:) Thought I'd start a Canucks thread since I see The Avs,Oilers, Flames etc etc.....I just noticed on alot of forums out there that people have been hitting the panic button and are already counting this team out for some reason. Yes we did loose alot of offense and some of the players we got are unproven but lets just wait it out and see how the season unfolds.

boooooooooooooooooooo :p
I can see Vancouver's fortunes riding with Luongo this season... much like Calgary, they'll get as far as their goaltending will take them.
Once again the NW will be the most competitve in the NHL.

We'll see, i remember last year when everyone was ragging on edmonton in the first half of the year and after that the finally gelled and look where it took them. The Flames will be a top once again prolly with Minnesota and the rest will be competing for prolly 8-5 spots in the conf. man its so tough predicting in the new NHL there aren't anymore dynasty's or givens now.

I'm fine with low expectations. People picked last years team to be a Cup contender, look how that turned out. It's a lot nicer when people aren't gunning for you all the time.

i don't know what to think about this season. hell, i'm not even sure who's on the team anymore.:o i'm just hoping they can make the playoffs, but i won't be holding my breath on that one.
on another note, i hope this thread works better than the one last year. it was kinda hit or miss.

I'll try to keep this thread alive this year, i'm curious to see what people think about them on the spawn boards.
I'd like to see them do better than last year because i have season tickets.

I think they'll have trouble scoring this year, but hopefully the defense will be tough. I can't believe callers were blasting Luongo the other night. They won the game.
I'll be at the games on Friday and Saturday, and then the home opener.
JOGADOGGZ
09-26-2006, 07:44 PM
yah i think scoring will be down this year, as much as Vigneault says it'll be a Run and Gun, he's full of it, he'll start trapping teams after a lead.
Anyone here go to the UBC Auto Session last Sat.?? they had Luongo,Bourdon and othe guys there signing stuff.

Some of my observations:
- Bourdon looked great at times, and scared at others. He's not used to being the guy on the receiving end of hits it seems
- Cooke played terrible, especially with the puck. Dude, Bulis is not going to convert a pass that hits him in the chest.
- Sedin Sedin Naslund sounds good, but they need someone on that line who will go to the net hard
- Pyatt looks slow and lumbering. It might just be his "style", but he looks terrible out there
- Bieksa played well, Krajicek pinced too much but he played fairly well too
- Kesler was a non-factor. He needs to make his presence felt more.
Oh, and Luongo was outstanding.
Its only the pres-season. If they separate the Naslund/Sedin connection to spread out the scoring I think it will help.
Tokyo Breakfast
09-27-2006, 02:32 AM
They will have trouble scoring. Definitely.
Kesler will struggle this year, Cooke probably will too.
I hope they make the playoffs, but they may not make it this year.

09-27-2006, 03:00 AM
It's only pre-season who cares if they win or lose.
As for making the playoffs ... anything can happen. I can see teams going from first place to not making the playoffs the next year very easily ... thanks to the salary cap. Good job NHL giving all teams a shot especially the small market Canadian teams ... now just bring by the Jets.
JOGADOGGZ
09-27-2006, 12:52 PM
Yah everyone's talking playoffs and stuff and how there going to struggle, teams that made the playoffs in the west last year didn't come out gunning at the gates like the oilers, ducks, sharks..those team were struggling in the first 20-25 games of last year then finally found there game and hit there stride in the 2nd half. I'll start judging this team come Jan. For now i'll try to be patient and just watch them try to find chemistry and gel as a team.

i think last year was a little different due to the players getting used to the rule changes, the way the refs were calling the games and the fact that most players hadn't played in over a year. i don't see as many teams struggling out of the gate this year and then picking it up like that.

Canucks blow. They have NO scoring at all. Nonis has done NOTHING to address this.
If I was Nonis, I wouldn't have matched the Flyers offer ($1.9 million) for Kesler. He's simply NOT worth that kind of money, when he only scored 10 goals last year. I don't see Kesler being any better this season.

Over the years its been Calgary by far, but the last few years, the Canucks have been closing the gap. I think the time has passed on them this year as the Oil/Flame rivalry is going back old school me thinks.

Wow, I'm surprised that we cut Reid. While he didn't have many points during the pre-season he did create a lot of chances.
He'll play some games for us this season though, hopefully he can make his mark and stick it with the big club.
JOGADOGGZ
09-29-2006, 04:17 PM
Apparently what they say on team 1040 and Dan Russell's show about Reid is he has alot of flash but no finish and he gets knocked off the puck alot because of his size. But honestly If I were Reid i'd be frustrated because how many years will it take to crack the team without having all these set backs. I can see him being called up though if they need him.

hey there fellow Vancouver Canucks fans. its really cool to see a Canucks thread for 06-07 NHL season. by the way my name is Simon and nice to meet you all you Canucks fans in Vancouver and other parts of B.C. and other places. As a die hard Canucks fan I hope they do good this season and rise again to the top in the Western Conference. I have been a Canucks fan since I was a child and it only seems like yesterday the Canucks were in the 1994 Stanley Cup finals taking on the Rangers. I still remember game 7 of the 1994 Cup finals like it happened last night, watching the game on CBC Hockey Night in Canada, Rangers winning the game 3 to 2 , Trevor Linden scoring both goals for the Canucks, Nathan Lafayette hitting the post with under 2 minutes remaining which would have tied up the game.
NHL Fan

I also have good memories of game 6 of the 94 Cup finals Rangers vs Canucks at the Pacific Coliseum the best game maybe ever played at Pacific Coliseum, the Canucks winning that game and forcing a game 7. I also have good clear memories of the rest of the 94 Canucks playoff run which they knocked out the Flames in 7 games coming back from down 3 to 1,the Canucks won the final 3 games of that series all in OT with Geoff Courtnall scoring the OT winner in game 5, Trevor Linden scoring the OT winner in game 6 , and Pavel Bure scoring the OT winner in double OT in game 7. as you can see folks I am a very loyal die hard Canucks fan.

this may sound weird but I never make fun or bash the Vancouver Canucks cause the Canucks will always be my favorite NHL team and cause they are the hometown team to cheer for and cause I respect the Canucks too much too bash the team. I have always been loyal to the Canucks and even when the Canucks missed the playoffs during the 96-97, 97-98, 98-99, 99-00 seasons I kept watching every Canucks game on tv and never missed a single game even though they missed the playoffs. I always been loyal to the Vancouver Canucks even through the bad seasons and I am still going to be always loyal to the Canucks for many seasons to come.

GO Canucks GO and I hope they make the playoffs this year and I still believe that the Canucks will do good during the regular season even though the Canucks finished the pre season with 2 wins and 6 losses. Also is there a chance once the season starts Naslund will playing on a line with the Sedins? they looked good together earlier tonight in a 3 to 2 OT Loss to Oilers. Daniel Sedin with 2 goals and Henrik Sedin and Naslund 2 assists each so thats pretty good.

yeah last nights Canucks game against the Flames was a good game folks. the Canucks won 3 to 2 over those damn Flames. Kesler, Josh Green, and Jan Bulis with the goals for Vancouver. I know Trevor Linden picked up an assist, so did Morrison, and I think Burrows had a assist too in that game. oh yeah Luc Bourdon had an assist too in that game.

from the top of my head I can also remember the Canucks first round picks since I am a die hard Canucks fan:
2006- Michael Grabner 14th overall Spokane Chiefs WHL
2005 Luc Bourdon 10th overall Val D Or and Moncton QMJHL
2004- Cory Schneider 26th overall
2003- Ryan Kesler 23rd overall Ohio State University NCAA
2002- First round pick traded to the Capitals for Trevor Linden during the season
2001- RJ Umberger 16th overall Ohio State University NCAA
2000- Nathan Smith 23rd overall Swift Current Broncos WHL
1999- Daniel Sedin 2nd overall and Henrik Sedin 3rd overall Modo Hockey SEL
1998- Bryan Allen 4th overall Oshawa Generals OHL
1997- Brad Ference 10th overall Spokane Chiefs WHL
1996- Josh Holden 12th overall Regina Pats WHL
1995- no first round pick
1994 Mattias Ohlund 13th Overall same draft that saw former Canucks like Jovo go number 1 to the Panthers, Nolan Baumgartner going 10th to the Capitals, and Dan Cloutier going 26th overall to the Rangers.

who do you think is gonna be better this season Canucks with Luongo in net or Flames with Kipper in net? well as I die hard Canucks fan I think the Canucks will be much better if the Canucks get off to a good start and not falter down the stretch and Luongo could have a shot at the Vezina trophy too I hope if he posts good numbers. But I get this feeling that Kipper is going to play outstanding in net again for the Flames like last season and therefore the Flames will on top again of the northwest division, which I really hope Luongo and the Canucks will be on top of the northwest division even if Kipper plays good.

Your best bet for autographs are catching them at 8 rinks after practice or before practice. or even just making it to autograph public sessions. For visiting teams catching them at there hotel in downtown. most teams stay at The Fairmount Hotel at Canada Place. I've ran into colorado and dallas there a few times.

I collect autographs but only get like getting them at public sessions. I won't harrass them and go out of my way to get things signed. but i know a guy that gets them for me and he waits during morning skates or practices at GM or 8-rinks. if you wait for visiting teams auto at the hotels some of them do sign but not all the players i noticed the last time i saw a team here which was Dallas, Mike Modano is the hardest one but Niko Kapanen is easy same with turco.

I thought Jannik Hansen played really well for the Canucks during the pre season. I hope he gets a shot at playing for the Canucks in the future cause I think he can put up decent numbers in the NHL. Actually I thought Luc Bourdon played really really well during the pre season, yeah at times he didnt look good, but he will adjust to the NHL

yeah Columbe was pretty good during the pre season games he played for the Canucks. Hopefully he has a good season with the Moose in the AHL and if the Canucks need to recall a defenceman than Columbe should get the call maybe or Alexander Edler.

yeah during the pre season at times Bourdon didnt seem adjusted to the NHL level of play I think. But as the pre season went on Bourdon seem to be much better. at times I noticed that he made alot of rookie mistakes and at times he played really well like he should be when the Canucks selected him 10th overall in the 05 draft.

Tomorrow will be an interesting game. Last year, they lost every game to St. Louis and quite a few to Columbus. Those are games they need to win.

That was a great well rounded game by the nucks, very much like the rest of the NW division, hard working, defensive minded but with some offensive punch. Good to see Nazzt on the board early in the year and Linden too. Great game by Luongo, 69 more of them and we can plan the route!!

Luc Bourdon was scratched because they want to slowly ease him into the lineup. They thought that having him play his first game against the Wings in the Joe was a bad way to start a career.
He'll most likely play tonight against the BJs.

Pretty sad effort tonight. I don't think anyone outside of the Sedin-Naslund line played very well at all. Bourdon should be on the next plane to Moncton. I was sort of choked they didn't draft Kopitar when they had the chance, but I was expecting big things from this kid. I know, he's only 19, but I don't get why the Canucks can't ever seem to find a young player who is a quality player when they are young. Everyone they draft seems to need 5 seasons before they become quality players.
When they made all of these changes, they seemed to imply that they would be playing an up-tempo style with physical play. I think there were maybe 5 hits all night for the Canucks and Cooke probably had 4. They need to play more physical and create some turnovers in the offensive zone.

I didn't say we outscored them, far from it, we just doubled the effort put in by the Oil and completely deserved the win. We still have problems scoring goals, we should have had at least 5 last night.
Tonight was a different story. We had problems mustering chances and couldn't finish them when we did get through to the net. The refs weren't on our side either, calling many marginal penalties and turning a blind-eye on many Oiler infractions (such as the broken-stick slash on Salo with under 5 to go in the 3rd).
Hopefully we can win our next one.

I hear ya....but honestly with the way attendance is doing in other cities I can see another overhaul in a couple of years for the league because of Revenue.

I can't believe Kesler didn't score in the dying seconds. He was beaten by Zubov who was on his knees and slightly behind the goal line. That kid must be super weak. Bobby Clarke screwed us!

so who gets traded first? Morrison, Cooke, Bulis, Chouinard or Kesler? You know that Rick Rypen will come up as soon as he's healthy, maybr even Nathan Smith.
I see Matt Cooke being the first one gone from the Vancouver lineup personally.

cooke, paying 1.5 for a forward that doesn't provide offense is too much
kesler can't be traded because of his contract, and no one would give up anything for bulis or chouinard when they could of had him for free
it'd be hard to get a taker for morrison at his price and we probaby wouldn't get much as far as immediate talent

I"m pretty happy where there at right now, just not happy about the whole Kesler thing. But seems like Fans in BC get influenced by the media too much and fans love to keep jumping on and off the band wagon. I can't wait to see what people say if this team starts going on a loosing streak.

we are all canucks, just like the ad tells us, but what's wrong with expecting more from your team Breeze? I want the canucks to win a cup more than anyone else, what's wrong with wanting to win, with having high expectations? I am happy with the team, happy with what we have but I want to win, so if I am the GM and I can trade some of my players (Cooke, Morrison, Bulis, Kesler) for better players, younger players, what's wrong with that? I've said it before and I'll say it again. Canuck fans have to take off the rose coloured glases and be reasonable, quit being like the Leafs fans and look at the team for what it is.

I think the new line combinations are working out better. Pyatt playing with the Sedins has been good so far. He goes to the net and is showing finish. I don't like having the Sedins and Naslund together all the time. Putting Naslund with Bulis and Morrison has proved to be OK thus far.

All I hear is complaining from guys like you and thats how you justify it EVERYTIME. "Well I pay for the ticket, blah, blah and I can expect more" Thats TOTALLY true and I can relate to that, but guys that go to the game and say Luongo gives up a goal or Bulis turns it over once and the dumb****s are going "Trade them back to wherever, go back to Montreal"...its just plain stupid....i cant stand that

Everybody is entitled to their own opinions in here, its good to see what people think and that's what these threads are for is too express your opinion. As what Dave Pratt on Team 1040 said a few days ago, people in Vancouver get too much on a high when there doing well and get on a real low when there not, people here just want to see a winner and see it now.
I think patience is not what some Vancouver Fans are about, but I know the Canucks are going to be playing in the playoffs come April. I can't see them tanking it like last year, not this year's version, they work hard and sooner or later the results will come consistently.

I have to agree with you on that, if you think the boardies on here are bad try going on the www.canucks.com forum, people on that board are complete WINNERS! , I just read some of the posts and just laugh and shake my head, the radio shows are even worse. But i guess when you have 12 year olds on there....what can you do. That's why I don't even bother posting on there anymore people there annoy the living daylights out of me, there's no point on getting worked up about something dumb.

You are being unrealistic, the guys that are questioning Luongo or booing the team have ni idea what hockey is. I am a fan of this team, I love the work ethic but to say that changes can't be made because it'll hurt someones feeling or it shows us fans as being pessimistic is moronic. I will come out right now and say I don't think the canucks will do much this year, too much change it's going to be a transition year, if they make the playoffs great, if they win a cup, great, but with all the changes I'm not asking for miracles. I am very happy with the direction of the team, the fact that everyone is working harder and smarter and there is no quit in this team. That being said, 14 new players, 3 new coaches, not everything is going to work out the first year. What I will say is that the next 2 years will be the time to advance, to show me something. Give this team 3 years and they will be great, they are not great now, they are good, but 2 or 3 more years together and they will dominate if they continue to work hard. Like I said, take off the rose coloured glasses and see the team for what it is, a team in transition, learnign a new style of play with 14 new players.

Chris has a very good point here, I guess Chris is more of realist and pessimist. we'll just have to wait and see how this year pan's out right guys??
