I am into vinyl. Ive been buying a ton of Dunny series 3 figs. I try to pickup all of the super limited 8" Dunnys KR releases.

yeah, it is a bit out there. The only way I can explain it is, he's an artist first and toy designer 2nd. It's cheesey but I look at this particular figure like a piece of art. I do that with most the figures I buy.

That's an average price.

I was talking to the people at the Kidrobot forum and one guy said the Black Edition set should go for $300-$500. Now that you can't get them at retail, people are jacking up the prices. The Red Edition Gorillaz aren't as expensive but they will probably sell over retail.

I remember when someone first posted the Black Edition when they came out. I really wanted them but I thought $160 ($40 a piece) for the set was insane. I am an idiot :)

that's the perfect way to describe every urban vinyl maker. they're all primarily artists, the toys are just an extension of that.

alot of folks quibble about the price, but when you consider that all these toys are put out by like, one or two guys in their basement, that even at 500 units at $50 each they still barely covering manufacturing, and that they normally charge around $4000 per piece for their actual paintings, it starts to put the medium into perspective. designer vinyls definitely aren't something the average dude can collect as avidly as retail and specialty market figures; it really is more like art collecting

it's because many vinyl toys are artist-produced. a lot of people don't really get that many vinyl artists don't even have studios to work out of; they're sculpting, casting, and financing production through their homes and day-jobs. it takes tens of thousands of dollars for anybody to produce even a very limited run of toys, which makes the toys both rare and expensive. additionally, there are still relatively few distributors for vinyls, and even fewer outlets to sell the toys through, so even when the toys get "mass distribution," it's still not much better.

as far as the vcd's, like the star wars vinyls, are concerned, they're made specifically as collectibles. and they're still produced through smallish companies; it costs more for guys like sota or palisades(RIP) to put out less product ( using cheaper methods) than it does MCF, or neca, or even mezco to put out more. companies like sideshow, medicom, gentle giant, or vinyl distributors like DKE compensate for the higher costs by producing only high-end collectibles, instead of mass-market toys. consider that, even though these firms are "famous", they're probably still ten-or-twelve-person operations, financing through outside means, or else just getting by with a modest profit. just look at the four horsemen: yes, they currently have very lucrative deals worked out with mattel and neca, but it's still just four guys doing it with a little help, and they're just barely getting their own stuff out there in the form of exclusives.

anyway, the short answer is: because it's a lot of hard, expensive work. :D

3 right now, I have the Wizard exclusive Panda and Demon, and then I have the Kozik Anarchista Panda. I REALLY want the El Brujo Tequila figure, or the Spicy, hell the Black Bean even...but that is a battle for another day.

Hey guys. I was at Urban Outfitters today looking for the Blank one you can customize yourself, anyway.. I saw a display table of these that were opened, are all stores like that? I asked the guy if they had any for sale and he said that the ones in the glass table are for sale, so I thought I'd ask here if there were certain ones too look for.

That depends. The KR staff told me there were only 150 made.

The blacks are only 1 in 12. There are 2200 made. So that would mean 185 black. Unless the 150 red count as part of the 2200 total number. If that's the case, then there would be 171 blacks.
