I'm f u ck ing done driving around....di cking around with these incompetent employees and unhelpful staff just so I can pay more for the same item that I could have gotten cheaper online. From this moment forward......I am ordering all of my new releases straight from amazon (or if another online retailer has a deal). They usually have the lowest price anyways and have free shipping. I rarely watch the movie on the day it comes out (Tuesday night) anyways.

You are finally seeing the light, my friend. Amazon is by far my prime place of business for books, movies, and games. Can't beat their prices most of the time, and customer service is the best I've ever received.

Try doing a in-store pick up and see which BB has it in stock and go there. I picked that and Shrek 3 today!!
Tried that but no luck - nowhere close has it:mad:

I finally got my 5 free HD DVD's today. It'd been so long I'd forgotten what I ordered. Anyways, I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in trading for any of these. They're all new and still sealed. I'm interested in trading for either other HD DVD's or Blu Rays. Just shoot me a PM if you're interested and we can talk. Here's what I've got;
The Chronicles of Rid****
U2 Rattle and Hum
The Perfect Storm
Thanks, Matt

If TF can get away with a DD plus 5.1 track that is virtually indistinguishable from any lossless codec or PCM, I'm sure LOTR could do the same.
And worst comes to worst, it could go on 2 disks just like the DVDs.
Not that it really matters at this point... the extended version of LOTR won't arrive for a long time yet. The theatrical versions will hit first.

Replaced that shlltty 40GB PS3 with a shiny new 80GB with Motorstorm packed in. Also bought The Simpsons, FEAR, and Oblivion. So anyone have any favorite games?
There's not a god damn Wii to be found in this city, that's what I wanted to buy today but got a PS3 as a second choice. All these people that stand in line at 6am to sell them on ebay can go **** themselves.
Also, anyone know if it's possible to buy empty PS3 game cases? I'd like to put all of my PS2 games in them so they all line-up real purdy-like on the shelf.

Did you get the game of the year Oblivion? If not, return the original version and get that. How much did you pay for FEAR? It's probably my second favorite FPS ever, but it is terrible on PS3.
I personally like Lair, Heavenly Sword was ok but wasn't anything too great IMO.
If you don't have a 360, Assassin's Creed may wet your whistle. I have only played it for about 40 minutes, but I thought it seemed awesome, so I won't fully endorse it, yet.

Game of the year Oblivion was $60 or $70, the one I got was $30. Is there a big difference between the two?
FEAR was $70, yeah I paid up the ass for it but it looks cool.
I played the demo version of Heavenly Sword, it seemed okay but a little too much like Devil May Cry or those kinds of games, don't appeal to me much. The chick in that game is smokin' though. :)
CDN pricing. There was a special on though, no taxes on anything for two days. Canadians... Superstore, might want to check it out.

The Game of the Year Oblivion comes with the expansion pack the shivering isles, which adds another 30 or so hours of gameplay, and has gotten extremely positive reviews.
FEAR for 70 is too much IMO. Return it for Assassin's Creed.

Stay with that Oblivion, if you like it you can always buy the standalone expansion disc. The PS3 Oblivion already has the first expansion "Nights of the Nine", that might be enough for you.
Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm,F1,Folklore, Warhawk & next week Uncharted.
You can probably find older PS3 games on ebay for $30, like Fear.

So funny that you'd ask about the cases, I was just thinking I wanted to do the same thing but with my 360 games and find out how to make custom spines to go inside. I really prefer the look of the smaller PS3/Blu-ray/HD DVD cases to the 360/DVD cases. I was going to call Gamestop to ask them, but I'm sure you can find someplace online that sells them, since there are places that sell empy HD DVD cases.

I think I'm going to list my 58" DLP on craigslist.
It's an HP 1080i/720p set - Original list was $2,899, I paid $1,036 for it including 2 new bulbs, and a 2 year warranty. We already redeemed one bulb in February, so the current bulb has 9 months on it, but we should still be eligible for one more.
Any idea what the value on it would be? It is in perfect condition outside of the component panel (on the front) doesn't always stay closed, which is why it was so heavily discounted.
If I could get $800 for it, that would be nice.

Got a quick question for you guys. I was watching a movie on HD earlier today and the color kept shifting ever so slightly. I could really notice it on the faces of the actors. It would shift from the natural flesh tone to a really pink color. Does this sound like something with the DVD or the DVD player? The TV doesn't shift when I'm watching regular TV and I've only noticed it on this one DVD.

Both Underworlds are great....Chicken Little wasn't bad, it was just really weird for a Disney movie, definitely not a good one.
Blazing Saddles, eh, everyone seems to rave about it. Mel Brooks (and Monty Python for that matter) just aren't my type of humor - with the rare and awesome exception of Spaceballs.

Hey guys and gals. So ibought the HDA3 did the firmware update and still 20 minutes into four different movies got that stupid error code. Called toshiba and they informed me of a local place that will look at it under warranty. So I called this place and they are backed up for at least a month. So I took the player back and now I dont know what to do. Should i get the A2? Does it have problems?

I doubt you'll find an A2 in Canada. From what I understand they sold out of stock in October.

I actually got it at best buy, and they had three more. They also had some A2's or maybe they were A20. i am not sure. Which ever one it is it was about fifty dollars more than the A3.
As of right now I dont care about spending a little more i just want to get one that will work. So if it was an A20 that I saw should I get that or the A3? Thanks for all your help.

If they have the A2 for under $200, that's not a bad option either. :)

Pretty sure the A2 only does 1080i, the A20 will do 1080p. Although I doubt I could tell the difference between the two. I own the A20 and love it, load up times are just enough to give me time to open a HD DVD case. And it's a nice looking machine too.

Why? I thought it that the HD-A20 converts the 1080p signal from the disc to 1080i, and then deinterlaces it back to 1080p incorrectly?
Unless this had been fixed which I havent looked yet I would say why pay extra for the A20. Now if the A20 has been fixed then YES i would go with the A20 IF you have a 1080P set.

@ WM on 11/24 at 8:00am (running through 11:59pm on 11/25), the 80GB PS3 ($499) will come with 10 FREE Blu-ray movies instantly. You choose any 10 BD titles under $30 within the store and they will override the prices to zero. For those stores that carry BD already, additional titles are being sent in for the sale. For those that do not have BD in their store (a small minority) product will be sent to each store specifically for this sale.
Oh, and you still get your 5 FREE movies by mail. ..Ripped from CAG.

That is the TV I got. I also got a PS3 Limited Edition with 80gb hard drive. 5 free Blu Ray Movies after mail in rebate. Free Geek Squad Installation.
I got the whole package for $1999. It was a special deal they had in the flier. Everyone else think thats a good deal? Also what are your opinions on the TV? It looked nice in the store.
I was gonna go with a 40" Samsung but this deal was about the same price but bigger TV and PS3 in the deal.
I also had a 12% off coupon that basically paid for my protection plan. I think I got a good deal even though I spent more money then I planned and got more then I planned lol.
BTW I plan on selling the PS3 and putting that money back into the purchase of the TV. So if anyone was interested in buying a PS3 send me a PM :)

Bought Hairspray and the Die Hard Collection Blu's yesterday. Nobody had really reviewed Die Hard's 1-3 yet so I was really hoping they would look/sound good. I was not disappointed! The oldest and original Die Hard surpassed my expectations and looks/sounds amazing! Definitely the best Die Hard has ever looked. I instantly had to skip to the "Uh oh what's this? The Police have themselves an RV/Oh my God the quarterback is TOAST!" scene since it's one of my favorites. :D
Hairspray may not appeal to any of you but the PQ/AQ on it is top notch. The audio is some of the best I have ever heard on any HDM release. I really enjoyed it too although the songs John Travolta sings in the middle bored me a little. Overall it's a fun movie to watch. :D

i must have called every store in the damn city last week and not a one, finally got around to calling an HMV and the guy said he didn't have any but he'd hold one for me on Monday when he gets them in if I purchased a game with it. I said I'd buy 3. :o So, a public thanks to HMV. I picked up Manhunt 2, Super Mario Galaxy and Spyro (my wife wanted it).
Gotta get another Wii-mote, Nunchuk, a classic controller, and component cables yet. Wii Sports is pretty cool. Not HD related but eh...
And Tremors HD DVD should be out now I guess, too bad i can't buy any movies or games until after Christmas now. :(

I believe they are the same really. I keep hearing they have problems doing 1080P correctly.
What type of TV do you have Rick? If your TV doesnt support 1080P/24 then I wouldnt get either. The A2 or A3 will fit your needs perfect.
They are the exact same player the A30 is just the newer version meaning it is slightly thinner that is the only difference.

Awesome, the A2 was a lot cheaper so that is the answer I was looking for. I have a 60" Sony SXRD (can't remeber the model #), it's 1080P, which is why I was looking at those 2.

The A2 will look sweet on your 1080P set. I know its only 1080I but you will not see a difference in HD PQ from the A2 A20 or the A30.

No screen yet... I still have to figure out the layout of the basement before I can settle on a screen size. I hope to be in the 90" to 100" range. For now I'll just project onto the wall when it hopefully arrives next week.

I played up until I finished my third "hit"......the slave trader. But I play the game very slowly. I've probably already put a good 12-15 hours into the game and I just completed the third contract.

Here's the one I own.
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1597763&CatId=2433
It's a pull down screen, I just leave it down all the time. It's got a black trim for a border including the top if you pull it down far enough. One thing I've been meaning to do is cut the screen off the retracting mechanism (the cylinder at the top that the screen rolls into), and just mount the screen in a fixed position, that way it looks more like a theatre and not a giant school-like-display-thing, once that's done it will look a lot better. For that price you can't go wrong, I'm happy with it.
If you're mounting your Benq this http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082803&p_id=3009&seq=1&format=2 has got decent reviews and cheap BUT I'm not too happy with it, I can't get it to tighten enough... vibrations from people walking upstairs and stuff means it slowly begins to tilt and I have to adjust every once in a while. Kind of a pain in the ass, looks kind of cheap too. I'm going to build a box for mine and paint it black, eventually.

I've been doing the same, although I gave up on the flags in the first town. I got to 15 and they wasted 20 minutes searching for the the last five :(
Then I got my ass handed to me on my way to Damascus so I figured that was a good time to stop.

freezerfuel
11-23-2007, 11:43 AM
This one is weighted down on the bottom which should help keep it from curling, and I mounted it on the wall with 2 screws. Pretty easy installation. But yeah, it's a cool screen, if they made one in 120" for a couple dollars more I'd probably get it.

Samsung 40" 1080P, 15k:1 contrast ratio, 3 HDMI inputs....for $1150 ($750 off). Then I notice it says "IN STORE ONLY" and figured.....yeah...I'm screwed seeing as how it's now 7pm. I check the ad circular...and it's not listed. So I head on down to BB. Look at every single TV they had and they didn't have this one on displayat all. SO I thought they had to be gone. So I pull an associate aside and ask him to run the product code for the TV........he stares at it for a while and then says...."hmmmmm....that's weird.....it's showing we still have our full stock...none sold today...and none on "pickup" status. I ask him to doublecheck that it is the exact same TV as the website states and that it is for $1150....he pulls one out from stock and it was the same. I told the guy...you probably haven't sold any because it's not in the ad and you don''t have one displayed with a "SALE" sign on it....oh...and I'll take one right now. :D
Short version of the story.....I ended up getting an upgraded TV for less.....and now I get to move my old HD LCD TV into the bedroom and be done with rear projection for good ;)

Anyone ever experience this problem or know what might be causing it?
I have a Toshiba 62hm84 62" DLP, and am having a problem with the HDMI connection. I am not receiving a picture.
I have tried reconnecting my units (which work on other TVs), using different HDMI cables and shutting down and unplugging the TV, all were no help.
I'm really striking out with my electronics failing on me lately.
Edit: Extremely weird...the PS3 works fine on my other TV with the same HDMI cable. And my upconvert HDMI DVD player works fine with the same HDMI cable on the Toshiba. But for some reason the PS3 won't work on the Toshiba with that same HDMI cable.

Now do you guys that already have HDTV's know if this would be a good set or am I just in awe right now of the ambilight? :o lol
There's no doubt that ambilight or any backlighting on a tv enhances the viewing experience. :)
At the 42" size, 720p is going to do you just fine. And at 20% off, I'd say go for it.
I'm not really familiar with Philips sets. It won't be as good as a Sony, Sharp or Samsung, but probably good enough if you saw it in person and it wow'd you.

Just went neutral with the walmart sale:D - too good a deal to pass up
As did I, way too good of a deal to pass up. The selection of movies wasnt the best but I easily found 10
that I wanted. My only real disapointment with the ps3 is I cant control it with my Harmony 880 since its bluetooth
Just curious, but how easy was it to get one? Did your stores have many? Did you have to line up pretty early or did you just walk in mid day?

Tomorrows Best Buy ad offers the current 2 free, plus 5 mail in that they do but also offers 3 more free movies throught he store! I jsut bought my player on Friday, will Best Buy honor that? Cause if so I'm going to get my 3 free movies!

They should honor it... if not, just buy it again and return the unopened one later with the old receipt :)

Im interested in possibly picking up an HD-DVD player. Is there a huge difference between the A3 and the A30? I know one is for 720p and the other is 1080p. The TV I purchased is 1080p. Im sure its the best fit but its like $100 more. Is there a big noticeable difference?
Also how do older DVD's look on the players?

i'm not an expert on the HD DVD players outside of the 360 add-on, but if their upconversion is at all on part with how the PS3 does it, you'll be very pleased.

I thought a3 was 1080i. My A1 is 1080i but maybe toshiba changed the specs the same way they got rid of the analog channels after mine.
I could tell the difference from my 1080i and my friend's ps3 which is 1080p.

Was easy for me - I went in about an hour after it had started and there were several left. However, there are 3 walmarts in my area and that was the only one that didn't sell out right away (I called them all before I left).

Difference's between the two are:
A30 will do 1080P and has a better chip for upscaling SD DVD's
A3 will do 1080I
PQ for HD will be the same. Upscaling of SD DVD's will be a little better on the A30 but A3 will give you a good upscaling picture of SD DVD's

ok guys, big question time here......Working at Best Buy has given me the chance to see these new Samsung 120hz LCD's in action. It's really weird to see a movie on a 120hz TV. It's just so different than what I'm used to seeing with 60hz. It almost looks like you're watching a behind the scenes documentary and you're seeing it with no post production done to it. It moves so much faster that it looks almost too real and not like a real movie. I can't describe it better than that. It just intrigues me so much!
So the question is, are we supposed to watch movies this way on 120hz TV's? It's just a huge difference between 60hz and 120hz that I can't grasp watching movies with the clarity and movement that 120hz gives. I'd really love comments from people who have seen this. It's boggling my mind right now....

The 120hz make it seem like you are watching the movie at 1.5 times the normal movie rate, watching Spiderman 3, on a Sony A3000 with an ES blu-ray player totally did not do it for me, I am not sure what the draw is to watching a movie like that, it seemed unreal and you could really tell what CGI was and what was not CGI

I picked up a Sony 42" 720p for $598 at Ulitimate Electronics on Fri. It works like a charm.

So 1080I will look fine on a 1080P TV? Also how good is the quality when a DVD-R or DVD-RW is being used on an A3?

Anyone have any experiencewith mounting their flat screen above the fireplace? We're looking at a house, and the ideal spot would be there. Looked at avsforums.com, but couldn't get anywhere.

Fell the wall where the fireplace is If your fireplace gives off heat = no dice, no heat = dice and go for it

Ok so I have the oppurtunity to purchase a 60GB PS3 for $350. Unfortunatly the Five Free Blu Ray offer would be expired (the system was actually store bought 4 months ago) but it would be complete for Backwards Compatibility (which is a big plus).
Do you think its a good buy or not...(oh yes and the guy is throwing in a copy of Ridge Racer as well)

Yes, it's a good deal. I enjoy mine very, very much. The 60 GB is the best option, and there are quite a few good games out for it now.

Good point....I think I'm going to make an appointment for Firedog to come out and take a look, provided we buy the house. I'm a huge fan of professional home theater installation, with clean wiring, etc.
