Yeah the intro was amazing. Literally the minute you hit the play button the freaky **** just starts happening IMMEDIATELY. But after those first about 10-15 minutes of the movie it just switches to complete crap.

Just watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall. What a great movie!

Had a major blue haul today, thanks to trading almost all my dvds in. I got over 400 in credit at Movie Stop. Was a pleasant surprise, as I pre-paid for Dark Knight, Horton hears a who, Clone Wars (for the kid) and Kung Fu Panda, along with the Comedy 3 pack (marshal, knocked up and 40 yr old virgin), Crank, Top Gun, Sleeping Beauty, and a couple cheapo dvds for the kids room.

Still have almost 200 bucks in credit there.

I guess the thing to keep in mind is what everyone, and I mean everyone in this thread, has been telling you.

Any standalone player cheaper than the PS3 is total crap. So, yes you can get a BD player cheaper than $400, but it is going to suck and you are going to have wasted that money.

I just shopped around for a SA blu-ray player everywhere you could think. After lots of research and assessment, I bought a second PS3.

It has nothing to do with fancy. It has to do with functional and future proof. PS3 isn't the most expensive or the fanciest, it's just the best, period, for the money. If you really don't know what you're getting into with blu-ray and the different options, I suggest you read up. Check out avsforum.com, it's a wealth of information.

Keep an eye out there for deals... sometime there are some pretty good prices for Blu-ray players.

Best price I've seen for a PS3 was $299 when Blockbust video was blowing their remaining Spiderman bundle stock out.

I still regret not picking up a 2nd one at that time, although they were pretty hard to come by.

tried watching sleeping beauty on the PS3 this weekend with the kiddo and it froze up on me...did all of the updates and popped it in again...froze again. tried putting in iron man...froze in 2 minutes. i haven't tried a standard dvd yet, but i'm not sure if that will make any difference. any suggestions on what to do?

Just a guess...but you're blu-ray laser might be dying. It happened to me on my 20GB PS3 a while back. Do you have a warranty somewhere? Or if it's still within the 1-year Sony warranty I would call them immediately, talk to someone, tell them the problem, and see what they say.

Everyone in this thread already told you this player sucks. Why would you want to waste $200 on it? This makes no sense at all.

Unless you are getting a great deal, and by the time it ends you won't be, you are better off buying it in the store and paying a little more for it. Then if something goes wrong, you can take it back or use the warranty. You don't get those benefits buying it from Ebay.

It sounds like you want a Blu-ray player for $200 or under. You need to just accept the fact that if you want a quality player, it won't happen. I suggest you keep saving your money and just wait for prices to come down.

Why do you even eant a blu-ray player if you don't have an HDTV??? This is also not very smart. The benefits of Blu-ray on a normal TV will be minimal at best. You would be better off, as has been suggested, getting a good upscalling DVD player.

Note that if you just bought the PS3, you would be getting both. So you would get an upscaling DVD player, which benefits you now, and a BD player, which benefits you later.

Everyone in this thread already told you this player sucks. Why would you want to waste $200 on it? This makes no sense at all.

I never said I was buying it. I was just saying that is how much I could get it for.

Unless you are getting a great deal, and by the time it ends you won't be, you are better off buying it in the store and paying a little more for it. Then if something goes wrong, you can take it back or use the warranty. You don't get those benefits buying it from Ebay.

It sounds like you want a Blu-ray player for $200 or under. You need to just accept the fact that if you want a quality player, it won't happen. I suggest you keep saving your money and just wait for prices to come down.

Why do you even eant a blu-ray player if you don't have an HDTV??? This is also not very smart. The benefits of Blu-ray on a normal TV will be minimal at best. You would be better off, as has been suggested, getting a good upscalling DVD player.

But if I get a BD player, I will be set for the day when we get an HDTV. It will save me money in the end. If I buy another DVD player now, I will just have to turn around sometime and buy a BD player anyway.

Note that if you just bought the PS3, you would be getting both. So you would get an upscaling DVD player, which benefits you now, and a BD player, which benefits you later.

I did, and I loved them too. I loved all the Indy movies. I just liked Crystal Skull a little better than the others, but not much better.

Your logic for getting a blu-ray player still makes no sense to me. If you are just trying to get ahead of the curve for when you eventually get an HDTV, then just save your money until you get the HDTV. By then you can get any blu-ray player you want and probably a dozen movies.

If your current DVD player is broken and you are thinking of getting a blu-ray player because of that, I'd still just get a new DVD player. You can buy a good upconverting DVD player for like $70 and probably cheaper.

The nearest Wal-Mart is 2 hours away. The nearest Future Shop or Best Buy is 3 hours away.

No offense "Thor".....but usually....when people create "dioramas".....it entails more then just switching out the SPs on the TMP hockey board. Dioramas are usually crafted...depicting a specific scene. You're doing nothing more then placing SPs onto the Ice Rink (that TMP actually made as well). Not very creative IMO.

Trust me, I'm all about looking for the best deal as well. I can't just drop cash on stuff like PS3s and other home theater stuff either. We are just trying to get you pointed in the right direction, so that when you do spend your cash, you do make a good purchase.

If you want the best deal, then your best bets are the Sony credit card deal or waiting until Black Friday, assuming you have that in Canada. I'm not joking that time....I really don't know if you do or not.

No retail store is going to sell the PS3 for less than cost because the margin on them is like 3%. They don't make anything on them and just use them to get you into the store.

If you keep thinking this way, then you will never have anything. All of us have something outdated in our systems. No one can keep up with every newest thing out there.

Holland gives you good advice. Build slowly and the other direction. With a home theater, you want to go with a TV first, then sound, then the other stuff. Going backwards (the way you are going) doesn't make much sense and in reality will make your stuff more outdated in the long run. You should knock out the most expensive part first.

I just noticed you are 17. Are you thinking of going to mountie school or whatever you Canadians call college up there? If so, then getting a home theater setup should really be super low on your list of priorities. You won't be able to take it with you and you would be MUCH better off having the money for school.

Also, Amazon was a VERY trixy hobbit today.

They shipped their Ultimate Matrix Collection orders last night (since the movie came out today)... But then TODAY lowered the price from $89.95 to $74.95 to match B&M sales. Nobody got the automatic $15 back since the pre-order price guarantee only applies until shipping.

I called Amazon (rather than e-mail) because I wasn't going to be denied my $15.

After 12 minutes and 42 seconds on the phone TRYING to explain to the man who doesn't speak English what my issue was, he gave me a credit of $15 to my credit card.

tried watching sleeping beauty on the PS3 this weekend with the kiddo and it froze up on me...did all of the updates and popped it in again...froze again. tried putting in iron man...froze in 2 minutes. i haven't tried a standard dvd yet, but i'm not sure if that will make any difference. any suggestions on what to do?

Seriously??? How does something like that happen?? Are they just sitting in stacks next to each other in a factory somewhere? Did some idiot just grab a stack from the wrong pile? This makes no sense to me.

It isn't like the Hulk is still getting made or pressed I wouldn't think. Shouldn't there be a machine that just puts all of that together?

I can't beleive this would happen. Also, I really wasn't online much when DVDs were first coming out, but did they have all these little snafus? I mean it isn't like you can slip a VCR tape in a DVD case, but did they have mixups too? This is just stupid that Blu-ray keeps having these issues.

I just got an email from Smiley's (the electronics store in town). They have one PS3 80G left for $439.99, which is really cheap compared to the eBay prices. I might go in tomorrow morning to take a look at it, and maybe by tomorrow evening I'll be posting a PS3 haul. :)
