Would you happen to know which HDMI cable to use for the PS3? I ordered one from the site and it was the wrong one.

On 8/27/2006, I apparently ordered 2 of these for my PS3 and DVD player. They work great.

2219 HDMI to HDMI Cable (24AWG) w/ net jacket- 6ft (Gold Plated) (N)

If ordering now, I would order these ones.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10243&cs_id=1024003&p_id=3991&seq=1&format=2

Hope that helps.

Wrong HDMI cable? I'd like to hear the story on that. :)

Starts off that I'm hi-def illiterate and asked for a suggestion in this thread for a PS3 HDMI cable. Took the link, didn't research and ordered one. Mail came in and ended up that it was the wrong one.

I sold it to my IT guy for $10 so no big loss.

But yeah, I need to get up to date with this stuff. My manhood depends on it.

I think his point is an HDMI cable is an HDMI cable. There can't be a WRONG one... So he was wondering what happened. :)

(Unless like the LENGTH was wrong and it didn't reach.)

Yeah, but didn't you get it for free?

I got the $10 rebate with my PS3 back when the PS3 came with an enormous book of $10 off BD coupons.

I probably got Chicken Little back in a BOGO sale, so I didn't end up spending more than a few bucks on it.

Besides, I'll need it for when Grif comes to visit and can't sleep. :D:D:D:D

Yeah, I think this is a pretty big deal and a rather huge oversight on the part of WB, but I'm not sure anyone else cares. Stuff like this drives me batty and sadly, there is usually no resolution to it.

Regardless, it is false advertising.

You mean it was a M / F HDMI extension cable? Or it was an HDMI to DVI cable? Or something else entirely?

And who recommended it so we can flog them?

These masks appear to come in some sort of clear sleeve which would allow it to stand the mask vertically like a regular DVD.

You can see approximately 75% of the mask behind the clear plastic with only about a quarter obscured by a stripe on the left hand side.

Blue stripe with Gold / White lettering is for Blu-Ray Ultimate Edition

Black stripe with Gold lettering is for 2 Disc Standard DVD Collector's Edition.

also has additional bonus footage (not specified)

I'm a little concerned about Iron Man from Tower. Mine says it shipped today, but we'll wait and see when it gets here. My reason for concern is that if you go to order it now they've changed it back to a preorder, and after surfing through shipping policies they say that standard, expedited, and priority could take as much as 21 days. Sounds like they may be covering their asses. Mine says it shipped today, but we'll see if it gets here in the 2-3 days that priority should take, and what I payed for, or if they exercise their "please allow 21 days" policy. As for where they ship from it looks like they only have spots in Miami, California, and Toronto according to their site. Oh well. Time will tell.

Yeah, and my priority order said 2-3 days, but then if you do a little digging and look at their policies you'll find this....

Standard, Expedited & Priority Services

For all three services we will allow up to the following delivery times from the original shipment date:

21 business days for orders placed within the Continental U.S
30 business days for packages shipped to Alaska, Hawaii, a US territory, Canada or a Military address (APO/FPO)*
30 business days for international shipments.

Don't know if it's a policy change or an accident or what. But Amazon listed 5 new Blu-ray movies to pre-order. Dodgeball, The Third Man, X Files: I Want to Believe, Super Troopers, and Step Brothers.

Amazon is only giving 25% off the MSRP. Not the previous minimum standard of 30% (And often 33%).

Congrats to you...and just to keep it real here...make sure you get a pre-nup if you make a decent amount of money. Two things will happen...

1.) You ask for it...and she gets upset with you. Meaning she values your money that much that she wants the satisfaction of knowing she's entitled to half should anything go wrong.

2.) You ask for it...and she complies. Meaning she doesn't care about your money and she only wants your companionship...nothing more.

There is also the trust factor to speak of - from both sides. Do you trust your wife enough not to need one? Does she think you don't trust her by asking, and does that alone play into her reaction to being asked? You make some good points, but I don't know if it's as black and white as you paint it there.

It's solid, practical advice for a man today who's making a good living for himself. Plus, it will reveal how solid your relationship truly is, much less test the foundation of what you two value the most.

Bummer. Sorry to hear that. Sounds like it didn't turn out so well for you. I don't wish the circumstances of divorce/seperation on anyone. Never fun.

There is also the trust factor to speak of - from both sides. Do you trust your wife enough not to need one? Does she think you don't trust her by asking, and does that alone play into her reaction to being asked? You make some good points, but I don't know if it's as black and white as you paint it there.

This leads into the whole discussion of whether you think that someone is entitled to half (or more) of everything just because they married you. You see/read about cases all the time where the man/woman gets a divorce and the woman gets a huge settlement.

My stance is the couple is entitled to split everything from the marriage 50/50. You got the stuff from the marriage as a couple, so it should be split between the two of you. My personal belief is that assets aquired pre/post marriage should not be part of any divorce.

These women that marry these really rich guys (Paul McCartney's ex) and then get these huge settlements sickens me. Why does being married to him for like 3 years entitle her to 1/3 of his overall wealth?

My advice is only for men who make a good living that is above their means.

If you met one another before you made a name for yourself and she was there from the beginning, then perhaps that's where your "trust" issue is a given.

I'm referring to meeting someone after that fact. It's not a comfortable topic, but if you two are serious about getting married, then you have to protect yourself.

It's really no different than buying fire insurance for your home. You ASSUME you'll never see your home catch fire, but just in case of such an event, you want some assurance your assets are protected.

Same thing with a divorce. You ASSUME you'll ever see your relationship go down in a flaming pit of fire, but just in case of such an event, you want some assurance your assets are protected.

It is black and white...it's your wang/heart that makes it complicated.

Looks like I'll miss picking up the Godfather trilogy but I'll get caught up eventually. :D Love you guys. See you when I get back. :D

No problemo my amigo...I've actually have never been divorced. :)

It was a case of where I proposed the pre-nup and she was so insulted by such a topic that she literally left me that day. If she was willing to walk out after 2 years than maybe it was for the better...certainly telling of what she wanted out of "us".

80% of the people I know have been divorced at least once. That's too high of a risk for me to take a chance on my money.

Hmmmm...like you said, maybe that was for the better. If she was willing to walk after 2 years that day and that easily, it does seem pretty telling. She might have been insulted in some way, but if she really loved you, I don't think she would leave just like that.

I've not been in that situation, given the length of my relationship and the fact that I must not make as much money as you. In my case, I'd be happy to give her half of the family debt, as it would be twice the assets. :p

I would assume that customers will just start migrating to a different site that has them then. I know personally, I don't really care where I order them from as long as it seems like a reputable store.

Wherever is cheapest is going ot get my business if I'm really concerned about price.

Dude watch out getting married at all. I married a girl that was basically like me, from a poor family and home, and we knew we had to work hard to get the things we wanted. Well that was 25 years ago. As of May 14th when she got her $13,000 dollar raise, guess what happened. Thats right she up and took off, went to stay with her sister for weeks, got herself a $850.00 a month apartment. And took her income and switched banks, and all this was before I found out she had jacked one of my credit cards and ran it up over $3000. And now shes wanting to sell the house out from under me (because I cannot afford it by myself) And filed for divorce and all the things that go with it, she has already come into the house and taken what she wanted when I was gone. So be careful, I lived a Quarter of a century with this woman and I never had a clue she would up and do this. Sorry to be so negative, but in her doing this she has basically left me for dead, and she does not care. And I stuck with her thru her cancer treatments when I could have easily bailed. From Engadget:

We want to say that it has begun, but we're still thinking it's a touch early to suggest the $200 barrier is collapsing before our very eyes. Not even 24 hours after Sony's BDP-S300 fell to under $200 at Amazon, Samsung's respectable BD-P1500 has now done the same over at RadioShack. The $299.99 player becomes $199.99 instantly when added to one's cart, and according to the promotional fine print, the additional $100 off will be valid until September 27th. The real question is: will the "sale" be extended?

Also I watched the Mist in black and white today and it was actually better imho. I guess it's not surprising though, apparently the director wanted it released in black & white but didn't think it would get enough commercial success that way.

It's also $61.86 at Wal-Mart.com

I love me some Godfather but not sure I want to spend that much on movies that are not eye candy enough for blu treatment. Guess I'll have to wait and see what people think about the PQ quality.

On a side note, I picked up Kill Bill 1 and 2 this week. Part 1 is as awesome as it gets for blu, amazing AQ and PQ was overall very solid. Part 2 I kinda fell asleep at the end last night but I'll re-watch it soon. I was surprised the Pai Mei flashbacks were not grainy as I thought it would be.

Considering the latest announcements of price decreases in certain players, I imagine pricing points will start to drop over the next year.

I noticed Predator finally dropped in price to $14.95 at my local Target which aside from the lack of any features, is a reasonable price.

THEY JUST RECALLED EVERY COPY OF IRON MAN ON BLU RAY! They issued a memo that no store is to put it out.

http://www.tower.com/iron-man-robert-downey-blu-ray/wapi/112399458
Availability: This item is no longer for sale on Tower.com.

That’s Best Buy’s link to an “Iron Man” search. They removed the entire entry for Iron Man on Blu-ray.

Amazon is sending this out:
Hello from Amazon.ca.

We wanted to let you know there's a delay with one or more items in the order you placed on September 18 2008 05:19 PDT (Order# XXXXXXXXXXXX).

"Iron Man [Blu-ray]" [DVD]
Estimated ship date: 22/10/08 - 05/11/08

Apparently it won’t play on any standalone Blu-ray player. Some PS3 reviewers said it played fine, it's just that it takes over a minute to load (which IS a long time). Some PS3 reviewers said it skipped the whole time.

So, it was supposed to come out next Tuesday (week from today). I ordered it from Tower.com because it was like $2 cheaper than Amazon.com.

It’s officially the most expensive Blu-ray I’ve ever bought at $25.86 (until The Dark Knight). But Iron Man’s so worth it.

Amazon would have shipped next Monday (day before release). TOWER ALREADY SHIPPED.

So if I DO get it… Send it back? Or eBay that very rare bad boy?

Some reviewers are reporting they got a new copy in the mail (standalone disc in a clear jewel case), and the new copy works just fine. I wonder how long it will take to repress the movie in mass quantity and put them in actual Iron Man cases.

From hdaddicts.com forum

We have found that a portion of the Blu-ray disc for Iron Man may not play on certain blu-ray set top players due to differences in manufacturers’ specs.

To ensure the consumer received the best possible blu-ray experience, Paramount has decided to replace the current Iron Man blu-ray product.

The current blu ray sku in your system will replaced with a new number. Your head office will ensure that the product ordered for you customers will be re shipped to your branch.

At this point in time, I cannot confirm the exact delivery date for your product.

Geez...please don't let ******s right about technology. Aside from the HD DVD gaffe..he's not even right about blu-ray players. He says the cheapest out right now are $400. In reality, they're in the $200-$300 range.

Im debating investing in Blu Ray just for the Godfather Restoration.

I was on the fence about this for quite a while, but from what I'm reading and seeing, much of the blu-ray presentation is "jaw dropping"...not for the "eye candy" that Dahuntermanny said he was looking for, but for how the films were supposed to look. They'll likely never get closer to the "theater" experience than what they look and sound like right now on blu-ray.

And that's just as impressive a presentation as what Pirates of the Caribbean looks like in terms of depth and detail. The benefits of blu-ray is not all about "eye candy."

From Digital Bits:

Second, and more importantly, it appears that there's been a problem with Paramount's Iron Man Blu-ray Disc. We're getting reports from many retailers that the discs have been recalled, and they've had to ship back their stock. Apparently, there are issues with Disc One playing properly on select Sony Blu-ray player models. Indeed, not long after I received my review disc, I also received a "fixed" replacement copy of Disc One. The title is still set to street on 9/30 and we're currently hearing that fixed discs WILL be shipped to retailers in time to meet street date, so there should be no problems with the disc when you purchase it next week. We also suspect that if any bad discs do manage to hit store shelves on street date, a replacement program will be available for those consumers who need it. We've got inquiries into the studio on all this, so we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything official.

saves me the hassle of having to cancel... I'd much rather pick it up at retail now on street since it will be quicker to get it this way

I see per above digitalbits reporting retailers will have corrected copies on street but with something like the special packaging for Target I doubt they did a huge reserve of backstock for reorders so I can't see something like this being in supply at all on street

Paramount/DM releases (rumors)

In terms of new release titles, Tropic Thunder is expected to be released sometime in November, followed by The *****ss, Ghost Town and Eagle Eye sometime in December. Our sources are currently telling us to expect Eagle Eye on 12/26 and Ghost Town on 12/30.

The great news, however, is that a TON of new catalog Blu-rays are expected to be released on 12/16, just before Christmas. Hot Rod, Old School and Into the Wild have already been announced for that date, and Tommy Boy, Coach Carter and Heartbreak Kid are expected that day as well. Better still, Event Horizon, The Truman Show, Ghost, Last Holiday and Days of Thunder are all expected to arrive in stores on 12/30.

More great Blu-ray titles are expected in January, including Dexter: The Complete First Season (for Showtime), the Braveheart: Special Collector's Edition, Election and Zodiac. Election has already been officially announced for release on 1/20, and we expect Braveheart that day as well.

As always, keep in mind that these titles and dates ARE unofficial and are subject to change until they're actually officially announced by the studios in press releases and retail solicitations.

Just got my cancellation/refund e-mail from Tower. I guess they never really did ship on the 18th like the e-mail shipping confirmation stated last week. Bastards.

Dear Customer,

Please be advised that Iron Man (Blu-Ray) UPC/EAN: 097361385747 has been recalled by the manufacturer because it may not play on certain Blu-ray set top players due to differences in manufacturers' specs. We have issued a full refund for this item. The new release of the Iron Man (Blu-Ray) will be available on tower.com shortly.

Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I just got the same email. Pretty weak if it said it shipped 4 business days ago, but never really left the warehouse. If that is the case, I'll not likely order from them again.

Anything that "shipped" 4 business days ago, should have already been at least halfway to me by now.

Future Shop Canada has some good prices. I bought 5 titles yesterday... most of them were tagged $26.99 but rang up as $21.99.

Oh yeah, and I've been going to a lot of chains in the last few days but I think it was Future Shop... The Omen (original) was marked $38.99. Ummm, almost $40 for an old ass movie. Fox or whoever is responsible for that price can go **** themselves.

FS price tags can be off... check their online price in store and that's the price you'll pay. If it doesn't come up with the online price, they should match it without too much fuss.

When I took advantage of their first B2G1 sale during 2006 Boxing Weeks sales, I picked up Superman Returns, Miami Vice and World Trade Center. The tags on them were as high as $45.99, but they rang up at $32.99.

I purchased The Godfather collection from tower.com...but seriously 5-7 business days to ship from Maryland to DC?...they must re-route things through China...

Watched the first Godfather tonight...and the transfer is an absolute revelation as far as I'm concerned. I can't believe I was considering keeping my crappy DVD set from 2001.

First of all, it's a clean, focused picture on a 62" screen, which is saying something in and of itself for this movie. But there are some very sharp scenes here and there, as well. The colors when they're there are magnificent. Not much of it is super "POTC" sharp, but it's all much more detailed than DVD.

On the audio side, dialogue is strong and the highlight. Gunshots are a little weak, but that would be my only complaint.

Anyone who ordered this will be very pleased.

I believe Tower ships from Miami. Via Media Mail, that seems about right.

I agree for the most part. There were a few parts of the movie that looked very soft to me. But we are talking about 2 minutes worth of footage in a 3 hour long movie. The soft scenes just jump at you a little bit because they are so rare. Other then those 2 minutes worth of footage the movie looks great. I just watched the Godfather on tv a few months back and I can tell you in comparison it's night and day.

The audio was solid but most recent action flicks have spoiled me. I expect more pop from bullets and more pounding from punches. When guns were fired the audio was hit or miss. My favorite scene in the entire movie (regardless of how terribly acted it is) was a huge disappointment audio wise for me. Sonny's fight scene didn't have that "thud" effect that I had hoped for. But once again, we're talking about 2 minutes of average in a 3 hour long movie of amazing.

Overall I think the movie is a must own. I don't know how many more times I'll watch the Godfather movies (they truly are a weekend project), so I don't know if the cost is "justified" to more casual blu-ray fans, but as they would say on MTV Cribs, "you ain't ballin unless you have this movie in your collection".

Well, I guess when something says it has shipped, I assume that means it has shipped. I don't expect them to lie, but maybe.

I haven't gotten my refund from Tower yet. Anyone else get theirs? If so, when was your order supposed to have shipped?

Nothing that I've heard about. It's such a high-profile and anticipated title, I imagine when there is official news, it'll be on every blu-ray news site right away, just keeping looking around.

It’s depressing that Iron Man’s BD launch numbers will be obliterated by the recall. “Iron Man sold 3 Blu-ray copies and 8 million DVD copies” won’t read so well to John Q. Public. What a disaster.

That's why I am holding off on buying a Blu-Ray player. I think it's a great piece of machinery, but I don't see it lasting beyond 2010. Unfortunately, Joe Smo doesn't care about BR.

The street date isn't going to be affected at all, per all the quotes given yesterday, so it shouldn't matter.

Why would Blu-Ray be dead by 2010? What is going to replace it? What does Joe Smo care about, digital downloads?

Don't get me started on the list of issues and complications regarding that. Some people still can't check their email, and post pictures to the internet, yet people think that everyone is going to be able to download high-def movies over the Internet with no issues.

No offense, just my opinion. Enjoy your Blu-Ray player.
