Wow, what a 2nd and 3rd period Saturday night. I tend to think thta tomorrow night vs the Habs will be a bit different though. The next 3 games are against some of the NHL's elite teams right now, however Buffalo is on kind of a sour streak as of late.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This is a BIG win for the boys tonight!!!! If they can win one more out of Ottawa and Buffalo, this road trip will speak volumes about the state of this team right now!!!!

pheeewww close one at the end! but its an Eastern Canadian Road trip sweep! Luongo again the difference.

madchild1978
01-18-2007, 08:24 PM
Now the big question is....

Can they beat 2 Eastern Conference powerhouses back to back?

Even if they do lose tomorrow night, this has been an amazing stretch of hockey for this team!!!

madchild1978
01-18-2007, 08:26 PM
By the way guys, have a couple jerseys I am looking to unload....

Vintage blue Roberto Luongo, in great shape!!!! I would give it a 9.5 out of 10....$125

1993 Pavel Bure AUTHENTIC jersey, also in great shape...9 out of 10...would like to get $200 but open to offers.

Lemme know if anyone is interested.

I have every Gretz figure made my TMP, the SLU cup, Upper Deck Cup, Rookie/last game jersey, auto titan stick, euro jersey auto, and more... .

My wife calls it my shrine and obsession. My rink is a Gretz tribute. Btw, I always buy 2 and one is to open including variants.

The other Canucks were on the ice but only Luongo was playing. Where was the D tonite?

JOGADOGGZ
01-27-2007, 05:32 PM
There was no D...they have the All Star break Hangover. If they come out like that again Vs SJ its going to be a long nite.

TheBreeze8700
01-28-2007, 09:58 AM
i was worried the break might hurt us...but Kesler could hurt big time down the stretch, they sure kept his injury on the DL until all of a sudden hes gone for the whole darn year.

In other news, my trip to Ottawa/Montreal to watch the Canucks games was UNREAL, there are TONS or Canucks fans coast to coast, we should all be proud.

JOGADOGGZ

Very lucky to have him.:)

JOGADOGGZ
01-29-2007, 08:26 AM
Luongo will be key down the stretch, but the canucks can't always rely on him doing his, The way SJ played last night was something, I thought it was going to be another long night. I think it was a combination of the trap play and SJ being frustrated.

Maybe it has to do with the Oilers playing the night before.
Again tonight the Canuacks play the Flames ... the Flames played last night. It's a proved fact that teams playing 2 games in 2 nights lose 75% of the time. A schedule actually can make a team look good and then when the playoffs roll around ... some teams look bad because their advantage is gone.

They've definitely improved from the start of the season but still 2 months left this year, anything can happen between now and April so i"m crossing my fingers they won't tank it.

I guess considering what he did last year, this year is a total disappointment, maybe they should ship him to Montreal and bring Samsonov back, he had some magic playing with the Oilers last year.

Oiler_Fan
02-06-2007, 10:25 PM
Torres was only good during the playoffs last year and even then it wasn't every series. He's been a waste of time.

I'd love to have Samsonov back.

Why did Mac play Torres in the 3rd????? I thought he would have been on the bench for the rest of the night. Cookie did his job, he may not be getting the points this year but if he has more games like last night it will be worth keeping him. Nice to see him turn things upside down while staying out of the box.

Oiler_Fan
02-07-2007, 02:50 PM
Because MacT doesn't know how to coach, plain and simple.

He's made these kinds of decisions year in and year out. The only reason we made it to the cup last year was MacT rode on the coat tails of Roloson, Pronger, Peca etc. MacT is showing his worth once again this year with a good team that should be performing far better.

JOGADOGGZ
02-07-2007, 09:34 PM
The Oiler game took alot out of them and looks like they have nothing left to give tonite. Just a complete yawner of a game. Its not looking good so far being down 1-0 going into the 3rd.

What an amazing first 8 min. Now that is a team that is cup bound. I was really surprised that they came out of the period with only 1 goal. Was there 2 or 3 post. Turned into a sneaker in the 3rd. Not too bad of a schedule coming up Minnesota will be the test and we need to roll over Chicago and the Avalanche.

Was fun at the game last night! they have those silent auctions around the concourse, and I guess no one in the suite area bids, so I won a huge framed pic of Johnny Bower and Terry Sawchuk, signed by Bower. Cost me $175, but I have to think it is valued at more than that. Of course it has a certificate of authenticity from Gameday acutions. Now today I deal with an empty wallet and a killer hang over.

That's a great score and not a bad price for a big framed autographed pic. What size pic would you estimate it is?

madchild1978

Um, I would say the pic itself is 16 X 20, but it is nicely matted in a really nice wood frame, with a mini plaque and an area for the pushpins of the Maple Leafs logo and the Hockey Hall of Fame logo. I will post a pic tomorrow if I can. It really is a great piece!!!

Forgetting that Sabourin played well last night, Do you think the Canucks should pursue a legitimate backup for Luongo for the playoffs?
Other needs is center and right handed scoring winger for the PP. Linden is cutting the mustard.
I honestly believe that the Canucks are close to be a top contender this year. They just need to round out their roster and give it some depth.

I don't think a backup is too high on the priority list, they're going to live or die with Luongo regardless of what happens.

I think they are a top-6 forward and another defenseman away from being a legimate contender. If they could pick up another good forward, they could have 3 solid lines going.

For example, there have been quite a few Sturm rumors, which could give them a forward group of:
Pyatt- Sedin - Sedin
Cooke - Morrison - Linden
Sturm - Green - Naslund
Burrows - Chouinard - Cowan

I think Naslund needs a guy to get him going, he's still getting some points playing with scrubs but a guy like Sturm on his wing, another quick skilled player, might give him a few more options out there.

On defense, Krajicek is playing too small, he's bigger than many other defenders, but plays too soft and doesn't bring enough offense to make up for it. Rory Fitzpatrick is, well, Rory. He's a decent enough 6th d-man, but they need some depth. If Krajicek and Rory were playing 15 minutes a game if there are injuries up the depth chart, the Canucks are toast. I'm not too sure what's available on defense, but one more veteran can never hurt.

You do have a point, Sturm would be a pretty good fit for them. I remember back even before the season started everybody counted the Canucks out. Its nice to see they have proven everybody wrong so far. Everybody talks about how Calgary is this and that.....the Flamers can't even win on the freaking road!, The canucks have the most balanced record in there Division and they have been more consistent than Minny and Calgary since Christmas. March is a big and tough month if they can have a huge March then this team will do well come playoff time.

He's learning to become more of a well rounded player, he was so used to Crawford's Run and Gun and not back checking that's why he put up the numbers like he did before. And also he misses Bertuzzi.

02-21-2007, 02:44 PM
I think we're seeing that Naslund isn't a superstar, he's a great player who needs another great player around him to make him better. The partnership with Bertuzzi worked so well because Bert made a lot of space for him because of his size and strength. Nazzy isn't the kind of guy that can really elevate those around him. I don't think that's a knock on him, he's just not that kind of player. He's still a very talented guy, but he won't be a 40+ goal, 90+ point scorer unless he's paired with someone.

madchild1978
02-21-2007, 02:45 PM
Also, the "he misses Bertuzzi" excuse is getting old. A star player shouldnt rely on another player to produce.

02-21-2007, 03:29 PM
I think Sturm is out of the question now, TSN.ca is reporting that the Bruins are close to resigning him instead of trading him, which brings up guys like Guerin. Guerin and Naslund? Not to bad, although a pure rental. I think this offseason the Canucks should go all out to sign Forsberg. Him and Naslund for 1 final year, let Salo walk and use the money to get Forsberg, just for 1 year

madchild1978

With all the rumors going around, I think that is all they are (rumors). I can see anyone dropping too much as the player for player is not equal for the buyers right now. I don't see anyone that is that desperate right now that is a team that must have that extra centre or defenceman just to make it into the playoffs.Prices are way too high right now for rentals maybe someone will lift a no trade clause or do a swap of non free agents? Maybe Linden will find some 1994 juice in the kicker?:D

Nonis has already said that he's not prepared to sacrifice the picks they have stockpiled this season or any prospects for short-term help, all of the trades that Burke and Nonis have made over the past few seasons to try and get help at the deadline have really gutted the organization of picks and prospects.

That being said, it's entirely possible they could get a half-decent rental player at the deadline for a 2nd round pick and that to me would be a worthwhile investment. Ah well, should be an interesting deadline. We'll see if any of the other Western Conference playoff contenders make some big moves that force other teams to make make moves.

madchild1978
02-22-2007, 07:05 PM
I think Cory Schneider is an easy asset to move. We simply dont need him here. Luongo is here for 3 yrs?!?!?! and we also have Julian Ellis waiting in the wings, who is still very young! The Canucks need a piece or two still, and they have the assets to get them. Wait til deadline day, prices will drop, but so far Nonis has watched other teams get better while he hasnt.

Luongo will probably steal a series or two from them (this is all speculation, of course, since Luongo has never played in a playoff game), but I think they still need one or two key guys to go deep, just like the Oilers needed guys like Peca, Pronger, & Roloson last year.

As much as the Martain the G man is a work horse I don't think it's a high enough step for Vancouver to put him back in a uniform. He's got the Playoff and Cup experience, I guess if we could pick him up for the same price Carter went for then it would work. Just hope we don't pull in a couple a loafs of bread out of the freezer like we did last year and they do nothing for us. Guerin is the one to shoot for but the price is too high as I would assume there is a strong interest for him and there won't be a right price.

Smolinski and Cullimore from the Hawks for Morrision and a late round draft pick. It's one of the few moves that will suit the Canucks needs as well as fit within the salary cap.

Otherwise Smolinski for a draft pick and future considerations and keep the Nucks intact. I'd rather see the Nucks pick up another solid D-man within their budget and go with the offense we have.

Personally, I'd like to see the Nucks pickup C Jason Blake from the Islanders. I think he'll bring the same energy to the team that we'll miss of Ryan Kesler.

Teams are giving way too much for impact vets.....I heard Ferraro on team1040 this morning that Atlanta needs to make the playoffs now, so their GM Don Waddell had to make some sort of move. On top of all that They are slowly tanking it. they have lost 8 of 10 games.

I agree, they are giving up too much, but honestly I would rather see Nonis just do a few depth moves.....getting Rivet would have been nice, but he got beat to the punch. I wouldnt mind landing Sopel if we can get him cheap out of LA....he would look good as the #5 d-man. Rumours that they are looking at Gelinas too, but in my eyes he is only worth a mid round pick now.

Ya Gelinas would be a solid pickup, he would be CHEAP too. Well he better be. I wouldnt mind Kapanen or Cajanek off waivers?

THANK GOD Choiunard is on waivers

Personally I'd like to see either Sopel or Allen as a #5 D. Gelinas would be great.

Hmmmm. I'm wondering what it might take to get Bertuzzi back here (only as a rental, of course). There isn't a heck of a lot left in his salary for the Canucks to pick up, and since he's sort of damaged goods due to return any day now .......

The other choice would be Guerin, but I can't picture him donning the Orca sweater without the Canucks paying bigtime.

Sopel & Smolinski.

Now maybe one or two more guys for good measure at a very cheap rate.

I like the trade, Smolinski for a 2nd rounder, and Sopel for a 2nd and 4th rounders. it gives the 3rd line of Naslund and Bulis depth now. and Sopel gives them the 4th D they need because Rory and Lukas aren't going to cut it.

Glad to see Chouinard the Pylon go, nice guy but worst signing this year for the Nucks.

I think there done for trades there almost maxed out of cap room.

BERT WOULD BE A BIG MISTAKE AND WOULD SINK THE TEAM BACK INTO THE STONE AGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad to see Sopel back. I think he will have a quick impact and will be more than willing to play for this team.

Thats all the Nucks will do. I knew we'd get Smolinski (as per my previous post) but I really didn't see the Sopel thing coming. Kinda dissapointed about that to tell the truth.

I like the trade at least AV can put Sopes out there in key situations rather than Kraijeck or Fitz, those guys are tools out there.

GREAT pickups by Nonis. He added some depth and maybe even a little scoring punch to the mix with Smolinski, and didnt give up anything of substance. Sopel is a great pickup for a #5 d-man. He is better than Krajicek and Fitzpatrick hands down, and Smolinski is a nice addition down the middle, and they were saying on the radio that Kesler will be available for the playoffs.....DEPTH DOWN THE MIDDLE!!!

The other nice thing about Sopel is that he can play point on the PP instead of Mitchell. So you have:

Salo - Ohlund
Sopel - Bieksa

So sweet. Another thing I heard and thought was interesting, but more than likely wont happen...

Bulis, Corey Schnieder and 2nd rnd pick (from LA) to florida for Bryan Allen.

I would do that in a heartbeat, imagine the D with Ohlund, Salo, Bieksa, Sopel, Allen and Mitchell, with Luongo behind them?!?!?!

Glad they didn't trade Schneider. Every franchise needs a goalie of the future. Schneider will be gaining some skill over the next few years, and he'll probably be ready by the time Luongo's contract is up and he's asking for big $$$. Hopefully by then the 'Nucks'll have won a cup or two.

They have 3 seasons to find another goalie, and considering TONS of teams need goaltending help sooner than that, Schneider was a valuable asset. Nonis did just fine though!

Purely Mental, i guess in their heads it was an easy 2 pts because 1. they didn't have Guerin and 2. no Tkachuk.

I noticed games vs LA,Chicago,St Louis, they never show up for. it sucks because there just throwing away points.

I honestly think the guys are a bit tired. They have been playing great hockey since Christmas and their record shows it.......then with the flu bug hitting. It was just a blip in the schedule...nothing to worry about at all.

I miss Hughson doing the play-by-plays. I remember the good old days of listening to Hughson call 'em while I listened on my walkman with one ear bud at my evening UBC classes. I know he likes the Canucks, but his play-by-plays were very professional in that I never heard him reveal his bias.....unlike the guy here in Edmonton.
