The street date isn't going to be affected at all, per all the quotes given yesterday, so it shouldn't matter.

Why would Blu-Ray be dead by 2010? What is going to replace it? What does Joe Smo care about, digital downloads?
Don't get me started on the list of issues and complications regarding that. Some people still can't check their email, and post pictures to the internet, yet people think that everyone is going to be able to download high-def movies over the Internet with no issues.
LOL he didn't get you started on it... you did!

That's why I am holding off on buying a Blu-Ray player. I think it's a great piece of machinery, but I don't see it lasting beyond 2010. Unfortunately, Joe Smo doesn't care about BR.
Well I'm hoping my FUD is inaccurate. If Iron Man DOES street on time (with the corrected discs), nobody will ever even know this happened.
Well, except Tower.com... Whose business is going to suffer because their Shipping System of Lies has been outed.

For those that may still want Nightmare on Elm Street, my closest FS finally got their copies in, but the price was $24.99 each plus tax. :(
Add shipping and it's about $30 to $31 to ship a copy.

Hey question-- I just picked up this set, but I haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet. My parents are stopping by tomorrow night for dinner, and I wanted to show my dad a piece of the Godfather on BD.
Is there one particular scene or chapter that really shows the quality of this new release? From any of the 3 movies...
Thanks. :)

Hey, I have a weird and annoying problem I was hoping someone could help with, maybe identify the cause. I'm starting to get this "popping" almost static sound from my speakers when playing games on my PS3. It doesn't happen during blu-ray movies at all, just the games, and even then it comes and goes. Almost like something is triggering it.
I thought it was something wrong with my copy of The Orange Box at first, but it did it tonight with Guitar Hero, too.
Any idea what the cause might be....the PS3 or perhaps my receiver? Could it be a bad HDMI cable?
I'm inclined to think it's not my receiver since it doesn't happen when watching TV through my speakers or (as of yet) with my HD DVD player, either.

Very strange. Check all connection to the PS3, any speaker wire etc. Strange it only happens during games.
I doubt its the HDMI cable but just switch it out with another.

I'm up to 2.42 on my PS3 and I don't have that issue. I'd check your HDMI cable first, since it seems isolated to the PS3. Perhaps you just don't notice it in movies (assuming they are on the PS3) as much because there is always other stuff going on more so than in a game.
The PS3 should be using the same processors for playing a game as it does a movie, so I would think the popping would be consistant.
You might want to change the input on the back of the receiver too. Like switch the PS3 input with something else at the receiver and see if it moves the pop to the other device. Might be the receiver input.

I'd try unplugging and replugging your hdmi cable on both ends. ensure a snug fit.
after that, i'd try that hdmi cable on another device and another input (and then another hdmi cable) until i isolated that it's the cord, the device, or the input.
then you'll have your answer. :)

Also, FYI...
Over the weekend, Amazon.com send an e-mail out saying that Blu-ray movies were "3 for 2." As it was a B2G1. And if you clicked the link, it listed no specific movies, but repeated that Blu-ray movies were "3 for 2."
So people took that to mean everything was fair game, and bought box sets and preorders out the WAZOO as B2G1. The system didn't calculate the free movie, but if you e-mailed customer service about it, the untrained fools GAVE you the 3rd movie free.
FOR EVERYTHING. PREORDERS. BOX SETS. YOU NAME IT.
It worked for about 36 hours until Amazon.com caught on and shut it down.
Check out the madness here: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=64258
Since Spawn has a buggy website, we couldn't communicate to each other about the "deal." :(
From what I understand even orders that went through were killed. People got $5 credits.
I put an order in for 3 preorders but didn't go through with it..instead I called customer serivce and told them it wasn't adjusting in the shopping cart as it was supposed to. They said they'd e-mail me back today and I got that "sorry for the confusion here's a link to 55% off blu-rays."
It's a decent list, but nothing I want right now. Oh well, back to full price for Iron Man.
They're still doing an any purchase B2G1 free if you keep e-mailing and get the right person who doesn't care. Plenty of people have posted their screenshots from today of the free movie.

Ah, now this is more like it. Just a day after we realized that Panasonic's DivX-lovin' DMP-BD55 would be hitting the streets at $399, in comes confirmation that its little brother -- the DMP-BD35 -- will be offered for a full Benjamin less. Yep, that means you're looking at a UniPhier-equipped Profile 2.0 Blu-ray deck that's launching at under $300. We're still not told how soon it'll be in stock, but $299.95 for a BD-Live-capable standalone player is something worth paying attention to. Now, how's about we dip down even lower for Black Friday?

Bad news Blu-ray fans -- it appears Paramount hasn't gotten past all its production problems and it just might affect the Blu-ray release of Iron Man. Easily one of the biggest movies of the year, Iron Man was expected to really move some volume on Blu when it was set to release this Tuesday on September 30th, but after some rumors that review copies weren't working in some players, Paramount issued a full recall. At this point the studio is doing everything it can to deliver enough replacement discs to retailers, but if it doesn't happen in time, then we'll all have to wait another week until October 7th to take in the latest sci-fi action flick

I'm sure if I spent the time to get that Amazon thing to work, I'd end up buying movies I don't really want just for the sake of doing so.
Decent deal for box sets, but on regular new releases at $18 each....eh, wait a month or so and you'll get them for that price anyway.

The official word on the Iron Man BD is in from Paramount. THE DISCS THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE ON STREET DATE AT YOUR LOCAL RETAILERS WILL BE FIXED AND WORKING FINE, so no worries. We're also told that because the discs will be corrected by street, there will be no need for any kind of exchange program. Just so you know.

Aside from those audio static episodes I was talking about, my receiver crapped out on me, too, last night. It stopped sending picture to the TV through HDMI. I tested different HDMI cables and also went directly from the PS3 and the cable box to the TV and the picture worked in that instance (which was actually a sigh of relief - if it were the TV HDMI input, I'd have been screwed), so I was able to narrow it down to the receiver.
So, anyway, I have to take it back to Circuit City. I have a warranty, but I'm not sure how they work there. So it might be a few days for me before any PQ/AQ reviews for Elm Street, depending on whether they want to try to keep it for repair or just give me a new one.

Man that is weak. I think the CC warranty program just gives you a new one or the equivilent in money to spend at CC. Not sure on that though. Hope you get that taken care of soon and easily. I've heard stories of people having issues with CC before.

All versions will feature audio commentary by the filmmakers (including director Dave Filoni, producer Catherine Winder, writer Henry Gilroy and editor Jason W.A. I'd have grabbed that comedy pack already if I didn't have 40YO and Knocked UP on HD DVD.....an early review is out on Sarah Marshall, saying 3/5 for PQ...I haven't seen the movie but I wonder if it's just a rental vs. the new release stand-alone disc price.

Yes I did go with a women...but suprisingly it was funny as hell. Alec Baldwin was hilarious in it as well. Just some of the lines in this movie will have you cracking up the whole time. Dane Cook's character and actions will also have you dying laughing.
Not to spoil anything but quick scene to prove my point.
Dane Cook is at a wedding and he goes to the brides mother and pretends to hit on her....He proceeds to pull his pants down and tells her "It wont suck itself." I almost had Barqs rootbeer coming out through my nose.
So yes going in it may seem like a chick flick all the way but I guarentee you guys that go with lady friends will enjoy the humor.

Also, the ratio on the back of the box is listed at 2.4:1, but should it be 2.4:1 / 1.78:1 shifting. That better be wrong and it better be shifting ratio between that and 1.85:1 during the movie. I want my bars to appear and disappear throughout the movie!

From here (http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=1488). The aspect ratios will shift on the BD. Case closed. http://forum.blu-ray.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
Quote:
While speaking with iF Magazine, 'The Dark Knight' director Christopher Nolan mentioned that the inevitable of Blu-ray will feature the IMAX shifted aspect ratio. He commented, "The Blu-ray, in particular, will be able to actually use the shifted aspect ratios as it appears on the IMAX screen because the 16:9 aspect ratio is sufficiently different from the 2:4 that you'll actually see a shift on the Blu-ray."
He continued, "The resolution on the Blu-ray is clear enough that you can actually see difference in grain structure and sharpness. So I think it will be quite spectacular."

Toshiba just won't let it die. For those of you with these still, via EngadgetHD...
Honestly, we were taken aback when Toshiba released version 3.0 firmware for its launch HD DVD players two years after release, but that has been replaced by absolute shock, at a 4.0 software update for the long-dead format. The whole family can join in on this one, either via the player or downloading and burning a copy from the website, with updates available for the whole line: HD-A1, HD-XA1, HD-D1, HD-A35, HD-A2, HD-A2W, HD-A2C, HD-D2, HD-A20, HD-XA2, HD-A3, HD-D3, HD-A30. The only official word is this patch "addresses certain playback issues" -- forum posters report 1080p/24 playback jaggies on MPEG-4 AVC-encoded titles like Transformers is no longer a problem. If everything is working fine (and, of course, you're still using your HD DVD player) it may be best to wait until more reports to avoid any potential compatibility problems.

Those pics look very professional...did you set those up by yourself? The sunset is unreal behind those clouds...almost postcard-ish. Good flash/lighting and exposure too.
Never been to Jamaica but it sounds nice. I guess I'm a little weary of the natives. Did you ever feel out of place amongst the crowd? Call me paranoid, but I figure I could get robbed or plundered if I ever left Texas for Jamaica or Mexico. :p
I didn't set them up. Sandals has their own photo staff that follows you around and takes pics of you and your significant other if you want. Then you can go preview and buy them at the photo lab on site. I paid $16 each for them to be put on a disc.
No ring on the wife's hand or is that your GF :)
Chris
Good catch...maybe his wife was taking the pictures? :D
Caught that as well... I figured it was just photos before the wedding. :)
You would think it's photos after the honeymoon. Maybe in their nights of bliss and surrender, they forgot to fully dress or accessorize the day after.
Case in point...we have no shots below their waist, meaning no pants? :p
We didn't take our rings with us. Didn't want to risk losing them. :D

New BD-Live Content Launches for 'Tranformers' Blu-ray
Tue Sep 30, 2008 at 01:00 PM ET
DreamWorks has unveiled details of its latest BD-Live feature for the 'Transformers' Blu-ray, a video called "Robot Ninjas" which is launching today.
The vignette showcases the battle seen in the film between Bumblebee and Barricade, and comes from video diary footage and animatics culled by the film's stunt crew.
The BD-Live feature is accessible beginning today via any BD-Live-capable (Profile 2.0) Blu-ray player with internet access.
The studio says a second BD-Live feature, "What Effing Happened to Mason City" will appear in the near future, though details remain TBA.
It is also expected that DreamWorks will use the 'Transformers' Blu-ray to promote the upcoming theatrical sequel, 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.' We'll keep you posted.

Yeah but guess what, that extra $21 goes on my reward zone card so when I drop $500 I'll get $5 back. Theres no better feeling then overpaying for 3 months in a row and getting your $5 gift certificate for doing so.
Now that I think about it that reward zone card is the most useless piece of junk ever. They need to take a page out of the men's warehouse book. For every $500 you spend there you get $50 back. You buy a nice suit and you've got 2 ties for free. With best buy if I buy 25 Blu-ray movies I'll have enough money to buy a 12 pack of AA Batteries.

The Best Buy program isn't really that great, but if I can get something cheaper there, or have them price match it, I'll get it from there. The rewards might not matter much or add up to alot, but it is free money, which is better than any other place gives me for buying stuff.

Was the case to your blu-ray still sealed?
Otherwise, yours is probably junk too. From what you describe, someone would have had to open every copy and replace the disc in each one, and then shrinkwrap it up.
Pretty sure Best Buy or any other place isn't doing that.
Sounds to me like they just put a new wrapper on it with the different UPC code, so they could track it in the system computer.

when I was there in the am they hadn't sold a copy of IM on BD
when I went back they were all gone
I thought maybe they pulled them for some reason but I would say they likely sold legitimately
granted their fixtures only held about 12 copies ... plus figure a few who didn't look at the packaging and meant to buy SD, plus a few sales for resale later, plus my copy ...

I have an LCD TV and I think my dam cat ran up my tv and tried jumping on the top. Well I think he put 2 marks on my TV.
I was wondering if anything ever had something like this happen?
I just got the TV 2 months ago and there is a warranty on it but I dont know if they would buy my story if I just told them I dont know what happened.
Any tips?

How can anyone, that is a supposed "movie" expert, not have a Blu-Ray player?

Declaw the cat :p
Check with the store and manufacturer... the worst they'll say is no.

Ya I would have declawed that cat along time ago but the wife says no.
I am going to check out my warranty and see what I have to do. Do they send somebody to your house or do you have to take the TV somewhere?

Depends on the manufacturer... someo will send a guy out.
Although if I had to guess, you're going to be SOL :(

Normally any damage to a product that occurs from abuse (kids, pets, drunk relatives, etc) is not covered by standard warranty. Warranty typically only covered manufacturer's defects.
If you could convince them the tv came out of the box like that, they'd be more inclined to do something about it

Ya that is what I was going to try and do. I was going to try and say it came like that.

I'd say tell them that you didn't unbox the tv until now (it was a gift, you were on vacation, etc). The only thing that could backfire there is if they check the hidden menus for hours of use. Odds are it would work on the place you bought it, but not Samsung.

Thanks for the tips.
Do you think the scratch on the screen can spread?
