Luke Cage....Marvels first black superhero to get his own comic book. But more importantly one of Marvel's newest movie projects. John Singleton is supposedly directing the Luke Cage movie, and his backstory could actually make for a hell of a movie so who knows.

It could be badazz. Seeing as how Cage grew up as a gang member in Harlem. If they made it with a gritty BITH style...it'd be awesome.

Unfortunately.....it won't be. MARVEL will insist upon a PG rating...eliminating the cool gang grittyness......and they have already casted Tyrese....which eliminates any acting ability whatsoever.

Decided to upgrade my subwoofer, was using a 10" Yamaha with 250 watts. Picked up a Pinnacle Digital subwoofer, it's got 2 12's and 600 watts. Got it for a little under $400.

Also, watched Street Kings last night, I thought it was very good, not sure why it got such bad reviews.

Though there aren't many details, this still seems like a much better idea than Seth Rogan as Green Lantern.

Well I just like the idea of the movie because Luke Cage really isn't much of a superhero. They could keep the story very grounded in a very gritty reality and then just toss in absolutely awesome fight scenes after he gets his powers. Sure he can lift just about anything, and knives/bullets/etc don't affect him but he doesn't have alot of the gimmick powers alot of other Marvel/DC movie characters have. He can't fly, the US Army doesn't want him dead at all costs, he doesn't shoot webbing, no x-ray vision, no awesome detective skills or impressive utility belt, none of that. Just a random guy walking the streets that can lift a building and can't be shot or stabbed.

I agree that if done correctly, it can be a good story. The character will have to be written with a lot of depth though, or else it will fail.

Also, sounds more interesting than the Thor movie that is supposedly happening. I can't see how they plan to make Thor really interesting. He just doesn't have big movie appeal to me.

Is there any word on the next Hulk movie? I heard throughout that Ed Norton was irritated with it and he isn't signed for the next one. Personally, I thought it was enjoyable and would like to see a sequel. I think it made enough money in the theaters ($134 mil in the US/$253 mil worldwide) to justify one.

I haven't seen Iron Man, Hulk, or Hellboy yet (waiting for the Blu-rays) so I can't comment on those movies even though I'm a huge Hulk fan and want to see that movie soooooo bad.

As for Thor I completely agree. He's a badass comic book character but a terribly boring person overall. Theres a reason that in the animated flicks they just have him randomly give a line or 2 until it's time to fight. His fights could be amazing. But telling the backstory actually wanting to care about him as a character? Not going to happen.

Then to make matters worse aside from Loki I can't think of a interesting enough villain for him to fight that wouldn't be a total whooping. Hopefully they just use the movie to set up his appearence in the Avengers movie because Thor just can't be a franchise, it's not possible. God's don't make for good heroes since you never feel as if they can lose. Spiderman fights a guy on a surf board and almost gets half of his face blown off.....Thor could fight every single spiderman villain all at the same time and win in a matter of seconds.

I think in total it's made roughly the same as the first one, so the momentum has slowed quite a bit for any future sequel development.

For me, I've seen every Marvel movie released since Blade and that god awful Elektra, but I was so disappointed in Hulk that the aftertaste in my mouth was enough to make me miss Incredible Hulk in theaters.

I may check it out on rental.

You realize that you have missed 3 fantastic movies this summer, right? I think Captain America has a ton of potential, but I'm not optimistic that Marvel won't screw that up.

It is easily worth a rental. I saw it in the theater and was pleasantly surprised. It is better than I thought it would be. Not as good as TDK or Iron Man, but on what you would think of as the next tier of Superhero movies.

Ah ok...that's reassuring to know I won't be wasting my 2 hours at home.

I'm thinking that they should just let the franchise sit for a while...maybe 15 years before meddling around with another Hulk movie. It worked for Batman and who would have thought that there would be life after Batman & Robin.

Even Superman...I read this morning that the studio is talking about rebooting the franchise in a darker tone due to the success of TDK. This will easily flop or perform just as well as Returns because...again...it's too short of a time frame and people are still not over the last anti-climatic Singer Supes.

Ewww the BST board do we really have to go there? Then instead of talking about movie releases everyone will be too busy hitting each other up with op's and then people will post messages like.....

"oh man that oaktown is such a piece of **** loser I hope he dies........."

and then you click on the thread and it will say

".........for sending me all of this free stuff!!!! you're the man oaktown!!! thanks dude!"

Do we really want that.

Any idea on what could be holding off the transfer? I mean, he's already got a firm grasp of the technology of blu with Indy 4's upcoming release. As for the bonus content, the existing documentaries should suffice. And obviously Blu has won the hd war, which I know was one of their justifications for holding off.

Perhaps it's just timing like grif said...maybe a 35th or (gulp) 40th anniversary date?

I was on vacation last week, so if this was already mentioned I'm sorry, but I thought everyone here would want to know if they are Best Buy Reward Zone members. Evidently there was a promotion running from 5/11 to 8/9 where you would get $5 in reward zone coupons for every 3 cd/dvd/br's you bought. They didn't have to be on the same receipt either, but for whatever reason they didn't track this properly and no one was getting credit for it.

I signed on to the Reward Zone website late last night, clicked the "Contact Us" link, and sent them an email stating I hadn't received my rewards, and by 8am I had already gotten an email back from them apologizing, and letting me know I'll be credited my $30 in rewards within two weeks.

I was skeptical when I read about this on the hi-def boards, but its definitely legit. With the way some of you guys buy media, you could get some serious money back. Just thought everyone would want to know...

Ok I have to come clean and tell you guys I watched Definitely, Maybe and I enjoyed it. Ok I feel better thats off my chest now..

Anyway what ONE movie (chic flick, romantic or whatever) film have you seen that you are kinda ashamed you really enjoyed.

Mine would have to be On Golden Pond. Probably one of my all time favorites.

Dont be shy tell us your sappy movie that you just love.

Spanglish... not sure how much of a chick flick that is considering Sandler is in it but yeah, sad movie.

Fantasia, Snow White and Three Other Disney Classics Blu-ray Bound
August 26, 2008
An article published today in the Wall Street Journal reveals Disney's Platinum Blu-ray Disc plans for the next two years.

A source at Disney has disclosed Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 and Beauty and the Beast are being prepped for Platinum Blu-ray treatments within the next two years.

Previously Disney had only committed to Sleeping Beauty on October 7 of this year. The move is designed to spur additional interest in Blu-ray with classic franchises sooner rather than later.

Disney will pack the five additional titles with features set to appear on Sleeping Beauty such as BD-Live and BD-J. "BD Live is not a niche product," stated Bob Chapek, president of Disney’s home entertainment unit. "We see mass adoption of the technology."

If spaced out evenly, the second Platinum title should arrived sometime next spring.

it was very easy. I just signed up with the same information as my old account except I used my gmail address instead of my yahoo address.

I checked my account and I wasn't charged for the prime service, it shows my trial ends Nov. 26, and I went in and changed the option so it doesn't automatically renew at the end of the trial. Checked my account also to make sure I didn't accidentally buy those textbooks, and it seems to be all clear.

Went and ordered Afro Samurai and re-reserved the Kill Bill movies, then canceled them on my other account order. T

This'll save me quite a bit between now and Thanksgiving.

What a weak list. GT5 is good, but not that great a deal. BA2 no one is interested in. The wheel is a great pickup if you really love driving games and it is a good price. Most people with a PS3 already own R&C, Uncharted, and DMC. Haze is terrible for more than $5.

Guys, a general question about Blu Ray. When you go into a Best Buy or something and they have their Blu Ray demo on it looks very unreal. LIke when they show Pirates of the Carribean it seems as if Jack Sparrow is right there. It doesn't even look like a movie. So I figure this Blu Ray is really different. So I get a PS3 and upgrade to a 1080p 62" TV....HDMI cords and all. But when I pop in a Blu Ray I don't get that same "Best Buy" picture. Am I doing something wrong? It still looks good and all, but it wasn't what I saw in the store. Any suggestions?

JaylisJayP

Plus they have all the TV's in torch mode as well.

This, and they tend to set up "demo" footage of specially-tailored video to make it look ultra-realistic...i wouldn't be surprised if they had a specific one for the Pirates demo that was separate from the actual blu-ray movie itself...unless what you saw was the movie itself playing.

There are many different factors, the size of the TV, the technology (LCD, Plasma, etc..), the brand, the lighting in the building -- they all contribute to make the picture look different.

I do have to say, though, that you can replicate that "looking through a window" experience with high-def. at home, I've seen it on both of my TV's. Most notably for me is the first minute or so of King Kong on HD DVD.

Yeah imagine how crazy the end of this year looks to a guy who never bought into HD DVD.

On Sept 30th I like those same 3, but then add in Knocked Up and 40 Year Old Virgin

October 21st isn't too bad....but the lead in week has American Gangster, Eastern Promises, Indiana Jones, and the Ultimate Matrix Collection. For HD DVD fans, thats only 1 movie.

So feel bad for me for not buying HD DVD....if this thread ever moves to the BST board I expect an OP where everyone chips in $50 to help pay for my movies for the rest of the year, and in return I'll make a thank you thread where I use an excessive amount of smiley's next to everyones name and refer to you and your family by their real names.

Well....."by everyone".....I mean the $2.37 ewto had contributed.

I could have used that money yesterday when the damn Heroes boxed sets came out.

Oh on an unrelated note I watched "What Happens in Vegas" and "Redbelt" last yesterday and Redbelt is an awesome movie. What Happens in Vegas was funny, but suffers from the same problem alot of comedies have now-a-days. 99% of the funniest stuff in the movie is in the trailer.

But definitely go out and at least rent Redbelt.

You could always save money and buy them on HD DVD instead ;)

I got 21 and The Bank Job from Netflix today. Cant wait to watch them! Any opinions on the movies (no spoilers) before I watch them?

21 - Decent movie, but really the entire movie is ruined in the previews. If you've seen the trailer you've seen the vast majority of the movie. 7/10 from me

Bank Job - Good movie. It's a tad bit predictable, gets a little slow come the middle of the movie but I think ends really well. I'll give it 8.25/10

What is Redbelt...action, drama?

Not a ton of action. Even though it's marketed as an MMA movie (and definitely is) it doesn't carry the amount of actual fighting you'd expect out of a fighting movie. It leans about 90/10 drama/action. Theres only 2-3 fight scenes in the entire movie, lots of sparring and small stuff like that, but the story drives the fighting, the fighting doesn't drive the story.

At the end of the movie you'll be more moved and impressed with the story itself then any of the MMA that happens in the movie at all.

It's like the exact opposite of "Never Back Down".

May be by now, but it wasn't then. I was on there the minute it was available, and watched the number sold increased, but it would always time out and give me an error message. Oh well, Force Unleashed is out in a couple weeks, and if someone would get around to finishing Lost, I'd have me some Bioshock to play!

With how long it takes me to finish games I start, I'm better off just shipping you Bioshock!

What tv do you have? (brand and model number)

You might have been watching one of those 120Hz LCDs... the picture looks unreal, but the motion looks like crap (IMO)

Its the 120hz tv's. I dont care for them.

Good for sports but not for movies.

I have seen this demo at BB too and yes it does look amazing
Looking at it, it did not appear to be from the movie itself but a special demo JJP references which does well to show close ups of faces and pick up every detail and such... I cannot say for sure as I have never seen and have no desire to see any of the Pirates movies

how can motion look like crap as PB says but be good for movies and not sports as grif says .... seems a bit contradictory

Man, I just looked through the current release list through the end of the year, and I can't believe how many good movies are coming to the format.

I think Oct. 21 is going to be the worst for me with:

The Incredible Hulk
From Dusk Till Dawn
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters 2
-- And there's the 6 Bond movies, which I may just hold off on and hope to get as a holiday gift.

Sept. 30 is a crazy release day, too....luckily I have most of the movies on HD DVD already, but I'll still be getting at least:

Iron Man
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Can't Hardly Wait

what about November?

Hellboy 2
Kung Fu Panda
Wall•E
Universal Soldier

Throwing up a few pics of the new basement where the new (and improved :D) home theatre will be. Gotta love wood panelling... *shudder* It's gotta go.

I fully expect to spend $75,000.00 on construction of this home theatre.

Just kidding.

Everything done will be on a budget and it's going to take a while since I'll be doing almost everything myself in my spare time to save $$$.

The funny thing is, I can't be too sure but it all looks BRAND NEW. I was unaware you could even still buy wood panelling, or why a person would. Somebody recently told me wood panelling is coming back in style... if that is true then may god have mercy on us all.

To save cash I might try doing some priming and painting on it first instead of tearing it out for drywall and see how that looks.

Probably with the same one I had before.... Optoma HD70, but I'd like to find out more about that affordable 1080p Sanyo coming out you posted a while back. Any thoughts on when the msrp might be revealed or when it will be released? Costco has a really good deal for that Optoma now, and you get a free screen to boot but it's only 92".

Yeah, I have an estimate for carpet coming tomorrow. I guessed about 800-900 sq feet and the guy said it'll probably cost about $3000 for the carpet I want, but won't know for sure until tomorrow.

I just checked on the Sanyo... MSRP is going to be $1995 US. That's not as good as I hoped, but still pretty damn good for a 1080p projector at this point in time.

Here's the press release:

- The PLV-Z700 is a Full HD LCD projector providing 1080p resolution for today's highest definition sources and a $1995 price for a new benchmark in projector value - The industry's most versatile lens-shifting system allows placement of the projector virtually anywhere

CHATSWORTH, Calif., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- SANYO, one of the world's largest manufacturers of LCD and DLP presentation systems introduces a new Full HD LCD projector for popular residential applications, such as home theaters and media rooms. While the PLV-Z700 is SANYO's entry-level projector it is equipped with a state-of-the-art Full 1080p HD 3LCD panel, the most advanced lens-shifting technology in the industry, a new variable iris, and SANYO's 3D color management system. The PLV-Z700 will be shipping in October 2008 with a MSRP of only $1,995.00.

"Our entry-level Full HD projector addresses the increased interest in projection systems for home-based entertainment systems due to the rapid growth of high resolution material, from Blu-ray discs, HD game consoles and digital camcorders," says Mark Holt, the Vice President and General Manager for SANYO's Presentation Technologies Division. "SANYO recognizes this trend toward affordable higher quality video and the PLV-Z700 is capable of projecting large, beautiful images anywhere and now for more Americans."

The PLV-Z700 is one of SANYO's least expensive projectors designed for residential installations, offering a Full HD panel providing 1920 x 1080 resolution from high definition sources such as Blu-ray discs, HD camcorders, a wide variety of video on-demand services plus paid TV services from cable and satellite companies, in addition to terrestrial-based HD broadcasts.

Outfitted with an extremely versatile lens-shifting function, the PLV-Z700 can effectively adjust the equivalent of 3 screens vertically and 2 screens horizontally. Combined with the 2x zoom, which allows for an extremely long or short focus, it is possible to create a large screen projection virtually anywhere, even in small rooms such as dens or bedrooms.

The new variable iris offers rapid adjustments that control the amount of light projected on the screen every 1/60th of a second. By permitting ultra, fast-acting lens adjustment, the PLV-Z700 is capable of providing the most optimal light level at all times. Factor in a high contrast ratio of 10,000:1, along with the more advanced variable iris; this projector is capable of creating incredibly rich, and deep black color reproduction. The iris noise has been reduced to ensure greater enjoyment and cinematic-like immersion in quiet or silent scenes of a movie.

The PLV-Z700 also incorporates SANYO's 3D color management system that address changes in color phase and color level to obtain perfect color reproduction. This new color management system was designed to optimize the potential of Deep Color via the projectors two HDMI 1.3 inputs. Other features include an electronic shutter that protects the lens from dust when not in use
and a whisper quiet fan, rated at only 21dB. Five video modes (Brilliant Cinema/Creative Cinema/Natural/Living/Dynamic) provide pre-calibration for various genres of video material.

I said it was good for sports and not for movies. Not vise versa like you stated above.

It helps get rid of some of the terrbile motion blur for sports. Doesnt elminate it but helps.

For movies it makes it look like video and not film.

It has received good reviews on their site but I could never get mine to stay in place. For me it would always tilt down over time no matter how tight everything was. The materials seemed really cheap too but for that price it might be worth trying if your projector isn't too heavy.

The one I replaced it with was a Mustang which was built solid, never had any problems. I think it was this one.

It's a her....and no I do not. However....my wife certainly does. She has a fancy pink themed carrier bag. I just throw her over my shoulder if I have to carry her for some reason.

IceRat I think you missed what I wrote.

I said it was good for sports and not for movies. Not vise versa like you stated above.

It helps get rid of some of the terrbile motion blur for sports. Doesnt elminate it but helps.

For movies it makes it look like video and not film.

Good article that will help describe 120 hz

Basically like I was stating good for sports (sorta) and not so for movies IMO

What tv do you have? (brand and model number)

You might have been watching one of those 120Hz LCDs... the picture looks unreal, but the motion looks like crap (IMO)

Posted from Avsforums and how I feel about 120Hz

"Yeah you should just head down and see themfor yourself... I could not see any discernible difference between a fast 60 hz set and a 120 hz set. However, the 120 hz sets come with Image smoothing/ anti-judder technology like AutoMotionPlus etc... And when thats activated, the picture changes. Some people love it and cannot live without it, while I hate it. For me, AMP is only tolerable for CGI movies like Cars. Everything else looks like sped-up pre-production handycam home video.

The truth is, 120 hz sets are better at handling motion. This is noticeable in stock tickers or fast sports like soccer. Whether the difference is worth the extra money is upto you. I will say this, when you do watch the televisions at the store, don't use the televisions demo for 120 hz. Instead, watch an HD source or HD channel such as a news station or sports and see how it looks and then go see how the 60 hz looks. I couldn't really tell that much of a difference. "

Watching Sports on LCD's is tough for me because of the Motion blur but with the 120Hz TV's it makes it a little easier.

Watching a BR at CC the other day and it just seemed "Fake" watching it to me.

Crazy collection. Anything 1/4 you don't have? (Other than LOD) ;)

LOD is my favorite piece right now. The small details they added to him are just ridiculous and surpass any other PF I own. Can't say I'm a fan of the movie but the baddassessness...es cannot be denied once seen in person.

I've seen your collection before, are you a member of Statue Forum? I might have seen them at Sideshow Collectors but I barely ever go there. If that's a Norwich Terrier they're awesome dogs. I used to have one but we had to put her down last year. :(

Edit - Oh yeah, and that Hulk PF sucks. You should probably sell him for cost + shipping because he's bringing down the rest of your collection. ;)

If you get that one I'd be curious if it works well. I'd rather pay that price over the prices pretty much everywhere else.

Carpet estimate came back at 855 square feet not including the extra for the seating if I do that. Ouch man, ouch.

Well well well, I took a look at a new TV at work (Best Buy) tonight......60" Pioneer plasma PDP-6020FD - Retail price: $5,499.99 - My price.......$3,698.97  What are your thoughts on plasma's in general? I read a review for this here - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1027097 (PDF reply #2) - Sounds like it's an amazing unit. Weird thing though.....it doesn't have customizable settings for video, only presets. Apparently the Movie mode is the best.

There isn't a better tv on the market IMO. Plasmas kick all sorts of ass on any LCD or DLP on the market. Better more natural colors, better viewing angles, no 120Hz BS.

Plus I believe this is that last series of Pioneers that use Pioneer panels... it's Panny panels with all the new models. Not that that's a bad thing, but the Pioneer panels are just that good.

Robert A Harris' review

A few words about...™ Kill Bill: Volumes 1 & 2 -- in Blu-ray

After Gangs of New York being revisited by Disney on Blu-ray, I was concerned about what might occur with Mr. Tarantino's Kill Bill epic.

After screening them this evening, I can tell you that I need not have been.

The two Kill Bills have been meticulously brought to Blu-ray, with color, densities and black & white images intact, and with a resounding soundtrack ready to clean the lint from one's speakers (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/ht-software-high-definition/275926-few-words-about-kill-bill-volumes-1-2-blu-ray.html#).

Whether there may have been a bit of digital image manipulation I cannot be certain, but what I can report as an absolute is that the films on Blu-ray, enlarged to 100"+, reproduce the textures as viewed in the cinema. There should be no reason to nit-pick here.

This is brilliant filmmaking, with superbly reproduced imagery and uncompressed audio delivered via the Blu-ray system. The release should make every home theater (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/ht-software-high-definition/275926-few-words-about-kill-bill-volumes-1-2-blu-ray.html#) aficionado thrilled to add them to a quality film library.

If I have any gripe with Disney, it is that they still refuse to acknowledge the production date of their films, even as a part of copyright. All that we are offered is "2008 Blu-ray Release." For the record they were released in 2003 and 2004.

For educational and historical accuracy it would be nice if the public had easy access to this information.

For anyone with a love of the cinema, Kill Bill: Volumes 1 & 2 should be a required viewing.

Disney has come through with extremely high quality software (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/ht-software-high-definition/275926-few-words-about-kill-bill-volumes-1-2-blu-ray.html#) that makes Blu-ray shine as it should.

Highly Recommended.
