My favorite part of the movie is when Dean goes back to the kitchen and tells Dane Cook's character to remember no bacon. Then Dane Cook acts like a slave saying "yes sir no bacon im sorry sir." and the other cook is whipping him with the towel.
I spit my ice coffee all over myself that was so funny. Its racist and vulgur but its so damn funny. Dane Cook wasnt a major role but thats the best I have ever seen him in a movie.
Couldnt agree more-That line kills me.

Yeah, I haven't seen any of his other movies, but he kills in this one.
I also love when the rednecks are eating and the guy is like "Mmmm mmmm, nothing offsets the flavor of a steak like some ketchup."

My girlfriend got a 30something inch LCD one for her bedroom. She couldn't care less about quality... She just wanted a flat TV and doesn't want to pay for cable. Anyways, I was quite shocked when we hooked it up to OTA HDTV. The picture is really nice quality! The picture looked pretty darn good! Even the TV itself was a nice build.
The biggest problem with the TV is that if something goes wrong with it, you might be SOL. If something goes wrong with it after a year, you're very SOL. It's a disposable TV. You use it until it dies. Nobody knows when that is.
So I wholeheartedly recommend them as a low cost disposable solution as long as you aware of what you're paying for. :)

I'll make it easy for you, the movie is amazing. You can't let an abrupt ending ruin such a moving film.
To me No Country for Old Men is like watching the most entertaining and gripping Superbowl ever, only to have the team you wanted to lose, win the game at the last second. Sure it wasn't the outcome you were hoping for but that doesn't change how awesome the game was.

I know some people hate them, but I just picked up a 47" 1080p Vizio from Sams. It was 1278 or something like that. The picture on it is beautiful. I love it. It was well worth the money. The model is like a v047l or something like that. I would recommend this tv to anyone looking for something similar in size. Blu-rays look awesome, xbox 360 does as well. It has just as good a picture than the more expensive tv's for a whole heck of a lot less money than others.

I concur with this. I own a 50" plasma Vizio, and I love it! Well worth the money. Everyone that comes over is just astonished by the picture quality, and instantly they all fall in love my TV. If your on a limited budget or just don't want to spend a ton on HD at this point, then Vizio is highly recommended by me.
BTW- The original Vizio I bought has some picture problems. I called Vizio and they sent a repair crew to my place to fix it. Since they could not fix it, Vizio later sent a replacement TV to me. Funny thing is Vizio actually gave me a much newer and better quality TV then I had originally bought. So I must say their customer service is outstanding. :D

From what I've read, it is highly recommended to run calibrations for each separate unit you have hooked up to you HDTV. You cannot expect your calibrations for your PS3 to be the same as lets say your HD cable converter box or your XBox 360. Each system has it's own separate output, so what your PS3 blu ray might be pushing out will be different then what your 360 HD DVD player pushes out in video quality.
My mind would rest a lot more easy knowing that my P3 and 360 where each calibrated perfectly for my plasma. ;)
Oh yeah just as an example: My setting are way different from my cable box to my P3 settings. If I try and switch the setting from one system to the other, you can clearly see how certain calibrations work better for each system.

Well no in this analogy your favorite team or most hated team wouldn't be in the superbowl. It would be too neutral parties battling it out on the gridiron. So kinda like when the 49ers faced off against the Bengals and I wasn't a 49ers fan or a Bengals fan and most importantly I wasn't even born. But that was a hell of a superbowl and while the 49ers came out on top when I would have liked the Bengals to win instead it doesn't take away from the fact that, that superbowl was awesome.

Gotcha:D The ending of NCFOM didn't bother me so much, even right after I watched it. It's actually not a bad idea... combine the new stores and allow for a rental section in CCs and a larger sales section in BBVs. Reorganize and trim the fat from management at the top.
And get agressive with pricing of course.
As much venom as I see spewed for both companies, I do hope they survice. Competition is key to keeping prices down.

I always calibrate per input not per PS3, Xbox 360 unless they are all hooked up to different inputs. I have everything running to one input and did the calibration that way.
So calibrate per INPUT is the best way to do it.

Some sort of smart merger of CC and BBV could work. My BBV has converted over recently to a more sales focused store, so they push all the new games and movies for sale now as well as other stuff like posters and such. Personally, I find it annoying, but I see the point in doing it.
Really, the rental model they use for movies is failing them fast. They keep doing the bait and switch with their store and online rental plans to get people into the store and then trap their money somehow.
Somehow making their rentals available in CC would probably be the best option.

The PS3 and 360 are easy of course as DVE and other tools are available. But how would you calibrate something like a cable box or DVR?
As far as I know, all calibration is done on the tv only.

But of course. :)
The only way to do cable box is by eye (unless you pay a pro to do it). With what I learned from the DVE disks and how settings should properly work, I was able to adjust my settings for brightness, contrast and sharpness. Color well that's more difficult to get properly right, but should be left to personal preference anyway. It might be harder for those that don't notice finer details to do but I for sure have seen a huge difference on how much more 3D my cable HD channels look now.

No, I mean the component settings from my TV.
You don't calibrate a P3 or 360 system itself do you? No, just the input settings with help from the DVE disks. (not saying this to sound mean, I know it almost sounds that way. :o just making a point :))
So that is what you do with your cable's input settings. Use the tricks they teach you about settings and you should be able to eye for yourself the best levels for your preference.

Yup, your misreading my posts. :p
All I want is
my P3 blu ray calibrated perfectly (done thx to blu DVE disk) to my TV via HDMI input 1
my 360 HD DVD calibrated perfectly (not done yet, I would like to use HD-DVD DVE disk still) to my TV via HDMI input 2
my DVR HD cable box calibrated to my TV via component input 1 - maybe I should not call this one calibrated, let's just say I set my settings to my liking and leave it at that. :olol
since each input saves it's settings I can do each one specifically.

I understanding what you are saying now but it still doesnt makes sense. You calibrate each input no matter what is hooked up to it. I will have to watch that video to see exactly what you are saying.
Hey whatever makes that input shine. :D
So the question is was the DVE worth the money to you? Did you notice a difference after doing the calibration? I thought so. Some thought it was hard to understand but I thought it was simple to follow.
Your thoughts?

No, actually you don't calibrate each input no matter what is hooked up to it to get optimal settings. You can and still have it look good but it doesn't always work out. So say I have an XBOX 360 on HDMI 1 and a PS3 on HDMI 2 and I calibrated both inputs for those systems using the HD-DVE for the 360 and BluRay DVE for the PS3. So the picture settings for HDMI 1 will probably be different than HDMI 2 because both systems do not necessarily produce the same picture. So now if I switch and hook the 360 to HDMI2 and the PS3 to HDMI1, the settings may not be optimal anymore for each system.

Oh yeah, I looked over my DVE disk again. I guess the calibrations did make a difference. I switched back and forth from other setting and the custom calibrated setting I made with the DVE disk and boy can you tell the difference in the color. I then put in TMNT and then Cars and damn was I astounded at how much more beautiful the picture looked. I think now I'll have to add TMNT at the top of my list of best PQ movies on blu.
Yeah it does make a difference if you take the time.. Glad you noticed it.
It really makes the Colors pop on the screen. Cars and TMNT really POP on BR.

We went over this a few days ago Chris. ;):p:D Here I quoted the posts above to refresh your memory.
Oh and when you watch the video Chris, pay very close attention to what he says at the beginning about calibrating each system. It's short what he says but make all the sense in the world to me. :D ;)
So say I have an XBOX 360 on HDMI 1 and a PS3 on HDMI 2 and I calibrated both inputs for those systems using the HD-DVE for the 360 and BluRay DVE for the PS3. Just finished watching I Am Legend. Not a bad movie. PQ was great. Will Smith did a good job in it I thought. There were some moments where I thought I was watching a rip off of Cast Away (mainly the scenes with the manaquins). But overall a good movie. Solid 7 out of 10 in my book.

What Prime wrote:
Problem is Manny (unless I'm misreading) you can't calibrate each system.
The PS3 and 360 are easy of course as DVE and other tools are available. But how would you calibrate something like a cable box or DVR?
As far as I know, all calibration is done on the tv only.

And I just don't see how calibrating one input with your blu ray DVE disk can still be optimal for all your other source devices on that same input. Each source device has it's own distinct output power so your HD and blu ray players are not pushing out the same quality, but your using the setting from just blu to watch everything:confused:. The way I look at it, you calibrated your blu ray player perfectly to your HDTV with blu DVE disk but your HD-DVD player itself is not calibrated to your TV because your using setting that are intended for your blu ray player not your HD-DVD player. Each DVE disk (blu/HD-DVD) calibrates each source system specifically to it's full potential to your TV.
Yes in over-explaining myself people did miss that I said I used the TIPS I learned from the DVE disk about settings to fix the setting on my cable box. Like I tried to retract a few post ago, I should not have called it calibrating my cable box:o, I just used TIPS from the disk and that link I posted with the HD expert on it. So NO, you cannot calibrate a cable box. You can only fix the settings on your TV to make it look close.
But yeah your right Chris, dead horse, move on, nothing to see here folks. ;) :p :D

Manny I only have ONE HDMI INPUT on my TV so I can only calibrate that ONE input. I would do each HDMI input if I had more like you did. I did do my component for HD Cable.
My one Input that I calibrated looks amazing no matter WHAT goes through it, PS3, HD DVD etc... All sources really POP. I dont think my TV will allow me to save 4 or 5 different settings (PS3, Xbox 360 ,Wii, etc.) on one HDMI input. I dont know I really didnt try to be honest. So I just have one setting set and thats what my eye's enjoy.
I have everything going to my Receiver to the TV with ONE HDMI Cable.
I have seen others that calibrated their settings and to be honest my has more of a 3D look then theirs did. Even tho everything was going to one INPUT.
But I agree if I had more HDMI inputs I would calbrate each one like you did.

you can buy it! i wasn't telling you not too. I was just expressing my personal displeasure and choice. the disc is big enough for both. for that price, they can let us choose which version we want to watch, because there is surely enough room to fit them both. I had a 7 year old Yamaha receiver that I just gave to a friend. If you have one that will bring in enough to warrant putting it up for sale, I'd suggest selling it on Ebay with free shipping as that tends to bring in extra bidding, and you might get more than actually listing a shipping price.

I was trying to do the math in my head today on what deal made the most sense and I went blank so I just bought the AvP 2 Pack today and figured I'd pick up Predator on the 20th from Target. I figured that was cheaper then the AvP2 + Predator for $45 deal. Although now that I think about it, it was probably exactly the same.

Watching Predator now, I don't care what the reviews say this looks pretty damn good. Somewhat grainy yes but it's a definite upgrade over the DVD and it's the best I've ever seen. The audio is damn good too. DTS-HD MA can been seen in the "Select" menu while it plays and even though I'm only using optical and getting 1.5mb/s it still sounds damn good.

Disney is being very smart with their releases in my opinion. Hannah Montana 3-D and Tinkerbell brings in more consumers to the Blu-ray format. How many young girls will be bugging their parents for a Blu-ray player once they hear they can watch Hannah Montana in 3-D on Blu-ray? Probably more than you think. Tinkerbell was probably made digitally so bringing it to Blu-ray is a no brainer.

Everyone thought HSM2 would bring people to BR and it didnt. Few yes but not many. I doubt 3-D Hannah Montana is going to have parents running our dropping $400 on a BR machine so their kids can enjoy it in 3D. Same goes for Tinkerbell..
It might sell well to those who have a BR player.;

10,000 BC is probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I go to the movie theaters once a year and wasted my time going to see that complete piece of junk during my 1 time. The guy who cut the trailer deserves at least 80 of that 93 million because it was the damn trailer (which was awesome by the way) that got me to go see that movie and in the end the trailer was far better then the movie itself.
Now here's the tricky part about this title. It has the potential to be demo material. For as awful as this movie is (and believe me it's awful) if done properly it could be one of the best looking blu-ray titles to date.

Alot of people I know run everything through the receiver then to the TV into one HDMI slot. Alot less cables that way.. So everything would be running through one INPUT.

I don't know how to classify Clayton. It was a drama....but there was very little "hidden" from the viewer. You know all the major players...and everything seems to be laid out for you rather simply. It's got some great performances in it. But...along the lines of my, gotta have it in 1080P, movies....this one can be excluded. The high def part doesn't really factor too much into a film like this.
I will say this though. My wife thoroughly enjoyed it. And she is like my bitter movie rival. I like action...she likes Rom-Com. I like blood and guts....she likes a more realistic story. I like comic book character movies...she thinks they're "silly".

So, how much does this rock the ****:
My parents 65" CRT has taken a nose dive, and it was barely covered by its Best Buy extended warranty, and after 3 attempts to fix it they said screw it, here is your exchange sheet.
So I now have $2,200 to play with, and I get to pick the TV. We're not looking to go more then $2,400, and I'd personally prefer plasma, and 1080p. I'm going to keep this TV and my parents are getting my 58" DLP, so I'd rather get something in the 42-50" range that is of nicer quality, then something big that is a piece of ****.
This is my front runner right now:

So I now have $2,200 to play with, and I get to pick the TV. We're not looking to go more then $2,400, and I'd personally prefer plasma, and 1080p. I'm going to keep this TV and my parents are getting my 58" DLP, so I'd rather get something in the 42-50" range that is of nicer quality, then something big that is a piece of ****.
This is my front runner right now:

Anything else I should look at, or will I be immensely satisfied with that?
Don't get that. Get a Panasonic. And if you don't want one of those, get a Panasonic.
If that doesn't work, get a Panasonic.
Just throwin out some ideas.
Oh, yeah. There's one more brand I'd recommend, but I forgot the name. Crap. Umm... I think it rhymes with Shamnascronic. Maybe someone else here can help with that.

Well, one problem with that is that it's not in stock at a store within 500 miles around me.
So...
What do I do now :(.

Mine did for me. It took a few days, obviously. But they brought one in from another store. Then again, the other store was only 10 miles away. :(
But it's the same concept in theory!

Good luck!

Alright, sounds like that is what I will try and do on Saturday.
If that fails, the Samsung has gotten good reviews so it doesn't sound like I'm downgrading THAT much.
:)
But I'll try to raz them as much as possible for the Panny, as I would prefer not to go Samsung again (not that I dislike their product, but I like to spread the love).

Rock on! Unless someone here disagrees with me, don't go for the store display model if they push that. That sucker was most likely torched in vivid mode. I'd rather they take it out back and end it peacefully than sell it to you.

I haven't seen The Orphanage yet but looking forward to it as it seems to have been given a lot of good reviews... 84% rating on RT.
Decent week for horror, One Missed Call comes out too, I haven't seen that one yet either and it'll be a gamble but I'm pretty freakin' desperate to add some more horror to my collection.

I have a quick question for you guys. I bought Juno on bluray and noticed that it came with a digital transfer disc. Are these going to be standard with dvd releases? I think they're great!! I've always wanted to be able to put my own movies on my Ipod/Iphone without the hassle of finding a program that made it easy to do. Well I always thought it was a hassle anyways. Are there any upcoming releases that will have the digital transfer disc? Thanks for any info you can give.

Universal, welcome aboard.... :D
Universal joining Blu-ray bandwagon in the summer
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Universal Studios, once Hollywood's top backer of the doomed HD DVD video format, will soon release all its new videos on the victorious Blu-ray rival at the same time as its standard DVDs.
The studio is set to announce Thursday that the program will kick off in the summer with the recent box office flop "Doomsday."
Universal's Blu-ray strategy includes plans to release about 40 titles in the second half of the year.
Among them are the studio's five big feature films of the summer, including "The Incredible Hulk," with Edward Norton, William Hurt and Liv Tyler; "Wanted," an action thriller starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie; "Hellboy II: The Golden Army"; "Mamma Mia," the adaptation of the musical starring Meryl Streep; and the sequel "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," with Brendan Fraser and Jet Li.
Universal officially will enter the Blu-ray market July 22 with a trio of films from its "Mummy" action-adventure franchise: "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns," both starring Fraser, and the spinoff "The Scorpion King," with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Also planned for domestic Blu-ray before the year is up are the catalog titles "American Gangster," "Knocked Up," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Miami Vice," "End of Days," "U-571" and "Land of the Dead," among others.
Universal had been HD DVD's biggest studio backer ever since the next-generation optical disc format came to market in April 2006. But when Toshiba pulled the plug on the format in February, the studio wasted no time switching its allegiance to Sony's Blu-ray.

Watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang last night...was a very good movie and it suprised me. Didnt expect much going in but I enjoyed it and it was funny. Robert Downey Jr was very good in it. He is a pretty darn good actor when he isnt being arrested. Fat Val Kilmer playing a *** guy was disturbing but he did a good job in this movie as well.
If you havent seen this movie yet then check it out. You will be suprised!

I had all the Mummy movies on HD DVD as well but I'll buy them again if the audio is better. Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 isn't going to cut it now. Give us TrueHD, PCM or DTS-HD MA.

Glad to see Universal finally jumping into the frey. Where o where is Paramount?? I better be able to get Iron Man on BD when it comes out. I know there are a lot of other big Paramount movies too. Crap.....I better be able to get the new Indy too.
Not too excited about Ghostbusters on BD. I'm not really a fan of older movies being on HD media. I haven't particularly watched one yet, but I'm just assuming that since it wasn't shot on high quality film, the transfer just won't be worthy of the high cost for BD.

Go watch 2001: A Space Odyssey and you'll see how an older movie can look transferred from film to HD when the master is pristine and done properly.

So I watched Blade Runner (theatrical version) last night. Should I even bother watching any of the other versions?
As much as I tried to like it since it was a sci-fi flick and Harrison Ford was in it, I just couldn't. That final chase and fight was just painfully boring and dull to watch. And this movie was a prime example of why voice-over narration sucks.
