Speaking of "budget" titles...I highly recommend The Proposition. Finally watched it this week on blu, my second viewing of the movie. It kicks ass. It's a brutal, unique western with very strong acting by Guy Pierce (what's new).

I was just thinking back to most of my favorite comedies, and they're all from the 80's and 90's...and I was thinking of all the Rogan/Apatow movies that came out recently, and non of them made me laugh as hard as I did with Stepbrothers. And no other Will Ferrell movie made me laugh as hard as Stepbrothers, either.

If I had to pick a better comedy actually, I'd go with Tropic Thunder.

Aside from Ferrell movies, Apatow-associated productions and crap "romantic" comedies, what other great comedies have even come out in the last 5-8 years?

Joe Dirt?

Great as in the story and acting are very good in it. Not necessarily in terms on being a "pick-me-up" movie, but if you like well-written and acted drama, this is great.

I admit I'm an Edward Norton mark though, so maybe I'm biased a bit. I think he is a great actor, even if he is a bit of a *****.

No one should ever own that. I agree. I know you own Commando, D-Wars, 'Gangs of New York, and Predator. I had you as owning Ammityville Horror, Lost Boys, Nightmare Before Christmas and Speed Racer as well.

I was taking the whole list into account, not just the top 10

From that list I have Dragon Wars, Gangs of New York, Predator, 88 Minutes, Short Circuit, and the Scorpion King 2.

I've skipped over alot of movies the last 3 months just because too much stuff was coming out. I think the Lost Boys came out during a week where I bought 5 movies so the Lost Boys got lost in the shuffle. Same for Speed Racer.

Ah ha, you're wrong Mr. Ewto, I only own 4. Theres one thing you should take into account. I will never in my life own a Larry the Cableguy movie. NEVER. EVER....EEEEVER.

Also how is Predator considered a bad movie?

Cars?

Thats technically not a larry the cableguy movie. Any movie that has more than 5 fart jokes and tells me how I know I'm a redneck at least once every 5 minutes is a larry the cableguy movie. He just voices a character in Cars. Much like he voices his own self, since thats not even his real voice.

Can you guys give me a comparison between Vizio's and Philips brand TV's? I am buying a tv tonight, and wanted to know your opinions. They are both 1080p, 42". and $798. So how do they compare as far as Picture quality, life span, and overall performance?
I did see that the Contrast on the Philps is 29,000:1, almost 6 times that of the Vizio.

I agree 100%. BestBuy just had a 42" Panny for $899 or something like that. I would wait and get a better brand TV for a little more.

But If you have your mind made up go with the Vizio.

I own Predator and Commando and that's it actually from the main list. Then I own Shrot Circuit and Nightmare before Christmas.

I 100% wholeheartedly disagree with the Short Circuit one. It looks very good. Dumb and Dumber should've taken that spot.

You have been asking about TVs for the last month in here and keep bouncing around to the same advice. Save up some more money and get a better TV. Vizio sucks and is a throwaway cheap TV. Phillips is a better known brand, but low end in the TV market.

Save $100 more dollars and get a Panny plasma or a better LCD.

I don't know about that specific model, but in general Panny > all other plasma except Pioneer.

And I didn't mean to sound mad or anything. I totally understand the process of getting all the information possible before buying something as big as a TV. It is obviously a major investment for you and, by the sounds of it, the first time you have ever made such a large purchase.

I might also suggest you walk into a local Best Buy as they have TVs on sale (clearance) at the front of mine that might fit in your pirce range.

Regardless, you can't really go wrong with a Panny plasma. Try to look it up on reviews.cnet.com or click here

If it's anything like my sub, one is the sub input (red) and the other is the crossover input (white). I believe you just need to plug into the sub input. At least that's what I've been doing.

Also around back are two mono line-level inputs -- one labeled Input and the other labeled X-Over. The Input connection is used when your receiver or preamplifier does not have its own crossover to restrict high-frequency signals from reaching the subwoofer (somewhat of a rarity today in most A/V receivers) or when you want to fine-tune your subwoofer volume level. The X-Over input can be used with most A/V receivers whose LFE outputs are attenuated above 100Hz (or less), which is the case with most A/V receivers these days. I recommend trying the X-Over input first, which worked well in my system.

It looks like you plug into one or the other if that's what's on the back of your sub. :)

I can set it up like...PRIME'S HD THOUGHTS/TIPS, etc..., and everyone can have their little section of the first post.

I'm crazy... my wife just surprised me with an early xmas gift... a Samsung Blueray player the BD-P2550

Friggin amazing... but I', not opening it and I think I'm going to return it.

She bought me the turtle beach wireless surround sound headphones for my 360 as an xmas gift already and the blueray player is just to expensive.

Plus I'm not ready to start buying blueray dvds ugh...

so is this dvd player better than the player that is included in the ps3?

Not deals so much as like the couple places that have great deals on tv's/cables/movies consistantly? Or the sites that search and find deals?

Just an idea....hope it helped

Your best bet for cables 9 times out of 10 is monoprice.com

As for cables and movies, there are deals popping up all over the place that are good so it's hard to give just one spot.

Any new significant deals on movies will always be posted in here on the last page or two. :)

Purchasing an all-in-one package will limit you as far as upgrading, start with a good receiver, I own a Sony ES line receiver, but a lot of people here love that Onkyo that was mentioned above, personally I am a Sony W hore, most if not all my equipment is from Sony, speakers is really what you can afford and what type of room you have or room you don't have, when I got my speakers I was limited in my room size so I went with Canton CD series speakers for my front and rear, and I got a Canton sub which I am looking to replace along with the rest of my speakers. Personally I am looking to Martin Logan speakers, my ears bleed when I hear those, but sigh, I need to buy my girlfriend an engagement ring, plus I just bought a SLR. For the time being the work for me, but it really is personal preference with speaker purchasing, I just wouldn't buy an all-in-one package

Kung Fu Panda - It's okay. Great visuals but the story was too generic. Video and audio presentation was above average.

Fall - Couldn't stand the movie and I loved The Cell. Great video quality.

Band of Brothers Disk 1 - Sound was impressive. Colors look too muted compared to the DVD. The show was so clear on BD that some CG shots became noticeable. Don't know if I'll upgrade for $40 at Best Buy this week.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Very funny and touching. Video and audio is okay. Mila Kunis was very charming and cute.

I couldn't get into it either. I think I remember liking the first one but I guess I just didn't "get" 2. You probably have a point as far as the transfer is concerned. But it was noticeable enough for both of us to comment on the PQ. The studio should have done a better job with it...even if it only cost me $15.

Unfortunately the audio is really flat. And the clarity of the picture only makes those scenes where the film is "sped up" to simulate "speed" look that much more ridiculous. Still though.....I love the movie.

dumb question for you HD gurus. If I want to take advantage of HDMI 1.3 I'm assuming my tv needs to support HDMI 1.3 as well as my blu-ray player

HDMI 1.3a really doesn't seem to effect PQ much... it does have advanced color features, but since no one currently uses them it's not a big deal.

HDMI 1.3a is much more important for sound at this point.
