Krajiceks first passes have been BRUTAL lately.....weak and he cant clear the zone. I dont trust him at all. I know Rory isnt exactly an all-star (lol) but I have way more faith in his play than Krapcek.

The Canucks re-signed Salo.
Wow, 4 years. Hopefully he can stay injury-free. Any news on how much he'll earn? I hope he doesn't take a chunk out of our cap.
madchild1978
03-29-2007, 04:52 PM
Another thing...I know Salo is really good and all......when he is in the line-up. The last couple years he seems to always be hurt.......which annoys the hell out of me considering how much of a key he is to this team. I hope they didnt pay a bunch for him, since he is injury-prone.

Team policy, terms are never disclosed. Its pretty standard, although I think the Canes release info now; apparently a few years ago they looked around the room and said "why the hell are we still witholding the terms?" And from then on they just started telling the press. I wish more teams would do it that way.

You know what sucks about Avs fans? You've never had to suffer. Nords fans suffered for years with mediocre seasons, piling up draft picks, until they were finally a talented team; at which point they promptly packed-up and moved. So you Colorado folks enjoyed only the salad days, and not the pain of those years before. Maybe now its time you guys started to earn a little bit of your fandom. If you can stick with the team in tough times, then you're a real fan.

How far does anyone think the Canucks will go into the post?

The Canucks are still a player or 2 away from being a Stanley Cup Champion. They still need that Key Difference maker forward that will lead them. Luongo can't stop all the pucks, Everyone is hoping Naslund will do it but sorry to say he's not that type of Leader. But who knows, anything can happen in the playoffs..

Yup your right.. Who knows maybe Nazzie's switch will come on. I just don't see it at this point. Too bad that all his tallent disapeared in a mental tail spin. If it had been due to injuries that is one thing but when a guy losses his mojo there is not much you can do except wait and hope he finds it while he is still on your team.

Do they need a "superstar" forward though? I don't think anyone can say with 100% certainty that the "key difference making forward" is a necessity. We've only had one Stanley Cup under the cap system, not enough to determine what the correct "formula for success" is. It may turn out that the Vancouver/New Jersey system of high-paid goalie and point-a-game top forwards is what gets the job done.
The Sedins can provide the PAG, so its just a matter of adding more scoring depth. If we can get another 30 goal man (Naslund?) and another couple 20 goal men besides just Pyatt (Morrison? Grabner? Raymond???) then we'll be in good shape.
I think next year's team will be phenomenal once we get a touch more scoring from our forwards.

Yes, anything can happen in the playoffs. If Luongo is all that he's touted to be, and if the reports are correct and he wants to be the best in the league, a high calibre goalie can take a mediocre team very, very deep into the playoffs (think Hasek & the Sabres in 99). That's the kind of goaltending I'm hoping for. And if the Canucks can find a bit of a groove, we'll be set.
We may not have Sakic, Forsberg, Roy, etc like the Avs did in 96, but we're probably better than the Oilers were last year.

If the Canucks had Cap room I wonder how Ryan Smyth would fit with the Twins? Smyth is that type of player that would fit so well with the twins because he has the hands and the knack for the net and getting his feet dirty for goals in front of the net.

Smyth doesn't play the right style to fit with the Sedins. Besides why waste 5 million to complete a line that you can complete with 1 million? The focus needs to be on the Naslund line. Smolinski is awesome and Nazzy's making him look bad. Next season I'd like to see Naslund, Bulis and Krajiek gone. Pick up Marleau from San Jose, Kesler will be healthy and maybe pick up a goal scorer like Jason Blake (UFA 07 - 1.6m+), Cammalleri (RFA 07 - 1.7m+) or if there is salary room just invest in a great all around player like Scott Gomez (UFA 07 - 5m+) and sign him for like 4 or 5 years.
Cammalleri or Blake would play awesome with the twins. Gomez is an amazing setup man and could play with pretty much anyone.
Don't get me wrong... Smyth is an assett anywhere he goes. :D

And that is what sucks about nucks fans, or most canadian hockey fans. All they can talk about is we were handed a team! For the most part we were, but if we also earned that. Colorado was always one of the largiest if not the largiest hockey audience before we had a team! (in markets with no team) We have two college teams with big hockey histories! Only reason why our first NHL team failed is because of really piss poor ownership! I do not dispute we were handed a pretty good team and trust me I know that a lot of these idiot fan boys that took up space on the lower bowl are about to get rid of their tickets. The Flames may be leading but I wouldn't say they are the agressors. The hits are pretty even and both teams have had their share of big collisions.

I hope that they find a way to play a 60 minute game heading into the playoffs. These 10-15 minute stretches of brutal hockey are going to kill them. Can you imagine collapsing for 15 minutes against San Jose? Thornton and Marleau might put up enough goals that they can't come back no matter how hard they play for the rest of the game.

Kind of hope they clinch Thursday so Booby Lou can have a well deserved night off before the playoffs. That comment actually bothers me a bit. You DO NOT let in a goal to fire up the team....EVER. I mean get in a fight, wack a guy in the shins, yell at yer defense, but NEVER let a goal in purposely to "fire up" the team. I think thats absolute BS and Luongo should really give his head a shake before he says stuff sometimes.

He wasn't serious though, he was just kidding. The actual quote was:
"I got to give myself a lot of credit on the second goal, I just wanted to do something to get the boys going so I think it worked out well and we were strong after that," Luongo joked. "I had to do something; it was either that or get into a fight, so I figured I'd let one in from the corner."
I heard it on the Team 1040 postgame show and he was laughing as he said it. He would never intentionally let in a goal, he was just making a joke about how weak the goal was. I thought it was great because he's obviously not totally wound up right now, if he's calm enough to joke about a bad mistake that's a good thing. The last thing they need is for Luongo to be a stress case right now.

I think the "Alain Vigneault Comedy Hour" is rubbing off on him. :) Vigneault seems to have a wise crack all the time, I think the "I'm not worried, Tamby says Dave is a [crappy] coach" line is my favorite. He's almost as quotable as Brian Burke.

It's good to see Iginla has some sportsmanship in him, hitting Mitchell when he's down. I'd give the verdict to Willie anyways.
To be fair, Willie did pound him when his jersey was caught over his head; a pretty defenseless position. I was choked at the time that Iginla would punch Willie while he was down, but when I thought about it after I guess I could see why Iggy might do it. It doesn't excuse either of them.

The Game shouldn't of gone to O.T. but at least it keeps us from playing the Sharks but even if we played the Sharks the Canucks are 3-1 against them all year so it really doesn't matter, just prepare for a snoozer of a series with the Stars. Luongo should get a rest tommorow against Phoenix because the game means nothing now.

I disagree with the whole " Turco isnt a good playoff goalie " argument.
People act like he's been around forever and has had numerous chances to prove himself.
He's only been in the playoffs 3 times. He won his first ever series vs Edmonton, then lost a tight battle to Giguere and the Ducks in 03.
Didnt do so hot in 04 vs Colorado. The team in front of him stunk too.
Ditto for last year. Not much to go off of if you ask me. I think that argument is blown outta preportion. Though if he doesnt step it up this post-season, I think a change at the helm may be in order. Not that its my preference.

The fact of the matter is that Turco has never won a playoff series. Sure, he's only had three chances, but he hasn't delivered anything in either of them.
Until he wins a series he'll be known as the playoff flop.

Yeah, you're right. My mistake.
I just think the reason many consider Turco a playoff choke is because his play is noticeably different in the playoffs. I'd put him in the same league as Joe Thornton, Todd Bertuzzi, etc.

Turco has alot to prove I hope its not this year and his playoff drought continues.
Fact is the last time the Nucks went to the finals and the last time these 2 teams met in the playoffs the Canucks took them out in the 2nd round 4-1. So hopefully that trend continues this year.

and just to let u know tjcurrie madano is not the best american born player to play in the NHL
Just to let you know, he is. Even before he broke the goal scoring record and without the points record ( yet ) .
Here's my list
Modano
Chelios
Lafontaine
Mullen
Roenick
Housley
Leetch
Tkachuk
Broten
LeClair
Goalies
Brimsek
Vanbiesbrouk
Richter
Not a one of those guys is better than Mo. He'll be top 20 scoring when he's done. Add that to his all-round game and he's atleast in the top 20 all-time rankings, not just points, but overall.
But this is not a Mike Modano thread.
So bring on the playoffs !
I gotta admit Im a little nervous. But I always am. Im confident in my boys though. I think theyre pretty deep and Modano's havin fun and flyin, Morrow-Ribiero are flyin, everyone's pitchin in. Modano said yesterday this team is feeling more and more like the Cup winning team. Guess we'll find out. If Turco does what he can do, then they have a really good shot. Cant wait for Wednesday.

I hate to stereoype, but you guys have a lot of European forwards and they just aren't showing up when needed. Back in those years when you went to the Cup, you had a lot of grit, guys like Jamie Langenbrunner, Grant Marshall, Mike Keane, Kirk Muller.. That element seems to be missing from this team. I'm a little surprised at Brendan Morrow. I think he's a very good player, but he's done nothing noteworthy in the series thus far.

JOGGADOGGZ and Poeschek,
Excellent points, I have to agree - unfortunately-haha.:p
We definitely need more grit. Finesse is not going to get anyone anywhere in the playoffs. I definitley think Turco has done enough to silence the critics!! Unfortunately the rest of the team has let him down - Very similar to last season.
I think Mitchell is trying to show us what we missed out on by not resigning him.
Hopefully we can try to get back in it tomorrow, but I can't see the Nucks folding a 3-1 series lead.

Luongo has been outstanding. He is the team. It amazing to see how one player can have such an impact on a game. We haven't has this type of player impact since Bure. Canucks have been lucky that they have been spreading the points round which makes it tough for the other team to know who to put preasure on. Pyatt has been a gift and now I can see why the Sabers fans were pi$$ed when they let him go. Glad to see Linden have another great game. Funny how all the talk was about Modano being a better player but Linden has out player him in this series. Na,Na...Na,Na,Na,Na...Hey,Hey.. Gooodbye.

Modano was still a far better player than Linden and his stats show but Linden has provided in different areas that Modano doesn't have. Modano can still skate and all but he's more Flash and dash now with no finish.

I agree! nail biter til the goal... it could have easily gone either way... Oh man and my heart sunk when Mo missed that pass and the puck almost went into the empty net... That would sum up Dallas' breaks right there if it went in.

that was an exciting game, maybe not the first but from the second period on, great chances to score, the reason why it's so low scoring is you have 2 of the best goalies in the league duking it out, and some of the saves have been incredible.

Sorry, after watching the matchups from the east, this series is like watching grass grow. Both teams have been fighting the puck all series long. Great goaltending to be sure, but the offense has been completely anemic. Regardless of how good a goaltender is, you can beat them if you take advantage of your chances. Neither team is doing that right now.

We need to get more from the Sedins and Naslund. They have been controlling the puck well, but they aren't getting the puck into the dangerous areas in front of the net. I find it a little disturbing that Jannik Hansen has been one of their most dangerous offensive threats. He looks like a decent prospect, but he's a farm callup. The established vets need to bring more.
Bieksa has also been disappointing, his decision making has been pretty spotty, especially last night. His turnover in OT led directly to the chance going the other way and the subsequent penalty.
JOGADOGGZ
04-20-2007, 11:16 AM
The Mental break downs will kill them, The Sedins/Naslund line need to get in your face hockey more and get some dirty goals...the cycling against the Stars isn't working they need to play more like the Linden line.
But that's back to back shut out losses at home, they have to close it out tommorow night, seems like Turco plays better on the road because less pressure.

Wow, that was pathetic. The scoring chances tonight must have been 12-2 for Dallas. Credit to the Stars, totally outworking the Canucks these past few games. Modano and their better players have stepped up their game, but the Sedins and Naslund have been invisible.

Man as much as I want the Stars to take it all the way, they too have a history of let downs... I can't wait til Monday is over so I can breathe again. As a Dallas fan I hope the Stars have as much step as they had up until now (and especially tonight) and I also hope that Canucks don't settle down. I hope that they're just as fired up. Cuz they were just forcing crap without their head on straight. If the Nucks settle down like game 1, the Sedins and Nazzy can be deadly... I also think Mo answered alot of critics. Hopefully he has as much drive Monday too! Man, one of the best series in a long time and especially so far this year.

You should be able to breathe after tonite! Its over as far as I know and I will guarantee it'll be over for the Canucks Monday! I knew if the Canucks didn't win tonite it would be 200% over and it will be Monday and you can blame the Scoring on this one. I'm not counting out Bobby Lou. He's still very much on his game. The goal the other nite was off a lucky bounce... Hell and imagine if that empty netter was just an inch or 2 to the right. Tonite was a bad game for the nucks. If they can muster the energy they had in game 1 or 5 it can go either way. I don't know how I feel about it. Those were some of the best games I've seen in a long time, but I think I prefer the breathing room of tonite.

The Canucks are missing Cooke's peskiness. They never once hit Turco. Cowan has got to get in there and run him hard. No one is crashing the net. Naslund is hustling but by doing so, he's making quite a few mistakes. Morrison is invisible. When they enter the attack zone, they have no idea what to do next with at least 3 Stars and Turco in front of them. They don't want Turco to play the puck but the Stars are still beating them to the dumps in the corner. They should watch the Mighty Ducks movie and try the 'Flying V'. Enter the zone, drop pass it to a d or winger while 2-3 crash the net and clear a shot path and look for a rebound.
With Linden playing well, I know he'll take us to round 2.

What I DON'T wanna see is any Canuck player taking a STUPID penalty when the team has a power play. It's becoming an afterthought for me that once they're on the power play, it's time for some four on four hockey.

Emerging young d-men

Lol at all the gushing love for the nucks. Even if we lose tonight, the team should still hold their heads up high. In September the media implied it was a rebuilding year. Not only did we make the playoffs, we won the division!
With the exception of game six the team played with their hearts on their sleeves - since Christmas!
Sheesh if Edmonton fans can support the team, the least we can do is support them ourselves.
