I wonder what the deal is with Salo's injury.

What does everyone think of NHL 08 for EA...I love the game and seeing the Canucks Jersey's in the game has got me to actually like the new Uni's now.

I also like the fact that there's going to be a Trevor Linden Retro repaint in the Old winged skate version that would be a great add to my Canucks/Linden collection.

Cant wait for the Linden repaint!!!!!!

NHL 08 is THE BEST NHL game to date in my opinion! Graphics are great, player animations are great, gameplay is great....havent found anything really wrong with the game yet.

Word on Salo is he is "week to week" and Vignault called him out today. He said "the injury happened cause Sami was playing very non-chalant and when he went in the corner to get the puck, Dave, Steve and myself were all looking at eachother wondering what Sami was doing".

Hey Joe,

When yer a season ticket holder and want to get the discount at Authentix, what do you show them to get the discount? A friend of mine that has season tickets is shooting me some tickets to see the Nucks/Oilers on Thursday, and I wanna do some shopping.

I think so, you have to produce the discount card at the time of purchase.

Only problem i've found is after a game or 2 in dynasty mode the the view/screen changes from where the puck is. sometimes the play is going up ice, your player is down at your end and you loose sight of the play and the puck. this only happens in dynasty mode too after you play like 2-3 games its wierd.

Vancouver: The ugliest jerseys in the NHL will have the ugliest record to match.

It's going to be a tough year for 'nucks fans. What the hell were they thinking? Decent regular jerseys and THE BEST 3rd jerseys in the league to this? I'd be mad as h e double hockey sticks.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Look at your own team bro. The Canucks will be in the playoff hunt. How you can say they are the worst team is ridiculous. They havent made many changes from last year and they won the Northwest division, and I believe eliminated the Stars from the playoffs.

Here's a feel good story from Willie Mitchell I read on:

Vancouver Turns Willie’s World Upside Down

Ian MacIntyre tells a story of a BC home-grown boy playing for his dream hockey team, but forgot the vanity and attention that comes hand-in-hand.

Once upon a time, MacIntyre said, “The defenceman from Port McNeill had just completed his first season for the Vancouver Canucks when he and his wife, Megan, decided to decompress last spring by visiting Mitchell's hometown on northern Vancouver Island.”

“The workers used their two-way radios to tell each other that a king was boarding the Queen of Cowichan and by the time Willie Mitchell parked his truck on the car deck, many passengers seemed to think royalty was among them.”

MacIntyre notes the effect hockey players have in a hockey-crazed city.

“It has been said often that playing in Vancouver is like playing in a fishbowl because Canucks players are always under scrutiny and on display, recognized constantly at restaurants, coffee bars, dry cleaners, parks, grocery stores, department stores, Range Rover stores and everywhere BC Ferries sails.”

Thought with plenty of attention, MacIntyre notices a big difference between Mitchell and the rest of the team.

“Rare is the time when Mitchell outright refuses to sign. More times than not, he'll even spend a minute or two amiably discussing last night's game or the penalty kill or his play when a fan approaches him” MacIntyre said.

“I don't mind talking about it. I'm proud of what I do. I'm very lucky what I do,” says Mitchell. “I think it's a cool gig. I know, to be honest, I'm Willie Mitchell-The-Hockey-Player. One day that's going to end, and I'll just be Willie Mitchell.”

There is one childhood story that Mitchell shared with MacIntyre:

Mitchell said, “I remember being at the Pacific Coliseum, waiting outside for autographs, eight or 10 years old. Some guys came out and just got in their cars and left, and other guys came out and took the time to sign my stuff. I got my autographs and I was happy.”

"I always want to be that guy [who makes people happy]. I remember how it felt when the guys walked past me without stopping. I don't want to be that person."

MacIntyre finishes the story by bringing us back to the present time as Mitchell describes his love for being a Vancouver Canuck.

"I know this sounds cheesy, but I had shivers doing the jersey unveiling [in August at GM Place]. I was one of five guys out there. I was a kid, watching Tiger Williams, Tony Tanti, Harold Snepsts, Dave Babych and -- I hate to say it -- [current teammate] Trevor Linden. Sorry, Trevor. I remember watching all those guys, being down at the glass looking at them on the ice. And now that's me.”

"There's such a following, so many fans. On some days that can be tough, but most days it's fine. It's how you embrace it and whether you do that or run from it."

The Canucks are sucking balls again 2007.......I go to these games and pay alot of money but when I don't get entertained like this year why bother paying when I can sit at home and watch it on TV for free.

I look at the Canucks like the Miami Dolphins, there are a few to none up and coming draft picks to look forward too. Honestly I'd rather be in Edmonton's situation where you have all these young guns like Gagner and Cogliano,Nilsson to look forward too. We have no assets to trade. I think the goalie graveyard still exists here.

How can you say we don't have any prospects? Schneider? Bourdon? Raymond?

vicnsand
11-02-2007, 05:05 PM
While the first two prospects you mentioned are promising, how will they help the team address its current need in scoring?

And how come when people get critical about their team, other people come in and talk about jumping off the bandwagon?

TSN and Eklund reports that B.Richards on his way here and Between Dallas,Columbus and Montreal Vancouver seems to be the front runners.....I personally don't see why Vancouver would pick this guy up with his contract. who would he play with? They'd have to get rid of Morrision,Naslund. If this is the case I don't know how it would work.

02-24-2008, 12:48 PM
What the hell do we need a playmaking center for? We've already got one of the best in the league. That's be like trading for Lundqvist so he could backup Luongo. We need a sniping winger ala Brian Gionta (which was the other rumour floating around).

JOGADOGGZ
02-24-2008, 01:48 PM
I don't think Nonis will do anything big this deadline. If he does it will be for more depth up front or back on D since Kraijcek is gone. But all these rumours for Sundin,Hossa and Richards coming here are just rumours as always.

vicnsand
02-24-2008, 04:00 PM
If there is any truth to the Richards rumour then Nonis probably has Cory Schneider in the mix as Tampa needs goaltending.

It's hard to figure out what he'll do. The team is a player or two away from the next level, but a few weeks ago he mentioned on HNIC that he wouldn't give up good young prospects to fill holes.

Nonis did mention on HNIC last week he wouldn't give up his prospects for a rental, so this could be the trade that Nonis does because Richards is a player under contract and he's still in his prime. What I want to know is what he'll do with that big chunk of Salary that will eat up his cap space for the upcoming years. The Sedins are due for a renewal after next season and are going to command probably 4-5 million each, he has to worry about Elder as well when his rookie contract ends. I heard Edmonton is in the running for him too but would he really want to go to a rebuilding team. I think if Vancouver can pick up a Richards they would have the 2 scoring lines they'll need for the post season and the years to come.

I bet its Schneider,Bourdon and Grabner....Tampa needs Goaltending and Defense and Schneider and Bourdon are definitely blue chip prospects. We'll have to wait and see, Dallas and Columbus has probably some pretty inticing offers as well.

I am actually pleased that Nonis didn't go crazy and sell everything he had at the deadline for a chance at a cup.

I think he re-tools his team in the summer, giving Mo and Nazzy current-value contracts, and uses the cap space to pursue some more scoring.

Nice to see a COILERS fan piping up in here while their team loses too.

Misery loves company.

Also funny that it's a Oil fan to that's first to post how classy a guy like Linden is and it's a shame to see him retire. If the team was aware in advance, which it did seem like by the way they play'd T-Lins tonite and stayed on the ice to watch him do his thing that the right thing to do was give him the "C" on his jersey for the night.

Anyways. A classy NHL exit for the real Captain Canuck.

**I've always wondered why Naslund was named captain in Vancouver.

**I've always wondered why Naslund was named captain in Vancouver.

He was the best candidate once Messier left, and Linden was not with the Canucks. Aside from the last 2 seasons, I thought he wore that C quite well.

On another note, it's a shame our teams didn't make the playoffs. I was looking forward to the Oilers in the playoffs, I think they have a really exciting team that's going to be really fun to watch next year. And well, I always have to cheer for my hometown team.

That might -- just might -- turn out good. If the Canucks had either made the playoffs or racked up the goals in the last game, then Nonis would probably thinking that there's nothing wrong with the team and he'd carry on another year with signing even more defensemen. Now maybe Nonis will actually add some offense to the team in the offseason.

Have no idea who we'll beat in the First Round, at least we can say that unlike the Avs they'll be pulling out the golf clubs this year. :p

Nucks fans as usual were talking mad game last year when the AVS did not got to the playoffs and this was said to me, for reference it is on page 29.

Right back at ya!
