Anyone know how this show is "controversial"? Or is just computerized mommy and daddy parts and the "religious-conservatives-with-sticks-up-their-butts" complained?

So there seems to be some controversy on just how good/bad the PQ is on Dewey Cox as several others sites have given it very high marks while HDD gave it a low score.
Regardless of PQ, stay away from Walk Hard. I seriously doubt you'd like it.

My FYE had out Baron Munchausen tonight so I picked that up with store credit.
If anyone cares, FYE has a deal going on right now, buy 2 blu-ray get $5 off....buy 3 get $10, buy 4+ get $5 off each one. I know FYE prices are high, but with this deal and the 10% from the backstage pass (if you have it), it actually brings the prices under Best Buy, and at least at my FYE they tend to get in some of the odd catalog titles Best Buy doesn't stock in store here.
Alas, that is now the end of my $650 run on FYE store credit from massive DVD and CD trade-ins.

damn. plus shipping or included?
To be honest...they handled it really weird. They actually gave me the three "in stock" items as the freebies. Even though...they were higher retail then the pre-releases. They then mailed all three in stock Blu Rays and my invoice was for $0.
Then...as the pre release became available (so far...that's been I am Legend). I was charged $1.99 for shipping. So I'm assuming I'll get charged $1.99 for Dewey and again for Compass.
So basically...it'll be $6 for 6 movies in total, spread out over 4 different shipments...not bad at all.

I thought it was a really good show, but the blu-ray version will be rentals if anything for me.
Also, I have a Netflix question. If anyone uses their instant watch service, I used to click on the title and it would give me a list of the episodes for tv shows, but I'm not sure how to get to the list of episodes anymore. I did it by accident the other day, but I don't know how. Now I just click on play and it starts with the last episode I was watching. Not a big deal, but it is annoying. any input?

Hey - do any of you have your Xbox360 linked to your computer? I play my music through it, but I can only get sound out of the 2 front speakers. I went into the audio area of the 360 setup, and it's properly set to Dolby Digital. The receiver also reports that it's in Dolby Digital mode.
Can you not do this with music? I played a movie through it the other day, and the surround sound was fine.

So I've been wanting to watch Into The Wild lately ,cause i recently got done reading the book. I wanted to watch it in HD due to the awesome scenery I knew would be there.
I bit the bullet, and "rented" it from the xbox live service. Netflix didn't have it on the live rentals, and I don't have an hd-dvd player so this was my only option to watch it now. I gotta say, besides that it's kind of expensive (480 points which works out to a little more than 5 bucks. Probably closer to 6) It wasn't too bad of a deal. The movie download some, and at some point said it was playable, which is when I started it. When I was about 3/4 of the way through the movie, I got another ding that said it was done downloading. i had no issues with the movie stopping or anything.
*Possible spoilers below* But they shouldn't be since it's a true story and you should know already!
PQ wise, it was awesome. 720p, but it was great. The image really popped and looked like I was right there with him. Emile Hirsch did an awesome job for this role, and near the end looked dead when he lost all the weight.
I probably won't do it again, but it wasn't bad at all really. The price should come down a bit would be my only complaint.

I want free money for not buying HD DVD. There were plenty of times I was tempted....oh man the add-on for the 360 is cheap, wow I can't believe they got Transformers, damn I want Clerks 2, I heard the Hulk movie looked awesome, American Gangster is coming out.....yet no I never flinched, I was like a Shaolin Blu-ray Monk.
The simple fact that I fought through the urges, stayed loyal, and bought Little Man and Dragon Wars while movies like King Kong and Bourne were on the shelves should allow me to at least $50...maybe $75.

I mean the movie had "Dragon" and "Wars" in it's title, who would have ever thought it would be a bad movie.

Cant remember if this was posted here or not. Walmart is offering a deal like BB for HD DVD players:
More good news for those left on the short end of the format war, Wal-Mart has quietly decided to offer refunds for anyone who purchased their HD DVD player between November 1, 2007 and now. You won't need the box it came in, but the receipt will be necessary, and get moving because this offer is only open until the 30th. A $50 gift card just 'cause this isn't, but for those looking to erase a red moment in their lives, Wal-mart's doors are open. http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/04/07...urns/#comments (http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/04/07/wal-mart-offers-up-hd-dvd-returns/#comments)

Seriously....Hellboy? I thought Hellboy's PQ was close to stunning. Razor sharp detail, bold, lush colors...I'd almost put it near the bottom of my top 10 blu-rays for PQ.
I should have noted I'm only picking from the 13 blu movies I own. I have a pretty nice selection and Hellboy IMO is the worst of all of them PQ wise. Just way too grainy too often and that really got to me.

I hope they do, too. I know no company really cares about the consumer, but CC seems to go out of its way to prove this.
- Ridiculously high extended warranty prices
- Nobody who knows what they're talking about
- Crappy sales
- As the article says, NOBODY to help you answer a question
The only thing CC is good for is price matching and occassionally being so ******ed that we as the consumer benfit in some form.

DTS-HD Master Audio CONFIRMED FOR PS3!!!!!
PS3 Firmware (v.2.30) Details and Store Walkthrough
I have more good news to report today – the system software update will also add DTS-HD Master Audio output for Blu-ray videos, which means the high-definition visuals of Blu-ray will now be matched with the highest quality audio for the ultimate movie-watching experience on PS3.
DTS-HD Master Audio is literally bit-for-bit identical to the studio master recording and makes movie soundtracks and sound effects truly come to life. The technology delivers audio at the incredibly high rate of 24.5 mega-bits per second (Mbps) on Blu-ray disc, which is significantly higher than standard DVDs. DTS-HD Master Audio also offers 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depths, so you’ll be totally immersed in the sound. The firmware update will add DTS-HD High Resolution Audio as well, which is a similar output technology that requires less disc space. You can read more about both codecs here.
A lot of you, particularly the home theatre enthusiasts and audiophiles out there, have been asking us for this capability, and we can’t wait until you have an opportunity to pop in a compatible Blu-ray video to test it out for yourself.

.The new connectivity will see the the iPhone acting as a PS3 remote control, and will also introduce new touch features that might be integrated into PS3 movies (via Blu-ray), games and applications. The CTO said the new SDK "will allow studios, independent movie companies to enable BD Touch features. These features send data in two directions from the Disc to the iPhone and vice versa. Video, audio, text, and player commands can be sent. So right now it seems everyone likes the 'remote control' idea. However the player can control the iPhone as well.".

.In addition, Blockbuster will be bringing the PS3 and Blu-ray to the forefront of their marketing. Each of the North American Blockbuster stores will soon have a PS3 hooked up to a 42-inch HDTV to show off Blu-ray Disc movies. I don't know about you guys, but this will be a huge technological jump for my local Blockbuster, which currently has around five small CRT TVs hanging from the ceiling, playing endless loops of movie trailers. Isn't that standard?.

Yeah, anyone who complained about you giving preference to the "lot" purchaser has never packed up a bunch of stuff before and gone to the post office. The APS definitely makes things easier, but it's still a massive pain to fill out 10-12 different shipping addresses and pack each individual box.
I'll take the convenience over a few extra dollars each and every time, which is why I just sold my SP collection as a whole instead of breaking it up.

Fox is a hard company to deal with. Generally you can do a little bit of self boycotting to try to prove a point to them. But at least for me I have a hard time not getting their movies when I love alot of their releases. Man on Fire, X-Men, Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow, etc I all had to have the day they came out.
The one thing they are shooting themselves in the foot with is their "borderline" titles. The titles where when you go into a store on release day you have the "ehh I might buy that, I might not". With a Fox title if I have that feeling it's a 100% guarentee I won't get it because of the price point.

I'll buy FOX titles....but whenever it's been a catalog title it's either been through store credit or gift cards or Amazon sale, etc...
It's so ******ed that FOX new releases are typically $29.99 at retail but the bare-bones catalog titles are $34.99

Not exactly Star Wars or LOTR but this confirms I'll be going broke this year....
Okay... let's talk upcoming Blu-ray releases. First, let's give you a summary of all the Blu-ray related news we've posted in the daily My Two Cents column over the last several weeks that some of you may have missed.
We'll start with Fox and MGM. We posted on 3/21 that many catalog titles are in the works for possible release by the end of 2008 from both studios, including such films as Walk the Line, the classic Batman: The Movie (this has since been officially announced for 7/1), The French Connection, Super Troopers, Fargo, the X-Men trilogy, the original Planet of the Apes, possibly Young Frankenstein and maybe even MGM musical titles, not to mention the expected new release films. We've since informed you (on 4/8) that all five classic Planet of the Apes films are in the works for Blu-ray Disc release to honor the original film's 40th anniversary. We're now hearing they're tentatively set for October. Also coming later this year is a Blu-ray Disc version of Firefly: The Complete Series. And the Point Break: Pure Adrenaline Edition was just officially announced today for BD release on 7/1.
Meanwhile, Buena Vista has already announced the theatrical version of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which is tentatively due on 5/13 (the street date may change slightly). The National Treasure: Collector's Edition and National Treasure: Book of Secrets both follow on 5/20. As we first revealed on 3/24, June will see the Blu-ray release of The Recruit and M. Night Shyamalan's Signs, both on 6/3. Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York is now confirmed for Blu-ray release on 7/1. The studio has officially announced the Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert - The 3-D Movie for Blu-ray Disc release on 8/19, and it will feature the first actual 3-D presentation on Blu-ray, complete with 3-D glasses (a regular 2-D version will also be included). And Sleeping Beauty is currently set for 10/7, featuring BD-Live content and "living menus," including a real-time castle environment that changes based on your location. The straight-to-video sequel Tinkerbell is due in October as well. Obviously, a number of new theatrical films will also be released on Blu-ray Disc in 2008 (think Wall-E and others). But here's a few new titles for you: Studio sources have confirmed that a Nixon: Election Year Edition and Good Will Hunting are both on the way for later in 2008. We've also learned that Kill Bill 1 & 2 and Finding Nemo are now being planned for release in 2009 on the format.
Now let's talk Warner: As many of you should know by now, Twister has been set for release on 5/6. The Wachowski Brothers' V for Vendetta is now due on Blu on 5/20 (timed to coincide with the theatrical release of their new Speed Racer film). Both the Dirty Harry: Special Edition and a Dirty Harry: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set (containing all of the films) are due on 6/3. Warner has announced Batman Begins and a Batman Begins: Limited Edition Gift Set for release on Blu-ray on 7/8. The Dark Knight will obviously be released on Blu-ray Disc later this year, and it's possible that the Batman Anthology box set might be released then as well, if work can be completed in time (work is already well underway). Other new release films you can expect on BD in 2008 are Speed Racer, Get Smart and 10,000 B.C., with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price and Where the Wild Things Are following in 2009.
In terms of classic catalog, it's Warner's goal (by mid to late summer) that going forward, EVERY TIME they issue a new catalog special edition or Ultimate Collector's Edition on standard DVD, the title will also available day-and-date on Blu-ray Disc as well. Currently in the works for release this year on Blu-ray are How the West Was Won, Gigi, An American in Paris and possibly a new A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition. Heat needs a new transfer, but its already in the works, and Clash of the Titans will likely be released later in 2008. All of the titles previously released on HD-DVD only will arrive on Blu-ray Disc in the next year or so, including Mutiny on the Bounty, Forbidden Planet, Casablanca, Excalibur, Grand Prix and The Adventures of Robin Hood (Robin Hood will likely be the first to arrive in stores, as all the BD elements have been completed). And currently in the works for Blu-ray release in 2009 are such landmark classics as The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Woodstock and North by Northwest. What's more, Ben-Hur will arrive on Blu-ray on '09 as well, just in time to celebrate the film's 50th anniversary.
And finally, here's a bit of new information that should excite fans of both Blu-ray Disc and The Matrix. Sources at Warner Home Video have confirmed to us that when The Matrix Trilogy makes its way to Blu-ray (likely in the 4th quarter, timed to the DVD and Blu-ray release of Speed Racer), The Animatrix will also be released on Blu-ray Disc in true 1080p high-definition. Whether it will be included in the box set or released separately (or both) is still TBD, but the simple fact that The Animatrix wasn't included in high-def in the HD-DVD box set was a key complaint for fans, so it's nice to know the studio is rectifying that on Blu-ray.

The only thing I'm really really psyched for out of that entire list is the X-Men trilogy. I'm definately going to get alot of the titles in that listing, National Treasure, Point Break, Narnia, Batman, V, etc etc.
But when I originally bought into Blu-ray, two of the absolute biggest reasons were the Spiderman trilogy and X-Men trilogy, and while I'm psyched to have X-Men 3, the first two movies were 10 times better then the third.

Well, that gives me a reason to hold off on buying X-Men 3, I'll just wait until the trilogy is out.
Let's see here - Point Break, Fargo, National Treasure 1 & 2, Gangs of New York, Sleeping Beauty, Kill Bill 1 & 2, Finding Nemo, Harry Potter 21, Heat, Twister and the Dirty Harry set from the one's mentioned in the article I'll get, most of those I already knew about.
Sounds like it's going to be hard to keep up with titles coming out that I want to get, hell it's hard enough now. Guess now is the time to pick through what's out there more carefully and not be as impulsive. Although Warner releasing all their titles on Blu-ray that were HD DVD exclusive is good, because I already own most of those already. Yay, a break... sorta.
When it was only HD DVD I was buying it was a lot easier to keep up and maybe buy titles I wouldn't have bought if I had the selection of DVD. But now, with Blu-ray probably starting to release more movies soon than both HD DVD and Blu-ray combined last year (which is a good thing of course) I'm going to be more choosy in what I buy.
Still no mention of Grindhouse, sigh.

I try to avoid totally dated films to purchase on Hi-Def. Just look at Predator, Commando and Robocop. They had crap reviews on PQ and AQ.

Best movies to test out your Surround Sound:
From http://www.electronichouse.com/article/great_movie_scenes_for_surround_sound/C26
2001: A Space Odyssey (Blu-ray/PCM 5.1) - Two scenes jump out; when the Apes discover the Monolith and Dave’s psychedelic journey leading to the film’s end.
Pride and Prejudice (HD DVD/Dolby TrueHD 5.1) - The ambiance is amazing in this film. And while perhaps more evident in scenes like that of the party, it’s just as pervasive when smaller groups (such as Liz’s family) are together. I love those countryside scenes as well.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Blu-ray/Dolby Digital Surround EX) - Where to start? Pick any scene and the action screams at you from all sides. And don’t forget the chase.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (Blu-ray/PCM 5.1) - Listen to the rain at the very beginning and the discrete effects during the sword fight between the two protagonists on the “Wheel.”
BEN-HUR (DVD/Dolby Digital 5.1) - The Roman chariot race. I thought those horses were trampling through my living room.
Corpse Bride (HD DVD/Dolby Digital Plus) - An excellent atmosphere is created by the surrounds and works to form a perfect world the listener can inhabit throughout the film.
Independence Day (Blu-ray/DTS-HD 5.1) - There are plenty of scenes to choose from, but we’ll start with the death beam pummeling the skyscraper and then move over to the White House getting destroyed as well.
Blade Runner (HD DVD Collector’s Edition/Dolby TrueHD 5.1) - The Spinner (flying car) has a real presence as it travels (or hovers) due to surrounds. You can hear and feel the grittiness of the city. It seems to coat you like a dirty fog.
Cars (Blu-ray/PCM 5.1) - Race cars revving their engines, need I say more? There are plenty of distinct sounds as the cars do their racing thing.
House of Flying Daggers (Blu-ray/PCM 5.1) - While it might seem obvious, the sound separation that comes from hearing the pebbles bouncing against the drums really sends the message of what surround is all about.
Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace (DVD/Dolby Digital Surround EX) - The Pod race, obviously.
U2 Rattle and Hum (HD DVD/Dolby Digital Surround EX) - The sheer volume of the noise levels makes us remember why we stopped going to concerts - but it’s great to be back.
Transformers (HD DVD/Dolby Digital Plus) - Okay, it’s the fight scenes...whether War on robots or robot-on-robot has plenty of surround working to keep you occupied. And loud too, we especially liked the appearance of the Scorpion/Decepticon.
3:10 to Yuma (Blu-ray/PCM 7.1) - The end-run to the train is a strong climax. Guns popping, people grunting, it’s like you are in the middle of all the danger.
Blazing Saddles (HD DVD/Dolby Digital Plus) - Sitting down in the dust at the campfire with the cowboys, eating those tasty beans (hey, couldn’t resist including it).

I think the DTS track to Master and Commander should be on that list. It's definitely tops on my list, if only for SD DVD's. The surrounds are constantly active and I mean constantly - you'll get friggin' seasick it's so immersive. I'm excited to see what they can accomplish with the BD release of this film with all of the extra space to allow for audio.

I walked in with the player, power cord, and remote only. No box, no manuals, no nothing. All I had was a copy of the receipt and a copy of my barcode since I mailed all that away for the rebate. If they had asked, I would have said I threw everything out after the original return deadline passed. I wouldn't have mentioned the rebate at all.

Philips Ending Production of TVs for U.S. Market
By ERIC A. TAUB
LOS ANGELES — In another sign of a shake-out in the competitive flat-panel television market, Royal Philips Electronics, the Dutch consumer electronics giant, will no longer manufacture televisions for sale in the United States or Canada.
The Philips brand will still be sold, but the sets will now be made under license by Funai Electric for at least five years. While not a well-known consumer brand in the United States, Funai, based in Tokyo, already sells Emerson, Sylvania, Symphonic and other lower-priced brands in the North American market.
Globally, Philips has pulled back from consumer electronics manufacturing. Most recently, the company has significantly reduced its position in LG. Philips L.C.D., a display panel manufacturer. Originally a joint venture with South Korea’s L.G., Philips has now cut its stake to 13.2 percent and the company’s name has been changed to LG Display.
The company will leave its Atlanta headquarters and consolidate employees from its remaining consumer products in its offices in Stamford, Conn. Those working in the television business may be employed by Funai, Mr. Zeven said.

I currently have a tv with ATSC, 8-VSB (whatever the hell that is), and a clear-QAM tuner. would a box like this Samsung DTBH260F HDTV Terrestrial Receiver (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-DTBH260F-HDTV-Terrestrial-Receiver/dp/B000JV6TQY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1207958947&sr=8-1) give me more choices for digital channels? I currently get 6 or 7; PBS, ABC, NBC, all the basic ones. Also, I don't know how far the nearest tower is from me, or how to find that out. Thanks in advance for the help.

i searched amazon, dont see this on bluray..thats one of my fave movies..
So, I'm in the middle of Almost Famous.
I have to say, GO GET THIS BLU-RAY!
It's so freaking awesome. The movie is great. The PQ is excellent. I got scared at the opening when he's writing all the names of the actors, cause it was crappy PQ, but the movie itself is freaking awesome. I forgot how good it is :)
Wish I had a better sound system to handle the music.

i've been trying to unload most of my collection for awhile now.
I'm thinking I might just clear it all out except for the Falcons stuff (what little there is).
The last packaging change almost made me drop it, now this one will.

I'm at the very end of selling my entire collection except for Chicago figures...I also have a 49ers Rice, a Snowy Brady and a Reg Brady Rookie I want to sell. Of everything else, I've gotten more than $4K for it all.

I gave up on SP's long time ago. ;) Just keeping a few of my fave Chi-town players and that's all.
BTW- reminder TNT-HD is replaying Lord Of the Rings Trilogy all day today. I HIGHLY recommend you watch or DVR at least Return Of the King. I watched the DVR recording I had the other night and I was just blown away during the whole movie. Especially when Aragorn goes to get the army of the dead and whole showdown at Minas Tirith (elephant scene was awesome!) where some of the best PQ I've seen on TV ever.
Too bad this makes me want the extended version on blu so much more now. :(

I always hear about people doing price matching at stores but I have never done it. What is the procedure? Do you just bring in the other stores flyer and present it at the register or do you have to go to customer service desk with it? Any information would be appreciated. Target has a few BD's I want to get this week but rather buy them at BB and use my rewards card :)

Yeah most of the time you can have it price matched at the register, some make you go up to the customer service desk. Yes bring in the Ad or sometimes they might call over to that store to verify that the sale is going on. Hope this helps

Anybody know how I can get sound out of my TV and my speakers? I thought I had both working at the same time with my blu ray but I guess not. If I use the HDMI for the Blu ray and use an optical cord direct from my TV to my reciever, would that do it?

Bring in the printout and just say you'd like to price match. Best Buy can do it at the register...Circuit City you have to go to customer service. You probably have to go to customer service for Wal-Mart, too. Target to my knowledge does NOT price match.

Good question. There's absolutely no reason you would want sound coming from your tv speakers. Turn the set all the way down or disable the tv speakers altogether if you can.

Can you just print out the ad from online and take it into Best Buy or do you actually have to have the flyer from the store? If I can use a print out from online that would be far easier.

Question for you guys on the new PS3 DTS thing....
Do you still need to have a receiver that can handle the high definition audio? Or does the PS3 magically take care of that?
And does anyone know where I can demo HD audio? Would BB or CC have that set up for comparison?

The Warner HD DVD blowout has begun in Canada.
Futureshop has most HD DVD only disks for $12.99... combos are $14.99 or $17.99.
Picked up the remastered Full Metal Jacket and The Ant Bully. :)

You don't need an uber pricey receiver that internally decodes TrueHD and DTS-HD MA... the PS3 will do that. As long as it has HDMI and supports PCM you are good!

Take a look at the Sony STRDG910 Jaylis... it was specifically made to run with BD players.
It doesn't decode Dolby TruHD or DTS MA, but as long as your players do you'll be fine. :)
I had to fight a wicked urge to buy one today for $399 at Bestbuy...

for those who have received their BB gift cards, was there anything you did to expedite it? Or such as the calls ppl have received from BB, what was said in the call? I received a voicemail from BB but they mentioned something about a claim so I simply disregarded it thinking it was the wrong number.

My favorite part of the movie is when Dean goes back to the kitchen and tells Dane Cook's character to remember no bacon. Then Dane Cook acts like a slave saying "yes sir no bacon im sorry sir." and the other cook is whipping him with the towel.
I spit my ice coffee all over myself that was so funny. Its racist and vulgur but its so damn funny. Dane Cook wasnt a major role but thats the best I have ever seen him in a movie.
