what do you guys do with all the extra cards you don't want? i've got some older stuff (you know the score, proset, UD, leaf deal...) and it's in boxes but i'm thinking of just scaling it down to a few teams and star players. are all the cards just going into the garbage? or can you think of something productive to do with 'em?

I still have all that crap. I use it now for getting auto's.

I gave all my old cards to my brother's nephew. I went through what I wanted and gave away the rest. Better to do that, and let him decide if they are garbage, than for me to toss them out.

I'm sure you guys are pretty tired of my complaints with the hobby, but I really think that UD has killed it. As someone on beckett said, it's basically three different designs that are recycled through 20 sets.

That said, looking at auto'd cards, the autos' don't look NEARLY as good as they do on an 8x10 in which the signature isn't cramped. Hopefully once I've got the pics framed I can show pics of my measly computer room :o

You would think. Do a few guys want to chip in on this set? It could turn out to be a bargain!

It stands to reason more people would have the funds to purchase one more of these cards seperatley rahter than the whole lot. It will take deep pockets or a group effort to buy them all at once.

I'd say you split the cost evenly. Everyone picks a card or cards that they want and then you relist the extras on eBay.

The eBay sales of the individual cards get's split amongst the participants.

But like you said, it becomes a problem when two people wabt the Ovechkin. It's probably best left alone.

If the sale were cheap enough and you had some disposable cash a person could buy the lot and then relist everything seperately. It would probably work out to a free Ovechkin to the winner.

With mixed feelings, I decided to sell my Phaneuf 04-05 SP Authentic RR card! Was seeing it get from $55-$80, and to be honest, it really is only an insert, so I decided to sell it (sorry Flames fans on here), and try to pick up his auto/jersey rookie from SPx, for the same price, I'd rather have that! Listed it for a BIN at $64.95, and it sold in 14 minutes! (could of got more maybe?) :confused: Anyways, money was sent already, so it's gone! :( At least it went to a Flames fan in Fort McMurray! :)

Thanks brew. I almost had two, but I lost sight of the second one and turtled. It hit the guy two seats to my right in the head and bounced farther down the row. The guy was fine as it was just a clearing attempt, but there was a kid who jumped faced first over the front row, which i was sitting in, and crashed face first into the boards to get the puck. He got up pumped though because he got the puck.

Yeah for sure. I wont collect it until the next time I visit Moscow which probably wont be until Sept. I'm half expecting someone to steal at the airport but guess we'll just have to wait and see. At least he's said I can have it for now. My friend is Team Manager of the womens team (Russia) so she's got good access to the players and always comes through for me.

Wouldn't be nice if they went back to like 5-10 products? A couple mid range ones like your Black Diamond, SPA SPx, Serires 1 and maybe 2. A couple lower end ones like MVP and Victory and then a couple high end ones, maybe Ultimate and whatever else.

MVP (aka Choice) - younger collectors set $2.75 pack
UD1 classic - always has quality rookies and cards. $3.75 pack
UD2 classic (gets extra players in there) $3.75 pack
Black Diamond - the classy step up $5 pack
Ice - $5 pack
a mid higher range one.. $10
then one or two high end ones. $25 up to the crazy like $50 a pack ones.

part of the problem is there's no competition.

if parkhurst and BAP and OPC still exist and are their own companies - suddenly UD has to put thought into the product they put out. they can't release 20 sets because there's other options out there and you have to be more focused.

i also hate how much the packs cost. sooo unreasonable.

i long for the days of Collectors Choice and early Black Diamond. that was the tops for me :)


can't forget 8+ cards per pack! and jumbo packs! that was great times.

Good luck with the Denis collection Shakes. Those are some sweet cards, I got the Turco gold auto like that for 6$ so hopefully you can get it dirty cheap like I did. Just a word of advice for you from someone who has been collecting a specific player for 6 years now, grab any old parallels you need when you see them of the guy otherwise you won't see them again if you do that you will have a much easier time

Like this card for example, this set is one of the most sought after parallel sets for player collectors. They are next to impossible to find from what I have heard (never had to get a Turco one thankfully :D )

Has anyone picked up boxes of the 2004 (2 years old, I know) Heads Up Sweater Edition? I've been seeing these at Meijer stores near me for like $40 a box. Picked up 2 so far (prolly all I'll pick up):

Turco - thanks for the links. i'm not going to buy *every* single one of his cards. parallels are only cool to me if they actually look nice - ie. the Ruby Black Diamond. i'm going to be selective, but still amasse a nice variety. the big thing for me will be getting some nice looking jersey cards. i've got an issue with cards that don't look nice - even if its a player i like, i won't buy 'em.

Gratzi: The triple is listed in the Beckett with the regular SOTT cards. It books for $150 - $300. It wasn't listed in January's Beckett but is listed in February's. There is a Hejduk, Iginla, Nash, St. Louis in December's Short Prints #/20 that sold for $165.00. I quickly skimmed the Short Print's all the way back to August when SPA was first priced (except September, couldn't find it). There were 2 of the Hejduk, Iginla, Nash, St. Louis cards priced in august one went for $183.00 and the other for $169.00. They never once priced a triple in the Short Prints section it was always Quad or higher.

It's a Thrashers team issue from Kovalchuk's rookie year. I wrote to them and they sent me a set of them, with him and Heatley being the only notable ones. Beckett doesn't have it in their catalog and there are none on the bay. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Eerily she left Crosby, Spezza, Staal and Phaneuf YG's on my computer desk. Those 4 could of been the difference for Canada in the Olympics. Bring on 2010!

It could be a little supicious, however my buddy who is a wholesaler gets boxes that have a 1000 packs in them. They are just a regular cardboard box and they come from the companies like that. But being on ebay you have to be a little leary...........

flesh - well he's not my favoritest player *ever*. i just like his cards and already had a few. i use him and columbus in every EA NHL game i've played (otherwise it's like cheating). i'd consider the avatar if i got to watch them play more often - but i don't, and wouldn't feel right using it :) i'd just be a liar.

oh, and i got the time right, i went with the "4 hours left" mark on ebay.. i just messed up thinking 3 ish and not 2ish. in retrospect, i knew it was 2, i just forgot. :( here's hoping another one pops up for cheap.

MAIL DAY! And an interesting story from last night's Canada/Russia game...

Thanks for rookiecardtrader for the deal. Card features an amaing 5 colors - pretty awesome considering the size of the swatch.

As for the story - well, my friend who was in Turin last night for the game between Canada and Russia told me today that he got into a fight with a Russian fan at the end of the game. My friend was sitting first row behind the Team Canada bench, and when the game ended, this drunk Russian fan ran down to the bench and started swearing to the Canadian players and coaches, bragging about the win. My friend said to this guy, "Why don't you show some class?" The Russian fan then punched my friend in the mouth, cutting his lip. But my friend, who is a Bertuzzi-sized guy, proceeded to land a few punches back on the guy. Before he knew it, the Italian army police jumped in and tackled the Russian fan down hard and apparently had to beat him down a bit to restrain him. My friend was escorted down the player's tunnel for his safey (didn't get in trouble since the police saw the Russian fan initiating the altercation). While he was left depressed like the rest of us Canadians after the game, at least he can come home with a nice story to tell for years to come :)
