It's not the first time a review of theirs has been off just to stir up contraversy and add some traffic to the site. You can tell it's fake as hell because they absolutely loved Batman Begins but somehow hate it's impressively superior sequel?

Peter Bracke is usually pretty spot on, and I generally agree with him but I feel like this was just a play to differentiate their site from the rest of the reviewers out there. I still go by a combo of HDD/Rottentomatoes anyways. The other reviewers at HDD can be highly biased, so you need rottentomatoes.

And for me, this bias goes back to something I was saying last year, that these reviewers let their personal opinions of the movie affect their bottom line recommendation for the blu-ray disc way too much.

I mean, I'm not going to DVDTalk for a review on the movie...just tell me how strong the disc is. If they stuck to this, they'd be able to review twice as many blu-ray discs, and maybe include a few more screenshots (like DVDBeaver does) instead of giving us a 12 paragraph rundown of "their take" on the film.

Not sure if it is common knowledge yet, but the 160GB PS3 hit my store yesterday. $519.99 up here in Canada with the Dualshock 3 and Uncharted.

If you use the Sony rewards link, you can pick it up for $350.

looks like BB is the only one with Shawshank in their December week 1 ad and at $29.99 ... $10 more than Amazon

I think I'll be passing on this now as reviews haven't noted a great upgrade in PQ from the dvd and despite any AQ upgrade this is a very dialog heavy movie.

I bought from them once, and experienced significant delays receiving my movie. They were good for communication, though, and the price was comparable to xploitedcinema (which doesn't do imports anymore either, I believe).

What PrimeBane said. I just beleive they will double dip. They have already started doing that on other big movies that have a sequal coming out. I think this one just follows the trend.

Seems ripe for the double-dip with included "movie cash" for TF2 in the box and adding on some special features that haven't been seen before. I don't think they will add anything significant, but since I already have it on DVD, I'll just wait.

If nothing else, it will go one sale again around the time TF2 comes out.

Then how come all the TV's by Sony that are 42" or bigger are 1080p. All the 720p versions are 32" or smaller. I thought 1080p would be the way to go because of Blu-Ray?

What some of the guys are getting at is that the clarity of 1080p is more noticeable on tvs 50" and over, and less (if even) distinguishable on tvs under that size. Thus, if you are getting a 42" then 720p (1080i) is all you really need, even for Blu-ray.

I don't know if the deal is still going on through the weekend, but a couple other ones were Sunshine, There Will Be Blood and Miami Vice.

Thanks...I really wish Wal-folk knew what the hell they were doing.

So it's okay to get a 720p at 42" even with the intent to watch Blu-Ray movies?

Yes...in fact, I have a 50" plasma and a 62" dlp and they're both 720p. Every time I buy or think about getting a new TV, I happily decide to take the extra few hundred bucks that I would've spent on the 1080p and upgrade the size I'm looking at by 6-8".

Price drop.

All six Bonds come out to $6.66 each now.

Thank you for posting this...I just canceled an order I placed earlier today on 3 movies and reordered them and saved $12. They hadn't shipped yet, but Amazon no longer does that 30-day price match, so I figured that was the only way to do it.

It used to be this site - http://www.blurayvt.com/mainPortal.php?page=home - but it looks like they don't give away a Blu-ray now. Looks like a contest with monthly winners now.

I got the same, exact same, one for a wedding gift in October. LOVE it. Great picture and sound. I don't have a blu ray player hooked up to it...yet. But the Wii looks great on it. And regular DVD's look fabulous.

One little problem with the contrast changing depending on the image on screen...but that's it. Otherwise it's a great tv.

Figures that Amazon sale (limited to only 33 titles) would actually be the best deal for me and the titles I don't already have during this holiday shopping season so far. I just upped my order total to 6 movies....and after the $50 discount and super saver shipping, the total was $57.

I can't believe they actually lowered the prices for this deal, too. Usually it's the other way around. These are the types of sales where you can "take a chance" on a movie...for $9 each, you can't go wrong.

Well since I'm into HD I may as well go right to 7.1. I'm going to pull the trigger on that receiver so that will be my starting point. I'll be moving into a new place next year (my roommate is getting married and he owns the house) so right now my space is TBD, but I can guarantee it'll be bigger than what I have currently.

I'd suggest starting with a 5.1 set... these energy ones are quite nice and I can personally vouch for them.

Then I'd add two energy towers to the front (it's best to match brands). The RC-30s seem pretty nice. (comes in different finishes)

He's cast her in more than 1 of his films. Hell, she had a 30 second spot in Tropic Thunder. I rolled my eyes when I saw her.

Oh yeah...almost forgot about that appearance. She's not a bad looker as I liked her in Wedding Singer, but she's definitely not with Stiller for his looks.

Not out.

I busted open the 350 I got for my dad to update the firmware... it's a nice little player I have to say. I may get one for myself if the price goes below $200 in Canada. :)

Bummer. :(

Good call on the firware update. I should do that for my parents too.

I wish I could have gotten them a PS3 for the player, but they are too old and impossible to convince that it was the best BD player. At least the Sony one has gotten the best reviews of the standalones.

Does the Sony take a USB stick to play BD-Live content? If so, do you know what size it needs?

I was thinking about getting the 880 for my parents. Now that they are going to have a new TV, BD player and cable box, I think they might like one. However, if I hold off, I might be able to get that for a gift for something else.

Plus, I'm not sure if they would really use it and I'd have to program it, which I don't want to deal with.

You'd actually still be just fine with a 50" 720p.

Last summer I was looking for a 42" 1080p, did some more research on everything, and ended up with a 50" Panasonic plasma. I'd put it up against any 1080p TV (maybe not Pioneer) and I'm sure you'd be very hard pressed to tell any difference. And in many cases you'd think the Panasonic looked superior.

But if you're set on 1080p for whatever reasons, then I'd absolutely say yes, save a few hundred bucks more and get the bigger size.

I just looked back at Ice Rat's post...I think that's the exact same TV I bought last summer.

Also know, just for current and future reference, that the resolution isn't the only thing that goes into the equation for what the picture looks like on your TV. The technology (Plasma, LCD, DLP), the contract ratio to some degree, the brand, all of that factors into it in my opinion. I think there are a couple other things, too, but I forget off the top of my head.

Good luck in your search, getting a new TV is always a lot of fun no matter what you end up with.

All the advice about the TV size and resolution you have gotten is great. There is really nothing wrong with a 50" 720P TV. Plus, the Panasonic is a great Plasma TV.

That is insanely heavy for a tv.

I still have my Sony 27" WEGA CRT in my studio. That thing weighs a ton and since it's not hooked up to cable, I'm probably gonna just sell it rather than invest in a conversion box for the antenna digital reception.

Not sure how much I can get for it though considering it's over 5 years old now.

I have yet to claim any of mine, but I've often thought about putting them on my computer and uploading them to my smart phone for viewing.
I give them to my Mom's bf...he puts all the movies on his iPod

You should put them on your computer as fast as you can. They expire. Quickly, too. So transfer them now.

If you get a phone or mp3 player with a nice big screen later on, you might be glad you have them.

Legally at least. ;)

I too have that same Sony WEGA TV in 27" form. It is the TV in the living room.

What, really??? They expire?? That is absurd. DRM is so ridiculous. If I own something, I should be able to watch it whenever or wherever I want.

Also, they all seem to require some upgraded version of iTunes which I refuse to upgrade to as I can strip the DRM off songs with the version I have.

The code expires, ya.

Why does it expire? I bought the movie, so why should I only have so long to download the copy that I so rightly paid for? If you want ot make it a one use code (which is also dumb) then fine, but why should it expire?

HATE DRM!!!

Ugh....I'd probably rather just "locate" a non-DRM version rather than go through all the hassle with a digital download. And the music and movie industry wonders why they lose money.

The Disney people did it perfect by putting the DVD in the box with Sleeping Beauty.

Hank, when you say "studio" what do you mean?

I live in a two-bedroom apartment, so the guestroom I converted into my art studio for working on my comic pages. It's basically got my drafting table, a couple of bookshelves for my reference books, light table, and several posters and artwork on the wall. The Sony Wega sits against a wall adjacent to the door, collecting dust more or less. I think I still have an old gamecube and xbox hooked up to it.

His S&M dungeon.

Hahaha...no that's in the bedroom. :p

its going for $100 on craigslist here in nyc... i guess thats better than nothing

Thx Magneto for the info. I think I'm gonna try and sell it for $80-100. Since I live around an apartment complex, it should hopefully strike up a few inquiries.

Damn, that was fast... I guess CP can come through from time to time. :)

I'm still waiting for another package I sent to arrive... I'm a little worried at this point as it's been nearly 2 weeks and hasn't had as far to travel. :(

Put them on the left side of the case and never touch them again.
