would I be making a blunder for the long run if I go ahead now and buy a 720P 26" television instead of a 1080P one?
No. Way to small to notice any difference from 720P to 1080P

I guess its worth a rental. I'll check it out thanks! Been stuck watching The Departed like every night before bed. I have it tivo'd and cant erase it.
I've seen it as well. It is decent for a popcorn flick. Just don't go in expecting much. Anakin still can't act for crap. Fun enough to watch.

Is Harold and Kumar 2 worth getting? Im buying something tomorrow, just dont know what yet.
My wife LOVES the first movie and I thought it was pretty funny. She said the second was is just terrible. She saw it at the theater and said she would have left if she didn't take someone with her.

It got funny with about 20 minutes left in the movie but then with 5 to go became horrible again. Rob Corddry is some gov. agent and he kills every scene he is in. Save money and rent the movie.

Hmm....I might actually end up going the rental route on this one first now. My brother said it was really funny, and I know he and I have the same type of sense of humor, but I dont' know....for $30 it's a hell of a gamble.

Is anyone interested in Earth The Biography on Blu Ray? I received a copy as a gift and have watched it once. It looks great but just really isn't my thing. I'll let it go for $20 delivered via USPS priority or would trade 1 for 1 dependent upon what you have to offer. Please pm or you can email me at whi6106@hotmail.com. Thanks.

OK i'm looking to get a tv but my range is low end 2000 is pushing it. what i like is the sony bravia 46" LCD tv is there anything the same quality as that tv for less money? I'm looking to go the LCD route
PrimeBane

$2000 will get you pleanty of tv Matt and Sony is probably your best bet if you go LCD.
Samsung does use the same panels as Sony, so if the price difference is significant enough it could be a better way to go.
As usual, do the leg work and compare the tvs for yourself at different stores.

Keep your eyes open for a sale. They are always happening. For example....someone just posted not too long ago the 50" plasma that retails fro more then $2k on sale for $1200. I got my Samsung 1080P last year at Best Buy on Black Friday. Regular Price was $2,100.....I got it for $1,350 that weekend. Just keep your eyes open for a great deal...then jump on it.

Watched PS, I Love You on BD last night. Picture quality is decent, but not great. Some scenes look fine, but others look very soft and sometimes the colors look off. Sound was fine, but it is mostly just talking the whole time.
Great movie if you have a wife or GF. You will take one for the team and make her happy and the movie isn't actually terrible for a chick flick. It is actually funny at parts.

Here's my day:
Not 1 **** damn ******ed idiot pissing-me-off store in my area carried Dark City, except FYE got in 1 copy that was sold out by the time I got there (I'm looking at you Oak!).
So, whatever, I special ordered it through FYE ($24.50 with my backstage pass discount) and I'll have it on Friday. I was going to say I'll have to live with the knowledge that Chugga will have Dark City before me, but it looks like I won't have to worry about that.
What was the most ridiculous was that Dark City wasn't even in Best Buy's system. Almost like they're going backward with blu-rays lately.
So aside from that I found and got price-matches on a couple (saved an average of $5 each) on:
Both Harold and Kumars
Doomsday
The Lost Boys
FYE was actually the best, i got my discount and have $12 in mail-in rebates coming. Ended up being much cheaper than Best Buy.

Don't waste your time on Witless Protection!
What an awful movie, I couldn't stay interested at all and I actually liked "Health Inspector" and thought that one was pretty funny.
I only rented it because some of it was filmed up the road from me in Plano and it was cool to see downtown Main St. on screen but that's about it.
Picture quality was also awful - horribly grainy and muted, the worst I've seen yet on BD.

I can't blame them really. Warner has really been lacking in having HD audio on some of it's Blu-ray releases. I can understand some movies like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest not having it but a new movie like Speed Racer with tons of surround sound action is inexcusable. According to the Insiders there like Bill Hunt Warner has gotten the message that we want HD audio on every release and they are working to make that happen.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense for a film like Speed, especially when they shot it with the digital cam. With those cool race sequences, it would have been logical to max out the sound with all those different cars racing around the tracks from left to right, front and center.

Started watching Weeds. Great show. It is really well written and very funny. Can someone tell me how many episodes are in the first season? I'd look it up on Wikipedia, but I'm afraid of glancing at some spoilers.
Theres 10 episodes in season 1. It's a very quick show which can be pretty annoying. You get psyched for it to come back on tv, it does one new main storyline and then it's gone. They've since added more episodes per season but still it's only like 12-15.
It's a great show, I've got the first 3 seasons on Blu-ray, but season 4 has been "ok". It started off interesting enough but has trailed off, likely because **** is about to hit the fan somehow.

Cool, thanks. I'll look forward to picking up seasons 2 and 3 on BD when I get done with this one. It is a Blockbuster Mail rental, so I'll probably do the others that way too. Unless I can find them in the store for super cheap.

Hey guys, need some assistance or advice.
At the All Star Game in NY I entered a contest at the Sharp booth to win an Aquos prize package. Well last night I get an email saying that I have won the prize package that includes a blu-ray player and a surround sound system. The total prize package is worth $3650 which means I'll have to claim it when I file my taxes. There was an attachment to the email with a "Winner Affidavit" which asks for my personal info including my social sec number.
I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this type of scenario. I'm always hesitant when my SSN is asked for. The individual who sent me the email left his phone number and told me that he would connect me with a rep at Sharp if I had any questions considering my SSN is being asked for. I've called him but got his voicemail. So I figured I'd run this across you guys while I get in touch with him. Thanks for the read fellas.

If they plan on filing it with their taxes...they need your SSN...just like any other place that files holdings on your behalf.
But just to be safe, I'd make sure I spoke with a Sharp representative who can be verified.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but Final Fantasy: Advent Children has been announced for release on Blu-ray in Japan. In what could possibly be the best looking Blu-ray ever created (to this day I still haven't seen a better looking DVD) this is a huge announcement.
Apparently the movie is also going to come with a demo for Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3. They also announced a PS3/Advent Children bundle but it's likely going to be exclusive to Japan. I don't know when the movie will be released in America but if there isn't a timeframe this will probably be my first and only import on blu-ray....as it was my first/only import on dvd too.

So I have a nice chunk of change coming in and I'm in the process of updating my home theater.
Round 1, I bought 2 Polk R50's today for the fronts.
My next step is to get a decent subwoofer (sub $300) and a decent receiver (sub $500). I prefer Onkyo for receivers, is the TX-SR606 better then the Sony STRDG820? Both are comparable price wise, and feature set wise, so I think it's better to go with a company I trust (I still don't like Sony, sorry, especially since my PS3 is starting to act up a bit).

Onkyo over the Sony.
Make sure you timbre match your Polks with other polks to get the best sound.
Call Polk and they will tell you what surrounds and Center to get.
My guess would be R15's for the back and maybe the CSI25 for the center
Or
R30's rear and CS1 for center.

Aside from the brilliant and hilarious Wild Hogs placement....I have to say Sony Style is more or less worthless. They never have a blu-ray title on sale, and you can guarantee prices between $25-$30 on all of them.
I know the discs isn't really the purpose of the store, but still, unless you live somewhere where there's no Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Target, FYE (for used discs) or Internet connection, I'd say get your movies elsewhere.

His acting was crappy to be nice.
One review sumed it up perfect:
"The soundtrack doesn't even match the movie. There are suspense sounds at the dumbest times when nothing is happening"
That was one of my biggerst gripes. Horrible.
The score is what killed it for me too. Radiohead (IMO of course) hasn't turned out anything listenable since Ok Computer, and Jonny's venture into scoring films is equally awful. Completely distracting and pulls you out of the film. Daniel Day Lewis is great in the movie, but I think had Anderson cut the run-time down an hour or so I would have been a lot happier with it.

I will agree Daniel Lewis was good but thats about it.
I thought the soundtrack was brilliant. I love movies that go against the grain and don't spoon feed the typical cliche'd Hollywood garbage to you.
Don't you kind of feel like they're going against the grain just to appeal to counter-culture people that all think they're different and unique because they don't like "typical Hollywood garbage"? Just because it's different doesn't necessarily mean its good. It doesn't mean its bad either, and I realize that. Being different just to go against the norm doesn't magically make something great though. All it does is appeal to disenfranchised youth that think they have unique tastes, when in reality the minority they think they're in isn't much of a minority at all.

I really liked TWBB. I knew it was a movie that I had to be in the right frame of mind to watch so I waited a LONG time before watching it. Bought it the day it came out then one night recently it just hit me "I want to see it now" so of course I did. I thought the movie was great, I especially liked the ending, I won't ruin it for anyone but I was rooting for that the whole time.
With that being said I don't think it was better then No Country for Old Men.
Gone Baby Gone should have won best movie last year, followed by No Country for Old Men followed by There Will Be Blood. I still haven't seen a 2007 movie better than Gone Baby Gone.

Most of the older TV's have a SECRET SERVICE MENU you can access throught the remote that will give you things to adjust. But if you do find the code be careful if you have never done it.

Judging by the Academy Awards it was nominated for, no I don't think it appeals just to disenfranchised youth. I don't consider myself in that category either. I'm 31 and have a wide variety of tastes in film. I consider movies like this very interesting, powerful and a pleasure to watch.

The ending was so predictable tho.
I was really tired last night so maybe I just wasnt in the right mood. Maybe in a few months I will try and watch it again.
I agree 100% Gone Baby Gone was a great movie. Better then both NCFOM and TWBB.

In my opinion, the 15 best movies of 2007 were:
Zodiac
The Assassination of Jesse James
There Will Be Blood
No Country for Old Men
Gone Baby Gone
Into the Wild
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Michael Clayton
Once
The Orphanage
The Bourne Ultimatum
Hot Fuzz
Sunshine
Knocked Up
Superbad

On that list I haven't seen.....
Zodiac (waiting for blu-ray)
Into the Wild (waiting for blu-ray)
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (never even heard of it)
Hot Fuzz (waiting on blu-ray)
Of the rest of the list I agree with the vast majority of it. I just didn't really like Knocked Up all that much. It was a good comedy but I thought Superbad killed it.

There are two things that are impossible to deny.
1) The Mr. Hand character is genius......yessssss?
2) Jennifer Connelly is Jennifer Connelly. Although in the director's cut they left her own voice in when she sings Sway in the club. Not the best decision there.

Watched There Will Be Blood last night. That movie doesn't make a lot of sense. Also, I don't like the way it just sort of speeds to the end. DDL was pretty good in the movie, but there just wasn't enough to it for me. The PQ and AQ were really quite awesome though.
I didn't hate it the way Grif did, but I'm glad I don't own it and wouldn't watch it again. Wife totally hated. We both thought the old movie on oil production that was in the extras was probably the best part of the movie.

Well, you might be right about the comparison to Ryan, especially with Spielberg and Hanks behind it, but I thought it was well done for a tv series. And maybe that's the difference for me, as I tend to set the bar a little lower for tv than film. The level of acting and production was impressive for that scale and the stories they were trying to tell.
Only downside was the lack of melons and beaver action :D

To a little speaker talk rather than movies.
I've been looking to upgrade to a 7.1 speaker setup since I got my Sony 720. My current speakers are a set of Energy Take 5.1s that I purchased in 2001. They're a terrific set and have treated me very well, thus I plan to only purchase 2 more speakers.
I stumbled across a couple of Klipsch Reference 52s over the weekend... they were demos and the last pair. $399 plus tax (good deal in Canada). The guy demoed them for me and they did sound pretty awesome for the crappy setup they had... I fought every urge to purchase and went home to do a little digging.
As it turns out, they are really awesome speakers by pretty much all the reviewed them... however, I came across an interesting bit on speaker placement (that I'm embarrassed to say I forgot about :o).
For the best results, front speakers should be placed higher than the seating area.
It was one of those palm to the forehead type moments... I've been all gung-ho to get a snazzy new pair of front towers, when in reality all I really need are a couple more bookshelf type speakers.
Don't get me wrong, towers are pretty awesome and a MUST if you listen to a lot of music on your home theatre. However, my HT is used for movies and gaming only... very rarely do I listen to any tunes.
So rather than ramble, I'll get to the point. Unless you listen to a lot of music, don't bother with tower speakers for the front. Sure they look cool, but you'll probably do just as well with a couple of good compact speakers as fronts. If you do have towers, consider buying stands and elevating them a bit so they're above where you and others will be seated. You should notice a difference right away with any spacial overhead sounds. :)

Korn's Live at Montreaux Blu-ray......what a huge disappointment this is. The DTS-HD MA soundtrack on here is horrible. Absolutely no LFE that I can hear. It sounds like all the sound is coming from my fronts and surrounds with virtually no low bass at all coming from my sub. I'm glad I only paid $16 for this with my Best Buy employee discount. Ugh...

I had shelf speakers on Speaker stands then moved to Towers and noticed a huge improvement with movies. and te Shelf Speakers were high off the ground. To each their own I guess. They also need to be turned in probably 45 deg towards the listening area as well to get best possible sound. I moved my Center from Bottom to Top of TV and that made a World of differnce. I have it pointed downwards toward my listening position. I was having problems picking up things people were saying but no longer.
I think most people's towers are tall enough anyway that when you sit down they are above your ear level.
But you can find some really nice Shelf Speakers out there. Thats for sure.
Also if they do not timbre match that could be another issue.
The high frequency drivers on tower speakers are placed at ear level perfect for seated listening.
I think alot depends on your room as well. Towers will sound better in some rooms and book shelf in others.
