from very reputable sources that UD has cut a deal with the NHLPA to only grant 1 license, an UD license, because UD wants exclusive rights to Crosby rookies and autographs.

We're all looking forward to the upcoming season and lots of new cards. That would really suck if Topps couldn't make anything. Donruss/Playoff could do some amazing stuff with a hockey license.

If you havent heard the rumors that UD might be the only product next year for us
here is some more bad news.
IF UD does indeed have exclusive rights look for them to bring over NBA product
Exquisite to NHL. The product is great, the price is not. this years packs started at most stores for over $900 and online at over $700 a pack for 5 cards. Not sure how well it will work in the NHL hobby. but will be nice for Dual Auto Logo's of Mario/Crosby Crosby/Wayne Crosby/Ovelschkin which would all sell for $5000+
great product just real hit and miss.

Personally Im REALLY happy Montreal ended up with the #5 overall pick :). I wanted them to get a top 6 pick, as there are 6 very good prospects in this draft. As much as I would love to see Benoit Pouliot (Sudbury Wolves players- hometown boy) in MTL, I doubt he'll drop to #5...but Im happy saying hello to Bobby Ryan, Anze Kopitar or my personal hope...Gilbert Brule, who if he is still available, I guarantee Montreal picks him. They always like bringing Quebec born players home. :D

The UD-only rumour i belive originated on the beckett board, where someone posted that sackskin... er.. Saskin wanted only one company to be producing.

I'm certain this is not the case.

What I expect to happen is this. The PA knows they are headed into a hot RC year and will open the market to all four companies (UD, ITG, Topps and D/P), with restrictions of course on the number of sets.

After this year they will evaluate the market and cut the number down to two. Given that Topps has bailed on hockey before, I can't see them going beyond a single year, which leaves D/P and ITg to fight it out.

Just my 2 cents.

i think that was a terrible design flaw of that set was that you cant see the patch through the hole very well at all.
really bad design on UDs part .

Can anyone think of any things I can do to help encourage bidders? I know there are a few big time dealers around here, so I'm going to offer to have them pick-up if they are in the area. I'm trying to sell my collection as a whole. I'd guess it's around 15,000 cards, and the Beckett value is probably close to $15,000. That's why I'm listing them all, so I can get a fairly accurate count and total price.

As I said, I want to get rid of it as a whole. That's why I'm offering to meet the buyer at the Expo. Shipping on all those cards would probably be at least $100, and I don't think a lot of people would be willing to pay that price.

I hope to get at least $1,000 for the collection. I've invested so much time and money into it, that it wouldn't be worth it for me to get anything less.

Depending on what kind of cards you have in your collection, you could make ALOT more than $1000 selling them seperately. A person doesn't want to spend like $1000 on a lot of 15,000 cards when he only really needs a handful...but thats just my opinion.

Can someone trawl thro a past copy of Beckett and see in the short report if a H&P Auto Jersey of Ovechkin /5 has ever been sold and if so for how much.

Sparkes777 from the Beckett board was offering his H&P H&S card of Ovechkin/Crosby /20 a few weeks ago, and was trying to get the best offer for it. Almost everyone was offering around the $200 - $250 trade value mark. So I emailed him and offered $200 cash. He then spent the next few days pimping his card and broadcasting my offer as the one to beat, I was a bit miffed by this and told him I needed an answer soon before I changed my mind. He then emailed me back and said he'd gotten a better offer. I kinda jumped on him a little bit about it because I thought his ethics sucked.

Now I just noticed that he's got the card listed on eBay and it's got a $500 reserve on it, so I guess he didn't have a better offer afterall.

Is this something any of you guys would call someone out about? I guess technically he's done nothing wrong, but damn I do think he's a bit low with his trading ethics.

It sucks that he did that but when it boils down to it it's his card and he can do what he wants with it. I'd just let it slide and make a note to not trade with him, and maybe let other people know about it if he tries to do any trades with anything.

I grabbed the last Beckett and it had no Ovechkin's out of 5, but a Jeff Carter jersey/auto out of 5 went for $152. I'll check a few others issues and see if there are any other of those listed.

It sucks that he did that but when it boils down to it it's his card and he can do what he wants with it. I'd just let it slide and make a note to not trade with him, and maybe let other people know about it if he tries to do any trades with anything.

Yeah you're probably right, for once I used my brain and thought to get someone's opinion on this, I didn't fancy making a big deal about this on Becketts and then end up making myself look like the ***.

Thanks Jason, yeah I suspect it's gotta be in one of them. I've checked the Feb/March issue and there isn't one in there.

Have you thought what you're going to do about Crosby? I'm a die hard Pens fan too, and while I'm thrilled about getting Crosby, I'm not so thrilled about the prospect of shelving out ridiculous amounts of cash to get his rookie cards. Add Malkin into the equation and my existing Ovechkin collection and it figures to be an expensive year. I think I may just make do with his Premier Collection Rookie and have done with it.

The newest Beckett, which I got Saturday, only has short reports from UD Ultimate, UD SPA, and Ultimate memorabilia. But, I went backa couple issues and found some more. No Ovechkins, but a few that should help you get a good idea.

I couldn't believe it when I watched the lottery and they won. Sometimes I think about it and I still can't believe it. It's just huge for the team. I can't wait to see him play. It'll be real tough card wise though. I don't have the funds to shell out for a top end rookie, so I hope there is a low or mid level product that has his rookie card so I can get one or two. Something like a Topps (are they out?) or MVP. Even if its only a $20 card, I'll be happy. I just had my first child and my wife had to stop working sooner than we expected so things are tight until she goes back to work. I probably won't be able to hit the cards like I want to until after the end of the year. New priorities now. I'm working on getting all Joe Mullen autoes and GU, so if you ever come across any, please let me know. Also, trying to get a lot of the Pens stuff from H & P. Don't have the sweet cards you do, but I try to make do. Are you still looking for a Malone from ITG VIP Debut? Is that the one you posted for on Beckett? And screw that guy that was playing you. Hope he settles for a lot less than you offered. Take care.

I think it's the best thing that could have happened for the team, it's going to help so much in securing a new arena, I just cant see how the powers that be could let the team walk now. I may well be coming back over in Feb now, I'd say it'd be a near cert if they get Malkin over too.

Nope the Topps wont be out for a little while yet I'd imagine, certainly not until the start of the season anyway, and I'll be sure to let you know if I stumble across any Mullen autos.
Thanks for asking but I managed to get the VIP Malone card, I think all bar perhaps 1 or 2 I have everyone of his rookie cards now. I know I need the Topps Gold Rookie, not sure what else.

As for Sparkes777 well I'm sure that guy will get more than I offered, but certainly not his reserve.

You know how you can wait for weeks for one of your "grail" cards, and then when one does, a few come along? Well thats whats happened to me, and they're all expensive, so I dont really know what I'm going to do.

I saw that Whitney, its sweet. There's also a pretty nice Colby Armstrong In the Numbers, but I can't afford it. I didn't mean is Topps out yet, but will they be producing cards for next season? I know how it is when a bunch of stuff come at once. I found out about all of the Mullen's in Ultimate Memorabilia right after my wife had to stop working. I don't know why I always look at the cards I do because I know I can't get them and drives me nuts. Like the Whitney and Armstrong, I keep checking for cards of them when I know I can't buy any.
