+1... and go 8" bigger like Jaylis said. Unless it has to fit into a particular space, you'll probably regret not going bigger down the road. I know I do.
Not a particular space, but the living room is not that large where we currently are.

you'd be surprised with the actual size of the widescreens if you haven't owned one yet....at least to me a 42" widescreen seems smaller than a 42" 4x3 tube TV....even though tube TVs at that size were extremely rare.
cflames89
08-05-2008, 02:54 PM
I have a 26" or so tube right now.
I know that I could go bigger, but just from seeing them all day at work, and how we would have to setup the living room, I know 42" is probably best right now.
Hell, I was looking at 32" last fall, so I am heading in the right direction.

Big question is, how far back do you plan on watching the set? The general rule to get the best viewing from your HDtv is to sit twice the distance as the size. So if you buy a 42" tv, the best viewing will be at 84" or 7 feet back.
cflames89

Hell, when I got my PS3, it was an open box, just the seal was cracked, everything else was still as is from the factory, and with my discount, added the 3 year service plan on it, and only paid $10 more than retail for just the system.
TV's and wall mounts, yeah, I will be finding a good deal for sure.

So, that's my problem...i've been sitting twice the distance in centimeters. Maybe that's why everything else in the world is blurry.

Still hate the tin, though.

The first has a black background with silver writing.

There are two ways to show only the channels you subscribe to:
1. Subscribe to everything
2. Go through and make a favorites list with all the channels you get.

Do these Panasonic tv's need a lot of tampering with or something? I see a lot of praise for them the last few pages but I've never seen one in a Best Buy or Circuit City that had a decent picture on it. Is it the price or something? I'm looking at getting a new tv as well, but based on what I've seen in the stores the Samsung's and the Sony's had the best picture so I just passed off all the others. What is it that makes the Panasonic the one to choose?

Panasonice Plasma's are top notch. IMHO better then Samsung and Sony's LCD's.
I own a Panasonic Plasma and a Sony LCD and Panasonic is that much better and its 4 years older.
Plasma's have the best picutre over LCD and DLP unless you get into the cheaper plasma's. Thats why Panasonic gets alot of praise.

So I finally watched Dark City last night. And yes it was good, I really liked it. My one and only issue with the film was that the fight scenes look a little like they were done with technology out of the 1970's. I mean I've seen original Star Wars sequences better then that brain battle. But thats not a big deal so all in all yeah it was a great movie.
Also while it did have Jennifer Connelly in it, it wasn't my favorite Jennifer Connelly. I think she grows finer with age and in 1998 she was hot, but she hadn't fully unlocked all of her potential.

I think over the years her face has definitely taken dramatic steps in the right direction.
If there was a cloning machine that only knew how to clone Jennifer Connelly at different times of her life and I could pick to have either mid 90's Jennifer Connelly or mid 00's Jennifer Connelly, I'd go with 00's. This one to be exact: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1745787392/nm0000124

I was 5-8 years old, I didn't care if she had big cheeks. The internet made all of us ridiculously picky, at that time there was no internet so I was fine with her chipmunk face. And we all know how she turned out looking anyways, so my eggs would have been in the right basket.

i've learned two things from this 1. if i didn't buy the open box then i would have known that it didn't work before driving back and finding out the brand new one didn't work either. 2. the BB game dept. probably didn't have the xbox that was using the adaptor set for 1080 or the person who told me it was set up was lying.
i did however watch Transformers on HD-DVD and i noticed during some scenes that it was very grainy and most scenes were just plain awesome is this normal for High Def formats?

I can only take so much Shia in my collection for one thing.
I'm afraid I must agree. He's not too bad in small doses but this kid gets annoying fast. I haven't seen Indy 4 yet, hoping he doesn't spoil it for me. Sadly he's shaping up to be the next big thing in Hollywood (I guess some would say he's already there being in movies like Transformers and Indy).

i've learned two things from this 1. if i didn't buy the open box then i would have known that it didn't work before driving back and finding out the brand new one didn't work either. 2. the BB game dept. probably didn't have the xbox that was using the adaptor set for 1080 or the person who told me it was set up was lying.
i did however watch Transformers on HD-DVD and i noticed during some scenes that it was very grainy and most scenes were just plain awesome is this normal for High Def formats?
Yes you will see grain in HD movies. Watch 300. The director wants it there.

Shia as Tarzan is the only aspect that he ruins. Grif is right about the rest. Indy 4 is terrible, once you get about 30 minutes in.

Children of Men Combo

All discs are in minty shape, and the HD-DVD add on comes with the original box and media remote + all paperwork.
Send me a PM.

I started watching this a couple of weeks ago and am halfway through the 3rd season right now. It really is an addictive show, makes me wish I had Showtime since season four is airing now, but don't want to add it just for one show.

Showtime has a few good shows, I rented the first season of The Brotherhood last year, it was excellent, better than The Sopranos imo. I like that the Weeds episodes are only about 25 minutes each so you can watch 3 or 4 at one sitting fairly easy.

You'd have to put up with my whining too about not being able to get it. I really think now that HD DVD is gone they should start mixing up their case colors. A maroon Iron Man case would look awesome. A green Hulk case would be pretty sick too.

Watched Curse of the Gold Flower last night. Fell asleep. Pretty bad movie. I didnt even know what the movie was about. GF had it in our Netflix que.
Pretty sad movie. I left the Subtitles on and them speaking english. The subtitles I would say 60% of the time DID NOT match what they were saying. Pretty funny. Sometimes they would say something then the subtitles would appear and not even be close. Then the correct ones would appear a little later.
PQ on this BR were amazing tho. So many really brite colors. But I give this movie a 1. GF watched the whole thing and hated it.

Only problem was HD DVD glued their disc together and people had problems. I like the idea of seperate disks. That way the kids can beat up on the standard DVD and not the BR version.

I'm sorta surprised they're going back to that... I know Paramount/Dreamworks tried something similar with Shrek when it first came out. You got the WS version on one disk and the FS version on another. I always figured the smarter consumers bought one copy for two families.

I should have my PS3 set to decode via linear PCM now, correct? And the Dolby, DTS, etc. lights should never light up on the receiver, just "multi channel PCM", correct?

Yeah $30 a movie is just nuts. Most of the time the transfers have not been that good to warrant $30 anyway.
Biggest reason I went with Netflix. Nothing IMO worth buying on BR right now. Well maybe 2 titles.

The last movie I think I rented was Pirates 2: Dead Man's Chest and I was SO disappointed with the skipping.
I remember taking it back that evening and the clerk said next time ask to have the disc "buffed" on their little machine on the back counter. It's supposed to remove/smooth out any scratches on the surface. She told me it takes about 10 minutes to buffer out.

LOL thats all you want to do is run to the store to buff out your movie. LOL. The whole purpose of ordering online is NOT to go running around wasting gas.

Some of the Blockbuster programs (There are like 7) allow you to exchange mail rentals for in-store movies. Usually it isn't to swap a bad disc for a good one, but to actually get a different movie.
I see no reason why you couldn't swap your bad one for a good one at the stroe, but it would count as a swap, which are limited on some of those 7 accounts.
As a side note, I discovered something interesting awhile ago. Apparnetly studios lease movies to Blockbuster now, the store doesn't have to buy all 200 copies you see of a new release.
For example, I was in there one day and they had about 150 copies of Juno sitting there. I asked to buy one and he said they couldn't sell it since they were sending them back to the studio. He said for big releases the studio sends them copies and then Blockbuster just pays a royalty on the rentals. After a certain period, they send them back.
The real kicker is they just destroy them!!! He was cutting each DVD to the center, so it wouldn't play. The studio just gets them, counts them to make sure they go all the copies, and trashes them. A total waste and I assume rather costly.

I think they just started doing this (at least in Canada)... too many people were buying "previously viewed" movies for cheap thus cutting into the studios new release profits.

That's interesting...I can't believe they have those discs destroyed after a period of time. That can't be good for the environment long term, considering the number of films that get released...sheeesh.
It sounds a lot like the publishing business. I was in my local Hastings book store one day and noticed the stock guy and his plastic bins of magazines. I asked him what do they do with previous month's issues and he told me they are all destroyed by them and returned back to the publisher. He said they normally tear the cover off!

It's sadly a very common practice for studios... they end up destroying a pile of DVDs not only from rentals, but from retail stores as well. They'll way overproduce a new movie as DVD replication is sooooo dirt cheap now and they don't want to run out of product in any store.

That's a crazy method of doing things...what a waste to the environment. Course I imagine they must also practice this with toys too. I'm thinking of McFarlane's toys here. I collect on occasion some of his lines and always wondered what they do with all of those peg warmers.
