Brew - Some nice stuff on there. I noticed that the Stars white jersey is made by CCM and the green one is KOHO. Is this normal?yes, that was the standard since the start of the 2000 season, after Pro Player bowed out. League wide, white jerseys had CCM on them, and Darks and Thirds made by Koho (even the Leafs 3rds, which are white, are Koho)
and if you're all about Turgeon, I think the St Louis jersey is nicer than all those Dallas jerseys

Well guys first trip into the card store since I bought my box. I found out that from the case I picked from someone got a box with the Crosby auto.....what ya gonna do.

Today I bought 4 packs and pulled this..................

I'm guessing Steve paid attention to where the rookies, and jerseys were located while opening his boxes, and took those same location packs from a new box at the card store! :D All my dealers shuffle packs on purpose, so I can't try that. Upper Deck is famous for putting their jersey cards, autos etc in the same spot in their boxes! :rolleyes:

The former owner of my local cardshop was honest and I let him pick my packs, and he let me pick my own packs too if I wanted. I know that the bookstore in town didn't let people pick their own packs so people couldn't cherry pick the boxes and everyone got a fair crack at it. I'm not quite sure I trust the new owner of the shop yet though. A few days ago when I stopped by to pick up a few loose packs of SPX, I saw something that was in direct violation to the card collectors code of conduct, he let a customer pinch packs from a fresh box of SPX and replace them with packs from a box of SPX he had bought and already pulled the jerseys out of. And he onced talked about doing a few questionable things on E-bay, i.e. schill bidding although he said he didn't know it was wrong.

If he sees this I'm probably gonna get black listed from his shop, the guy doesn't seem dishonest himself he just doesn't have the sense to figure out that somethings can't be allowed to happen in his store if he wants to stay in business. I know I'm not going to be buying anymore loose packs from him unless I see the box opened infront of me. If the customers can't trust him he won't have any customers. And with the amount of stuff guys in town buy off e-bay and the connections they made while we were without a card shop (4 years) he's gonna have a hard time staying in business.

So, I finally picked up my long-awaited box of SPX Hockey. Now, this product, for those of you who don't know, is known for rookie cards with swatches of the rookie along with that player's autograph. Really nice looking card. Also, there are some nice jerseys, and other stuff.

Pulled a couple memorabilia cards, a Iginla WM, and a Khabby/Ruutu WC. Got the non-auto'd rookie jersey of Slater. Pretty good box so far.

Pulled a couple of inserts, a ****ie Moore Legends, another Iginla insert, and a Gaborik insert.

And that's it. What's missing? A rookie auto/jersey - the pull of the box. Can I call Upper Deck quality control? Anything I can do? Any help would be great. Thanks!

My one without anything in all honesty,I was not sure about. I left 1 jersey card in the box which would be the unsigned jersey card.
Now here's the challenge, I'm at 75%....lets see who beats it. I'm going for 100% next time. When I get my 2 boxes, I'm going to see if can pull all the jersey cards to see if this really does work. So far the numbers show. $40 cash with 3 cards higher in BV value....go get'em boys!

It wasn't the owner that replaced the packs it was just a customer who didn't feel like he had gotten his money's worth. The customer just opened a second box and bent/pinched the packs like micheal doyle did and took the jerseys from it and replaced them with packs he had left over from his first box, so for the price of one box he essentially got the jerseys and autos from two. Now there's a box that looks essentially fresh (all the packs) but has squat in it. And the owner let it happen, he essentially didn't have the balls to tell the customer no.:(

Upper Deck should have put cardboard decoy's in these packs to make them less searchable. But I guess that since the majority of people are buying it by the box it's not really an issue. Just a warning to those of us who like to buy packs I guess. ( I don't think there are many of us).

As a person who buys loose packs I think that it is partially the owners responsibility to keep them from being searched. I know that I wouldn't want to buy loose packs from a box if I knew it had been searched by the owner or a customer. It's about the integrity of the owner. If he wants to let people search his packs thats up to him, but the person who searches them after you is only going to buy one pack if you did leave a jersey. And the person who searches it after them isn't going to buy any. The owner is going to be left with 14 packs that nobody will touch. I believe that the only way to keep it fair for collectors who wish to, or can only afford to buy loose packs is to not allow searching.

What you did was obviously allowed at the place which you shop, if you're not violating the stores rules, no foul. If the owner opened the box and placed it on the counter then went to the bathroom, and you franticly searched the packs since he doesn't allow it. Then I would say your violating your stores code of ethics. It's a grey area.

On another note, I know their isn't really a "card collectors code of conduct", but just some gentlemanly rules we use when trading and buying between each other. Should we put these rules to paper?

Such as:
1. When making a trade it is common to decide whether to trade for book value or per card. However remember that older cards are not always in demand and due to low e-bay value no one may want to give you $100.00 BV for your Standing Ovation Yzerman.

2. It is against the code of conduct for dealers to cut back on first shippments to stores only to miraculously find more product at a greater cost a day later.:rolleyes:

i don't think those odds are every guaranteed... stated odds over entire production run (you might talk to one of the boys in the thread that got 2 auto/jerseys in their box)... i don't think UD will do anything, but you could and try (never hurts to try).


Oildrop - that's what i mean, either way the owner knew the box had essentially been searched.


Micheal Doyle - i don't think what you did was wrong. you happened to be able to tell where the cards are. you aren't a dealer, and you aren't selling the leftover packs. if you know what pack has the card in it - why wouldn't you take that pack? it could go either way really... but realistically i'd say the dealer shouldn't give you enough time to search the packs - if he wants to let you, that's his call :)

the absolute bottom line is there should be decoy cards in these sets.

I understand you guys have some rules, sure they aren't far off from trading Spawn figures ( which I built a very solid rep on ). Let me just ask one question, if you were buying Spawn figures do you just buy anyone or the hard to find one? Do you take the first one on the peg or search for a mint one?

You know I understand what your saying about buying packs, I've bought TON since the 70's when they didn't have any of this inserts,over production,13 different sets,6 different rookies....you get my drift. Now you can think that the problem would the dealer but it's the card company, Supply and demand which means, if you figure something out, use it. Now I could have said nothing, kept it to myself, but I didn't. If I'm hearing Shakes getting a dead pack and can use a hand, well he's going to get it. You are forgetting there are other cards in that set, cards you can't feel. I collect auto cards and auto jersey cards so the rest are always up for trade.

Do I understand the value of what I get, yes and I do know the different forms it comes in. I've listen to many people in a card shop, line waiting for SP's try to BS me. I'm always willing to share info or help someone out.

From the sounds of this I think I'll be more selective with what I say and who I say it to. Did I mention how long I've been going to this card shop and how much money I have spent in there? I don't think I need too now do I.

I was just searching E-bay and I saw two types of SPx, What are these SPECTRUM cards???

Since there are only #25 Crosby Auto cards can I safely assume they are the Elite Cards of the SPx series??

Spectrum cards are just parallels of the regular issue cards. They are not considered true RC's as they are not part of the regular base set. However with the demand for the RC's this year these /25 parallels are going to be getting a huge premium. Just my opinion.

MD... essentially what you are doing is pack searching. It IS frowned upon by most collectors as this limits the opportunity of younger collectors to pull a GU card. As an older collector, we have vastly more money than a lot of younger kids do. If we pull a $5 Doug Weight jersey card, we're likely not going to care, but if that young kid does, he's going to be thrilled. As Oildrop says, if everyone does that, then the shops going to close because nobody's going to buy from the open boxes.

Now really it is at the shop owners discretion at what he allows to happen at his shop. If he is up to date on UD's practices, he'll know to shuffle packs, and to not allow pack searching.
